    Sab TV to launch comedy reality show on 22 August

    MUMBAI: Come 22 August and Sab TV is all set to launch a comedy reality show called Comedy Superstar.

     

    Slated to launch in the 10 pm slot, the show has roped in Sushmita Sen, Sonu Sood and Shekhar Suman as judges, who will search for India’s next comedy idol.

     

    Produced by Pyramid Productions, Comedy Superstar will see aspiring comedians from different segments of the society battling it out to win the title.

     

    Hosted by Jay Soni and Sudeepa Singh, the format of the show is integrated in terms of stages, elimination, selection process and scoring. Unlike most reality shows, Comedy Superstar will not be open to social media or audience polling. The winner will be named solely based upon the judges’ discretion.

     

    Sab TV senior EVP and business head Anooj Kapoor said, “We have explored with the format of the show and it is different from what we have done before. We believe in providing a platform to budding talent, so that they can exhibit their flair.”

    MUMBAI: Sushmita Sen, Sonu Sood and Shekhar Suman have been roped in to judge Sab’s latest offering Comedy Superstars. The show is an attempt to find the next big Comedy Idol.
     

    A talent hunt, it will scout for the best comedians and potential entertainers from around the country. “The winner has to be a comedian, an out and out performer with the X-factor,” says a source. While Sen has in the past judged a celebrity dance show Ek Khiladi Ek Haseena, Sood will be making his TV debut with the show. Both the actors have started shooting for the show which is slated to go on air very soon. 

     

    Comedy Superstars will see aspiring comedians from different segments of the society who participated in country-wide auditions held earlier last month.The makers are looking for someone who is not only a comedian but also an entertainer. The winner will be a package of complete entertainment who will win the hearts of the viewers.

    Sushmita Sen to make a comeback this year

    Bollywood actor Sushmita Sen is eyeing a comeback in Bollywood this year with a woman-oriented film.

     

    Though Sushmita Sen hasn’t signed any film yet, the former Miss Universe said she would love to do a female-oriented role like actress Sridevi in English Vinglish.

     

    The 37-year-old, who was in Kochi to inaugurate the first Kerala salon of accomplished hair and make-up expert Ambika Pillai, told reporters that she will make a comeback this year.

     

    Sushmita Sen was last seen in 2010 film No Problem and had taken a three year break to spend time with her adopted daughters – Alisah and Renee.

    MUMBAI: Producer Gaurang Doshi is well on way to make a sequel of his 2002 film Aankhen that starred Amitabh Bachchan, Akshay Kumar, Arjun Rampal, Paresh Rawal and Sushmita Sen in lead roles. But this time besides Bachchan, the entire cast is set to change.

    Talking about the fresh star cast, Doshi has said, “There will be a new cast except for Amitabh Bachchan. We are on the verge of finalising things and would make an announcement soon.”

    Though the original was directed by Vipul Shah, the second installment will be helmed by a new director. “We have been working on this idea of a sequel since quite some time. The first part of the film had two endings — one for the Indian market and the other for the overseas audience. The three protagonists in the film would remain blind,” averred Doshi, while revealing his plans.

    The sequel that will be shot in India, Canada and England would go on floors soon and is expected to release next year.

    MUMBAI: Bollywood actor and Miss Universe Sushmita Sen will join Hollywood actor Ashley Judd in a documentary on National Geographic channel to raise global awareness on HIV/AIDS. The NGC shoot will take place in the month of March when Ashley Judd comes to India. Judd is the PSI Global Ambassador.

    The documentary will explore why women are particularly vulnerable to HIV infection and to increase awareness of the affliction.

    PSI/India managing director Tim McLellan said, “We are honoured that Sushmita Sen has agreed to partner Ashley Judd in this documentary film for National Geographic channel. She is known for her commitment to women empowerment and this film is all about women empowerment and HIV/Aids awareness.”

    PSI/India is a not-for-profit organization working in the areas of health & women’s empowerment. It uses social marketing to achieve positive behaviour change through the promotion of ideas, products and services conducive to better health. PSI/India is also an active partner in the government’s contraceptive social marketing program

    MUMBAI: 250 children from St. Catherine’s Home wore the broadest smiles on Sunday evening. And there was more than one reason for all the good cheer. The ‘Fun Day’ event organized by Fun Republic Cinemas kept the children enthralled throughout.

    Sushmita Sen along with daughter Renee were present to promote the adventure animation flick ‘Bridge to Terabithia’ which explores the wonders of friendship, family and fantasy. The movie stars Josh Hutcherson, Annasophia Robb, Zooey Deschanel, Robert Patrick, Bailey Madison and Kate Butler. The 95 minute adventure is directed by Gabor Csupo, a world-renowned animation artist. The screenplay by Jeff Stockwell and David Paterson is based on the award-winning novel by Katherine Paterson.

    Speaking at the event Fun Republic vice preseident, marketing Vishal Anand said, “We organized this Fun Day at Fun Republic, to take forward our aim to be the ideal out-of-home entertainment destination. The kids could play, sing, dance and share some special moments with Sushmita Sen and her daughter Renee. Besides, movies always fascinate children and we have got the best release of the week for them. It’s just a small effort to motivate them and add some smiles.”

    The event also acted as a pre-birthday bash for Barbie. The Mattel owned Barbie celebrates her birthday on 9 March. The children were also given a chance to get creative with personalized cards for Barbie’s birthday.

    The day long event featured a dance session and a magic show. This was followed by the actress gifting Barbie dolls to the kids and their teachers. The evening also saw a special screening of Bridge to Terabithia which released nation wide on 16 February

    The Barbie merchandise showcased at the event included Barbie career dolls – as a Doctor, an Art Teacher, a Baby Photographer and a Pet Sitter. These dolls highlight the values of caring, nurturing, and self confidence, encouraging every girl to dream and have the courage to make her dreams come true. Mattel owned doll aims to spread the message of ‘Be who you want to be… with Barbie’.

    B.A.G declares Q3 net profit up 33% at Rs 12 million

    MUMBAI: Anurradha Prasad’s B.A.G Films today announced its financial results for the quarter ended 31 December 2006. Net profit was up 33 per cent at Rs 12 million while revenues were up 20 per cent to Rs 109 million.

    The company has a presence in the programming, films and new media business segments, besides running a media school.
    During the quarter, B.A.G launched two new shows – Ankhiyon Ke Jharokhon Se on Star Plus and Yeh Vaada Raha on ARY Channel, Dubai.

    B.A.G’s movies report card was quite disappointing though with “Zindaggi Rocks”, starring Sushmita Sen, and directed by Tanuja Chandra, proving a monumental flop. The company also released Punjabi film “Mannat” during the quarter.

    MUMBAI: Home video firm Shemaroo has released Brian Lara’s epic innings 400 Not Out.

    West Indian batsman Brian Lara made the highest score in a test innings. The DVD and VCD of the fourth Test innings of West Indies versus England in Antigua 2004 contains the record setting moments and captures history in the making.

    The DVD also includes snapshots of former test players speaking about the epic innings. The digitally mastered all region DVD comes with 5.1 Dolby Digital sound and has interactive menus for easy access to scenes.

    Also.just three weeks after the theatrical release, Shemaroo has released the VCDs and DVDs of the Sushmita Sen and Mithun Chakraborty starrer Chingaari. Director Kalpana Lajmi’s women-oriented films like Daman have made a sound statement in the society and Chingaari too reverberates on a similar theme bringing forth the plight of a prostitute in a distant Indian village.

    Sen plays Basanti, a prostitute, who when mauled, revolts against the evil village priest Bhuvan Panda, played by Chakraborty.
