    TAM AdEx: TV ads for consumer durables surge, print drops by six per cent in H1 2024

    Mumbai: TAM AdEx’s latest report for Jan-Jun 2024 reveals significant growth in TV ad volumes for the consumer durables/home appliances category, showing a 2.9 times increase compared to the same period in 2022, and 11 per cent higher than H1 2023. In contrast, print ad space for the category continued its downward trend, falling by six per cent compared to the first half of 2023.

    Godrej & Boyce Mfg Co led the category on TV, holding a 33 per cent share of ad volumes, while Usha International and Voltas joined as exclusive top advertisers in 2024. Print advertising saw TTK Prestige India and Stovekraft maintain their top spots with 41 per cent and 21 per cent share of ad space, respectively. The South Zone dominated print ads, accounting for 33 per cent of ad space, closely followed by the North Zone.

    On Radio, ad volumes dropped 52 per cent in 2024 compared to 2023, but Samsung India Electronics led with 28 per cent of ad volumes. Digital ad impressions grew by five per cent in H1 2024, with Samsung again topping the list at 25 per cent share of impressions. Programmatic advertising accounted for 81 per cent of digital impressions.

    The report highlights that the consumer durables/home appliances category continues to prioritise TV advertising, with prime time being the preferred slot. The news and GEC (general entertainment channels) genres captured 65 per cent of ad volumes.

    In the print sector, Hindi and English publications together contributed over 64 per cent of the ad space. The preference for promotional offers remains strong, comprising 81 per cent of total print ads, with multiple promotions being the most utilised form.

    Mumbai: According to the latest TAM AdEx India report for the period Jan-Jun’24, digital ad impressions witnessed a significant eight per cent rise compared to the same period in 2022. The growth was fueled by increased advertising activity across various sectors, with the services sector leading the charge, contributing 51 per cent of the total ad impressions.

    Ecom-Other Services took the top spot among categories, claiming seven per cent of total impressions during the period. Notably, programmatic advertising emerged as the dominant transaction method, accounting for a whopping 88 per cent share of total impressions.

    Facebook led the list of web publishers with 34 per cent of the ad impressions, while YouTube dominated the app category with 38 per cent. Display ads ruled digital advertising, representing 78 per cent of total ad impressions in the first half of 2024.

    Among advertisers, Grammarly Inc topped the exclusive advertisers’ list on digital platforms, while brands like Amazon Online India and Hindustan Unilever were common across both TV and digital mediums. New entrants to the top categories included cellular phones, smart phones, and the auto sector, which saw a 47 per cent rise in impressions.

    With over 98,600 exclusive digital advertisers and 1,850 common advertisers between TV and digital, the first half of 2024 shows the growing prominence of digital platforms in India’s advertising landscape.

    Mumbai: According to the latest report from TAM AdEx India for the period Jan-Jun’24, print ad space saw a five per cent growth compared to the same period in 2023.

    The education sector was the biggest contributor, accounting for 19 per cent of the total ad space, followed by services with 15 per cent and the auto sector with 13 per cent. Together, the top three sectors captured over 47 per cent of total ad space. Notably, the telecom products sector made its entry into the top 10 sectors in print advertising.

    Cars led the way in terms of ad space growth, with a 25 per cent increase compared to last year. The cellular phones/smartphones category saw the highest growth rate, expanding by 2.9 times. Other growing categories included two-wheelers (plus 29 per cent) and multiple courses (plus 21 per cent).

    Among advertisers, Maruti Suzuki India maintained its leadership position, followed by SBS Biotech and Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India. A significant rise was noted for Samsung India Electronics, which moved from 30th place in 2023 to sixth place in 2024. Eight of the top 10 advertisers from last year remained in the top rankings for 2024, with newcomers Samsung and Kent RO System making the list.

    In terms of brands, Honda Shine 100 topped the print ad charts, followed by Aakash Medical/IIT-JEE/Foundation and Allen Career Institute. The top 10 brands together contributed six per cent of the total print ad space, with a strong representation from the auto and education sectors.

    On the language front, Hindi and English publications together accounted for more than 60 per cent of total ad space in both 2023 and 2024. Hindi publications took the largest share at 38 per cent, followed by English at 26 per cent.

