  • Amazon Prime signs multi-year deal with Warner Bros.

    MUMBAI: Amazon has announced an exclusive long-term content deal with Warner Bros. International Television Distribution which brings the biggest, latest and most popular movies and TV shows from the Warner Bros. repertoire to Amazon Prime members in India. Amazon Prime Video will now be the exclusive subscription screening home to some of the latest movies like Sully, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice, Suicide Squad, The Conjuring 2, Lights Out along with evergreen titles like Godzilla, Edge of Tomorrow, Annabelle, Into the Storm to name a few. Apart from the movie library, hundreds of popular hit TV shows like Lethal Weapon, Supernatural, Blindspot, The Last Ship, 2 Broke Girls, The Vampire Diaries, The Originals and more are also available at the same time as their US premiere to Prime members. The deal also includes the hit comedy, Two and a Half Men, which concluded its 12-season run in 2015.

    Way back in 1950, the Indian Constitution came into being on 26 January and India was proclaimed as a sovereign, democratic and a republic. This day, which marks the birth of our republic is celebrated across the country and television channels across the board are not far behind in entertaining their viewers on this National Holiday.

    Zee Cafe will premiere a marathon of Cougar Town’s complete final season starting from 1:30 pm.

     

    In the final season of the crazy, wine-drinking suburban gang, Laurie and Travis take things to the next level. While a new job takes Bobby out of the state, Grayson takes on a position as a music teacher. The end of the series sees Jules and the rest, including Tom, going through several major changes.

    The channel will celebrate this historic day by holding a parade at Mumbai’s Bandra Bandstand at 7:50 am where children from more than 40 schools will participate and walk along with navy and air-force officers to pay their tribute to the country.

    The channel will premiere special episodes of Kisna on 26 January from 9 am.

    On the occasion of Republic Day, Discovery Channel will premiere Siachen at 9 pm. It is a one-hour special programme, which will take viewers through the extreme frontline in the world. It will present the remarkable chronicles of soldiers and their formidable challenges to manage the battlefield where temperatures reach minus 60 degrees.

     

    National Geographic

     

    The channel will celebrate this day by showcasing an exclusive documentary, BSF: India’s First Line of Defence. The documentary will showcase the history, ethos, men and machines of the extraordinary border security force. The show saw its premiere on 25 January, 2016 at 9 pm.

     

    History TV18

     

    History TV18 will air three episodes of Gandhi, which is the first descriptive series on the life of Gandhi examines his relationship with his wife and his role on the path to Indian independence. The channel will air the episodes from 9 – 11 am followed by a repeat at 6 pm.

     

    Following this will be Dynamo Magician Impossible, which is a story on Dynamo heading to India on an epic adventure, which sees him travel from the streets of Mumbai to the sacred city of Varanasi for the annual Holi festival. The show will air at 12 pm with a repeat telecast at 5 pm.

     

    The Birth of Empire: East India Company, revealing how the behemoth that was the East India Company grew into an imperial power, and become the hotbed of corruption and greed that led to its downfall will air from 1 pm followed by the part 1 and 2 of India on 4 Wheels starting from 3 – 5 pm.

     

    The season 2 of VICE – The Pink Gang Rebellion & Genetic Passport will be aired at 9 pm on the channel.

    CNN-IBN will telecast a range of special programming, which will include an exclusive show Saluting Bravehearts to pay tribute to the martyrs of the Pathankot terror attack. The show will air exclusively on the channel at 4:30 pm and 8:30 pm.

     

    The special half-hour show will showcase the stories of the seven martyrs who sacrificed their lives in the deadly terror attack in Pathankot in the first week of January. The documentary will be strung together with candid interviews with the family members of the martyrs.

     

    Apart from this, the channel will also feature the live coverage of the Republic Day parade from 9 am.

     

    DD National / DD Bharati

     

    Even as Doordarshan’s National channel will carry the live telecast of the Republic Day Parade and All India Radio will broadcast the commentary, DD Bharati has scheduled several programmes to mark India’s 67th Republic Day on 26 January.

     

    DD National and All India Radio will broadcast the address to the nation by President Pranab Mukherjee from 7 pm this evening. This will be followed by regional language translations by respective DD kendras all over the country.

     

    DD Bharati will telecast on 25 January at 6 pm a programme on Shaheed Bhagat Singh called Lagenge Har Baras Mele. The half-hour biographical is a snapshot on the life of Bhagat Singh and his remarkable contribution in the freedom struggle.

