    Mumbai: CNN-News18, India’s one of the leading English news channels unveils the highly anticipated ‘CNN-News18 Indian of the Year’ awards, an upcoming spectacle, on 10 January at New Delhi. Recognised as India’s premier television awards now into its 13 edition, the ceremony vows to honour excellence, spotlighting Indians who have conquered the world across various domains. This year, the awards evening will witness the presence of the ‘King of Bollywood’, actor Shah Rukh Khan, renowned filmmaker Mani Ratman, among others.

  • Vivo partners Vh1 for eight international award shows

    MUMBAI: Vh1 India once again raises the bar by partnering with leading global smartphone brand Vivo Electronic Corp, for eight of their international awards. 

    The association will have Vivo on board as presenting sponsor for MTV Movie & TV Awards, Billboard Music Awards, Video Music Awards, Europe Music Awards, American Music Awards and Brit Awards and powered-by sponsor for Golden Globe Awards and Grammy Awards. This association starts with the first of the eight International Awards – MTV Movie and TV Awards.

    Touted to be one of Hollywood’s Wildest Nights, the 2017 MTV Movie and TV Awards recently broke the internet with its bold step towards breaking gender barriers by having gender neutral nominations categories – a move that was appreciated across the world. The awards, which promise to be the biggest party of the year will be aired exclusively on Vh1, one hour post the live show from the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles for the viewing pleasure of the Indian audience on 8 May, 2017 at 6:30am with a prime time repeat on the same day at 9 PM only on Vh1.

    Vh1 has launched a robust, 360-degree promotional plan for the upcoming awards that connects with audiences across all platforms. The channel has tied up with over 450 on-ground partners, engaging with consumers across multiple outlets of bars, spas, gyms, cafes and more, thereby innovatively reaching out to audiences across 35 cities via customised fitness workshops, blogger makeovers, award-ready grooming tutorials and the largest on-ground linked digital contest across all the above partnerships.

    BMI Film & TV Awards honour composer Harry Gregson-Williams and Earle Hagen

    MUMBAI: Composers Harry Gregson-Williams and Earle Hagen were recipients of the annual BMI Film & Television Awards. BMI, the U.S. performing rights organization, honoured the composers and songwriters of the music from the past year’s top-grossing films, top-rated prime-time network television series and highest-ranking cable network programs at its annual Film & Television Awards.

    The ceremony was hosted by BMI president & CEO Del Bryant and Film/TV Relations VP Doreen Ringer Ross.

    Film composer Gregson-Williams recieved the Richard Kirk Award for Outstanding Career Achievement. This is annually awarded to a composer who has made significant contributions to the field of film and television music.

    This British-born Golden Globe nominee has scored such diverse films as The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch & the Wardrobe, Man on Fire, Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason, Shrek, Shrek 2, Spy Game, Chicken Run, Kingdom of Heaven, Antz and Domino. Williams was also named the Composer of the Year at the 2005 Hollywood Film Festival.

    Former recipient of the Richard Kirk Award, BMI composer Hagen received the Classic Contribution Award in recognition of more than 50 years as a BMI affiliate and for 10 years of dedication as a mentor and teacher of the BMI workshop he founded in 1986. Hagen’s contribution includes some of the most memorable themes in TV music history like The Andy Griffith Show, The Dick Van Dyke Show, I Spy, Make Room for Daddy, Gomer Pyle, USMC, That Girl and The Mod Squad.

    BMI’s Oscar, Golden Globe and Emmy winning composers were also celebrated, including Latin rock pioneer Gustavo Santaolalla, whose Brokeback Mountain music earned him an Academy Award for Best Original Score and a Golden Globe for Best Original Song for A Love That Will Never Grow Old from the movie’s soundtrack.

    Danny Elfman’s Emmy winning theme of Desperate Housewives gave the composer two of his three wins; his score to Charlie and the Chocolate Factory also earned him a BMI Film/TV Award.

    Founded in 1939, BMI is an American performing rights organization that represents more than 300,000 songwriters, composers and publishers in all genres of music. With a repertoire of more than 6.5 million musical works from around the world, the non-profit-making corporation collects license fees from businesses that use music, which it then distributes as royalties to the musical creators and copyright owners it represents.

    Amrita TV shines at Kerala state TV awards

    MUMBAI: Amrita Television recorded a rich haul in the Kerala state television awards for the year 2005. The one-year old channel won as many as 14 awards, including important titles such as best telefilm, script, actor, actress, cinematography, music director, art director and best story.

    In the Telefilms category, Annum Mazhayayirunnu directed by B Unnikrishnan emerged as the winner. Doordarshan’s Agnisakshi, directed by Sreejith Paleri, was chosen as the second best teleserial. M Mohanan won the award for best script writer for Samasya telecast by Amrita. The jury found no winner in the teleserial category.

    Siddique won the best actor award for his performance in Annum Mazhayayirunnu and Samasya. P.Sreekumar got the supporting actor award for his performance in ‘Annum Mazhayayirunnu’. K P Sivakumar received the best director award for his telefilm Kuttilekku aired by Jeevan TV. Amma, a telefilm directed by John Paul and aired by Amrita TV, won the award for the best story.

    Ambili Devi and Sona Nair won the best actress and supporting actress award respectively for their performances in Amma and Samasya. Sanusha was adjudged the best child artiste for her performance in Violin aired by Asianet.

    In the news section, Praleyasmitham Kailasam directed by Vinod Mankara and aired by Asianet won the best documentary award. R S Ajan won the best director award for his documentary Everyday Heroes aired by ACV.

    S Saratchandran of Kairali TV won the best newsreader award while C M Mochita won the best compere award. V R Sudheesh of Asianet won the best interviewer award while P Shajahan of Asianet won the best investigative journalist award.

    The award for the best critical writing on TV programmes went to S D Prins for his column Telikalam in the Madhyamam Weekly.

    Jury chairman Vijayakrishnan announced the awards. The judging panel also included George Onakkur, Harikumar and Chalachitra Academy chairman T K Rajeev Kumar.
