  • Meesho to strengthen its presence in the regional markets

Meesho to strengthen its presence in the regional markets

Mumbai: The fastest growing internet commerce platform, Meesho, has announced the addition of eight new vernacular languages to its platform in line with its mission to democratise internet commerce for everyone.

The move comes just ahead of the festive season, when millions of users from all corners of the country are expected to transact on the platform.

These additional languages are Bengali, Telugu, Marathi, Tamil, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, and Odia. Meesho customers can now select their preferred language for accessing account and product information, placing and tracking orders, and making payments on Android phones.

To ensure an accurate and authentic experience in these new languages, Meesho derived key insights from user research and worked closely with expert linguists. The team chose commonly used words over full translation to mirror everyday language and make the shopping experience seamless. For example, the literal translation for the word “required” in Hindi is “anivarya,” but “zaroori” is more widely understood. In total, around 33,000 English words were translated into each of these eight languages.

Last year, Meesho introduced Hindi as a language option on the platform, which has seen a high adoption rate of 20 per cent so far.

The majority of Meesho customers come from tier 2+ cities like Ahmedabad, Vadodara, and Jamshedpur and non-Hindi-speaking states, where English or Hindi may not always be the language of choice. Hence, this latest initiative will boost Meesho’s adoption in these areas and further simplify the online shopping experience for millions of customers.

Speaking on of the development, Meesho founder and CTO Sanjeev Barnwal said, “It is important to note that 50 per cent of our users are new to e-commerce and have probably never transacted on such platforms before. By introducing vernacular languages on the platform, Meesho aims to eliminate language barriers. This is a natural step in our journey to becoming the single shopping destination for the next billion users in India. Our teams have worked tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure that the platform is 100 per cent accurate and relevant in all these 8 vernacular languages.”

  • Zee Telugu to premiere ‘Mukkupudaka’ on 11 July

Zee Telugu to premiere ‘Mukkupudaka’ on 11 July

Mumbai: Adding new content to its cutting-edge lineup of shows, Zee Telugu is all set to launch its new serial Mukkupudaka. Zee Telugu has always aimed at entertaining its audience with an array of unique fiction shows ranging from romantic tales to mythological and supernatural narratives as well as family dramas. Joining the trend, Mukkupudaka will be a traditional and deep-rooted family drama.

The show will hit screens on 11 July and air every Monday to Saturday at 8 p.m, only on Zee Telugu.

Steering clear from the usual mother-in-law and daughter-in-law tussle, Mukkupudaka revolves around Vedavati’s desperate search for a daughter-in-law who could be her successor in fulfilling a religious obligation to save their village from the wrath of Goddess Annapurna Devi. The catch here is that the daughter-in-law’s horoscope must completely match Vedavati’s horoscope. What’s more is that her younger son, Srikar (Raki Gowda), is Vedavati’s only hope as her money-minded elder son goes against her wishes. While Vedavati’s search continues, Srikar falls in love with Avani (Aishwarya Pisse), a tourist guide in their city.

But will Avani’s horoscope match Vedavati’s horoscope? If not, will Vedavati accept Avani as her daughter-in-law? And why did Goddess Annapurna get angry in the first place? And what obligation did she put on the village? With plenty of questions in everyone’s mind and with several twists and turns in the tale, we are sure the audience will enjoy this thrilling yet emotional rollercoaster ride.

  • Snapdeal bats for southern markets with new digital campaign

Snapdeal bats for southern markets with new digital campaign

Mumbai: E-commerce platform Snapdeal has announced its brand campaign called “Brand Waali Quality, Bazaar Waali Deal” in southern markets, including Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, and Kerala. The campaign targets savvy, value-conscious buyers while communicating the e-tailer’s unique value proposition for high utility items, including fashion, accessories, homeware, and more.

The campaign takes a lighthearted dig at the burden users feel about desiring a “branded” lifestyle. Moving the humorous narrative forward, it showcases how the users are liberated from this burden when they discover the depth of high-quality, affordable selection available on Snapdeal. The campaign comes to life through a series of videos in Kannada, Telugu, and Tamil and will be live across all social media platforms like YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and OTT entertainment networks like Hotstar and MX Player.

However, taking a unique approach in the Malayalam speaking market, Snapdeal will run the campaign with Youtube Creator Promotions and Facebook Branded Content Ads only and has partnered with 30+ creators/influencers like Kalidas Jayaram, Ahaana Krishna, and Shamees Kitchen to create 100+ content pieces that will reach out to relevant audiences in Kerala & other southern states.

So far, many people believe that online shopping cannot match their experience of local shopping, which caters to their choices and sensibilities and assures them the comfort of buying from known places. While value retail has traditionally thrived in India’s bazaars and in more recent times through modern format value retailers, an online equivalent of the same was missing.

Speaking on the launch of the campaign, Snapdeal brand marketing director Soumyadip Chatterjee said, “With Snapdeal’s Brand Waali Quality Bazaar Waali Deal, we are breaking the myth that only expensive & branded products offer good quality. It also highlights our positioning as a leading value e-commerce platform. We also want to create awareness among people that good quality doesn’t have to cost extra, and they can now find many suitable options and choices online from the comfort of their homes.”

“Tamil Nadu/Karnataka/Kerala/Andhra Pradesh and Telangana are a significant customer base for Snapdeal, and the scope & potential to increase our reach in these markets is immense,” he added.

Earlier this year, Snapdeal had launched its Brand Waali Quality, Bazaar Waali Deal, for its Hindi speaking market with a series of 10 videos starring  Bollywood actors Riteish Deshmukh and Genelia Deshmukh.
