  • KRDS social media agency launches the world cup of hashtags with “second world cup”!

KRDS social media agency launches the world cup of hashtags with “second world cup”!

MUMBAI: While the World Cup starts in Brazil’s football stadiums, another competition has already kickstarted on social networks: the one that opposes players and participating countries through hashtags, followers and Twitter mentions.

On this occasion, Social Media Agency KRDS launches, “Second World Cup”, an immersive website available both on desktop and mobile, allowing users to discover what players and teams are the most talked about on Twitter during the event.

Users are invited to take part in the “Second World Cup” by participating to virtual confrontations which oppose teams on the social network. Which means, participants have to tweet to help their team win and improve its position in the final ranking of the Hashtags’ World Cup.

“Second World Cup” does not just reveal the number of tweets which are related to the event on Twitter, but also gives users the opportunity to follow the evolution of tweets mentioning a team or a player in real time. The more the team / player are mentioned on the social network, the bigger the bubble which represents them becomes, as the number of sent tweets directly affects the size of the picture, and thus the final ranking.

A “battle” section contains a calendar of each of the games and will allow users to take part to tweet matches happening between two teams in real time. The winner of the virtual game (the one who will have received the most mentions on Twitter) will be unveiled after each “battle”.

Finally, the website also gives access to the teams’ and the players’ cloakrooms. This includes a social hub showcasing mentions on all social networks, along with the Twitter stats of the day, a ranking of the top 40 Twitter users who are the most assiduous for each team, a detailed information sheet on each player/participating country as well as the most important historical World Cup facts.

Times Now – Creating History yet again on Social Media

MUMBAI: TIMES NOW, India’s No. 1 English News channel has successfully executed the biggest election campaign on social media in the last 90 days. TIMES NOW, in the last one and a half months recorded tremendous interaction and engagement levels on all election related activities across platforms like social media, mobile and on air integration.

    SOCIAL MEDIA

    • Across six days we had more than 10 hashtags trending worldwide with #Results2014 and #May16WithArnab both being top trends worldwide for both 15th and 16th May. #Results2014 and #May16 With Arnab both were top trends worldwide for both 15th and 16th May.

•100+ hashtags trended during the 90 days of coverage on TIMES NOW

    • 400 million+ potential impressions were generated by TIMES NOW hashtags on Twitter during the Elections Counting Week

    • We also used the innovative Tweet to SMS service to provide election result updates to more than 38,000 people directly to their mobile via SMS

    • TIMES NOW itself garnered more than 3.8 lakh followers across the campaign period

TIMES NOW INDIA’S ELECTION HQ APP

    • TIMES NOW app got more than 1,00,000 downloads in two weeks with more than 1.5 million + page views on the app, 3.5 lakh + live feed views & 4.5 lakh + video views

    • The app was the featured app on Android, Windows and Apple for the election week

    YOUTUBE

    • 4 lac+ people logged in on the TIMES NOW’s LIVE YouTube feed to watch the counting day coverage live

    • 1.5+ million views on TIMES NOW’s YouTube channel in a period of 15 days on video content created around the elections

We wanted to make sure that TIMES NOW provided content across platforms and facilitated information dissemination to the audience in the most proactive manner. We used a mixture of social networks, mobile applications, SMS service as well as live feeds in order to make sure that our audience had the most updated election news across 90 days.

Social Network: We primarily used twitter to reach out to our audiences since, as an English News channel, we have a huge audience overlap with this particular social media platform. The campaign was driven largely by the television content but was amplified by social media. We took the twitter sentiments and created on air components with them, seamlessly creating cross platform content integration. We created a huge buzz on twitter across the counting week from May 8th onwards with hashtags like #MegaExitPolls,  #PollofPolls, #ModiSpeaksToArnab, #May16WithArnab, #Results2014, #TimesNowatTimesSquare and #Modiat7RCR trending in India & Worldwide. This was achieved through a mix of pre event seeding and conversation drivers. For example, for the Modi interview, we had less than twelve hours to create a buzz since the story broke in the morning and the airing was in the evening. So we made sure that enough conversation happened around the hashtag by creating vines from the episode to build anticipation, using images and quotes; and pushing out tune in reminders. Also, on the 15th, to create brand recall and drive viewership, we had a contest (for the first time ever from the Times Now handle) which asked people to tell us their views on the issues which would be addressed on counting day.  The contest got massive response with the hashtag #May16WithArnab trending worldwide for both the days. Across the campaign we concentrated on coining hashtags which were simple to use, easy to insert in conversations and most importantly were relevant to the news of the day.

We also made twitter updates accessible to people via SMS through the TimesNowLive handle for all major events like exit polls, counting days and government formation.

Regular updates of news were also done on facebook and google+, again with the same hashtag to maintain continuity. This was also displayed on screen, to drive maximum recall.

Mobile: TIMES NOW launched the exclusive election app, bringing live feed and video content of all the election programming while giving viewers a chance to interact with each other and the channel. This created an immersive second screen experience for our viewers and led to a large amount of engagement.

Video Content:  The election coverage was also available on Youtube as a LIVE feed and was a part of the election hub created by Google especially for the event. We also strategically used vine videos throughout the campaign to promote stand alone events like interviews, breaking news etc.

With such stupendous growth & performance, TIMES NOW is only set to create bigger records & grow exponentially on Social Media with more & more audience engaging with us.

  • Kapil Sharma creates a laugh riot on FB

Kapil Sharma creates a laugh riot on FB

MUMBAI: The hugely popular laugh riot has now gone beyond making a mark on television. We’re talking of Colors’ top-rated non-fiction show Comedy Nights with Kapil (CNWK) which on the eve of 22 May registered a record 10 million fans on facebook.

