Water ATMs flow hope in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar

MUMBAI: Making a splash in rural Maharashtra! Community-managed Water ATMs are transforming life in ten villages of Phulambri block, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. Installed by Anandana, The Coca-Cola India Foundation in partnership with the S M Sehgal Foundation, these kiosks deliver safe, affordable drinking water while boosting groundwater recharge and strengthening local livelihoods.

Part of Anandana’s Refreshing Difference campaign, the Water ATMs have already sparked real change. Digital films capture stories from residents who are seeing tangible benefits every day. Savitri, an Asha worker, shares how she no longer relies on unsafe water or expensive bottled supplies. Kalpana, an Anganwadi Sevika, highlights the relief women feel by avoiding long treks to fetch water. Meanwhile, Kailash, the Water Management Committee secretary, points to savings and improved livelihoods thanks to affordable water access.

Other voices like Nanda and Yogesh describe fewer waterborne illnesses and healthier families, allowing more time for school and agriculture. These accounts reveal the human side of sustainable technology, showing how community engagement and partnership come together to make a real difference.

S M Sehgal Foundation CEO Anjali Makhija said, “The Water ATMs provide families with daily access to safe water while our recharge initiatives improve local water security. This partnership offers long-term relief for villages.”

Anandana director Rajiv Gupta added, “These Water ATMs are more than clean water. They restore dignity, support livelihoods, and create sustainable ecosystems. Through our Refreshing Difference campaign, we are proud to showcase the power of community partnerships.”

Anandana and the Sehgal Foundation have been expanding safe drinking water access across India through Project Jaldhara, enhancing water availability in drought-prone regions and supporting agriculture and rural development in Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Andhra Pradesh, and Karnataka.

This initiative proves that a simple drop can ripple into lasting change, quenching more than just thirst in India’s villages.

Coca-Cola India Foundation recaps ‘Maidaan Saaf’ campaign in Puri

MUMBAI– The Coca-Cola India Foundation, Anandana has unveiled a new video spotlighting its recent Used PET Bottle-Free initiative. This initiative was part of the Maidaan Saaf campaign, which promotes responsible plastic waste collection, segregation, and recycling at various events. The effort was carried out in collaboration with Hindustan Coca-Cola Beverages, Puri Municipality, District Administration Puri, the Odisha Development Management Programme (ODMP), and the Y4D Foundation.

The newly released video highlights the on-ground activation that mobilized nearly 200 volunteers, deployed 200 dustbins, and installed 10 collection kiosks along the Yatra route. Featuring voices from Coca-Cola India, ODMP, and the Y4D Foundation, along with a Safai Saathi, the video underscores the importance of collective action in driving meaningful change.

“The recent Puri event brought with it immense scale, and the responsibility to manage its impact with care,” said Coca-Cola India and Southwest Asia Senior Director – ESG Value Creation & Commercialisation, Saloni Goel. “Every element of this initiative was designed in alignment with the city’s needs and built on the principle of collective action. This was an opportunity to contribute to the larger purpose, and to do it with intent.”

Odisha Development Management Programme (ODMP) vice chairman Pradeep Kumar added, “This year, just like the last, we witnessed even better cooperation from the government and the municipality. The Safai Sathis we engaged experienced economic development, having gained employment during the Puri event.”

“This kind of awareness initiative went beyond just speeches or pamphlets, we implemented a mechanism on the ground,” said Y4D Foundation president Praful Nikam. “With dedicated cleanliness drives, daily waste collection, and motivating engaging the public and managing waste, we were able to create a system that was both sustainable and impactful.”

“When we cleaned up the waste, others noticed and followed,” said Shantilika Pradhan, a Safai Saathi engaged in the initiative. “People saw us using the dustbins which motivated them to do the same. That’s how change began, by setting an example.”

These collective efforts reflect a shared responsibility to environmental stewardship and demonstrate how collaboration between civic bodies, corporate partners, and local communities can drive meaningful change.

  • Sip happens Ayodhya gets its first taste of smart water access

Sip happens Ayodhya gets its first taste of smart water access

MUMBAI: Why carry a bottle when Ayodhya now pours clean, cold water on tap? In a move that’s part hydration, part transformation, Anandana, The Coca-Cola India Foundation, in partnership with SM Sehgal Foundation and Ayodhya Nagar Nigam, has turned up the public health dial with the installation of community water ATMs across key areas of the city. The initiative puts reliable, RO-purified drinking water at the fingertips of residents and pilgrims alike no app required.

Each ATM is connected to the Nagar Nigam’s municipal supply and backed by overhead storage tanks. The water is filtered through a Reverse Osmosis system, stored in stainless steel chilled tanks, and dispensed via hygienic external taps. The result? Round-the-clock, walk-up access to clean, cool water in one of India’s most spiritual and frequently visited cities.

The Coca-Cola India Foundation director Rajiv Gupta said, “Access to drinking water is a fundamental pillar of public health and community well-being. Our partnership with Ayodhya Nagar Nigam and the SM Sehgal Foundation is a strategic initiative that demonstrates our commitment to help improving water accessibility in the region through better infrastructure and local collaboration.”

S M Sehgal Foundation trustee and CEO Anjali Makhija said, “Water is vital, and through our collaboration with Anandana, The Coca-Cola India Foundation, we help create solutions for communities. The installation of water ATMs in Ayodhya marks a significant step towards ensuring access to hydration, especially in a city that welcomes millions of pilgrims and visitors each year.”

Ayodhya Nagar Nigam Municipal commissioner Santosh Sharma said, “This initiative underscores the positive role of public-private partnerships in enhancing urban infrastructure. Together with Coca-Cola India Foundation, we’re addressing the need for reliable drinking water across key areas in Ayodhya, benefiting both residents and visitors. By strengthening the city’s water access, this effort is a crucial part of our broader commitment to improving civic amenities and ensuring a sustainable, community-centered development.”

The effort is part of a broader Coca-Cola India Foundation strategy that’s already impacted over one million lives. Through Project Jaldhara, the Foundation in collaboration with SM Sehgal Foundation has led water conservation efforts across Kolar (Karnataka), Anantapur (Andhra Pradesh), and Aurangabad (Maharashtra). Their interventions range from check dam construction and tank desilting to decentralised water systems, designed to fight water stress from the grassroots up.

Ayodhya now becomes the next ripple in that wave. As India heats up and demand for public hydration rises, these ATMs offer more than a moment of relief, they’re a blueprint for civic innovation.

Because in today’s world, a sip well-served is a civic duty well done.
