Charged on spirits, ThunderPlus unveils ethanol power

MUMBAI: Looks like India’s electric future just got a shot of “liquid courage.” In a move that’s set to energise the country’s green mobility drive, ThunderPlus and Trinity Cleantech have launched the world’s first ethanol-powered, mobile 150 kW DC fast charger, the ME energy rapid charger 150, in Hyderabad.

Forget heavy grid setups and endless approvals, this clean, portable powerhouse can be up and running in just 72 hours, and it runs entirely on ethanol, a bio-fuel made from plants. The result? Up to 80 per cent lower CO2 emissions and half the operational costs of diesel generators.

“This innovation is all about collapsing timelines, cutting diesel dependence, and giving India a cleaner, instantly deployable charging solution,” said ThunderPlus director and CEO Rajeev YSR. “We proudly call it liquid electricity.”

Unveiling the charger, Olectra Green Tech Ltd. managing director Mahesh Babu hailed it as a “game-changer” for India’s electric bus and fleet ecosystem. “It’s a breakthrough that slashes costs and wait times while boosting sustainability. Perfect for roadside assistance and depots as the grid catches up,” he said.

Trinity Cleantech executive director Raj Kumar added that the product is made under a patented licence from Germany’s ME Energy GmbH and is ready for rollout across India. “It offers a scalable, economical path for companies serious about decarbonising their operations,” he noted.

Inspired by Nitin Gadkari’s ethanol mission, the launch was attended by leaders from India’s clean mobility sector, including Chandramouli Vemula from SIDBI, who praised it as a perfect fit for the nation’s green-finance goals.

The rapid charger 150 isn’t just for EVs stranded on highways. It’s also ideal for remote depots, logistics hubs, mining zones, and even construction sites where grid access is tricky. Beyond transport, it could replace diesel gensets in residential and commercial spaces, offering both power and charging in one eco-friendly package.

With over 1,000 chargers across 60 cities, ThunderPlus has already become one of India’s fastest-growing EV charging companies, working with giants like Tata Motors, Olectra, and Mahindra. Trinity Cleantech, meanwhile, continues to push the boundaries of clean energy innovation.

Together, the two firms are proving that India’s future runs not just on electricity, but on ethanol-fuelled ingenuity. It’s not just a new charger on the block; it’s the start of a cleaner, cleverer India on the move.

  • Thunderplus, Bijliride team up to power India’s EV charging network

Thunderplus, Bijliride team up to power India’s EV charging network

MUMBAI: If chai breaks could charge your scooter, India’s EV story just got its perfect plug. Thunderplus, the country’s fastest-growing EV charging network, has teamed up with Bijliride, a SaaS-powered electric two-wheeler rental platform, to supercharge urban mobility with a partnership that’s equal parts speed, sustainability, and smarts.

The alliance aims to zap away India’s biggest EV worries, range anxiety and charging delays by integrating battery-swapping and fast-charging services across all 250 plus Thunderplus hubs. Think of it as the digital-age pit stop for everyone from gig workers on the go to students zipping through city traffic.

Under this collaboration, every Thunderplus hub will now feature BijliRide battery-swapping machines, allowing users to swap batteries in seconds instead of waiting for hours. For those who’d rather top up than swap out, there’s the new “Thunder Tej” 12 kW LEVDC fast charger, which powers two- and three-wheelers to 80 per cent in just 10 minutes, the time it takes to sip a cutting chai.

“At Thunderplus, we believe in collaboration over competition,” said Thunderplus CEO Rajeev YSR. “Our hubs will now evolve into multi-activity economic centres, offering not just fast charging but battery swapping and community access points for EV users.”

Hyderabad where Bijliride first plugged in continues to lead India’s electric mobility charge. The city’s vibrant mix of professionals, gig workers, and students makes it the perfect launchpad for Bijliride’s hub-and-spoke STAR expansion model.

“Our goal is simple make sustainable mobility as easy and convenient as ordering a cab,” said Bijliride CEO and co-founder Shivam Sisodiya. “By combining ThunderPlus’s infrastructure with our rental ecosystem, we’re creating connected pickup and drop-off points with charging, swapping, and service support all under one roof.”

The result? A city where no EV user is more than a few minutes from power. Whether it’s a delivery rider racing against time or a commuter heading to college, the partnership ensures smooth, stress-free rides without the dreaded battery panic.

Thunderplus and Bijliride also see this as the start of a nationwide circuit. After powering Hyderabad, Bijliride plans to roll out its STAR model in Delhi, Mumbai, and Bengaluru, expanding its 24/7 operational hubs and integrating charging, swapping, and rentals across India’s major metros.

For now, the first 24/7 flagship hub in Madhapur, Hyderabad sets the template, a connected, data-driven, user-first experience that redefines what “refuelling” means in an electric age.

“Together, we’re building not just charging stations but a smarter, cleaner, and more connected ecosystem,” added Rajeev. “The goal is simple: to make EV ownership as convenient as it is responsible.”

With Thunderplus providing the volts and Bijliride bringing the wheels, India’s EV future looks set to move faster, cleaner, and one chai break at a time.

Watt a Charge Thunderplus hits 200 hubs with new Hyderabad station

MUMBAI: Watt’s the buzz in Hyderabad? Ultra-fast charging, clean energy, and a green milestone. Thunderplus, India’s fastest-growing EV charging infrastructure startup, has flipped the switch on its latest ultra-fast charging station this time at Necklace Road MMTS Station in Hyderabad marking its 200th hub across the country.

In partnership with South Central Railway, the new flagship station is a key addition to Thunderplus’s mission of creating a cleaner, smarter electric mobility ecosystem. The company is now powering over 4,000 electric vehicles daily, dispensing more than 10 megawatt-hours of energy every day and preventing 35 metric tonnes of CO₂ emissions roughly the equivalent of planting over 1,600 trees daily.

The Hyderabad launch event saw participation from Rajeev YSR, CEO of Thunderplus; Vishal Arjun, divisional commercial manager, Secunderabad division; and executives from the State Bank of India, among others.

This high-speed station packs a punch with 120 kW charging bays (scalable to 480 kW), dynamic load-sharing tech, 24×7 central monitoring, and strategic access for commuters from Banjara Hills, Jubilee Hills, and Secunderabad.

Backing the expansion is Thunderplus’s Titanium Franchise model. “The Assured Business Guarantee programme gave us the confidence to invest,” said Arvind Kompelli, the station’s franchise partner. With entry investments starting at Rs 20 lakh, franchisees receive turnkey setup, centralised operations, and a revenue model with guaranteed returns.

“After seeing five-hour-plus daily usage at our Hitec City MMTS station, we’re expanding this model to more railway locations,” said Vishal Arjun of the Railways.

Next up: Thunderplus is planning a bold pivot from discom energy to renewable power, including solar-powered stations via Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs), to further reduce its carbon footprint.

With a presence in 60 plus cities and growing, ThunderPlus is not just sparking conversations, it’s charging ahead to lead India’s clean mobility transformation.
