  • Entries open for NFDC Film Bazaar at IFFI 2017

    NEW DELHI: The National Film Development Corporation (NFDC), which hosts the Film Bazaar during the International Film Festival of India in November in Panaji, has invited entries for the 11th edition of NFDC Film Bazaar Co-Production Market

    The co-production market is for feature film projects with South Asian themes. The regular deadline for the entries is 7 August 2017 but it has been extended to 21 August 2017. The Bazaar will be held from 20 November 2017, the day the festival opens, and close on 24 November 2017.  

    Projects selected for the market will have the opportunity to forge international co-productions, find financial and artistic support, and network with Indian and international film professionals.

    Apart from the co-production market, the Bazaar also has regular market screenings, pitching meets and workshops on different aspects of film trade and film-making.

    Swachh Bharat Short Films Competition to encourage participative approach for Clean India

    NEW DELHI: The Government, which is planning a national survey from January next to review the effects of its Swachhta Abhiyaan, is organizing a Short Films Competition on the theme “Swachh Bharat” that showcases inspiring stories and helps generate awareness among citizens about sanitation and its linkages with public health.

    Entries have been invited by the National Film Development Corporation on behalf of Information & Broadcasting Ministry by 10 September 2016.

    The winning entries will be announced in a special felicitation programme to be held in New Delhi on 2 October 2016 which also marks Gandhi Jayanti.

    Awareness generation is an important objective of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan to bring about behavioral change in people regarding healthy sanitation practices. The competition aims to generate such awareness by involving people from different backgrounds, different regions and from different age groups.

    The short films competition is open to all age groups with its central theme revolving around the Swachh Bharat Mission. Short films with duration of not more than 3 minutes and shot in HDFormat will be considered for the competition.

    The film can be made in Hindi, English or any of the listed official languages of India.

    The Best Film will be awarded a cash prize of Rs 10 lakh and a certificate. Three Second Best Films will be awarded Rs 5 lakh each and six Third Best Films will be awarded Rs 2 lakh each.

    NFDC digitises classic films

    MUMBAI: The National Film Development Corporation (NFDC) has picked a few classic films like Kundan Shah’s Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro (1983) and Ketan Mehta’s Mirch Masala (1987) among many others for digital restoration that will involve betterment of the video quality of the films and the sound as well as.


    Other films that have also been taken up for digitisation include Govind Nihalani’s Party (1984), Shyam Benegal’s Suraj Ka Satvan Ghoda (1992) and Sudhir Mishra’s Dharavi (1991).


    Apart from the Hindi movies mentioned above, the corporation will also release re-mastered films of other regional languages. “Our endeavour has always been to be able to restore and protect cinema of all languages. With this title, we will be reaching out to newer (and younger) audiences with cinema that could have been lost in today’s day-and-age. We will release such packages regularly. The first lot, of course, will come out in February,” said NFDC senior official Rajesh Das in a statement.


    Six such titles will be made available to audiences this month on home video.
