Lionsgate Play to premiere Jon Hamm’s Maggie Moore(s) on 20 October

Mumbai: A cop, a murderer, and two Maggies! Lionsgate Play brings you a murderous mystery comedy in the form of Maggie Moore(s) that takes you through a rollercoaster of emotions. Filled with hilarity, the crime film stars the iconic Jon Hamm and Tina Fey in titular roles as they showcase the story of a double homicide. But these aren’t any ordinary homicides, for the victims bear the same name – Maggie! Is it just an expected coincidence or is there a bigger web of lies yet to be uncovered? Find out with Jon Hamm who plays detective in Maggie Moore(s), as the title is all set to stream exclusively on Lionsgate Play in India on 20 October.

Talking about the story he wanted to tell through the script, director John Slattery said, “What struck me about Paul Bernbaum’s script was the vulnerability of everyone in the story. They’re almost all lonely, searching for some kind of emotional connection, happiness, or satisfaction, in the middle of an insane story about a double murder, which I found to be a deft balancing act. Both of these elements coexisted seamlessly. I wanted to tell this story which was so specific in character, tone, feeling, and intention, partly to see if I could execute it as specifically as it was written— try to maintain that specificity through the entire filmmaking process, given all the challenges and obstacles along the way. Keeping that feeling which moved me to do it in the first place— through casting and hiring designers, collaborators— explaining, protecting, allowing it to change—I try to come as close as I can to what I experienced when I first read it… so that hopefully the audience will do the same.”

Directed by John Slattery and starring Jon Hamm, Maggie Moore(s) releases exclusively on Lionsgate Play this 20 October.

  • Jane Fonda grounds Tina Fey, Jason Bateman in the first This is Where I Leave You trailer

Jane Fonda grounds Tina Fey, Jason Bateman in the first This is Where I Leave You trailer

MUMBAI: Warner Bros. recently released the first trailer of its upcoming ensemble family drama, This is Where I Leave You starring Academy Award winner Jane Fonda (Coming Home) and Golden Globe and Emmy Award winner Tina Fey (30 Rock).

This Is Where I Leave You is directed by Shawn Levy (Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb) and is based on the book of the same name by Jonathan Tropper, who also wrote the film’s screenplay.

The film revolves around the death of Judd Foxman’s father which marks the first time that the entire Foxman family-including Judd’s mother, brothers, and sister-have been together in years. Conspicuously absent is Judd’s wife, Jen, whose fourteen-month affair with Judd’s radio-shock-jock boss has recently become painfully public.

Simultaneously mourning the death of his father and the demise of his marriage, Judd joins the rest of the Foxmans as they reluctantly submit to their patriarch’s dying request: to spend the seven days following the funeral together; in the same house; like a family.

As the week quickly spins out of control, longstanding grudges resurface, secrets are revealed, and old passions reawakened.  For Judd, it’s a weeklong attempt to make sense of the mess his life has become while trying in vain not to get sucked into the regressive battles of his madly dysfunctional family. All of which would be hard enough without the bomb Jen dropped the day Judd’s father died: She’s pregnant.

This Is Where I Leave You is considered to be Jonathan Tropper’s most accomplished work to date, a riotously funny and an emotionally raw novel about love, marriage, divorce, family, and the ties that bind them, whether they like it or not.

The film also stars Golden Globe award winner Jason Bateman (Arrested Development) as Judd Foxman, Emmy Award nominees Adam Driver (Girls) and Timothy Olyphant (Justified), Golden Globe Award nominees Corey Stoll (House of Cards), Connie Britton (Nashville) and Rose Bryne (Damages). Ben Schwartz (House of Lies) and Dax Shephard (Parenthood) round up the ensemble cast.

This is Where I Leave You releases in India on 26 September, 2014.

You can watch the trailer below:

Amy Poehler to join Tina Fey for new comedy The Nest

MUMBAI: According to The Hollywood Reporter (THR), Amy Poehler is in final negotiations to team up once again with Tina Fey, again for a comedy called The Nest. Director Jason Moore (Pitch Perfect) will helm the film.

The plot revolves around two adult sisters (Fey and Poehler) who decide to throw one last massive party in their parents’ house before it’s sold, and in the process they start to mature. Fey will produce the film alongside Jay Roach, which is based on an original idea by Paula Pell, who wrote the screenplay.

Emmy award, Golden Globe Award and Screen Actors’ Guild Award winner Tina Fey is best known for her work on the Lindsay Lohan starrer Mean Girls and the Emmy award winning television comedy, 30 Rock.

Likewise, Golden Globe Award and Critics’ Choice Award winner Amy Poehler is best known for writing, producing and starring in her workplace comedy, Parks & Recreation.

