    Tips Industries ropes in Hari Nair as its new CEO

    Mumbai: Tips Industries Limited (“TIPS”), a public-listed music-company, has appointed Hari Nair as the company’s new chief executive officer. Nair brings in 25 years of overall experience, of which the last two decades were spent in the music ecosystem. With this appointment, TIPS aims to strengthen its core leadership team, as well as focus on driving revenues further, be it through increasing its music distribution capabilities or expanding into new domains of music monetization. Nair will be responsible for leading the company into its next phase of growth, amidst the fast-changing digital trends and a vibrant content ecosystem in India’s entertainment industry.

    On this appointment, Tips managing director –Industries Limited Kumar Taurani commented, “We are extremely delighted to appoint Hari as our chief executive officer. Hari has 360-degree experience of music ecosystem – starting from music distribution companies like Soundbuzz & Mauj Mobile, to heading digital business for a global music company Sony Music India, and then leading performance rights organization PPL India’s digital transformation.     Joining ByteDance in 2019, Nair led the South Asia region for music partnerships and licensing for all ByteDance which gave him a multi-regional exposure in ByteDance ecosystem, launching their music streaming service Resso first in India, and the overall experience with apps like TikTok, Helo, Capcut, etc. Further, Nair was entrusted with a larger multi-region role (Middle East, Africa, Turkey and South Asia) for Artist Services division at TikTok, where he was primarily responsible for launching SoundOn (music distribution service), driving the business P & L for the region and also ensuring support for local artist / music labels. His music journey started with Asia’s first online music store “Soundbuzz”, which was acquired by Motorola. Prior to his long innings in the music arena, Nair also worked in the IT services industry.

    Tips Industries mulling demerger of film division

    NEW DELHI: The board of directors of Tips Industries has in-principal agreed to consider the demerger of the film division of the company into a separate entity.

    A demerger committee formed by the board will appoint the valuer, merchant banker for fairness opinion and other intermediaries for this purpose. The board on receipt of the valuation report will study, discuss and initiate the next steps.

    Following this announcement, the Kumar Taurani-led company’s stocks declined 1.2 per cent on the NSE.

    Over the years, Tips’ film division has churned out many popular Bollywood flicks like all three instalments of the Race franchise, Coolie No.1 , Entertainment, Ambarasiya, and Kunwara, to name a few.

    Tips Industries is extremely popular for its large library of music and has a strong forte in music promotion. It recently inked a global deal with Facebook, under which the social media giant has licensed its music for videos and other social experiences across Facebook and Instagram. With the move, Facebook and Instagram users will be able to add Tips' music catalogue to their posts and stories.

    FY-2015: Tips reports PAT of Rs 2.7 crore

    BENGALURU: Tips Industries Limited’s reported PAT of Rs 2.7 crore in FY-2015 as compared to a loss of Rs 16.24 crore in the previous financial year. The company’s Q4-2015 performance was marred by the operating loss by its film distribution and production segment that reported an operating loss of Rs 12.53 crore, hence wiping out completely and more the operating profit of Rs 7.63 crore reported by its other segment – Audio Products.

     

    The company reported a loss of Rs 7.67 crore in Q4-2015 as compared to a loss of Rs 0.70 crore in the corresponding year ago quarter and a loss of Rs 3.08 crore in Q3-2015.

    Let us look at the other numbers reported by Tips:

     

    Tips reported 1.3 per cent decline in total income from operations (TIO) in FY-2015 to Rs 102.35 crore from Rs 103.67 crore in FY-2014. Q3-2015 TIO increased 12.5 per cent to Rs 10.21 crore from Rs 9.08 crore in Q4-2014 and increased 70.8 per cent from Rs 5.98 crore in the immediate trailing quarter.

     

    Total Expenditure (TE) in FY-2015 declined 19.7 per cent to Rs 88.95 crore as compared to the Rs 110.80 crore in FY-2014. In Q4-2015, TE more than doubled (increased to 2.33 times) to Rs 17.24 crore as compared to the Rs 7.38 crore in Q4-2014 and was 2.38 times more than the Rs 7.23 crore in Q3-2015. Higher TE in Q4-2015 was due to higher cost of production/distribution of films, which is the major expense head for the company.

     

    Tips incurred more than fivefold (5.68 times) increase in cost of production/distribution of films at Rs 12.01 crore in Q4-2014 as compared to the Rs 2.11 crore in Q4-2014 and more than quadruple (4.03 times) the Rs 2.98 crore reported in Q3-2015.

     

    Segment numbers:

     

    Audio Products

     

    Audio Product sales/income in FY-2015 improved five per cent to Rs 32.22 crore from Rs 30.52 crore in FY-2015. In Q4-2015, sales/income from this segment at Rs 10.16 crore was 9.6 per cent higher than the Rs 9.27 crore in Q4-2014 and 69.9 per cent more than the Rs 5.98 crore in Q3-2015.