Launched soon after CNWK’s on-air launch in July 2013, the show’s facebook page has seen phenomenal growth with over 80,000 fans getting added every 24 hours.

In the words of Kapil Sharma, creator-producer-host of CNWK, his hobby of making people laugh has grown into flourishing content on TV and social media. “Though we keep hearing people saying how much they love our show but to see it in a number as big as 10 million sends out a loud message to us. In successful collaboration with the Colors team and with continued support from our fans, my little hobby of making people laugh has grown into a flourishing content on television, one that I will strive harder to better even further,” says an elated Sharma.

The show has a strong male skew with 70 per cent of fans being men and 41 per cent of overall fans being men aged 18 to 24 years. Be it posters of Sharma or other characters like Palak and Didi or typical Sharma jokes or wisecracks by his wacky on-screen family, these get shared about 10,000 times and generate more than 1.5 lakh likes.

Ask him about the show’s digital strategy and Colors digital head Vivek Srivastava says: “The strategy has largely evolved around engagement. We used jokes and contests for creating engagement with digital audiences. It’s a tough battle because the show comes twice a week and the page has to be decked up every day. So therefore, even if you have to update the page once a day, it must be relevant and engaging every day and make sense day after day.”

Social media is handled by an in-house team of four members, he informs.

Replying to a question about what has clicked with Facebook followers, Srivastava answers: “From a content stand point, we have really tried to explore relationships and get humor out of different situations. So whether it was a mother and son relationship, husband and wife relationship or servant and master relationship, we have taken humour to a completely new level.”

To mark the occasion and ensure even greater participation, the channel had started a contest which starts with the question, ‘Want to be a part of the ’10 Million Likes’ celebration on Comedy Nights with Kapil?, egging on fans to mail their best photographs to colorstv.fans@gmail.com to see themselves on the cover picture of the CNWK facebook page.

Colors had also created a countdown app which got activated the moment the facebook page hit 9900,000 fans. Upon crossing the 10 million mark, video messages by Kapil, Palak, Daadi, Sumona and Navjyot Singh Sidhu were posted to acknowledge the undying love of CNWK fans across the globe which made this achievement possible.

“Our heartfelt thanks to everyone who ‘likes’ our page and shares our content with their friends. It’s a signal of approval from the viewers on social media all across the globe that we are creating a product which people love to watch not only on TV but also consume it on other digital platforms like Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and mobile apps,” says Sharma.

While on other digital platforms, on YouTube, CNWK is the most popular show on Colors since it was first launched with a single episode of the show posted on YouTube receiving about 1.8 million views on an average. On Twitter, most key characters like Sharma, Kiku Sharda (Palak) and Sidhu have witnessed a phenomenal increase in number of followers since the launch of the show. CNWK itself has 1 lakh followers on Twitter. The CNWK mobile application witnesses an average of 1.5 lakh downloads every month, enabling consumption of not only full episodes but also episodic mini-clips.

While 10 million fans implies that CNWK is popular not only across the Indian subcontinent but also around the world, what is next on the cards?

“The special thing would be to keep the momentum on and obviously goals will differ. Today, we are at 10 million; hopefully, we will aim for 20 million. So it is not really about the number of fans but engagement. As long as engagement levels are high, we think we would have done the job. As long as we keep entertaining the viewers, these milestones will automatically come through,” concludes Srivastava.

  • BBC is best for global breaking news

BBC is best for global breaking news

MUMBAI: Two studies have revealed that BBC World News is the leader in global breaking news, with stories from a wider spread of locations and journalists in more countries than other international news broadcasters. The BBC’s leadership in coverage of fast moving international stories is also reflected in independent data which shows that the BBC is by far the most retweeted news source on Twitter.

These findings form the basis of two new marketing campaigns which are running on the channel and bbc.com to highlight the broadcaster’s breaking news leadership and social media credentials.

The original study, conducted in partnership with LiveStation, examined the four main international news providers and showed that BBC World News is ahead on the breadth of its editorial agenda and the extent of its editorial resource.

Peter Horrocks, Chairman, BBC Global News Ltd, said:

“Audiences rightly value the BBC for its accuracy and impartiality and we are consistently rated the world’s most trusted news broadcaster. This data also shows we are just as fast as our competitors and are number one for breaking news from around the world.

“The BBC’s breaking news is authentic news – rather than the non-existent or minor developments in stories which other broadcasters label ‘breaking news’.

“Our competitors boast about how far they go to cover stories. We don’t need to ‘go there’ because the BBC is there already – in a far wider range of locations than other news broadcasters.”

The study reveals that the BBC covers stories from the widest variety of locations, with journalists in almost 100 countries. This is more than any other broadcaster and offers the unique ability to provide local insight into events of global importance.  Over the study period, the BBC had local reporters covering breaking news stories from considerably more countries than any of its competitors.

BBC World News also has the richest variety of content, reporting on a more even spread of topics across the world than the other news channels.
Contrary to widespread perceptions, the BBC is as least as fast as other international broadcasters, and often faster.   When compared to its competitors, the BBC was first with the story on marginally more occasions than anyone else.

The LiveStation findings have since been validated by a similar study conducted this month in partnership with Kantar Media. Breaking news matters on radio, TV, online and especially on social media.  Recent research from NewsWhip shows that the BBC is the world’s most retweeted news brand, with its stories shared a record 2.7 million times in March – almost 50% more than any other publisher. Bbc.com also achieved record figures with 96 million unique users and an all-time high of 1.3 billion page views* over the same month.
