    Times Internet develops mobile apps for Gaana.com

    MUMBAI: Time Internet (TIL) has developed mobile applications for its flagship online music portal, Gaana.com.

    Simultaneously, Gaana.com is now available as an app for Android, iOS, Blackberry and J2ME devices, giving consumers access to millions of songs on their mobile phone.

    TIL CEO Satyan Gajwani said “We are so proud of the Gaana experience on mobile. Indian consumers love their music, and we‘ve built a product that matches their expectations for excellence across every screen that matters to them. Gaana on mobile is feature-rich and intuitive to use, and we intend to use this as a base to build even more functionality and offerings for our users, across all platforms.”

    According to the company, Gaana‘s mobile apps have been built to provide a full-service music experience, creating more depth than any offering available today. Some of its features include: access to over 1 million songs, including Bollywood, Hollywood, Tamil, Telegu, and regional music, Social listening: see what one‘s friends are listening to and My zone: an ability to see history, favorite songs, playlists, albums and artists across computer or mobile phone.

    Vishwaroopam’s theatrical release postponed to 25 Jan

    MUMBAI: Tamil superstar Kamal Haasan‘s upcoming film ‘Vishwaroopam‘ will now release on 25 January instead of 11 January, the earlier decided date of release.

     

    The Rajkamal Films International‘s movie that was to release on DTH platforms on 10 January was called off by Haasan after the opposition from the theatre owners as it would have affected their business. It is now uncertain when the movie will air on DTH platforms.

     

    Haasan said in a press statement, “Based on the unstinted support of theatre owners and distributors fraternity, ‘Vishwaroopam‘ will release in over 500 screens across the State of Tamil Nadu. I appreciate the exhibitors and distributors brethren for having understood my vision for creating a new revenue stream for the film producing community through DTH.”

     

    “In line with the postponement of the release date of the movie ‘Vishwaroopam‘ (Tamil and Telugu)/‘Vishwaroop‘ (Hindi)‘ across theatres and on the DTH platform by Rajkamal Films, we have stopped taking bookings for the movie premiere that was scheduled for 10 January at 9.30 p.m. on Airtel DTH,” Bharti Airtel CEO-DTH/Media Shashi Arora said in a statement issued by the company.

     

    Haasan has acted, directed and produced the movie. In a press meet on Wednesday, he said that he is considering releasing the movie simultaneously in both theaters and DTH platforms.

     

    The other DTH operators with which Haasan had tied up for the movie premiere of ‘Vishwaroopam‘ included Tata Sky, Dish TV and Videocon d2h, Sun Direct and Reliance Digital TV.

    Endemol ropes in Sekhar Kammula for Kahaani remake in Tamil, Telugu

    MUMBAI: Endemol India acquired the remake rights of Sujoy Ghosh’s Kahaani in Tamil and Telugu about six months ago.

    Endemol India and Select Media Holdings Pvt. Ltd have roped in critically acclaimed filmmaker Sekhar Kammula to direct the remake of Kahaani in the two south Indian languages.

    Sekhar is widely known for his cinematic excellence that culminates into path breaking films. A rare combination of aesthetic values and commercial success, his films capture the essence of the subject beautifully. From his debut film Dollar Dreams to his latest movie Life is Beautiful, this maverick director has been a recipient of awards and accolades that range from the National Film Awards to the Nandi Awards.

    Said Sekhar, “Kahaani is a brilliant work of cinema and I am delighted to be a part of this recreation along with Endemol India and Moving Pictures. It is a character driven script and the characterization will have local appeal. Our adaptation will retain the thrill and essence of the original, but will also add a unique dimension to the film.”

    Producers of popular shows like Bigg Boss, Fear Factor, Savdhaan India and The Great Indian Laughter Challenge, Endemol India has tied up with Moving Pictures – the film production arm of Select Media Holdings Pvt. Ltd. to take things forward.

    Elaborating further, Deepak Dhar, CEO – Endemol India said, "We feel that Kahaani is a great film to commence our film operations in the South. We are confident that Sekhar will deliver to our audiences’ expectations. He is popularly known for his coming-of-age brand of cinema and we are certain that this movie will add yet another feather to his hat.”

    Currently both the production houses are in talks with a couple of renowned actors from South to essay the powerful characters in the film.

    MUMBAI: UTV will distribute No Entry Pudhe Dhoka Ahe on 7 September.

    The film is a Marathi remake of Boney Kapoor’s comic caper ad is made under the banner of Underground Films.

