Tata Tea Gold paints Pujo golden with 10 art-led festive packs in Bengal

MUMBAI: If Bengal’s Durga Puja is a painting in motion, then Tata Tea Gold has just framed it in gold. This festive season, the brand has launched a dazzling campaign Banglar Shilpi Shojjito Pujo featuring 10 limited-edition tea packs designed by celebrated Bengali artists, each capturing a different ritual of the five-day celebration.

The packs are more than packaging, they are canvases. From the thunder of the dhaak on Shashti to the swirling smoke of the dhunuchi dance on Nabami and the sindoor-smeared joy of Dashami, every pack is a stroke of nostalgia. Artists like Goutam Sarkar (acrylic realism), Gopal Naskar (myth-meets-modern pastels), Gourab Kundu (fluid watercolours), Anjan Bhattacharya (rich oils), and Joyeeta Bose (digital magic) have each lent their craft, creating a collectible series that doubles as an ode to Bengal’s artistic soul.

The campaign extends beyond shelves. A special festive TVC opens with a steaming cup of Tata Tea Gold in a Bengali household before the vapour spirals into colours that paint vibrant pandals, neighbourhoods, and rituals across West Bengal. Every transition becomes art itself with the film ending on the evocative line: “Banglar Pujo Ek Sonar Chhobir Mawto” (Bengal’s Pujo is nothing short of a golden painting).

“Durga Puja is not just a festival; it is an emotion that binds Bengal,” said Tata Consumer Products president for packaged beverages India & South Asia Puneet Das. “This year, by collaborating with local artists, we’ve brought those emotions alive on every pack, making Pujo feel as personal as it is collective.”

The initiative builds on Tata Consumer Products’ vast consumer base of 275 million Indian households and its wide portfolio from Tata Tea and Tetley to Tata Salt, Sampann, Soulfull and Ching’s Secret. With a consolidated turnover of Rs. 17,618 crore, the company is betting on art and authenticity to deepen its festive connect.

This Durga Puja, tea breaks in Bengal may just feel like gallery visits, cups steeped not only in flavour but also in festival, memory, and art.

Commenting on the campaign, upGrad CEO – India Arjun Mohan said, “Job-Linked Digital Marketing Bootcamp is one of the biggest milestones, we, as a higher edtech leader, have introduced and therefore, it was critical for us to create maximum awareness touchpoints to let our target group and aspiring marketers take an informed career choice. As a result, we realised that freshers and working professionals who aspire to build a career as digital marketers do not have a direct entry point. They have to pursue multiple different job profiles before they actually land the desired job.”

“Young people change the face of any industry. Digital marketing is no different – in fact, it is one of the industries, most prone to be changed by new blood coming in. While earlier, young people usually stumbled into digital marketing, a structured and industry-relevant course like this upGrad Bootcamp, will give prospective marketers a great start to their career, thanks to the veteran faculty teaching it. This was the insight that led to the ad film,” added upGrad head of creative and content marketing – India Shreyas Shevade.

In line with upGrad’s commitment to LifeLongLearning, the program structure also includes 1:1 mentorship opportunity with industry experts, end-to-end support in resume building, interview etiquette, and mock interview sessions, enabling its learners with enhanced career development opportunities.

  • Amazon, Asian Paints & Tata Tea emerge as ‘Most Purposeful Brands’: Kantar report

Amazon, Asian Paints & Tata Tea emerge as ‘Most Purposeful Brands’: Kantar report

Mumbai: Data insights and consulting company Kantar has released the 2021 edition of its annual BrandZ India report that unveils the year’s ‘Most Purposeful Brands’ in India. Amazon, Asian Paints, and Tata Tea emerged as the most purposeful leaders in India across technology, non-FMCG, and FMCG categories respectively, according to the report.

The technology ranking has Amazon followed by Zomato, YouTube, Google, and Swiggy jointly in fourth place, followed by Flipkart. The non-FMCG ranking is dominated by telecom brands, with Samsung and Jio jointly second, followed by MRF, Tata Housing, and Airtel. The FMCG category ranks some of India’s biggest names: Tata Tea followed by Surf Excel, Taj Mahal, Parachute, and Maggi both in fourth position, and Britannia completing the list, as per the report.

According to Kantar BrandZ data, consumers believe that these brands lead with a clear sense of purpose to make their everyday lives better. It also exhibits those that have taken a bolder social stance, as Covid-19 magnified the need for brands to do more than focus on profits alone. The findings tie in with longer-term trends in India and abroad to value brands on ESG criteria (environmental, social and governance) alongside traditional factors, such as valuations and earnings growth.

While the fundamentals of brand-building remain the same as before namely – Meaningfulness, Difference and Salience, what has changed this time is the expectation that the brand will stand for something more. Kantar conducted an analysis of 418 brands across 30 categories from a total of over 12,000 respondents and found that in India especially, perceptions of a brand’s purpose, its ability to ‘make people’s lives better,’ is crucial to establishing a brand’s meaningful quotient and thus, boosting prospects for growth.

The Indian consumer, as per the report, is on par with many of their Asian counterparts in actively engaging with sustainability. 77 per cent are prepared to invest time and money in companies that try to do good, the report stated.