     

    Freedom Struggle and Indian Poetry will be telecast under the slot Sahitya Bharati to enlighten viewers on the motivational spirit of Indian poets during the Indian freedom struggle. The half-hour programme will be telecast on 25, 26 and 27 January at 8 pm.

     

    Swaraj Ki Goonj, a special programme on the significant role cinema played during the freedom struggle, will be telecast on 25 and 26 January at 10.30 pm.

     

    DD Bharati and DD Chandana will also telecast live, the launch by Prasar Bharati chairman Dr Surya Prakash of AIR Raagam, the 24×7 classical channel of All India Radio at 6 pm on 26 January.

    The special line-up of programmes on IBN7 will focus on a spectrum of topic ranging from the winners of this year’s National Bravery Awards to India’s defence contingent and its capabilities.

    Colors Infinity to launch new shows & premieres in tune with US telecast

    MUMBAI: Viacom 18’s newly launched English entertainment channel Colors Infinity is all set to woo audiences with its new line-up of shows, starting September. The channel will be airing shows just 12 hours after their US telecast.

     

    The new line-up boasts of shows like Mr. Robot, Tyrant, The Last Ship, Chasing Life, The Night Shift and the weekend special Black Mirror, all of which will be aired in India for the first time.

     

    In addition to this are the ‘Instant Premieres,’ which will air within 12 hours of their US telecast, with shows like The Player, Heroes Reborn, Blindspot, The Flash (Season 2), iZombie (Season 2), Arrow (Season 4) and Fargo (Season 2).

     

    Viacom18 EVP & head of English entertainment Ferzad Palia said, “We started with the idea of disruption in the English entertainment arena in India, with back-to-back episodes and now we up the ante with our Instant Premieres, where we will be airing the biggest new series and seasons within 12 hours of the US telecast. Viewers here will be watching incredible new shows on Colors Infinity, only a few hours after their American counterparts. There is no need to illegally download anymore.”

    Turner Broadcasting inks multi-year SVOD deal with Hulu

    MUMBAI: Turner Broadcasting System and Hulu have entered into an extensive, multi-year licensing agreement that will grant Hulu the exclusive SVOD rights to previous seasons of Turner’s popular programming from Cartoon Network and Adult Swim as well as select current and upcoming series from TNT and TBS.

     

    The deal marks the first-ever licensing agreement between Turner Broadcasting and Hulu.

     

    All episodes from past seasons of TNT’s The Last Ship and Murder in the First will be available to stream exclusively for Hulu subscribers. Additionally, all episodes from past seasons of popular Adult Swim original series including Rick and Morty, Black JesusNTSF:SD:SUV and Cartoon Network original series such as The Amazing World of GumballSteven UniverseOver the Garden Wall and Clarence will be made available to stream through an SVOD service for the first time ever on Hulu. All Cartoon Network series will be available to stream ad-free in the Hulu Kids environment.

     

    Full prior seasons of Adult Swim and Cartoon Network series such as Aqua Teen Hunger Force, Dexter’s Laboratory and Ben 10, as well as current juggernauts Robot Chicken, The Venture Bros., Adventure Time and Regular Show will be available to stream exclusively to Hulu subscribers for the first time through the deal. Hulu will also become the exclusive SVOD destination to stream Adult Swim and Cartoon Network classics, including Tim and Eric Awesome ShowGreat Job!, Sealab 2021 and The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack.

     

    Through the agreement, Hulu obtains exclusive SVOD rights to certain future series that will launch on TNT, TBS, Adult Swim and Cartoon Network over the coming years – including TBS’s upcoming series Angie Tribeca, which will be available to stream exclusively on Hulu after its full-season run on TBS.

     

    “This deal with Hulu demonstrates the power of Turner Broadcasting’s branded networks and the high demand for our programming in the marketplace. This is a great opportunity to grow the reach of the networks’ original programming and complements our strategy of utilizing multiple platforms – including SVOD – to drive sampling, introduce new viewers to our content and give current fans the opportunity to explore and enjoy Turner’s new and existing series in a branded environment,” said Turner Broadcasting president David Levy.

     

    “The addition of multiple titles from Cartoon Network represents a significant step forward in continuing to build a strong programming offering for the kids audience on Hulu.
