    MUMBAI: When Delhi’s iconic Loya says “cheers” it does so with stories. Its much-loved bar takeover series, Qissa, is back. This time shaking things up with a spirited cross-continental collaboration.

    Flying in from Tijuana, Mexico, the celebrated Aruba day drink bar, ranked No. 22 in North America’s 50 best bars 2025, is stepping behind Loya’s counter. At the helm is Frida González, Aruba’s co-owner and one of the brightest forces in Baja California’s cocktail culture.

    González is known for crafting ingredient-forward drinks that are as vibrant as they are honest, championing a style that feels playful yet deeply rooted in Mexico’s northwest coast. Under her watch, the takeover promises a sun-drenched menu echoing Aruba’s signature ‘daytime conviviality’: fresh, bold, and layered with Baja narratives.

    Think zesty pours brimming with Mexican flavours, inventive techniques, and a dash of storytelling, all served against Loya’s backdrop of north Indian artistry and flavour. 

    After its showcase at Loya, Taj Palace, New Delhi,  this edition of Qissa won’t stop there. The collaboration will pack its shakers and journey to Mumbai’s The Taj Mahal Palace, and Bengaluru’s Taj West End carrying a dialogue of craft and culture across three cities.

    Taronish Karkaria to lead iconic Taj West End, Bengaluru as GM

    MUMBAI: Taj West End, Bengaluru has appointed Taronish Karkaria as its new general manager. A second-generation hotelier, Karkaria has spent more than 20 years with Indian Hotels Company Ltd (IHCL), shaping operations at some of the group’s most celebrated properties.

    He was most recently the pre-opening general manager of Taj Gandhinagar Resort & Spa, and earlier served as director of operations at  Taj Palace, New Delhi, the capital’s largest luxury convention hotel. His career has also spanned senior roles at The Taj Mahal Palace, Mumbai, and Taj Lands End, Mumbai.

    IHCL, senior vice president–operations, Satyajeet Krishnan said Karkaria’s experience would “play a key role in further strengthening the hotel’s position as one of the city’s most distinguished luxury destinations.”

    Calling Taj West End “a true icon of Bengaluru’s hospitality landscape,” Karkaria said he aimed to build on its legacy by blending warmth and innovation to craft meaningful guest experiences.

    In his new role, he will oversee operations, sharpen revenue strategy and strengthen the property’s reputation as one of Bengaluru’s most storied hotels.

    MUMBAI: In a game of inches and intense competition, Nasreen Shaikh has secured the ultimate victory not just on the field, but off it as well. The former captain of the Indian women’s kho-kho team and Arjuna Awardee has clinched the coveted BBC Indian Sportswoman of the Year – Changemaker Award. The award, which took centre stage at the Taj Palace, New Delhi on 17 February 2025, recognises her monumental role in elevating kho kho both nationally and internationally.

    This recognition follows the resounding success of the first-ever Kho Kho World Cup, held in Delhi, where India dominated by winning both the men’s and women’s World Cups. Shaikh’s rise mirrors the sport’s own trajectory, transforming kho kho from a regional pastime to a global contender.

    Shaikh’s reaction? “Kho Kho is more than a sport; it’s a passion that has shaped my life,” she said, reflecting on the award. “This honour acknowledges not just my journey but the efforts of every athlete striving to make a mark in Indian sports. I am grateful for this recognition and eager to take Kho Kho to even bigger stages.”

    International Kho Kho Federation (IKKF) and the Kho Kho Federation of India (KKFI) president Sudhanshu Mittal presented the award, praising Shaikh’s contributions. He remarked, “Her dedication has not only brought glory to Indian sports but has also brought Kho Kho into the spotlight. Nasreen is an inspiration, and we are confident she will continue to lead the sport to new heights.”

    This prestigious recognition places kho kho in the spotlight, revealing its growing global appeal and the potential it holds as an exciting, high-intensity sport. As Shaikh continues to make waves, it’s clear that kho kho’s future is looking more competitive and commercially viable than ever.

    9th edition of Car & Bike Awards acknowledges exceptional talent

    MUMBAI: It was time once again for the stalwarts of the Indian automobile industry to take centre stage at the much awaited NDTV Car and Bike Awards 2014. Presented by Mobil1, the ninth edition saw a gathering of the auto industry, car and bike aficionados and enthusiasts across the sector as the NDTV Car & Bike Awards felicitated the best among the best, showcased in NDTV’s highly acclaimed ‘The Car and Bike Show’. These Awards are the automobile industry’s most credible awards, presented annually by NDTV.

    In a grand ceremony held at The Taj Palace Hotel, Delhi, hosted by Siddharth Vinayak Patankar and Sarah Jacob, Hyundai Grand i10 took the Car of the Year Award 2014, while KTM Duke 390 was awarded the Two Wheeler of the Year 2014. The ‘CNB Visioneer Award’ was given to Mr. Brijmohan Lall for his outstanding contribution to the Indian automobile industry.

    The CNB Viewers’ Choice Awards for both Cars and Bikes provided NDTV viewers the exciting opportunity to vote for their favourite car and two wheeler nominees and stand a chance to take the year’s hottest wheels home. Ford EcoSport and TVS Jupiter were announced as the Viewers’ Choice car and Two Wheeler respectively.

     

    Sachin Tendulkar was awarded (the Brand Ambassador of the Year for BMW while Mahindra Racing & Gaurav Gill was awarded the Mobil1 Motorsport Award. The evening was a celebration of the best design, unmatched technology, style and performances in the automobile industry and honoured the best vehicles and campaigns that dominated the market in 2013.

    To ensure a full proof and fair selection process, each Jury member assesses and awards each nominee in complete isolation to other jurors. Each car and bike nominated is driven, evaluated and tested by the Jury along with a detailed research on each nominee’s specifications; its market performance and its immediate competition also being provided to them. Tabulators at Ernst and Young monitored the entire process.
