    Dentsu Webchutney appoints Samera Khan as EVP

    MUMBAI: Dentsu Webchutney, the digital agency from the Dentsu Aegis Network, has roped in Samera Khan as EVP- Strategy and Planning. Samera will be based out of Mumbai and will report to Dentsu Webchutney CEO Sidharth Rao.

    As part of her new mandate, Khan will head creative strategy and planning for the agency across its offices in Mumbai, Delhi and Bengaluru.

    Commenting on her appointment, Khan said, “I am excited about this new role that I take on with Dentsu Webchutney. They have a unique way of approaching digital advertising with a spot-on understanding of culture and technology. And to partner with a distinct set of creative and strategic talent makes this even more exciting and challenging.”

    Commenting on the appointment, Rao said, “Dentsu Webchutney has entered its next phase of growth and it’s absolutely essential for us that we use the right kind of partners to steer this growth forward. Samera has immense international experience along with advertising experience in India on some of the biggest brands in the world. This gives her a unique edge on strategy and understanding of the human mind. This will add to the strength that holds the Dentsu Webchutney fort together. I am extremely happy to welcome her on board.”

    With more than 12 years of experience, Khan has worked with agencies including Ogilvy, DraftFCB and Havas Worldwide.

    Some of the brands that Samera has worked on internationally and in India include Vodafone, Nestlé, Unilever, Volkswagen, Porsche, Hyundai, Mitsubishi, IKEA, Taco Bell, Pizza Hut, The Economist, HDFC Bank, BPCL, Sanofi and Hockey India to name a few.

    RIP David Abbott, you will be missed!

    MUMBAI : If you are someone who keeps a keen eye on British advertising then you will surely know who David Abbott was. Abbott, a British advertising executive and founder of Abbott Mead Vickers BBDO, passed away on Saturday, aged 75.

    Abbott started his career in advertising as a copywriter at Mather & Crowther and later got associated with DDB, London. It was in 1971, when he founded French Gold Abbott. After seven years he headed to establish Abbott Mead Vickers (AMV).

    Abbott got his due recognition when he was in AMV. The veterans in the industry know Abbott as a person with wit and sharp vision. He is known for creating some classic campaigns for brands such as Volvo, Sainsbury’s, Ikea, Chivas Regal, The Economist, Yellow Pages, and the RSPC. In 1991 BBDO acquired a stake in AMV and appended its name.

    He is also known to have authored a book titled, “The Upright Piano Player” in 2010.

    According to international news portals, it is understood that D&AD plans to pay tribute to Abbott at its awards ceremony this week.

    David Mayo is bates Asia CEO

    MUMBAI: David Mayo will take over as bates Asia CEO later this month. This was announced by the agency network‘s chairman in Asia Tim Isaac, who retires by the end of October.

    Mayo‘s stint in Asia started in 1994 as he came from London to join bates in Hong Kong. He was then hired by Isaac to join Ogilvy & Mather in 1997 to run Guinness, among other regional business. He has been instrumental in founding creative boutique, RedCard and after 2005 went on to hold several key senior roles at Ogilvy, including Ogilvy & Mather Advertising president and later as of Ogilvy & Mather ASEAN president.

    Isaac said, “David is one of Asia‘s most experienced and creative agency leaders with a very strong track record in building brands and driving creativity. He is a born entrepreneur and has put many of our clients‘ brands firmly ahead of their competitors. He is the right person to build on the good work and the platform that has been established and to take bates to the next level in its long history in Asia.”

    Mayo‘s track record with clients in Asia such as Guinness, Nike, Gillette, The Economist, Motorola, Coke and Diageo will bring added impetus to Bates as the agency model changes in Asia. His brief will be to galvanize the agency leadership, develop the bates brand and establish a new network model.

    When I originally came to Asia in 1994, it was to work at bates, said Mayo. “It has a very strong track record as a maverick and creative brand in Asia and it has a unique place in a region of the world where more and more clients are asking for the bespoke and the personal. We will take bates to the next level. I am returning to take this heritage and fashion a fresh new agency offer for ambitious brand owners across the region.”

    Ogilvy & Mather Asia Pacific chairman Paul Health said, “David‘s verve, energy and drive will be the perfect tonic for bates. David has done a brilliant job at Ogilvy across the region for more than a decade. I will miss him personally but am delighted he remains part of the broader family.”

    NewsX ties up with The Economist for weekend show

    MUMBAI: English news channel NewsX has tied up with international publisher, The Economist, to launch a weekly show called The Economist. Launching on this Saturday at 2:45 pm, while the show is packaged and produced by NewsX, The Economist will provide the content.

    The show will provide comprehensive analysis of global news from The Economist. It is spread over two segments,Politics This Week and Business This Week, which gives a concise commentary on the socio political stories and the key global business developments of the week.

    INX News chairperson Indrani Mukerjea says, “Our new weekly news programme, The Economist, is an initiative to fulfill our objective to provide complete and a global perspective on news from across the spectrum. We see the launch of this programme as the beginning of a long term association with The Economist.”
