    Tiger Woods’ Hero World Challenge renews title sponsorship deal with Hero MotoCorp till 2030

    MUMBAI: Veteran champion golfer Tiger Woods’ events production company TGR Live has found a hero. The world’s largest two-wheeler maker Hero MotoCorp has agreed to extend its title sponsorship of the Hero World Challenge, which is under the TGR Live umbrella. The PGA-sanctioned tournament will now remain at Albamy, Bahamas through the 2030 playing.  Additionally, the Indian two-wheeler firm has said yes to continuing with Woods as its global corporate partner.

    The tournament rounds will be held between 5 and 8 December and it will be televised on the Golf Channel during all its rounds and by NBC during the third and final rounds.

    The Hero World Challenge is the longest-running PGA Tour event managed by TGR Live. The event was started by Woods and his father Earl in January 2000 to raise funds for the TGR Foundation. Hero MotoCorp first title sponsored the tournament  in 2014 at Isleworth Golf & Country Club. In 2015, the tournament moved to Albany, Bahamas where it will be played for the ninth time in 2024.Under Hero’s title sponsorship, the tournament has grown from 18 players to 20.

    Right from its inception, Woods vision has always been to utilise the event to raise awareness, support and resources that make a positive impact in the lives of youth around the world. Proceeds from the 2024 Hero World Challenge benefit TGR Foundation, Tavistock Foundation and Bahamas Youth Foundation.

    Scottie Scheffler won the Hero World Challenge in 2023 with his score being 20 under and his his margin of victory being three strokes. Runner-up was Sepp Straka.

    MUMBAI: For Woods, his latest Nike deal, arguably, caps a complete rebound from his marital problems that became public in 2009 and derailed his marketability.

    Since turning professional in 1996, Woods has been a Nike endorser, and his latest deal will keep him one for many more years. Tiger Woods has endorsed many brands in the past but Nike is something which has always stood by him. Reports ensure that there is a new endorsement deal between the two.

    In a statement released Wednesday confirming the new contract, Nike Golf president Cindy Davis said: “We are thrilled to continue our partnership with Tiger. He is one of Nike‘s most iconic athletes and has played an integral part in Nike Golf‘s growth since the very beginning.” Though terms of the contract were not disclosed, Woods‘ agent, Mark Steinberg, had made clear in recent weeks that negotiations were progressing to keep the world‘s No. 1 player “with Nike for the rest of his career.” Woods‘ original five-year deal reportedly was worth $40 million. Numerous media outlets cited Woods earning $100 million annually from Nike beginning in 2001.

    Over time, Woods has rebuilt his endorsement portfolio and with four victories already this season, he has fulfilled that requirement. Now, marketers such as Rolex, NetJets and EA Sports are heralding him again.

    MUMBAI: Tiger Woods will try to defend his title at the Dubai Desert Classic live and exclusive on Ten Sports. 12 time Major champion Woods is in remarkable form, having claimed his 7th consecutive US PGA tour victory on Sunday at the Buick Invitational and will attempt to hold on to a title that he won in dramatic style last year, beating Ernie Els in a play off.

    The Dubai event continues to grow in stature every year, attracting a field of the worlds top golfers with a total prize money of 2.4 million dollars. It will be played on the Majlis course of the beautiful Emirates golf club in the heart of Dubai. The European stars looking to disturb Tiger Woods’s hold on the title include Ryder Cup hero Darren Clarke, Lee Westwood and Colin Montgomerie. In all 9 of the 12 players from the European team in the Ryder Cup will be in action

    However, many eyes in the first 2 rounds will be on former world number 1 Greg Norman, who returns to Dubai to play alongside the current stars, even though he has been concentrating on his golf course development business in recent years. Norman was world number 1 for 331 consecutive weeks, a record that only Tiger Woods has broken.

    The other major contender will of course be Ernie Els, the champion in Dubai in 1994, 2002 and 2005, looking for revenge from last years play-off defeat.   • US PGA Tour: Buick Invitational Live on Ten Sports

    MUMBAI: Ten Sports will show live coverage of all four days of the Buick Invitational golf this week from Friday 26th to Sunday 29th January with golf fans hoping for a repeat of the excitement of last year.

     

    In 2006 Tiger Woods won the tournament for the 4th time, winning a dramatic play off against 2 time Masters champion Jose Maria Olazabal and Australian rookie Nathan Green. It meant three wins in 4 years for Tiger Woods at the event, which has been running since 1952 and at the Torrey Pines Golf Course in La Jolla California since 1968.

     

    The live coverage runs from 0130 – 0430 IST with the action from the last 2 days repeated in prime time at 1915 IST on Sunday 28th and Monday 29th.

    Ten Sports extends deal with US PGA Tour

    MUMBAI: Ten Sports has announced the extension of its broadcasting rights deal with the US PGA Tour, giving it coverage for the next three years.

    The deal allows Ten Sports to broadcast over 40 golf events each year.
    The Players Championship, the WGC-Mission Hills World Cup, the Arnold Palmer Invitational presented by MasterCard, the WGC-Accenture Match Play and the Buick Invitational are just some of the events that will feature in the coverage.

    Ten Sports viewers will be treated weekly golf from players such as Ernie Els, Vijay Singh, Jim Furyk and Tiger Woods.
    Ten Sports’ parent Taj Television CEO Chris McDonald said, “The US PGA Tour is the world’s premier tour and we are delighted to have renewed our existing contract. It proves once again Ten Sports ambition to continue to provide the very best in sports entertainment and set the highest standards in sports broadcasting.”

    Ten Sports had originally signed a short-term trial agreement with the Tour for 2006 for six events. Ten Sports VP programming Peter Hutton said, “The success of our coverage in 2006 means that we are now happy to sign a much bigger agreement for the next 3 years, which guarantees us live coverage of the world’s top golf on a weekly basis.”

    Ten Sports is already the rights holder to the European Tour and the US PGA Championship.
