Zee TV’s India’s Best Dramebaaz bids adieu; Kapil Sharma hosts the grand finale

MUMBAI: Comedian Kapil Sharma brought to close season two of India’s Best Drameebaz (IBD) on Sunday, March 6 by hosting its grand finale. Produced by Frames Productions, season two completed its 26 episode journey. On 12 December 2015 Zee TV had once again brought back the second season of this home grown laughter dose which had children in the age group of 5 to13 years. .

Zee Enterprises Entertainment Ltd (ZEEL)’s flagship channel Zee TV has always provided platforms that have contributed talented performers to the entertainment industry. Being a pioneer in making its own home grown reality shows, Zee has always given some of the best entertaining reality shows. After producing a series of talent reality shows like Sa Re Ga Ma Pa, Dance India Dance, Dance India Dance Li’l champs, India’s Best Cinestar Ki Khoj, the channel had launched India’s Best Dramebaaz (IBD) in 2013.

Zee TV roped in a number of brands for the season 2 of IBD. These included Surf Excel as the title sponsor and Patanjali Atta Noodles as co-powered by sponsor. Besides, the channel also had other brands including Britannia Tiger Crunch, Yamaha Fascino, Epson, Vistaprint.in and Dabur Chawanprash as associate sponsors.

A source informed indiantelevision.com that the production cost for the show was Rs 70-80 lakh per episode, and the ad rate for a 10 second slot was Rs 1.5 lakh.

Zee marketed IDB season 2 aggressively. The campaign posed a distinctive challenge because it had kids at the forefront and hence would have been perceived as a kids show and would not appeal to the other audiences.

To specifically counter the unique challenge that IBD faced, a unique strategy was devised. All communication on IBD was contextual via customized communication for TGs and specific markets which was carried across all media vehicles including TV, radio and cinema.

Special promos resonating with various genres of TV audiences were created and run across different mediums including cinema, music, news and kids channels. Clutter-breaking and entertaining radio spots were specifically created for each market highlighting issues. A special print innovation was carried across key publications.

On the digital front, various innovations were a part of this campaign. Zee TV tied up with Facebook and conducted a Facebook bus activity wherein fun content was generated with the judges and participants and populated across social media.

As the show approached the finale week, Zee TV tied up with Twitter to provide a unique social media experience to its fans. The Twitter Challenger App was a unique initiative that brought forth the fun side of its participants through various challenges. The judges, anchors and the top 6 finalists created pictures and videos that were funny, topical and fresh. The same were populated across social media during the finale week.

The efforts put in by Zee TV to market the show seem to have paid off handsomely. In week 6 of Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC), IBD emerged as the number one non-fiction show in Hindi GEC space with 8148 TVTs while in week 7 the show continued to be the number one non-fiction show with 7057 Impressions’ 000. In week 8 IBD remained at the top with an increase in viewership from 7057 to 7382 Impressions ‘000.

Frames Production’s Ranjit Thakur said, “India’s Best Dramebaaz has really won the heart of Indian audiences. The kids were fabulous and fantastic, also all the three judges Sonali Bendre, Vivek Oberoi and Sajid Khan, we all are like a big family now. Also working with Zee after a couple of years was amazing. I am happy that we have delivered this beautiful show.”

  • Zee TV slots ‘India’s Best Dramebaaz’ season 2 at 9.30 pm

Zee TV slots ‘India’s Best Dramebaaz’ season 2 at 9.30 pm

MUMBAI: Come 12 December and Zee TV is all set to launch the second season of kid’s reality series India’s Best Dramebaaz. The show will be aired on Saturday and Sunday in the 9.30 pm time slot.

The channel has roped in Surf Excel as the presenting sponsor and Patanjali Dantkanti as the co-powered by sponsor for the show.

This time round, director Sajid Khan joins Sonali Bendre and Vivek Oberoi on the judges’ panel. The show will be hosted by Rithvik Dhanjani and Ravi Dubey.

Speaking about the format of the show’s second season, Zee TV business head Pradeep Hejmadi said, “The new season of India’s Best Dramebaaz looks out for children with an ability to diffuse any tension and instantly brightens your mood with their ability to entertain. The format will be same with minor changes. This time we are giving them feedback in a very nice manner. We are calling them for homework and also helping them on how they can make it better.”

He further added, “Through this season, we have a special concept of piggy bank (Gulak) wherein as they perform their points will go to the bank. If they leave the show at any point, they will have the opportunity to encash the money and take it back with them. There will never be a sad moment for the kids. Besides starting with Lil Champs itself, we made sure that the kids get exposure to the main industry. Even here our aim is to get as many guests on the show as possible so that we can give the kids more exposure.”