    Lastly, sales promotion ads made up 28 per cent of the total print ad space, with discount promotions leading the way at 44 per cent, followed by multiple promotions at 41 per cent.

    TAM AdEx: Service sector drives 31 per cent of radio ad volumes in Jan-Jun’24

    Mumbai: TAM AdEx India has released its half-yearly report on radio advertising for Jan-Jun’24, which showed a three per cent rise in ad volumes compared to the same period in 2023.

    The services sector remained the top contributor with thirty-one per cent of total ad volumes. The auto sector climbed to second place with ten per cent, followed by banking/finance/investment at eight per cent. Together, the top three sectors accounted for nearly fifty per cent of the total ad volumes. The top ten sectors remained consistent from 2023, with minor rank shifts.

    In the top ten categories, ‘properties/real estates’ and ‘hospital/clinics’ retained first and second positions, contributing sixteen per cent and seven per cent of ad volumes, respectively. ‘Cars’ moved up to third position, recording a fifty-seven per cent growth in ad volumes. ‘Retail outlets-jewellers’ grew by twenty-nine per cent, while ‘multiple courses’ and ‘schools’ entered the top ten categories.

    LIC of India held the top spot among advertisers, followed by Maruti Suzuki India. The top ten advertisers accounted for twelve per cent of the ad volumes, with LIC Housing Finance being the leading brand, followed by Alishan and LIC Jeevan Utsav. Notably, three brands in the top ten were from the banking/finance/investment sector, and two were from the auto sector.

    Gujarat led the states with a twenty per cent share, followed closely by Maharashtra at nineteen per cent. Among cities, Jaipur topped the list, contributing nine per cent of ad volumes, with Nagpur and New Delhi following.

    Evening time (5 pm to 9:59 pm) was the most preferred time band for advertising, contributing thirty-eight per cent of ad volumes, followed by the morning and afternoon slots. Ads of twenty to forty seconds in duration were the most popular, contributing sixty-seven per cent of total ad volumes. Shorter ads (under twenty seconds) saw an increase in share compared to the previous year.

    Mumbai: TAM AdEx India has released a television advertising half-yearly report for Jan-Jun’24.

    Jan-Jun’24 saw a minor three per cent drop in ad volumes on television over Jan-Jun’23.

    In Jan-Jun’24, ‘food & beverage’ (24 per cent) was on top followed by ‘personal care/personal hygiene’ sector with 16 per cent share. ‘BFSI’ is the only newly entered sector in the top 10 list during Jan-Jun’24. The top 10 sectors contribute nearly 90 per cent of the ad volume share in Jan-Jun’24.

    The top 10 categories together added 32 per cent share of ad volumes in Jan-Jun’24. In the period from Jan-Jun’24, the categories ranked third, seventh, eighth, and ninth showed a positive shift in rank compared to the same period in 2023. ‘Rubs and balms’ was the new entrant among the top 10 categories during Jan-Jun’24. Categories on rank three, seven and ten were from the ‘food & beverages’ sector.

    The ‘milk beverages’ category saw the highest increase in ad secondages with growth of 24 per cent followed by ‘rubs and balms’ with 40 per cent growth during Jan-Jun’24 compared to Jan-Jun’23.

    ‘HUL’ topped the list followed by ‘Reckitt’ during Jan-Jun’24. The top 10 advertisers together added 45 per cent share of ad volumes during Jan-Jun’24. ‘Reliance Jio Infocomm’ observed a positive rank shift along with ITC and Wipro.

    The top 10 brands contributed 10 per cent share of television ad volumes. During Jan-Jun’24, total 7.8K plus brands were present on television.

    Five out of the top 10 brands were from ‘Reckitt Benckiser’ and two were from ‘HUL’.

    During Jan-Jun’24, ‘GEC’ outperformed ‘news’ channels as the leading genre for advertising, similar to the same period in 2023. The top five channel genres accounted for more than 90 per cent share of ad volumes during both Jan-Jun’24 and Jan-Jun’23.

    Mumbai: TAM AdEx India has released a radio advertising quarterly report for Jan-Mar’24. TAM AdEx monitors more than 110 radio stations (In association with RCS India).

    On radio, ad volumes/station witnessed the growth of seven per cent during Jan-Mar’24 compared to Jan-Mar’22. But, ad volumes/station of Jan-Mar’23 remained unchanged compared to Jan-Mar’22.

