Mumbai: The Chinese box-office helped The Dark Knight garner the number one position on the foreign theatrical circuit though locally it stood at the second spot.
With an estimated overseas weekend collection of $46.4 million from as many as 10,156 theatres in 64 territories, the Batman sequel pulled in an estimated $28.5 million from Monday through Sunday from nearly 4,100 situations in China, according to distributor Warner Bros.
Also opening in China was the weekend‘s No. 2, Sony‘s The Amazing Spider-Man, the fourth title in the blockbuster series, which made its international debut on 27 June.
Of the total intake of $33.7 million from 7,125 sites in 59 markets, $33.3 million came from China over a seven-day period. This was more than that Spider-Man 3 grossed in its total China run. The total foreign collection of Amazing now stands at $475.3 million.
Millennium-Nu Image Films‘ The Expendables 2, last weekend‘s No. 1 title on the foreign theatrical circuit, is likely to go down to the No. 3 this week once all the numbers come in later this week.
The action sequel co0starring Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Chuck Norris, Jean-Claude Van Dammes and Arnold Schwarzenegger opened at No. 1 in Brazil, Germany, Australia and ($564,053 from 66 sites) in Austria.
The film also remained No. 1 in its second France round and extracted $2.3 million from 870 spots in Italy and Russia via Universal pushing the two-market total to $22.8 million.

The Expendables 2 to release on 24 August
MUMBAI: Multivision Multimedia, an independent distribution house in the Indian subcontinent, will be releasing The Expendables 2 in India on 24 August.
The film is a re-union of the old-school mercenaries, where the team is compelled to seek revenge when one of their brothers is viciously killed. Hell-bent on payback, the crew cuts a swath of destruction through opposing forces, wreaking havoc and shutting down an unexpected threat in the nick of time.
The film, produced by Danny Lerner, Les Weldon, Avi Lerner and Kevin-King Templeton and directed by Simon West, features Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Chuck Norris, Jean Claude Van Damme, Bruce Willis, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Terry Crews, Randy Couture, Liam Hemsworth, Scott Adkins, Amanda Ooms and Charisma Carpenter among others.
The film was shot in Bulgaria late 2011 and its principal photography was completed in Hong Kong and New Orleans early this year.
The film will be released in more than 800 screens across the country in four different languages.

Arnold Schwarzenegger to return to action films with Ten
MUMBAI: Arnold Schwarzenegger has decided to return to making action fims with Ten, a project written by screenwriter Skip Woods and director David Ayer.
Ten revolves around the members of an elite DEA task force who depart from their usual operations and steal millions from a drug cartel safe house. Just when the team thinks they got away with it, someone begins to take out them out one by one.
The film, that will be financed by QED International, will be distributed in the US by Open Road Films.
Schwarzenegger‘s casting puts the project on the runway after several years of development. Bruce Willis and Patrick Alessandrin (District 13: Ultimatum) once were attached to star and direct, respectively.
Schwarzenegger, who is acting in The Tomb, will appear in The Expendables 2 that is to be released in August.
Ayer, known initially as a screenwriter with films like Training Day under his belt, had made his directorial debut with 2005‘s crime drama Harsh Times.

Sequel to Hunger Games coming
MUMBAI: Liam Hemsworth, whose recent release Hunger Games has been doing very good at the box office, says he is looking forward to the sequel of the film.
The 22-year-old, who plays Gale has confirmed that the shooting for the second film will begin soon. "I‘m a fan of the books and would be extremely happy to shoot the other two. We‘re going to hopefully shoot, if this does as well as what everyone thinks it‘s going to, I think we‘ll shoot the second one later on this year," Hemsworth has reportedly said.
The original had Hemsworth team up with Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hemsworth that Gary Ross directed.Hemsworth will soon be seen in The Expendables 2.

Accident grips The Expendables 2 shoot
MUMBAI: A stuntman died while another injured while shooting for star-studded Hollywood action film The Expendables 2 in Bulgaria, it is understood.
The incident occurred while the two men were shooting a scene involving an explosion in a rubber boat near a dam on Lake Ognyanovo in southwestern Bulgaria last Thursday.
The production unit of the film, written by Sylvester Stallone, was shooting in the mountain resort village of Bansko where the accident happened. “It is with great regret that we confirm this unfortunate accident,” said a statement by producers Image/Millennium Films. “Our hearts go out to the families and those on the production affected by this tragedy,”the statement added.
The Expendables 2, starring Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger, Bruce Willis and Jean-Claude Van Damme, is a follow-up of the 2010 action blockbuster. The film has been scheduled for release in August next year.
