    Star Movies showcases Disney’s Tomorrowland

MUMBAI: Star Movies has always brought its audiences the biggest and best international blockbusters. Films have always had the power to teleport audiences in a world other than their own and this June, audiences will get to experience a world imagined by none other than Walt Disney himself.

On June 26th, the channel will take you on an inter-dimensional travel through Brad Bird’s Tomorrowland. The film is a firm exemplification of the faith that humanity placed in the future. It brings to life Walt Disney’s idea of what he envisaged the future of this world to be.

Tomorrowland is a leap of faith in film-making that brilliantly captures the utopic nature of a parallel world. It begins with the tale of a delinquent teenager with a thirst for scientific knowledge and a former boy-genius inventor. Both set out on a journey to uncover the secrets of a parallel universe that exists through inter-dimensional travel.

Tomorrowland is a futuristic world that is exclusive to its genius citizens. You can either enter by invitation or through the elusive pins. Everyone there is equal, prosperous and happy. It is full of robots, jetpacks, space rockets, holograms and even giant, humanoid 3D printers that construct large pieces of infrastructure in seconds. Brad Bird’s characteristic playful style is apparent and the wild pace of the action is reminiscent of his animated blockbuster, The Incredibles.

Tomorrowland is a Disney film with an incredible world filled with wonders and phenomena yet to be imagined. The concept is so fascinating that Tomorrowland is an actual attraction in Disneyland across several locations in the world.

Disney’s Tomorrowland stars George Clooney and Hugh Laurie and is sure to captivate its audiences with its television premiere, on 26th June at 1 pm and 9 pm only on Star Movies.

Dolby Laboratories completes 50 years; charts growth plan

MUMBAI: Dolby Laboratories, which sparked a revolution in sight and sound based on American engineer Ray Dolby’s vision for spectacular entertainment, has completed 50 years.

To support growth, Dolby will be moving to new headquarters at 1275 Market Street in San Francisco where it will continue to shape the sight and sound of entertainment and communications with new technologies like Dolby Cinema, Dolby Vision, Dolby Voice and Dolby Atmos.

The company’s story began in 1965 with the invention of Dolby noise reduction, a breakthrough system, which eliminated the hiss that plagued tape recordings. The company went on to transform cinema, introducing more powerful and immersive sound to forever change the way movies were made and enjoyed. Dolby sound helped bring Star Wars to life in 1977 and created an entire industry devoted to the audio experience.

The company’s latest initiative Dolby Cinema transforms the way people watch movies comprising a premium cinema offering that combines the best in sight and sound with a bold new theatre design, creating an amazing experience for moviegoers.

AMC Theatres and Dolby Laboratories, which recently launched Dolby Cinema at AMC Prime, will be launched in up to 100 sites by 2024, including major cities like San Francisco, Las Vegas, Philadelphia, Miami, Boston, Denver and Seattle.

Moreover, revolutionizing displays from movie theaters to TVs, Dolby Vision will see Disney’s Tomorrowland and Disney Pixar’s Inside Out as the first Dolby Vision titles. The first TVs with Dolby Vision are arriving this year from Vizio.

On the other hand, Dolby Voice revolutionizes the conference call and the way people communicate at work by making calls exceptionally clear, natural and productive, like in-person meetings.

Dolby Atmos, which is becoming the sound format of choice for leading filmmakers and device makers is a technology that places and moves specific sounds anywhere in the room, including overhead, to bring entertainment alive all around the audience.

Since its introduction in the cinema in 2012, Dolby Atmos has been embraced by all the major Hollywood studios, 14 Academy Award winning directors, and 27 Academy Award winning sound mixers. Over 1,000 screens worldwide have installed or committed to be equipped with Dolby Atmos and 275+ Dolby Atmos titles have been announced globally.

Additionally, entertainment enthusiasts can now also enjoy Dolby Atmos in their home theaters, on their mobile devices and in virtual reality experiences from Jaunt.

“Dolby is thrilled to collaborate with Disney and Pixar to push the cinematic boundaries through the powerful combination of Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos. Dolby Cinema delivers an unforgettable cinema experience that transports moviegoers into the heart of the action,” said Dolby Laboratories president and CEO Kevin Yeaman.

Dolby Cinema begins with the filmmaker’s vision—using the full storytelling capabilities that Dolby offers in image and sound production to transform the way movies are made. Combined with state-of-the-art image, sound, and acoustic capabilities, the movie comes alive to deliver cinema in its purest form.

“The Dolby Cinema experience is a very exciting prospect for both filmmakers and film fans. Dolby has been so vital to the advancement of cinema sound, it makes complete sense for them to turn their attention to enhancing and improving the quality of motion picture images as well. Our team was delighted to collaborate with Dolby, and we are proud thatTomorrowland is the first film to be presented in their stellar new Dolby Vision process. The brightness and clarity of the images, yet with richness and detail in the blacks—WOW. The picture quality, especially in 4K laser projection, is nothing short of stunning,” said Tomorrowland director Brad Bird.

Dolby Cinema features the Dolby Vision projection system, which uses state-of-the-art optics and image processing, to deliver high dynamic range with enhanced color technology and a contrast ratio that far exceeds that of any other image technology on the market today. The result is a richer, more detailed viewing experience that delivers strikingly vivid and realistic images that make viewers feel like they are in the movie’s world. Dolby Cinema also includes the award-winning Dolby sound technology, Dolby Atmos, which moves audio around the theatre, even overhead, with amazing richness and depth. Dolby Atmos debuted in 2012 on Disney Pixar’s Brave.

“Our studio and our filmmakers put so much into creating high-quality, immersive experiences for audiences, and that includes using the latest, cutting-edge technology to enhance the stories we tell. Disney has been a longtime collaborator of Dolby, and we’re excited for the continued storytelling possibilities that technologies like Dolby Cinema deliver,” said The Walt Disney Studios EVP – theatrical distribution Dave Hollis.

DQE, Wild Canary partner to produce Miles from Tomorrowland

MUMBAI: The animation house is making waves across the world and a latest deal strengthens it more. DQ Entertainment (DQE) has bagged a deal to produce Disney Junior Miles from Tomorrowland along with USA’s Wild Canary Animation. It will be a 24 episode CGI HD animated space adventure series that will be released in 2015.

Disney Jr and Wild Canary have already started working on the series earlier this year. DQE will be handling the post-production of the series. Emmy nominated Sascha Paldino (Henry Hugglemonster, Ni Hao, Kai-lan) is the executive producer of the series, while Emmy nominated Paul Demeyer (Duckman, Rugrats in Paris) will be directing it.

Set in the Disney parks area, the show’s curriculum is based around educating children about science, technology and space travel. Each episode will have two stories of 11 minutes each that will take kids on a ride to a new world to drive their interest in the universe, mathematics, language skills and the importance of family bonding.

DQE group founder and CEO Tapaas Chakravarti said, “We are thrilled to embark on production of this exciting new Disney series with Wild Canary, USA. We expect that the collaborative skills of both Wild Canary’s and DQ Entertainment’s high quality CGI animation resources will result in a world-class series that will attract young audiences across the Globe.”

Wild Canary Animation president and co-founder Richard Marlis said “When my partner Carmen Italia and I opened Wild Canary over 6 years ago, we envisioned becoming a global company. We could not have a better partner than DQ Entertainment to move forward with this new venture. We look forward to a long standing relationship with them, both for this series and future projects.”
