  • T. S. Panesar to lead DSport business in India

    MUMBAI: Former CEO of Hathway video business T.S. Panesar has been named head of the DSport channel business in India. 

    Panesar had quit Hathway following the move where Hathaway Cable and Datacom chose to opt out of its cable TV business to a wholly-owned subsidiary retaining the broadband operations in the parent company. 

    The reformist Panesar, having a multifaceted 20 years of experience in the broadcasting sector, decided to call it off after spending two and half years in the cable TV distribution entity. The executive, who had moved in from Star India, played a pivotal role in reforming the TV and cable operations unveiling a battery of value-added services (VAS).

    Rajan Gupta (MD – Hathway Cable & Datacom Limited, Chairman & Non-Executive Director -GTPL Hathway Limited) was recently appointed president of the All India Digital Cable Federation (AIDCF), the apex body of digital cable television players. This change was made as   Panesar (CEO Video Business – Hathway Digital Pvt. Ltd) the erstwhile President, has resigned from his post at Hathway.

  • Rajan Gupta replaces T S Panesar as new AIDCF President

    NEW DELHI: Hathway Cable & Datacom Limited MD and chairman & non-ED of GTPL Hathway Limited Rajan Gupta has been appointed president of the All India Digital Cable Federation (AIDCF), the apex body of digital cable television companies..

    This change has been made as Hathway Digital Pvt. Ltd CEO video business TS Panesar, the former AIDCF president, resigned from his post at Hathway some time back.

    While giving his exit statement, Panesar said, “I am resigning from the board and president’s role at AIDCF as I have put in my papers at Hathway. During my short stint at AIDCF, the federation has added new members, all of whom are regional leaders in their respective markets. Their presence will certainly help the federation in raising regional issues. I also hope that TRAI’s new regulations will become a reality soon.”

    Gupta, in a statement, said, “I am delighted to accept the president’s role at AIDCF. Digitalization journey for cable TV is almost over and focus will now shift to monetizing STBs seeded in the last few years. The Next phase of growth in the cable TV industry will come through convergence and innovative value-added services. I look forward to collaborating with all national and regional MSOs for maximizing industry revenue and profitability.”

    AIDCF secretary-general Saharsh Damani said, “With digitization almost over, I am certain that under Mr Gupta’s leadership AIDCF members will chalk-out a robust path in giving dual and triple play services to the end consumers.”

    Gupta, an engineering graduate and an MBA from IIM Bangalore, has 20 years of diverse experience across various aspects of management, sales, marketing, P&L management, revenue growth management, go-to-market strategy, business turn around and manufacturing operations across different regions of India.

    Prior to joining Hathway, he has held various leadership positions with Tata Teleservices, Hindustan Coca Cola and Asian Paints.

  • Hathway launches ad-free value-added service

    MUMBAI: Hathway Cable and Datacom have announced the launch of a new segment– Hathway Special under its cable business. The service is currently available to only DTH subscribers. For all the Hathway subscribers, the ad-free service will be offered for a free preview starting from 9 February for 30 days.

    Hathway Special will cater to customers looking for additional services over and above broadcaster channels and will be priced between Rs. 15 to Rs. 60 per service on a monthly basis.

    “At Hathway, we take pride in being the first MSO in the country to launch exclusive and diverse Value Added Services for all our subscribers.With the addition of the new service – Hathway Special, it is our endeavour to provide services best in the industry, be it in the form of experience, quality or pricing. We are empowering our LCOs to further enhance their business in terms of earnings and efficiency with this new Value Added Service. We are sure that Hathway Special will add significant earnings to the LCO just as the Hathway Connect Portal helped in ease of business and improved efficiency for all,” said Hathway Cable and Datacom chief executive officer video business T. S. Panesar.

