  • Pannu ‘Fruits Up’ changing perspective of youth

MUMBAI: India’s leading fruit juice player Manpasand Beverages has launched its latest TVC campaign for ‘Fruits Up’ featuring brand ambassador Tapsee Pannu. This is the first Ad of the brand with Tapsee after she was signed up as the brand ambassador for the product in December 2016. Fruits Up offers a range of carbonated fruit drinks in different flavours and is made without any synthetic base to cater to the changing preference of Indian palate.

‘Fruits Up’ is primarily targeted at the young urban consumers who are candid, sensible and conscious of their choices.

Keeping its target audience in mind, the campaign shows a confident and affirmative Tapsee Pannu walking with a tray full of ‘Fruits Up’ to greet and meet her prospective matrimonial match. The ad on the surface seems like slipping down the usual traditional way, but here’s the twist. Tapsee Pannu, dressed in a chic western outfit instead of an Indian ensemble, turns the table around as the groom’s parents hesitantly put forth their “modest” demands. She prevails by asking the groom side whether ‘they’ have the capacity to fulfill these demands, else the game is off! This new thinking and change in perspective is capped by the voice over “Badal raha hai India ka swad” (India [and it’s taste] is changing).

The ad not only depicts the change in perspective and preferences of the youth of today, but also breaks various stereotypes. First, it builds up on the strong persona of the characters played by Pannu in her recent films and depicts her as a self-assured young woman who knows her mind and is not going to be cowed down by age old societal charades. Secondly, it offers “Fruits Up” as a healthy fizzy alternative to existing synthetic based cola drinks. The message is further accentuated by the tag line, “Fruit Bhi Fizz Bhi.”

Manpasand Beverages believes that the youth today are much more aware and in touch with reality. Along with being outgoing and candid, they are responsible to and ready to look at their surrounding with a non-conventional lens. Hence, ‘Fruits Up’ is positioned as a youth oriented brand for people who are open to try innovative drinks without compromising on the health quotient.

Abhishek Singh, Director, Manpasand Beverages Ltd. said, “‘Fruits Up’ represents a variety of healthy carbonated fruit drink with goodness of fruit pulp in it. Our tag line, “Fruit with Fizz” is the apt description of the brand that aims to capture the health conscious and sensible youth of today. We wanted the campaign to resonate with the youth of today and also stress on the changing norms of the society. “

Singh said, “Through this TVC, our aim was to convey the essence/idea of the product rather than advertise the product itself. As our brand is positioned as a healthy alternative to synthetic cola drinks, we decided to use the matrimonial meet-up as the backdrop to showcase today’s strong-willed women who make their own choices and simultaneously highlight ‘Fruits Up’ as a flavorful fizzy drink.”

  • Sequels sans conviction, ploys abound

MUMBAI: Somehow, the makers of sequels, prequels kind of films seem be doing so without conviction and, mainly paying no heed to content. Unlike most others, Naam Shabana did all except naming the film Baby 2 or some such to promote and market the film. All possible connections were made to identify it with the earlier film, Baby, otherwise.

It is supposed to be a prequel telling the story of how Tapsee Pannu happened to become a spy!

Akshay Kumar, the force behind the production house of Naam Shabana, even made an unnecessary and forced appearance in the film. His presence in the film was poorly scripted and no efforts made to justify it. In fact, he ended up trivializing the character created for the film’s protagonist, Tapsee Pannu.

Akshay Kumar’s presence was probably fitted in to carry forward the brand equity of Baby and to also make viewers think they were not short changed.

Ploys don’t draw the audience which also happened with Naam Shabana as the opening response remained tepid. The film took its patron for granted with its content as well which limited its growth over the weekend.

*Having opened at about four crore on Friday, Naam Shabana collected approx. Rs 14 crore for its opening weekend. The going will be tough during rest of the week for the film.

*Phillauri remained below average with its best figures coming from North compared to other circuits but not good enough on the whole. The film collected Rs 20.6 crore in its first week as it went on dropping each day of the week.

*Anaarkali Of Aarah could not convert the appreciation it received from certain pockets into box office gains. The film fell short of one crore mark in its first week.

*Badrinath Ki Dulhania continued to make the most of poor oppositions as well as its status as the only entertainer available. The film added an impressive Rs 10.65 crore in its third week to take its three week tally to Rs 109.85 crore.

  • Urban Ladder aims to touch emotional chords with ad film

Urban Ladder aims to touch emotional chords with ad film

NEW DELHI: Furniture and home décor company Urban Ladder has made a unique film, which brings the essence of unified Indian families while publicising its own products.

The short film titled ‘The Homecoming’ captures the journey of a couple’s decision to move into their son’s home, when the son and his wife make them feel at home with thoughtful changes in the house. The film is conceptualised and filmed by Boring Brands.

The 7.16 minute long film opens with the son (Amit Sadh) talking to his mother (Pyumori Mehta) on the phone to plan their Diwali visit, and also insists that his parents should move in with his family. When the couple arrives, the father (Piyush Mishra) looks hesitant and uncomfortable in the son’s house since it’s very different from his home. The son and daughter-in-law (Tapsee Pannu) understand his discomfort and do a complete makeover of the room with thoughtful changes.

The couple is surprised by this effort and in this emotional moment make a decision to move in with their son and his family.

“At Urban Ladder, we strongly believe that a beautiful home is not just created with good looking furniture, but with a lot of thought that make spaces comfortable and cozy for everyday living. Our everyday routine revolves around those favourite spaces in our home which complete our day – tea on the swing, newspaper on a lounge chair or the bookshelf that stacks our everyday reads. In this film, we have tried to capture how small but thoughtful changes can make a house a home and bring people together,” said Urban Ladder VP – marketing Nikhil Ramaprakash.

Boring Brands co-founder and CEO Anshul Sushil said, “The festive season always sees an influx of TV commercials and content aiming to attract shoppers. The idea with this was to poignantly bring out the notion that family ties go beyond festivals. It is a celebration of human relationships and behaviour that audiences will instantly warm to. Urban Ladder as a brand resonates the sentiment that a home is built not by furniture and décor but by the family that lives in it and that is the driving message of this film.”

The film has been directed by Vinay Jaiswal of Kreative Wings Studio.

Mishra, who features in this film said, “The beauty of this film lies in its simplicity. It celebrates relationships set in the backdrop of Diwali festival and brings out the coming together of a family. For someone who has been in the industry for so long, it is heartening to see young brands create unique content and I feel lucky to have been a part of this effort by Urban Ladder.”