    The film stars Bharat Jadhav (playing Anil Kapoor’s role), Aniket Vishwas Rao (playing Fardeen Khan’s role), Pandrinath Kamble (playing Paresh Ganatra’s role), Saie Tamhankar (playing Bipasha Basu’s role), Kranti Redkar (playing Lara Dutta’s role), Manava Naik (playing Celina Jaitley’s role) and Sai Lokur (playing Esha Deol’s role). Director Ankush Chaudhari essays the role of Salman Khan.

    The extravagant big budgeted film was shot at exotic and rich locations in Goa and Mumbai.

    No Entry Pudhe Dhoka Ahe, a family entertainer, attempts to lure the Marathi film audience back to the cinemas.

    Incidentally, the film was a super hit in Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam.

    Jism 2, the film which hit theatres in India on 3 August, is positioned as the film to have boldly broken through India‘s stodgy old Victorian morals. Directed by Pooja Bhatt, the espionage thriller involves assassination, sex, intrigue and the surprise element of double jeopardy. The film, that stars Randeep Hooda, Arunoday Singh, marks the debut of Sunny Leone in Bollywood.

    MUMBAI: Jism 2 director Pooja is considering dubbing the film in Tamil and Telugu language to tap into the large non-Hindi audience in South.

    The film, which was recently passed with an A-certificate by the Central Board of Film Certification, will release in Telugu in Andhra Pradesh in 200 theatres.

    Jism 2 is slated for release on August 3.

    The film, starring porn star Sunny Leone, also has Ranadeep Hooda and Arunoday Singh playing pivotal roles.

    “It‘s an adult film for adult sensibilities. The adult audience is a sizeable number and it is big enough for my film,” stated Pooja Bhatt in a statement.

    MUMBAI: Fox Star Studios, which has been co-promoting brands and its films, has now associated with seven big brands for the fourth installment of the Ice Age series, Ice Age 4: Continental Drift.

    The seven brands which have tied up with the animation film are MTR Milk Drinks, McDonalds, Crax Corn Rings, Perfetti Alpenliebe, Swirl and LG Electronics 3D TV.

    It may be recollected that the studio has had mutually beneficial associations with noted brands for their recent blockbusters such as Titanic 3D, X Men First Class, Avatar etc.

    Ice age 4: Continental Drift is releasing in 3D in English, Hindi, Tamil, Telegu on 27 July.

    MUMBAI: Dubai will play host to the first-ever South Indian International Movie Award (SIIMA) on 21 and 22 June. The award function will reward the best works in Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam and Kannada cinema.

    SIIMA will be an annual affair and will take South Indian movies to new territories on the lines of the IIFA.

    SIIMA will reward greatest achievements in cinema during the year 2011 which will be nominated by a jury of artists and professionals from all the four industries.

    Vishnuvardhan Induri, the man behind the successful Celebrity Cricket League, has conceptualised the awards function. According to a statement by the organisers, this will be the first time that the South Indian film industry will have its awards abroad. With the function, the organisers will promote South Indian cinema on a global platform that would increase overseas revenues.

    Though the industry down south constitutes the largest number of films released in India and the Indian box office collections of a hit South Indian movie is at par with any hit Bollywood film, the overseas revenue of a South Indian movie is 10 per cent of a Bollywood movie, the statement observed.

    The organisers have sent out invitations to all the big stars across India with a hope to get participation not just from those who have been nominated and those who are performing but from the film fraternity at large.

    MUMBAI: Sasikanth Sivaji, the maker of Kadhalil Sodhappuvadhu Eppadi (Love Failure), has evinced interest in remaking John Abraham’s Vicky Donor in Tamil and Telugu.

    “We watched the film on the day of its release and since the content was something new, which is what we have always wanted to present to our audience, we got in touch with the Bollywood studio. We have asked for the Tamil-Telugu remake rights as we intend to do the movie as a bilingual,” Sivaji said.

    Sivaji has also hinted that that he wishes to cast Siddharth in the role originally played by Ayushmann Khurana.

    Reportedly, during the negotiation for the remake rights of Vicky Donor, the producers have expressed their willingness to get the Love Failure‘s Hindi remake rights in return. But Sissharth has stated that if the remake had to be made ever, it would be made only by the original producers YNot Films and Etaki.

    The Avengers collects Rs 246.7 mn in first week

    MUMBAI: Having collected Rs 140 million in its opening weekend, Marvel Studio’s The Avengers grew through the week to net Rs 246.7million from its first week run, according to figures provided by UTV Motion Pictures.

    UTV Motion Pictures, part of Walt Disney, is distributing the film in India.

    With this, The Avengers has had an all-time third biggest opening for any Hollywood film in India and is the biggest Disney-Marvel movie in India ever.

    Incidentally, the film released in approximately 800 screens in English and was dubbed in Hindi, Telugu and Tamil.
