    Times Now VP and business head Partho Das Gupta quits

    MUMBAI: Times Global Broadcasting vice-president and business head Partho Das Gupta is said to have put in his papers, according to reliable sources. Though Das Gupta’s next destination is yet to be revealed, Indiantelevision.com learns that, Das Gupta will continue to work in the media and entertainment space.

    When contacted, the Times Global Broadcasting spokesperson refused to comment on Das Gupta’s departure. 

    Das Gupta played a key role in the birth of the Times Now and also witnessed the transition of the then proposed business channel to the general English news channel. He was also instrumental in executing the collaboration deal between The Times of India Group and Reuters, the international multimedia news agency. 

    At Times Global Broadcasting, he was responsible for managing the marketing, sales and distribution aspects of the pay channel. He was responsible for setting up the distribution team. 

    A qualified mechanical engineer and an alumnus of the Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta, Das Gupta had been associated with the Times Group for last seven and a half years. He had been actively involved with brands including The Economic Times, Times Multimedia and the ET Intelligence Group, the research wing of The Economic Times. He has also worked with companies like Crisil, Union Carbide and Tetra Pak, to name a few.

    MUMBAI: English news channel Times Now has roped in Australian fast bowler Brett Lee to present match analysis throughout the day, during the ongoing Malaysian Tri series and also the ICC Champions Trophy 2006 which kicks off next month. He will also be seen in a show League of Champions at 11.30 pm on the channel’s sports show The Game.

    Times Now says that it will tap into Lee’s cricketing acumen to provide urbane viewers with an in depth match analysis. Times Now editor-in-chief Arnab Goswami said, “Brett Lee is not only the world’s fastest bowler, but also one of the most dynamic personalities in world cricket. Getting him on the channel for these big tournaments is a coup and Times Now viewers will enjoy his candid analysis on television.”

    Visitors will find easy navigation of the Bangalore map on the site.they can also send a viral mail to their friends inviting him/her to read the message posted by them and post their opinions on the website. Visitors to the website can read any posted message and give it a thumbs up or a thumbs down. There are also links to blogs and vox pops pertaining to the city, informs the official release.

    Times Now to feature the vision of ‘Bangalore Tomorrow’

    MUMBAI: Starting 21 August, Times Now has launched a series Bangalore Tomorrow showcasing icons like Nandan Nilekani, Dr Devi Shetty, Vani Ganapathy, Arundhati Nag, U R Anantha Murthy and Kiran Mazumdar Shaw providing an account on their vision for the series.

    Bangalore Tomorrow, Action Today, For Tomorrow is the new focus on urban trends on the channel. According to an official release, the series has started with ‘I report from Bangalore’, a series of vignettes, where the regular news faces have taken a backseat and the prominent, concerned Bangaloreans are playing the roles of reporters for the city.

    As part of its regular news programs, this initiative will present vision, insights and information on the cities infrastructure, environment, crime and emerging industries thereby shaping a vision for Bangalore’s Tomorrow.

    Times Now and Zoom hop on to Dish TV

    MUMBAI: The direct-to-home (DTH) platform Dish TV will now be offering two more channels, both from the Bennett Coleman stable — the lifestyle television channel Zoom and the English news and current affairs channel Times Now.

    The DTH opportunity will help spur higher penetration and create even more attractive business prospects for the two channels in the television market, an official release states.

    Essel Group additional vice-chairman Jawahar Goel says, “The availability of the hugely popular news channel from the Times Group, namely, Times Now and the lifestyle channel Zoom on Dish TV beefs up our already robust news content and lifestyle offering. We expect significant consumer response and growth in the subscriber base for Dish TV and for the DTH market in India due to this tie-up.”

    According to Times Now CEO Sunil Lulla, “The partnership with Dish TV will further augment the growing popularity of Times Now and will enhance the news viewing experience of the users.”

    Talking specifically about the synergies between viewers of Dish TV and Zoom, its CEO Suresh Bala adds, “Dish TV provides us the ideal platform for reaching a larger base of upscale consumers with interest in the lifestyle genre.     Times Now tweaks its look, launches four news based shows

    MUMBAI:Times Now is giving a double boost to news on television by launching four new daily news based shows. The new shows; News Now Morning, Business Buzz, Live Report and The Game conform to the new look the 24-hour English general news channel has donned.

    With the introduction of four new shows, the channel has evolved a new look and feel by providing more visual space. The channel, which presently runs three tickers, will reduce it to two with the revamp. The channel will showcase its anchors in a white-line bordered frame. According to Times Now CEO Sunil Lulla, “The four new shows add to the quality of information our viewers need.”

    Starting 17 July, the channel has kicked off the day with a new morning breakfast show — News Now Morning. Lulla says that for a Times Now viewer, the morning news bulletin, which will be aired at 6 am, is the best way of getting ready to face the new day.

    The channel maintains its agenda is to keep redefining the concept of news for their urbanite target audience. Business Buzz, which will air from 9:30 am to 12 noon and again from 3 pm to 4 pm, is aimed at giving viewers a complete picture of the day’s business news and markets. The channel will also leverage content from sister print publication and leading financial paper The Economic Times as well the global news service Reuters.

    At 12 noon there is Live Report, where the channel will go live for half an hour to the story of the moment. The show’s tagline is pure news at noon.

    At 7:30 pm is The Game, which as the name implies is primarily for sports fans. The Game will have cricket journalists Faisal Sharif and Dinesh Chopra pitching to provide inside stories and scoops on the country’s most popular sport. 

    Talking about the programming of the new shows, Times Now editor-in-chief Arnab Goswami says, “The new look and the new shows will make us pacier and even more newsy. We’ve already been acknowledged as number one in coverage of big stories. Now, we’ll also have the widest range of shows aimed at just one purpose, putting out much more news on our channel and broadcasting the news with energy and conviction, since the viewers are tired of bland or preachy news channels.”

    Concludes Lulla, “In the coming weeks, the channel is likely to launch a brand campaign and we will continue to sharpen the channel as we go long.”

    Vikram Thukral appointed as VP distribution for Times Now and Zoom

    MUMBAI: Bennett Coleman & Co Ltd. (BCCL) has fused the distribution team of the two channels Zoom and Times Now to drive in penetration and bring in revenues. The distribution will be overseen by the newly appointed VP- distribution Vikram Thukral.

    Thukral fills in the space vacated by Hitesh Sabharwal who was handling the distribution aspect of Zoom.

    Vikram Thukral will be reporting to the Times Now CEO Sunil Lulla and Zoom CEO Suresh Bala respectively. At Star, Thukral has led each of the regions of east, north and west expanding Star’s household reach and earning significant revenues from distribution, informs an official release.

    And the distribution teams of both the pay channels; the glamour and lifestyle channel Zoom and the English news channel Times Now will be reporting into Thukral.

    In a joint statement issued, Bala and Lulla stated, “We welcome Vikram’s leadership and believe both channels will be served better with combined efforts, in growing each channel’s household reach.”

    Over the next few weeks, both channel teams will be integrated for a common customer facing team. Time Now is owned by Times Global Broadcasting (A Times Group & Reuters Company) and Zoom is fully owned by Bennett Coleman & CO Ltd.

    MUMBAI: Bollywood is increasingly turning to news channels for in-film placement. The latest in line is Times Now. The English news channel has joined hands with Madhur Bhandarkar’s much awaited film Corporate. As part of the storyline, Times Now correspondents will be spotted in the movie, reporting news stories.