     

    Audio Product segment reported a 2.7 per cent decline in operating profit to Rs 22.01 crore in FY-2015 from Rs 22.72 crore in FY-2014. As mentioned above, Audio Products segment reported an operating profit of Rs 7.63 crore in Q4-2015, which was 5.7 per cent more than the Rs 7.22 crore in Q4-2014 and 66.9 per cent more than the Rs 4.57 crore in Q3-2015.

     

    Film Distribution/Production

     

    This segment reported 4.1 per cent decline in income to Rs 70.13 crore in FY-2015 from Rs 72.14 crore in FY-2014. Q4-2015 income was Rs 0.053 crore as compared to a negative Rs 0.19 crore in Q4-2014 and Nil in Q3-2015.

     

    As mentioned above, this segment reported operating profit of Rs 0.54 crore in FY-2015 as compared to a loss of Rs 17.53 crore in FY-2015. The segment reported higher loss in Q4-2014 at Rs 12.63 crore as compared to an operating loss of Rs 3.16 crore in the corresponding year ago quarter and an operating loss of Rs 3.45 crore in the immediate preceding quarter.

    Film segment helps Tips report PAT in Q3

    BENGALURU: Tips Industries Limited’s film distribution and production segment has reported operating profit of Rs 7.14 crore in Q3-2014, after losses in the first two quarters, helping the company report a net profit of Rs 6.38 crore in the third quarter.

     

    The film segment had last reported operating profit of Rs 13.95 crore in Q4-2013. In Q2-2014, the film segment reported operating loss of Rs 19.6 crore, which completely wiped the operating profit generated by Tips Audio segment and resulted in a net loss of Rs 22.32 crore for the company.

     

    In Q3-2013, the film segment had reported operating loss of Rs 2.08 crore, while the company had reported a PAT of Rs 0.63 crore. 

     

    The company’s audio products segment also reported operating profit of Rs 5.47 crore in the current quarter, which was 17.6 per cent lower than the Rs 6.63 crore in Q3-2013 and 55.6 per cent more than the Rs 3.51 crore in the immediate trailing quarter.

     

    Let us look at the other figures reported by Tips for Q3-2014 

     

    Total operating income in Q3-2014 at Rs 43.59 crore was 5.2 times the Rs 8.68 crore operating income in Q3-2013 and 1.4 per cent more than the Rs 42.99 crore in Q2-2014. 

     

    Total expense for Q3-2014 at Rs 34.52 crore was 5.22 times the Rs 6.62 crore in Q3-2013 and 45 per cent lower than the Rs 62.67 crore in Q2-2014. 

     

    The company’s major cost head is cost of production/distribution of films. The company spent Rs 28.38 crore towards this head in Q3-2014, which was 23.44 times the Rs 1.21 crore in the corresponding quarter of the previous year and (47) per cent lower than the Rs 53.44 crore in Q2-2014.

     

    Finance cost of Rs 3.04 crore for Q3-2013 was 2.59 times the Rs 1.18 crore in Q3-2013 and 2.1 per cent more than the Rs 2.98 crore in Q2-2013. 

     

    Tips audio segment operating income for Q3-2014 at Rs 7.08 crore was (15.6) per cent less than the Rs 8.39 crore in Q3-2013 9.2 per cent more than the Rs 6.48 crore in Q2-2014. 

     

    The company’s film segment reported income of Rs 36.5075 crore, almost the same as the Rs 36.5085 crore in the immediate trailing quarter. This segment had reported no income in Q3-2013.

    Tips’ Race 2 being readied for release on 25 January

    MUMBAI: Tips Industries‘ Race 2 was flooded with association and in-film offers from over 15 brands thanks to the ensemble star cast that includes names like John Abraham, Saif Ali Khan, Deepika Padukone, Anil Kapoor and Jacqueline Fernandes.

     

    While global brands like Audi,Van Huesen and Tanishq have gotten attached to the film as brand associations, the film‘s marketing and promotions is also reaching a flashpoint with the star cast going all out to promote the film as it is being readied for release.

     

    Producer Ramesh Taurani said, “We are excited with the feedback coming our way for the film….The star cast is equally excited and is going all out to promote Race 2.”

     

    Apart from traveling to Delhi, Chandigarh, Ahmedabad, Pune and Bengaluru, the team will even travel to Dubai to meet the local press and then to London for a press conference organized at The Hippodrome Casino – Leicester keeping with the mafia theme of the film.

     

    While the starcast is already shooting for several reality shows like Bigg Boss, Comedy Circus, Nach Baliye and Sa Re Ga Ma finale ,the film‘s leading ladies Deepika Padukone and Jacqueline Fernandes have also started scorching the award season performing to the film‘s hit songs at the Zee Awards and Umang Police show.

     

    If that is not all, a special game will soon be launched on the film in association with an internet partner.

     

    Directed by Abbas-Mustan, Race 2 will release on 25 January.
