    Vod music service Music Choice exceeds 200 mn views on Comcast in first year

    MUMBAI: Multi-platform music network in the US Music Choice has announced that its on demand content on American cable television company Comcast has surpassed 200 million views.

    It was launched in Comcast video-on-demand (Vod)-enabled markets in November 2004. The free Vod programming, which features hundreds of multi-genre music videos, concerts on demand and exclusive music shows, in-studio performances and interviews produced by Music Choice, averages over 20 million views a month.

    The content is available at no additional charge to Comcast Digital Cable customers and features videos like Ciara’s 1, 2 Step,which has generated close to four million views to date. Ciara also holds the number two spot with over 3.3 million views of her Oh video featuring Ludacris. Chris Brown’s Run It video has also surpassed the three million views milestone, with B5’s All I Do closing in on three million views.

    Comcast On Demand VP, GM Page Thompson says, “Music programming is an ideal fit for on-demand viewing, allowing fans to enjoy their favourite artists and songs any time they want, and we’re pleased with the response to Music Choice’s programming. These usage statistics have confirmed our position as the most popular Vod music service available nationwide and, as we continue to expand our distribution and enhance our music-related content, we look forward to continuing our lead in music-related Vod content.”

    Music Choice On-Demand offers viewers the ability to select from hundreds of music videos across multiple categories, including R&B and hip hop, rock, country, latin, and classics, to watch whenever and however often they like. The music video catalogue includes today’s hottest artists, established performers, and emerging musicians who are making their way to the top of the charts.

    Al-Jazeera International ropes in Stephen Cole

    MUMBAI: BBC’s well-known anchor Stephen Cole will be joining the Middle Eastern television company Al-Jazeera for its forthcoming English-language news and current affairs channel — Al-Jazeera International. Stephen Cole will anchor from the London broadcast centre.

    Cole was associated with BBC News 24 and BBC World as senior anchor. He also hosted the BBC’s Click Online programme, 6 O’Clock and Ten O’Clock bulletins. He was previously associated with Sky News, CNN, and ITN. Earlier this year, Al-Jazeera International had roped in television host, author and producer Sir David Frost and also CNN’s Riz Khan.

    Cole will be Al Jazeera International’s main male news anchor in their London news broadcast centre, one of the channel’s four regional broadcast centres – the others are in Doha, Kuala Lumpur, and Washington DC.

    Al Jazeera International’s London bureau chief, Sue Phillips said, “I am delighted that Stephen is joining the team here in London. He brings a wealth of international broadcasting experience and will help us to offer viewers around the world a fresh perspective on global news.”

    Stephen was recently elected to The British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) and will be hosting the Royal Television Society Technology Awards on December 8th. He has written and presented the Oscars Special Show for BBC World and BBC News 24 for the past five years.