    Compared to Jan-Mar’23, services, banking/finance/investment and auto continued to dominate the top three positions in Jan-Mar’24. Household products entered the top 10 sectors during Jan-Mar’24 over Jan-Mar’23. Together, the top 10 sectors had a combined share of 88 per cent.

    Top 10 advertisers contributed to 14 per cent share of ad volumes on radio. More than 4K advertisers were present on radio during Jan-Mar’24 among which Life Insurance Corporation of India was leading the list. Additionally, LIC of India, LIC Housing Finance and Maruti Suzuki India continued to be the top three advertisers during Jan-Mar’24 over Jan-Mar’23. Out of the top 10 advertisers, six of them were new entrants during Jan-Mar’24 over Jan-Mar’23.

    The top 10 brands contributed nine per cent share of radio ad volumes. LIC Housing Finance was the top brand for advertising on radio during Jan-Mar’24. Among the top 10 brands present in Jan-Mar’24, three of them were new brands and five of them were new entrants compared to Jan-Mar’23.

    Properties/real estate was the top growing category in terms of increase in ad secondages followed by cars in Jan-Mar’24 compared to Jan-Mar’23.

    2.5k plus advertisers & 3.3k plus brands were exclusively present in Jan-Mar’24. Astral and LIC Jeevan Utsav were the top exclusive advertisers and brand on radio during Jan-Mar’24 over Jan-Mar’23.

    During Jan-Mar’24, Gujarat was the leading state with 19 per cent share of ad volumes, closely followed by Maharashtra with 18 per cent share. The top five states accounted for 65 per cent of total ad volumes. In cities, Jaipur secured the top position with a nine per cent share of ad volumes in Jan-Mar’24. Also, the top 10 cities added 68 per cent share of ad volumes.

    Evening was the most preferred time band on the radio followed by morning and afternoon time bands. Evening & morning time bands together added 69 per cent share of ad volumes.

    Ad commercials with 20-40 secs was most preferred for advertising on radio during Jan-Mar’24 & Jan-Mar’23.

    Mumbai: TAM AdEx India has released a print advertising quarterly report for Jan-Mar’24.

    In print, ad space per publication witnessed growth of seven per cent and 17 per cent during Jan-Mar’23 and Jan-Mar’24 respectively, compared to Jan-Mar’22. Also, compared to Jan-Mar’23, ad space per publication observed growth of 10 per cent in Jan-Mar’24.

    The top five sectors retained their respective positions in print advertising during Jan-Mar’24 over Jan-Mar’23. The top ten sectors collectively added 82 per cent share of ad space. Compared to Jan-Mar’23, telecom products was the only new entrant among the top sectors in Jan-Mar’24.

    Among the top 10 categories present in Jan-Mar’24, three belonged to the education sector. The top 10 categories together covered 40 per cent share of ad space. During Jan-Mar’24, multiple courses and cellular phones smartphones entered the top 10 categories and secured ninth and tenth positions compared to their 11th and 21st positions respectively in Jan-Mar’23.

    Top 10 advertisers contributed 16 per cent share of ad space in print. On print, SBS Biotech ascended to first position during Jan-Mar’24 compared to Jan-Mar’23. Whereas, Maruti Suzuki India descended to fourth position in Jan-Mar’24, compared to its first position in Jan-Mar’23. In print advertising, more than 57K advertisers were present during Jan-Mar’24.

    Top 10 brands contributed seven per cent share of print ad space. Among the top 10 brands present, six of them were new entrants during Jan-Mar’24 over Jan-Mar’23. Honda Shine 100 was the leading brand for print advertising in Jan-Mar’24. Fiitjee shifted down to eighth position in Jan-Mar’24, compared to its first position in Jan-Mar’23.

    Cellular phones – smart phones witnessed the highest growth of three times in terms of both ad space difference and growth per cent, followed by cars with 17 per cent growth in Jan-Mar’24 over Jan-Mar’23.

    33 K plus advertisers & 43 K plus brands exclusively promoted during Jan-Mar’24 in print compared to Jan-Mar’23. Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra and Honda Shine 100 were the top exclusive advertiser and brand respectively in Jan-Mar’24.

