    Tugg Library adds two Oscar nominated films

    MUMBAI: Tugg, Inc., a collective action web-platform that enables individuals to choose the films that play in their local theatres, has added Academy Award nominees The Tree of Life and Bullhead to its film library.


    The Tree of Life is one of the most critically acclaimed movies of 2011, having received 14 awards from critics groups across the country and appearing on over 100 Top 10 lists, the most of any film released last year.


    Observed The Tree of Life producer Sarah Green, “We believe The Tree of Life is a film people will want to see in theaters for generations to come. We are thrilled to be providing this opportunity for audiences to see it again, or for the first time, on the big screen; and to share the experience with their community.”
     
    A visceral crime drama that has received over 30 awards from film festivals across the world, Bullhead will expand theatrically in 20 new markets on 24 February.


    The film will be available through Tugg in markets where it does not have a traditional current or upcoming theatrical release.

    ICS honours Ashgar Farhadi film

    MUMBAI: Giving a different touch to the awards season, the International Cinephile Society (ICS) has given top honours to Asghar Farhadi‘s A Separation at its 9th annual awards. The film bagged awards in the best picture, best ensemble, best screenplay and best film not in the English language categories.
     
    Other major winners included Terrence Malick who bagged the award for the best director for The Tree of Life. While the best actor award was bagged by Tom Cullen (Weekend) and Brad Pitt (The Tree of Life), the best actress award went to Anna Paquin and J. Smith-Cameron (both for Margaret).


    Formed in 2003, the International Cinephile Society is an online group made up of approximately 80 accredited journalists, film scholars, historians and other industry professionals who cover film festivals and events on five continents.
     
    The ICS honours the finest in American and international cinema every year.

  • 10 films shortlisted for Oscar VFX category

    10 films shortlisted for Oscar VFX category

    MUMBAI: Members of the Visual Effects Branch of the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences have shortlisted ten films for the ‘Visual Effects‘ category.


    Among the films that have been shortlisted are Hugo, The Tree of Life, Captain America: The First Avenger, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2, Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, Real Steel, Rise of the Planet of the Apes, Transformers: Dark of the Moon and X-Men: First Class.


    All members of the visual effects branch of the Academy will view 10-minute excerpts from each of the 10 shortlisted films on January 19 and vote for five final nominees for the award.


    The 84th Academy Awards nominations will be announced on January 24.