The channel has even taken into consideration feedback from the last season and made changes in the show. One major change was to tone down the bold content. “We have cut down the shooting schedules. Also, we have seen to it that kids don’t face any parental pressure and perform the way they want to,” Hejmadi said.

In first season, Zee TV aired the show in the 9 pm time slot. Speaking about the time shift, this season he informed, “We have seen that 9:30 pm is a good time because family aggregates more nicely post this time. We got enough views and feedback for the 9.30 pm time slot. That’s the reason we brought the non-fiction time to 9:30 pm.”

India’s Best Dramebaaz is meant to bring alive the kids talent in the most endearing manner to the audiences.

The key TG of the show is women, kids and teens and both the communication as well as the touch points have been arrived at keeping the nature of the show and the TG and target markets in mind.

The audio – visual blitzkrieg will be further amplified via the digital, print, on ground and radio platforms. Digital will not merely be restricted to promos but will have customised Dubsmashes created by Zee stars that will take them to their ‘dramebaazi’ days as kids. This will be amplified through the Zee TV social media clout.

The show launches at the cusp of the holiday season and mall activations will be used to get the kids and parents live the ‘dramebaazi’ quotient by a simple ‘wheel of dramebaazi’ game. Additionally, radio promotions will ensure that a complete 360 surround is created to ensure maximum tune-ins.

Speaking about the role that rural data will play in content creation, Hejmadi asserted, “We used to go to small areas and test the content. We always make sure that our content is acceptable across the nation. Having that is an  acknowledgement of rural popularity. We will continue to look at the patterns. So, the content creation will remain the same.”

  • Surf Excel engages with consumers via Vijay TV’s show ‘Little Big Film Makers’

Surf Excel engages with consumers via Vijay TV’s show ‘Little Big Film Makers’

BANGALORE: Unilever’s detergent brand Surf Excel has partnered with the Star Network’s Tamil offering to create a one hour television show–‘Surf Excel Little Big Film Makers’ (LBFM) that has helped the brand to engage with consumers in three cities in Tamil Nadu – Madurai, Coimbatore and Chennai. The initiative kicked off in early February this year.

Based on the brief by the sponsors, Vijay TV gave an opportunity to children between 8 and 14 years of age in the three cities to tell a story that highlighted the concept “Dirt is good” (‘Daag aache hai). Surf Excel had started using the tag line Daag aache hai sometime towards the end of 2005 and continues to use it even today in many of its television commercials and promos. Exciting and interesting stories were identified and shortlisted by the show judges – leading director A.R. Murugadoss and actor Suhasini Maniratnam.

Vijay TV says that it has conducted road shows in the selected cities and had hundreds of school children participate in narrating their ideas. Eight of the selected stories told by these kids were converted into ad films by three ad film makers – Roshni Chandra and Socrates
from Primary Colours, Balaji from Reel Root and Sendil from Phoenix Films under guidance from the authors of the stories.

LBFM went on air a few weeks ago on the Sunday morning 10 am slot and Vijay TV will be airing the tenth episode and the grand finale of LBFM on April 24 at 10 am.

“Tamil Nadu is an important market; as a matter of fact, it is the largest market for us. This initiative was more for consumer engagement and we may have similar programmes with other channels if the opportunity arises,” explained Surf Excel brand manager Tanveer Khan.

“Our current on-air ‘Daag aache hain’ campaign has been created by our agency Lowe. We may use the eight short films which are about 2 to 2 and a half minutes long each in cinema theatres and selectively on television,” revealed Khan.

The eight selected stories that have been made into ad films are:Happy Birthday Patti” by Abhinaya (a short and sweet film about how a little girl whips up a surprise for her dear grandmother on her birthday); Kitchen Galatta by Evangeline (a fun film about a father and son who decide to surprise the mother with a lunch prepared by them in the kitchen); Anbulla Amma by Vasundhara (an emotional tale of a girl and her prized artwork that she presents to her parents before leaving for boarding school); My new friend by Rahul (a story of how a new boy in the class is bullied in the class and his new classmate comes to his rescue and they become friends; Thaatha’s Treasure by Raja (a story of magic and hidden treasure, little Tejas is out to seek a hidden treasure for his grandmother); Chutti Ponnu by Ziya (a story of little girl Riya, who saves her friend the waiter from an angry customer at her birthday party); Chicken Champion (the writer Arun Balaji has written the chicken story as two boys become friends over a chicken coop); and Muniyamma by Abhay (a tale of a boy who goes out of his way to help a distressed woman on the street).

Vijay TV will be airing the eight ad films during the grand finale and present awards to the children that helped create them. As a part of the festivities, special performances by the contestants of Junior Super Stars – Lakshmi, Alsabeth, Priyanka, Balasarangan, Jayanth and Shanmugapriya and dance performance by Junior Jodis Rinson & Gabriella will be aired during the grand finale.