The 2021 Kantar BrandZ data for India, in conjunction with other Kantar consumer sentiment tracking, has also revealed several patterns in what Indian consumers deemed ‘Purposeful’ in 2021.

Some of the key highlights are that it is critical to amplify or communicate the brand purpose, even as tech brands showed how everyday convenience contributes to brand purpose. These brands have been able to scale up and showcase a wide range of products plus enter new categories at a time when consumers were desperate for at-home & delivery solutions.

For FMCG brands, taking a social stance by focusing on reducing their carbon footprint scored high, showing that purpose and profit can go hand-in-hand. The key is to do more than just meet consumers’ immediate needs, like non-FMCG brands that adopt marketing strategies that promote the brand in ways that look beyond the function of product or service.

“Brand Purpose provides an anchor amidst constant uncertainty, both as a North Star for brands, but also as reassurance to consumers. Purpose as a contributor to brand equity is 10 times more important in India, in comparison to globally. This shows that a larger societal purpose is even more critical to success for brands in India,” said Kantar executive managing director for South Asia Insights Division Deepender Rana.

“Of course, vague slogans and one-off ‘corporate charity’ events do not work, and it is not about jumping on the bandwagon of the latest fashionable cause either. Instead, real Purpose flows from and builds on, a brand’s existing core values and DNA. This reinforces the need to understand and measure if a brand’s Purpose is perceived as adding real meaning to consumers’ lives,” he added.

Speaking about Kantar BrandZ’s report in India, Kantar managing director- client and quantitative Insights Division Soumya Mohanty stated, “Purpose can work as a strategy for brands, when it’s based on the right consumer insights, and executed effectively. In India, Kantar BrandZ data suggest that a brand’s Purpose ranking has a direct impact on its Meaningfulness score – which in turn is one of the cores, proven building blocks of brand value growth.”

    Methodology

The Kantar BrandZ database was analysed from 2020-21 covering 418 brand cases for this project, with brand perception and brand equity metrics for brands across 30 categories from a total of over 12,000 respondents. The database includes 28 consistent attributes. A two-stage analysis process was used to arrive at the decision to centre Purpose in this year’s report.

To reinforce this social message just in time for Independence Day, PETA India has placed a billboard in all major cities like Delhi, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata, and Mumbai, encouraging people to get patriotic by adopting a lovable Indian dog from the streets or an animal shelter, rather than adding to the homeless-animal crisis by patronising breeders and pet shops that sell foreign pedigrees.

  • Tata Tea focuses on West Bengal in regional marketing blitz

Tata Tea focuses on West Bengal in regional marketing blitz

NEW DELHI: Tata Tea Gold has initiated a hyperlocal strategy to its marketing, shifting the needle from not just celebrating ‘India pride’ but to also evoking ‘regional pride’. The brand aims to usher in a new era of hyperlocal advertising and communication in the FMCG category and stay away from the clutter. So far, it has released campaigns for Odisha, Delhi, UP, and is extending to other states.

In its quest to celebrate regional pride, the brand has recently launched its latest film focusing on West Bengal.

The campaign is aimed at celebrating the ‘Bengali way of life’. When it comes to their love for food, the people of West Bengal take great pride in their rigorous selection, approach and an eye for detail. The new campaign is a celebration of this uniquely Bengali cultural code – khutkhute-ness – that is evident in everyday situations.

The film, conceptualised by Mullen Lintas and created by veteran Bengali filmmaker Shoojit Sircar, opens in a Kolkata street food stall where a young office going woman, who has just taken the first bite of jhalmuri, stops in between and asks the vendor to give crunchier ones. More such illustrations follow, whether it is for measuring the exacting thickness in a perfect plate of kosha mangsho or the softness and warmth of a roshogolla or the right firmness in a fish, all showcasing the Bengalis’ penchant for perfection in every little thing around food. It reaffirms that Bengalis will never settle for anything less than perfect.

The film then pans out to a woman asking for aromatic tea leaves. While evaluating some tea in her hand, she looks unsatisfied. She asks for tea that would lend the taste buds a relishing flavour. The shopkeeper hands over the shiny gold pack of Tata Tea Gold, assuring her of a flavourful tea.

Tata Consumer Products senior vice president marketing – packaged beverages Puneet Das said, “We wanted to celebrate the West Bengal way of life by bringing alive this core idea of ‘a perfectionist mindset’ of Bengalis, especially when it comes to their everyday food and beverage choices. This is very well expressed through this colloquial term of khutkhute-ness and we have tried to capture this through situations that will be relatable to most Bengalis.”

Mullen Lintas chief creative officer Garima Khandelwal added, “The journey of this commercial was about landing on an insight that holds completely unmistakably true for the region, just how many brands of Tata Tea portfolio are doing with region-specific insights that evoke extreme relatability and makes the tea one’s own. What followed was then sharpening it with creative juices and partnering with the right talent. While sarcasm has long been the brand tonality, this was the first time we attempted it, in this humorous avatar.

A few weeks ago the brand launched its film focusing on Odisha. It illustrates how the people of Odisha don’t indulge in unnecessary confrontation but shows them taking charge when it counts. The proposition of that campaign is ‘Kadak iraadon vale Odisha ke liye kadak Assam chai’.
