  • Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu nets Rs 355 mn in 10 days at BO

Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu nets Rs 355 mn in 10 days at BO

MUMBAI: Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu, which collected Rs 313 million in its first week, could not make much of the poor oppositions in its second weekend due to the word of mouth going against it.

The film‘s shows were curtailed or cancelled at many cinemas except in metros. Opening with just about Rs 5 million on the second Friday, it adds little over Rs 40 million to its seven day total taking its 10 day tally to Rs 355 million.

Meanwhile, with its poor content all round, no music to back this love story and a weak lead pair result in Ekk Deewana Tha being rejected outright. Opening to poor response, the film manages a weekend of just short of Rs 30 million.

The other two releases, Married 2 America and ? (Question mark) just added to statistics of number of releases, while Valentine‘s Night went unnoticed.

Gali Gali Chor Hai collected Rs 4 million to take its two week total to Rs 49 million; a disaster.

Agneepath got some benefit of poor oppositions to collected Rs 67 million in its third week; its three week total now being at Rs 1.18 billion.

The Dirty Picture added Rs 7 million in its 11th week taking its total to date to Rs 846.1 million.

  • Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu nets Rs 195 mn in opening weekend

Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu nets Rs 195 mn in opening weekend

MUMBAI: With poor content and having failed to generate any excitement, Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu opened to a timid response.

The collections improved marginally on Saturday and reached a peak to decent collections on Sunday to end the opening weekend with Rs 195 million. The Sunday collections were better at metro multiplexes; drop as the new week opens is noticeable.

Gali Gali Chor Hai, a dull satire on corrupt system, finds total rejection, barely managing to complete its seven-day run at most centres. It ended the week with Rs 45 million.

Love You To Death added some more loss to its making budget of Rs 25 million in the form of release cost.

Agneepath reaped the benefit of inconsequential opposition and went on to collect a reasonable Rs 233 million in its second week to take its total to Rs 1.11 billion.

Of the previous releases, Chaalis Chaurasi and Ghost (fourth week), Players (fifth) and Don2 (seventh), the collection was between few thousands to couple of lakhs of rupees, thus hardly impacting their standings.

The Dirty Picture is the only film to add over half a million with collections of Rs 600,000 to take its total to Rs 839.1 million.

Agneepath nets Rs 620 mn in opening weekend

MUMBAI: Agneepath, a remake of the 1990 film of the same title from Dharma Productions, has taken an outstanding opening, making the most of its release on Thursday, 26 January, the Republic Day holiday.

The opening day collections touched an all time high of Rs 230 million. However, due to lack of appreciation and bad worth of mouth, the film registered a drastic drop of over 50 per cent over the next two days.

The collections of the Hrithik Roshan-starrer gained some respectability on Sunday to end the weekend at approximately Rs 620 million.

Meanwhile, Chaalis Chaurasi has collected Rs 6 million in its second week, taking its total to Rs 27 million.

Ghost remains reasonably steady and manages to stay above the Rs 10 million-mark in its second week to collect Rs 13 million. Its two-week collections stand at Rs 81 million.

Players added Rs 25 million in its third week, taking its total to Rs 290 million.

MUMBAI: Poor performance at the box office has haunted the makers of Ghost and Chaalis Chaurasi. The other two releases last week, Sadda Adda and Tutiya Dil, have even fared more dismally.

While Ghost has netted Rs 68 million in its first week, Chaalis Chaurasi collected Rs 21 million. Sadda Adda and Tutiya Dil couldn‘t even touch Rs 10 million.

Said Balaji Motion Pictures, Distribution and Acquisition head Girish Johar, “The movie is doing well. We have almost thrashed a deal to increase the number of screens the film is showing from around 40 to 100 from this Friday.”

To a question as to why was the home video rights given at a time when the film was still going strong, Johar quipped, “ Normally, the home video rights are given away after the fourth week and our film is already six weeks old. We decided to bring out the film on home video for we knew that people will lap it up and in the process, we would be able to monetise on that front too.”

The Dirty Picture, which released worldwide on 2 December in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu, has Vidya Balan, Naseeruddin Shah, Emraan Hashmi and Tusshar Kapoor among others.

MUMBAI: Chaalis Chaurasi has done fair business at single screens and collected Rs 13.5 million over the opening weekend.

Ghost has netted Rs 14 million during its first weekend while Sadda Adda‘s collections remained poor.

Players, the first of the three-film structural deal project between Viacom18 and Wave, has proved a debacle all around. Though Rs 360 million had been paid till the film’s delivery by Wave, the cut off recovery target was set at Rs 260 million with the balance amount to be treated as advance. Wave is said to have recovered about Rs 90 million by selling circuits excluding Delhi-UP, Punjab and Bombay.

The heist film has been able to collect a mere Rs 216 million in its first week. As things stand after the film’s poor show, Viacom 18 is reported to have offered Vidhya Balan starrer Kahani to Wave for nil consideration as compensation.
