    Abby Awards 2022 ropes in three more international jury chairs

    Mumbai: The Abby Awards governing council has appointed three more international jury chairs to top off the power-packed jury panel this year. The new additions are Doordash executive creative director Mariota Essery, Ogilvy Latin America chief creative officer Jessica Appellaniz, and VMLY&R chief creative officer Asia Valerie Madon.

    Mariota Essery

    Mariota has worked on a multitude of global award-winning campaigns including Philips, adidas Football World Cup, North Face, Google and Gatorade. Awards won include Grand Prix at Cannes Lions, Epica Awards, Effies and NY AMEs.

    Jessica Appellaniz

    One of the very few women in a creative leading role across Latin America, Jessica was instrumental in winning the first D&AD Pencil for Mexico and has won at Cannes every year since her days as a creative director. Jessica has been a member of the Ogilvy Worldwide Creative Council.

    Valerie Madon

    Valerie has experience in brand building and integrated creative solutions for major brands such as Hewlett-Packard, Procter & Gamble, Singapore Airlines, HSBC, Burger King, VISA. Valerie has made her mark at Cannes, One Show, London International, and has won the Best Of Show and Grand Prix awards.

    The jury chair of this year’s Abby Awards is a gamut of stalwarts and renowned industry veterans from across the globe and India. They include names such as MullenLowe Lintas group chief creative officer and chairman Amer Jaleel, Elephant Design co-founder and director Ashwini Deshpande, Havas chairman and chief creative officer Bobby Pawar, BC Web Wise founder and MD Chaaya Bharadwaj, DDB Mudra Group chief creative officer Rahul Mathew, and Leo Burnett CEO and chief creative officer for South Asia Rajdeepak Das. In addition, Carlton D’Silva, Paresh Chaudhry, Praveen Someshwar, Rajat Ojha and Rekha Nigam have joined the Abbys 2022 jury panel.

    Apart from these, the panel this year also boasts of three international jury chairs namely, Menno Kluin, Aricio Fortes, and Myra Nussbaum from the global advertising industry, who will be judging the Abbys 2022.

    Mumbai: The Abby Awards Governing Council on Monday announced three names from the global advertising industry as jury chairs. This year, industry members Menno Kluin, Aricio Fortes, and Myra Nussbaum will be judging Abbys 2022.

    Menno Kluin is the chief creative officer of dentsu US with a string of big awards to his credit. Menno won the coveted ‘Creative Person of the Year 2021’ by US Campaign.com for his exceptional track record of creative success. His accolades include winning the ‘Most awarded Art Director  Worldwide,’ ‘Agency of the Year at Cannes,’ ‘Grand Prix,’ and ‘One Show’s Best in Discipline for  Digital Craft and Social Media,’ ‘Clio Agency of the Year,’ ‘ACD NY Agency of the Year,’ and  ‘Young Guns Agency of the Year.’ Menno leads the creative output of three dentsu agencies  – 360i, dentsuMB, and Isobar.

    BBDO China chief creative officer Aricio Fortes is also going to be jury chair at Abbys 2022. Aricio has won 44 Cannes Lions so far and he is still counting. He has won the Cannes Lion Agency of the Year four times for DM9DDB Brazil and Ogilvy Brazil in the past. Twenty of Aricio’s campaigns have won Lions and Pencils for large global brands McDonald’s, Procter & Gamble,  Walmart, Johnson & Johnson, IBM, FedEx, Pinterest, LEGO, and Mattel.

    Havas Chicago president and chief creative officer Myra Nussbaum is the third member of the jury chairs of Abbys 2022. Myra’s work for Valspar, which involved helping colourblind see colour for the first time, went on to win top honours at Cannes, One Show, and D&AD. Voted by Adweek as among the Top 30 Creative People in the world, Myra’s work has created emotional connections while significantly impacting business for such brands as Mars, KFC, Molson Coors, SC Johnson,  Dow, and Ford.

    “We are very fortunate to have Menno, Aricio and Myra chair some of the leading categories of ABBYs this year,” Abby Awards Governing Council’s Ajay Chandwani said. “All are contemporary creative superstars of our times and their versatility of being equally at home with traditional advertising and digital craft and social media makes them special advertising personalities.”

    The deadline for submission of entries has been extended until 1 April, according to the statement.