Fey and Poehler are long-time friends and colleagues. They worked together on Saturday Night Live, where they were co-anchors of Weekend Update. They also hosted the 71st annual Golden Globe Awards.

The Nest will be the pair’s second movie together after the 2008 comedy Baby Mama.

Golden Globe Awards gets best viewership in 10 years

MUMBAI: Sunday’s telecast of the 71st annual Golden Globe Awards seems to have exceeded all expectations. If numbers are to be believed the gala drew its best audience in the past decade with 20.9 million people tuning in to watch the Hollywood awards show, Comcast Corp-owned network NBC stated on Monday.

The three-hour awards show, which honors the year’s achievements in film and television, rose six percent in total viewers compared to last year and was up two percent in the 18-49 age group most coveted by advertisers, according to early figures from Nielsen Media Research.

The show hosted for a second consecutive year by comedians Tina Fey and Amy Poehler was received well once again as the Golden Globe Awards beat other televised ceremonies such as the Emmys and People’s Choice Awards for viewers. The duo have already signed on to host next year’s Golden Globes.

Big film winners at the Golden Globes, which are handed out by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, were historical slavery drama 12 Years a Slave and 1970s corruption romp American Hustle.

  • Golden Globe Awards high on entertainment

Golden Globe Awards high on entertainment

MUMBAI: The irreverence and the humour that actors Tina Fey and Amy Poehler brought on stage while hosting last year’s Golden Globe Awards, almost everybody fell for them. While they took funny pot shots at the people from the industry, they also made sure that the audience doesn’t feel left out. And when they were such a hit last time, it only made sense to bring them back to host this year’s edition of the Awards that was telecast today morning.

“Welcome to the 71st annual Tina Fey and Amy Poehler’s Lee Daniels’ ‘The Butler’ Golden Globe Awards,” proclaims Amy Poehler (Parks & Recreation) along with her co-host Tina Fey (30 Rock) while opening the award ceremony. The two actresses were on a roll at the stage. As the hosts of the award show, they even got away by calling Matt Damon a “garbage person”. The hosts also had quite a few insightful theories, one being “the story of how George Clooney would rather float away into space and die than spend one more minute with a woman his own age”.

One of the most rib-tickling jibe was when Tom Hanks was deliberately pronounced Tam Honks, highlighting all the difficult nominees’ names. On the film adaptation of the critically acclaimed play, August: Osage County, Fey said, this proves that there are still great parts in Hollywood for Meryl Streeps over 60.

Another victim of their mockery was the former Seinfeld actress, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, just because she was sitting “with the movie crowd”. “Hi Julia, you know us from TV.” Cut to Julia smoking an e-cigarette in sunglasses and shoving away Reese Witherspoon, who’s trying to take a photo with her, Amy says, “She has really changed!” to which Tina quickly reverts, “She’s gross.”

Later in the broadcast, Fey and Poehler called Louis-Dreyfus out for “slithering back over to the TV section,” as the camera panned to the Veep star shoveling a hot dog into her mouth. Since Matthew McConaughey had to lose 45 pounds to star in Dallas Buyers Club, Fey announced to the audience that, “he lost 45 pounds, or what actresses call, being in a movie.”

The award ceremony proceeded with the announcement of Jacqueline Bisset as the winner for the supporting actress in a series, miniseries or TV movie award for her role as Lady Lavinia Cremone in Stephen Poliakoff’s Dancing on the Edge. In the same category of a series, miniseries or television movie, Elizabeth Moss took home the Globe for Best Actress for Jane Campion’s Top of the Lake, while Michael Douglas took away the Best Actor award for portraying piano prodigy Liberace in the HBO Original film, Behind the Candelabra. Behind the Candelabra also won the Best Miniseries or Best Television Film award.

Saturday Night Live’s former cast mate, Andy Samberg won the Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy series for the freshman comedy, Brooklyn Nine-Nine. Amy Poehler, much to the host’s surprise, won the Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy series for her role in Parks & Recreation for the first time after having been nominated thrice for the same role, leaving her completely stunned while receiving the Globe, which resulted in her repeating the fact that she can’t believe she won, she’s never won anything.

Also, taking home the Best Actor in Drama Series award for the first time, have having been nominated multiple times was Bryan Cranston for his portrayal of Walter White in Breaking Bad. The cult blockbuster also scored the Best Drama Series title.

American Hustle tops the film awards with three wins, including the Best Motion Picture – musical or comedy. Amy Adams and Jennifer Lawrence won the Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy and Best Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture – Drama, Musical of Comedy respectively.

Dallas Buyers’ Club quickly followed suit with two wins, one for Matthew McConaughey as the Best Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama, while his co-star Jared Leto won the Best Supporting Actor in a Motion Picture award.
