Sony Sports to telecast docuseries ‘Down Underdogs’ starting 14 January

Mumbai: Sony Sports Network has produced a special docuseries titled “Down Underdogs – India’s Greatest Comeback” that will premiere on 14 January and telecast daily until 17 January.

The docuseries will be telecast on Sony Six and Sony Ten 4 in English and Sony Ten 3 in Hindi. The broadcaster has partnered with Byju’s Classes, Skoda and Dafa News for the docuseries.

The launch of the four-part docuseries will be in Hindi and English followed by a Tamil and Telugu broadcast on a later date. The series captures team India’s historic Test series win against Australia at The Gabba in 2020-21.

“Down Underdogs – India’s Greatest Comeback” has been entirely produced in-house amidst some extremely challenging Covid-19 scenarios. Interviews with players and commentators located in England and Australia were conducted via local partnerships and remote production technology.

The series will showcase current players like Mohammed Siraj and Hanuma Vihari along with prominent personalities like Sunil Gavaskar, Michael Clarke, Jason Gillespie, Sanjay Manjrekar, Lisa Sthalekar, Nick Knight, and Isa Guha.

Apart from the world-class cricketing insights, a team of raconteurs like Rajdeep Sardesai, Harsha Bhogle, Ayaz Memon, Joy Bhattacharjya and Gaurav Kapur will help navigate through the incredible subplots and storylines in the series.

“We take immense pride to bring back to life one of the most historic memories of Indian Test cricket through Down Underdogs – India’s Greatest Comeback,” said Sony Pictures Networks India chief revenue officer, distribution and head – sports business Rajesh Kaul. “The series is an aide-mémoire to all Indian cricket fans who had an unflinching belief in the team despite all odds and more so as an exemplary story to inspire generations to come.”

“India’s win in Australia early last year will go down as one of the greatest wins in Indian cricket history,” said former Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar. “To pick themselves up after the dismissal with their lowest ever test score of 36 and then to beat a rampant home team is a tribute to the determination shown by the players and the leadership roles played by the captain Rahane, coach Ravi Shastri and his support group.

“India’s Greatest Comeback will invite viewers to revisit Team India’s amazing comeback leading to the series win,” said former Australian cricketer Michael Clarke. “India picked an attack that worked. Different bowlers – not everyone bowls the same, different tactics, different skills, different weapons, so the credit goes to India for their execution but also Australia might have taken for granted their success in the first test.”

Zee Cinema to telecast ‘Toofan’ on 31 October

Mumbai: Zee Cinema is set to telecast the world television premiere of “Toofaan” on 31 October at 12 p.m.

Based on the story idea by Farhan Akhtar and Anjum Rajabali’s screenplay, “Toofaan” is a story that revolves around an orphaned extortionist based out of Dongri. Things take a different turn when he meets Ananya who pushes him to follow his real passion – boxing, to which he dedicates his life.

“While working on Toofaan I realised how there are no shortcuts when you want to portray a character like Aziz and I feel that’s the beauty of it,” said Farhan Akhtar. And through this experience I also have come to believe that there are no shortcuts in life. Don’t forget to watch the World Television of Toofaan on Zee Cinema.”

Directed by Rakyesh Omprakash Mehra, the film is led by Farhan Akhtar, along with star-studded performances by Paresh Rawal, Mrunal Thakur, Darshan Kumaar, and Supriya Pathak.

“My inclination to work on Toofaan was piqued by my drive to work with a sought-after director like Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra,” said Mrunal Thakur. “On our first meeting, he was in the process of gauging my strengths for Ananya’s character, of which I wasn’t aware at the time. Her character is really positive, daring and bold – someone who constantly pushes Aziz to keep going. I’ve grown immensely through her and I am honoured to have been given the chance to put myself in her shoes.”

“While Toofaan is a work of fiction, it derives a great deal of inspiration from real life, real people and real struggles and conflicts that I have witnessed and heard about,” said Rakyesh Omprakash Mehra. “To make the viewing experience of the film authentic we have shot the film completely with real locations across Mumbai. You’ll see the actors in a real cramped up setting with no air-conditioning or make-up areas. It was a unique shooting experience.”

  • Telecast of Patanjali’s two ads stopped by high court

Telecast of Patanjali’s two ads stopped by high court

MUMBAI: It was a bit of a marketing blasphemy. And, Patanjali Ayurved’s advertisements have hit a legal hurdle.

Telecast of Patanjali’s two product ads which allegedly disparaged HUL and Dabur’s brands have been stopped by high courts in India.

The Delhi court ordered Patanjali to stop telecasting TV ads for its soaps. The decision came after Reckitt Benckiser complained it had allegedly disparaged Dettol brand.

After the Bombay High Court restrained the baba’s company from advertising its soap brand, which allegedly disparaged competitor Hindustan Unilever’s brands, the Delhi High Court passed an injunction against Patanjali’s chyawanprash commercial. Patanjali ad had made direct attacks on Lux and Pears: “Filmstars ke chemical bhare sabun na lagao.”

This advertisement was allegedly disparaging Dabur India’s chyawanprash brand. The division bench of Delhi HC has restrained the telecast and circulation of Patanjali’s said advertisement.

A Patanjali Ayurved spokesperson said that it would file its reply to the court after seeking the details of the order. Its communication strategy is simple — to convey to the consumers the benefits of using healthy and natural products as against other products which may be harmful.

Patanjali Ayurved is not alien to rows. The West Bengal Public Health Laboratory found a batch of the Patanjali Amla Juice ‘unfit’ for consumption. Outlook had reported that Nepal’s Drug Administration had asked Patanjali to recall six ‘substandard products.’

It remains to be seen if questionable advertising methods prove to be good publicity for the baba’s products in the long run.