    Mumbai: South Asia’s pre-eminent awards for Creativity, Media and Communication, ABBY’s has joined hands with The One Show, the globally prestigious award program in advertising, design and digital marketing worldwide, thereby sharing the stage with other global and regional award platforms.

    The association seeks to create a new gold standard in recognising and awarding the region’s best creativity by bringing global standards of judging, jury selection and transparency to the established Indian Awards brand.

    The One Club for Creativity CEO Kevin Swanepoel said, the One Show is committed to raising the bar on creative judging standards all over the world. “With India already a rising new global creative powerhouse, the Abby Awards will further add shine to a very respected domestic creative program,” he said.

    The One Show’s Gold Pencil, which is regarded as one of the top prizes in the international creative industry for over 40 years, has a rich legacy of honouring some of the most ground-breaking ideas, created by some of the most remarkable minds in creativity across the globe.

    This year’s Abby’s will be a part of the Goafest in partnership with the AAAI and will mark the thirteenth Abby Award after a break of the last two years due to the pandemic.

    Elaborating on the association, The Ad Club president Partha Sinha said, “Abby’s has been India’s mainstay for 56 years when it comes to recognising creativity & innovation across the communication industry. We wanted to add more heft and give Abby’s a place on the global stage it so well deserves. The association with ‘The One Show’ will enhance our judging standards to match global best practices, help in the selection of juries and raise levels of transparency in the entire awarding process”.

    The Abby Awards will represent the South Asia region that includes India, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bangladesh and Pakistan and has been doing so since 2004. In keeping with contemporary trends, the Abby’s will include categories such as Direct, Design, Digital, Mobile, Technology, Still Craft, Digital Craft, Radio Craft, Video Craft, Brand Activation & Promotion, Branded Content & Entertainment, PR, Broadcaster and Publisher.

    The Awards Governing Committee for ABBY’s Awards includes eminent industry names such as Havas Group India Group CEO Rana Barua, (AGC Chairman), Goafest Organising Committee chairman & Another Idea founder Jaideep Gandhi, Times of India president Partha Sinha, IPG Mediabrands CEO-India Shashi Sinha, Publicis Groupe CEO South Asia Anupriya Acharya, Madison Communications chairman and managing director Sam Balsara, GroupM Media (India) CEO-South Asia Prasanth Kumar and FCB Group India Group Chairman & CEO Rohit Ohri, among others.

    The list of international judges will be announced by One Show after the process of selection of both Indian and international jury will get initiated.

    MUMBAI: The One Show, the world's most prestigious award show in advertising, design and digital marketing has named Ogilvy 2020 Network of the Year in recognition of outstanding work across disciplines on behalf of its clients. Ogilvy’s focus on collaboration and big creative ideas in any form—from gaming and commerce to mobile and social media—also resulted in DAVID Miami, one of its specialty brand companies, capturing the Agency of the Year honor.

    The Network of the Year honor is given to the network whose agencies have the most cumulative points for One Show Pencils won across all disciplines for the year. Over two dozen Ogilvy offices around the world contributed to the recognition by collectively winning 25 Gold, 17 Silver, 25 Bronze, 73 Merit awards for clients including Burger King, Coca-Cola, German Rail, IBM, Jimmy Dean, KFC, Kraft Heinz, Pernod Ricard, S.C. Johnson, and Sipsmith among others.

    Burger King, a client of DAVID, was named Client of the Year with several campaigns recognized this year.  “Moldy Whopper,” a collaboration between agencies including DAVID Miami and INGO (a joint venture of Ogilvy and Grey based in Sweden), was named Best of Show. “Moldy Whopper” won Best of Discipline in four categories—Film, Integrated, Print, and Out of Home—while “Stevenage Challenge” created by the Miami and Madrid offices of DAVID was named Best of Social Media. “Burn That Ad,” created by DAVID Sao Paulo, also took home pencils across several categories this year.

    “This recognition is a testament to Ogilvy’s ability to transform business and culture through creativity,” said Ogilvy Worldwide chief creative officer Piyush Pandey. “We want to thank our clients who entrust us with their brands and congratulate Fernando Machado and everyone at Burger King for winning Client of the Year.”

    This marks the fourth time Ogilvy has been named Network of the Year by The One Show. The previous three times were in 2017, 2014 and 2013—the year the category was launched.