    The subscribers will now have a choice of viewing value added services across nine different genres including the best of blockbusters, and music videos. Additionally, devotional content and animated content for children is also available on Hathway Special. The company aims to provide at least 30 offerings under Hathway Special catering to more varied genres while expanding its reach and viewership in the months ahead.

    The MSO is also focused on making available non-linear content of the likes of Video-on-Demand (VOD) and other localised content respective to its market.

    The new services under the Hathway Special range include:

    o MiniPlex: Blockbuster Bollywood movie premiers

    o Comedy Wala: Classic comedy show to New series; Original clips to comedy tweaked Bollywood clips

    o Lamhe Movie: Timeless classics and heart-warming stories from the bygone era

    o Yippee: Fun Learning and engagement for kids including animated nursery rhymes, moral stories, etc.

    MUMBAI/NEW DELHI: Hathway Cable & Datacom’s Video Business CEO T S Panesar has taken over as the new president of the All-India Digital Cable Federation (AIDCF), the apex body of digital cable television players.

    Panesar was unanimously elected at AIDCF’s 11th governing council meeting held in New Delhi. He succeeds SITI Networks ED and CEO V D Wadhwa who completed his two-year term as the founder-president of the Federation.

    Panesar has over 20 years of experience in media and entertainment industry, both on the broadcasting and distribution side.
    The governing council also appointed SITI Networks COO Anil Malhotra as he vice-president and Fastway Transmissions Private Ltd CEO Peeush Mahajan as the treasurer of the Federation.

    AIDCF placed on record its appreciation for the immense contribution made by Wadhwa as the founder and first president of the Federation over two years ago. Under his aegis, the federation earned its stripes with MIB, TRAI, DoT, Ministry of Finance and all the other industry bodies i.e. IBF, DTH Federation, CII, FICCI, ASSOCHAM etc in the media & entertainment Sector.

    The Federation has played key role in bringing all the major players of the industry controlling over 70 per cent of the business under one umbrella and have taken up the issues concerning the cable industry by liaising with the concerned government department/ministry as well as with the other industry bodies of the broadcasters and DTH operators besides playing key role in resolving the deadlock in implementation of phase III of digitization.

    On giving over the baton to Panesar, Wadhwa said, “A solid foundation has been laid for addressing all the concerns of the industry and I am confident that under the leadership of Panesar and active participation by all the members, the federation would further gain strength and shall be able to create an environment for the profitable growth of the cable industry.”

    Commenting on his appointment as the AIDCF president, Panesar said, “I am deeply honored and privileged to be appointed to lead the federation. It’s a big challenge and responsibility entrusted upon me and I look forward to working closely with all members to bring further changes in the environment. Having seen the evolution of the cable & broadcasting industry from the analogue to the digital regime, we are now at the cusp of a another major shift in light of the new regulation which is aimed at improving transparency, empowering customers to exercise choice and ensuring orderly growth of all stakeholders in the eco-system. We strongly believe that technology should be leveraged to address the changing needs of the industry. Together, we will strive towards strengthening our bond with all stakeholders to deliver a world class service to the consumers and improve customer satisfaction levels.”

    Hathway & GTPL to jointly negotiate contracts nationally with broadcasters

    MUMBAI: Hathway and GTPL have entered into a mutual alliance to jointly negotiate contracts related to content and carriage with all broadcasters going forward.

     

    This would include all-India subscription agreements as well as carriage-cum-placement agreements for Digital Addressable Systems (DAS) notified and Non-DAS markets. Additionally, all commercials mutually agreed by both entities with the broadcaster will be applicable to all its subsidiaries and associate entities.

     

    Hathway video business president T.S. Panesar said, “Our mutual understanding with GTPL will bring in better synergies with a more focused, proactive approach in order to build clarity within the value chain, avoid duplication of time and effort, thus, paving the way for systematic functioning.”

     

    GTPL managing director Anirudh Singh Jadeja added, “We are happy to align collectively to negotiate all further deals as it will ensure that resources are best utilised and optimum output is achieved.”
