Covid relief: Now you can find hospital beds on Truecaller

NEW DELHI: As India battles the deadly second wave of the Covid2019 pandemic, many brands have stepped up by contributing to the relief efforts. The latest company that joins this list of good samaritans is Truecaller, which has launched a Covid healthcare directory in the nation.

This new feature helps users to locate hospitals and can be accessed from either the menu or the dialer within the beta version of the Truecaller Android app.

“In light of the recent rise in cases, it’s important that Truecaller helps in any way we can. We decided to make it as easy as possible for everyone in India to find medical care near them. It can be hard to find the right healthcare numbers when you need it most, so we’ve added it to the app,” said the caller ID app in a recent statement.

The healthcare directory contains telephone numbers and addresses of Covid designated hospitals from multiple states across the nation. Truecaller has made this directory by sourcing from official government databases.

Truecaller users can use the search button to locate Covid hospitals near their location. However, the directory will not provide any details regarding the availability of hospital beds.

The company also revealed that it will update the numbers and contact details of hospitals every day and will include hospital phone numbers from as many areas in India as available.

  • Truecaller crosses 500 million downloads and 150 million daily active users globally

Truecaller crosses 500 million downloads and 150 million daily active users globally

MUMBAI: Truecaller announced today that the company has crossed 500 million downloads and surpassed 150 million daily active users (DAUs) globally. This comes close on the heels of the company sharing the news of attaining over 1 million paying subscribers to their Premium services.

This is a significant achievement for Truecaller, which is emerging as a one-stop communication platform with a wide array of services like Instant Messaging, VoIP, and Payments. The 150 million DAU’s achievement makes Truecaller the most used communication app in India after apps like WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger.

The key factors that have led to this rapid growth are Truecaller’s many communication features like their smart dialer, VoIP capability, Instant Messaging, and their spam-free SMS inbox.

Sharing his thoughts on this unique achievement, Alan Mamedi, CEO & Co-founder, Truecaller, said “By differentiating ourselves from the standard stock dialer and messaging apps, and solving some fundamental communication problems for our users, we have been able to capitalize and excel the competition. This is a very significant achievement. 150 million daily active users and 500 million downloads is extraordinary. These milestones underline the faith and trust our users have in our brand.”

Along with this milestone Truecaller will soon be rolling out two important features that will revolutionize the standard dialer experience offered by smartphone manufacturers today:

Call Alerts: In an effort to help users depend less on low-speed and faulty networks, which are prevalent in emerging markets, Truecaller sends a Call Alert to users about who’s calling before the phone rings. This is a big upgrade for millions of Android users.

Full Screen Caller ID: Truecaller will be introducing the most powerful Caller ID and dialer experience on the market. There simply is no comparison when you look at standard dialers from phone makers. More and more people are finding it challenging to separate work and personal life, especially when they use their phones for both. With the new full screen Caller ID, you’ll see instantly whether an incoming call is personal, business, or spam – and on top of this you can do all other key actions like accepting, rejecting or sending a quick message from the same screen. This gives businesses a better opportunity to take control of their business profile, and in turn users will get more information on who’s trying to get in touch with them.

  • Messaging Gets Smarter with Classification, Smart Notification and Backup Features for Truecaller Users

Messaging Gets Smarter with Classification, Smart Notification and Backup Features for Truecaller Users

MUMBAI: Truecaller introduces three new smart updates called ‘SMS Classification’, ’Smart Notification’ and ‘Messages Backup’ to its existing Messaging Inbox feature, to enhance the SMS messaging experience for all Android users.  Truecaller in its continued effort to make life easier by providing safe and efficient communication tools, has launched the new features to empower users to effectively manage their cluttered Messaging Inbox while ensuring they don’t lose out on valuable information every time they uninstall the app or change their smartphones.

SMS’s are so frequent that sometimes even important messages are treated no differently than spam-led, coupon codes or promotional updates. SMS Classification, equipped with advanced machine learning algorithms will help sort messages in 3 groups (contacts, others, spam) based on the content of the message. For instance, personal messages will be shown under the contacts tab, blocked/top spammer messages will directly land under the SPAM tab while the rest of the messages will be classified under the others category based on the content. The classification happens offline and locally on the user’s phone without any data being stored on Truecaller’s servers.

The Smart Notification feature scans through incoming SMS locally on the phone without touching Truecaller’s servers, and creates a smart card highlighting relevant data like OTP number, transaction amount or payment reminders for the users to act on. Additionally, the user will also be able to perform certain actions like recharge or pay bill straight from the smart card that appears on the notification tab by just clicking on the pay option provided.

SMS Notification converted to Smart cardThe first update will initially show smart messages from HDFC, AXIS, ICICI, CITIBANK, SBI, Bank of Baroda, PNB, BOI, Union Bank and mobile operator including Airtel, Idea, Jio and Vodafone. In line with Truecaller’s aim to provide secured tools, this feature is also designed to work completely offline and will take place only on an individual’s handset ensuring that none of the user’s transactional info or OTPs touch Truecaller servers. Users can choose to disable this update when preferred.