    Sales promotion advertising covered 29 per cent share of ad space in print during Jan-Mar’24. Among sales promotions, discount promotion obtained first position with 44 per cent share of ad space followed by multiple promotion. The top two promotions covered more than 85 per cent share of ad space during Jan-Mar’24.

    Mumbai: TAM Sports has released an IPL report based on the first 71 matches of IPL 17 and for all the channels on which matches are telecasted.

    On television, advertising for IPL 17 observed growth of 19 per cent in ad volumes/per channel compared to IPL 16.

    Compared to IPL 16, the count of categories and advertisers in IPL 17 were increased by 40 per cent and 28 per cent respectively.

    In IPL 17, the top five categories collectively added 44 per cent share of ad volumes, in which Pan Masala dominated the list. Ecom-gaming and pan masala were the only common categories between IPL 17 & IPL 16. Parle Products was the top advertiser in IPL 17 with 11 per cent share of ad volumes. Also, Sporta Technologies, K P Pan Foods and Vishnu Packaging were the common advertisers between IPL 17 and IPL 16. The top five advertisers of IPL 17 together added 34 per cent share of ad volumes. Parle Products was the leading advertiser in 48 matches of IPL 17.

    Compared to IPL 16, there were 34 new categories and 117 new brands present in IPL 17. Among the top five new categories, two of them were from the F&B sector and two belonged to the BFSI sector. Parle Food Products dominated the top five new brands list, followed by Fogg in 71 matches of IPL 17.

    During IPL 17, Dabur Real Range was the top brand on Hindi plus English language channels. Additionally, Mobil Super/Mobil Super Moto dominated the top brands list on regional language channels. Among the 110 brands that advertised on both Hindi plus English and regional language channels, Parle Food Products secured first position.

    Mumbai: TAM Sports has released an IPL report based on the first 15 matches of IPL 17 and for all the channels on which matches are telecasted.

    Television advertising for IPL 17 observed growth in ad volumes/per channel of one per cent compared to IPL 16.

    During IPL 17, the count of categories and advertisers increased by 63 per cent and 26 per cent compared to IPL 16.

    The top five categories present in IPL 17 together covered 52 per cent share of ad volumes with Ecom-gaming leading the list. Also, throughout all the 15 matches of IPL 17, Ecom-Gaming dominated the category list. Ecom-gaming and pan masala were the common categories between IPL 17 and IPL 16. Among the top five categories in IPL 17, two of them were from food & beverages sector. In advertisers, Sporta Technologies secured first position from Match one to seven and Parle Products was the leading advertiser from Match eight to eleven during IPL 17. Together, the top advertisers added 37 per cent share of ad volumes in IPL 17. Sporta Technologies, Vishnu Packaging and K P Pan Foods were the common advertisers present between IPL 17 & IPL 16.

    In the 15 matches of IPL 17, there were 36 new categories and 73 new brands present compared to the same no. of matches in IPL 16. Parle Food Products and Airtel Xstream Fiber secured first and second positions among the 73 new brands present in IPL 17.

    Mumbai: TAM Sports has released an IPL report based on the first seven matches of IPL 17 and for all the channels on which matches are telecasted.

    IPL 17 ad volumes surge by four per cent over the previous season’s seven match span.

    The count of categories in IPL 17 increased significantly by 65 per cent compared to IPL 16. Also, the count of advertisers increased by 28 per cent during IPL 17 over IPL 16.

    In categories, Ecom-Gaming, maintained its top position throughout all the seven matches of IPL 17. The top five categories in IPL 17 together had 52 per cent share of ad volumes. Ecom-Gaming & Pan Masala were the only common categories in IPL 17 and IPL 16. Out of the total five categories, two of them belonged to F&B sector in IPL 17. The top five advertisers of IPL 17 contributed 34 per cent share of ad volumes with Sporta Technologies leading the list. Sporta Technologies, Vishnu Packaging and Bharti Airtel were the common advertisers between IPL 17 & IPL 16. Among the top five advertisers in IPL 17, Sporta Technologies retained its 1st position during all the seven matches.

    30 new categories and 55 new brands advertised in seven matches of IPL 7 compared to the same number of matches in IPL 16. Among the 55 new brands, ‘Parle Food Products’ was the leading brand followed by ‘Airtel Xstream Fiber’.
