    MUMBAI: The newsroom is getting a health check and Sonal Mehrotra Kapoor is writing the prescription. India Today Group has roped in the award-winning journalist as senior editor and anchor to helm the launch of what it calls India’s first-of-its-kind omni-platform brand dedicated to health and wellness. The initiative, rooted in the credo “to inform, not influence,” aims to bring science-backed, trustworthy content to a nation in the middle of what experts call a “health revolution.”

    With over 17 years in the media trenches, Sonal has built a reputation for hard-hitting, human-centred storytelling across some of India’s biggest newsrooms from 11 years as associate editor and anchor at NDTV, to over three years as editor at Moneycontrol.com. Now, she brings that editorial muscle to a sector she’s deeply invested in, armed not just with a journalist’s instincts but also a Harvard certification in nutrition.

    Reporting to B V Rao and working closely with Supriya Prasad, Sonal will spearhead content that blends digital innovation, credible journalism, and wellness expertise.     MUMBAI: India Today Group has witnessed a flurry of activity at senior levels with the recent being Supriya Prasad and Rahul Kanwal getting elevated to news directors in Aaj tak and India Today respectively. And now it’s time for three more executives to get promotion. The latest movers in the hierarchy include Prerna Kaul Mishra, Sanjay Sinha and Amit Gupta, who were elevated by the company. A source close to the development confirmed the news to Indiantelevision.com.

    Mishra will now be the managing editor, social media and content services and she will also play a key role in ensuring the social media policy is followed and prevent abuse and misuse in a politically charged atmosphere.

    Sinha has been leading the rapid success of Tez and Astro Tak, which has recently crossed one million subscribers. He has now been promoted as the senior executive editor and will continue leading Tez, Tez’s contribution to YouTube via Astro Tak and the brand new The Lallantop show.

    Gupta, who is the chief executive officer of Mail Today, will take on added responsibilities as the head brand solutions across publishing and digital. His job will be to support clients in reaching target audiences through unique, customised experiences across publishing and digital platforms.

    Last month India Today TV appointed Ranjana Mangla as the national revenue head. Earlier this year, the network promoted Kalli Purie to managing director and vice chairperson for a tenure of five years, which started from 1 April 2018.

    MUMBAI: Its promotion time at India Today Group with Rahul Kanwal and Supriya Prasad, managing editors India Today and Aaj Tak respectively, being elevated to news directors on Thursday. A source close to the development confirmed the news to Indiatelevision.com.

    Both Kanwal and Prasad have played a key role in driving their respective brands to become major players in the news broadcasting business.

    Aaj Tak continues to dominate the Hindi news genre week after week, while India TV is among the top three broadcasters in the English news segment on a regular basis.

    Recently, India Today TV appointed Ranjana Mangla as the national revenue head. She is currently reporting to the chief revenue officer Rahul Kumar Shaw and is based out of Noida.

    Earlier this year, the network elevated Kalli Purie to MD and chairperson for a period of five years, which started from 1 April 2018.

    Aaj Tak relaunches ‘Seedhi Baat’

    MUMBAI: TV Today Network has relaunched its big-ticket Hindi show Seedhi Baat. The show will be hosted by Sweta Singh, news anchor and executive editor of special programming at Aaj Tak.

    The first episode of the show, which  will air at 8 pm on 24 March, will feature BJP president Amit Shah as the guest.

    TV Today Network managing editor Supriya Prasad said, “Seedhi Baat aims to have blunt straight talk with various leaders of the industry. It embodies a tough-as-nails approach to interviews. One-on-one hard-hitting conversations with powerful leaders, celebrities, tycoons and so forth as opposed to noisy debates.” 

    The guests in Seedhi Baat will be from across a variety of sectors – UP chief minister Yogi Adityanath and Congress leader Jyotiraditya Scindia to name a few from politics and Amitabh Bachchan, Akshay Kumar and Shah Rukh Khan from Bollywood while Virat Kohli and Hardik Pandya from the world of sports. The channel intends to approach prime minister Narendra Modi and Congress president Rahul Gandhi.

    “Sweta is one of our most experienced journalists. She has tremendous exposure to news coverage. She has interviewed politicians, cricketers, international leaders, actors. But above all, her style of interviewing is direct without being fierce. She asks straight questions but does not shout down her guests,” added Prasad.

    The promotions of the show will run all through the year. The network will also have a driver program running up to the 2019 elections. Out of home campaigns will run in Delhi and major cities in Uttar Pradesh as well as the old mix of outdoor, TV, radio, print and social media.

    Speaking on the opportunity, Singh said, “I will be direct, tough and assertive. But I don’t believe in cutting my guest mid sentence. Seedhi Baat is a huge brand and I will put in all efforts to uphold the dignity, neutrality and credibility of the show.” 

    She believes that the show will deliver what the audiences are looking for. “The audiences want to hold power to account. They want honest answers. They want to see the reality, the truth. Seedhi Baatpromises to deliver all of that. It’s assertive but not noisy. The show has a proud history. It has had leaders like Narendra Modi facing tough questions. It featured superstars of the stature of Salman Khan and Amitabh Bachchan. Our Seedhi Baat with them is still etched in public memory,” she said.

    Seedhi Baat is iconic for its earlier host Prabhu Chawla who won several awards for the show and for his style of asking direct and to-the-point questions. After his departure from the India Today group in 2010, the show was taken over by MJ Akbar.

    Hindi news channels alter programming for Gujarat elections

    MUMBAI: With the Gujarat elections on the horizon, the central government has made several populist moves including the cut in GST on many products and services. Hindi news channels have rearranged their programming line-up for the upcoming assembly elections, which will be held in two phases—9 December and 14 December 2017.

    The results will be announced on 18 December 2017. In the frenzy to cover this event, news channels are leaving no stone unturned to grab eyeballs.

    iTV Network, one of India’s media houses, has expanded further into the regional news space with the launch of a dedicated channel for Gujarat called India News Gujarat on 4 December 2017 with six regional channels in its bouquet. Being launched ahead of the highly-anticipated Gujarat Elections, 2017, the Gujarat Debate will be a programme to watch out for. 

    iTV editor-in-chief Deepak Chaurasia told Indiantelevision.com, “We are covering the elections from different aspects of it like debate, day-to-day updates, rallies, special interviews with around 40 senior correspondents. The new shows are Kissa Kursi Ka, a live debate show and at 8 and 10 pm everyday we have a special bulletin on elections.”

    ABP News has started Kaun Banega Mukhyamantri which will focus on the Himachal Pradesh and Gujarat elections from the audience’s perspective and a review of the political parties’ agenda. The show will be telecast twice a day at 5:30 pm and 6:30 pm. On 9 December 2017 the show will start from 6am and will go on till 2pm. In another show Poll Khol, the anchor will present the latest updates surrounding the upcoming elections in various regions of India. The show will run for 30 minutes from 7:30pm.

    India TV’s flagship election mega conclave Chunav Manch in its second edition at Ahmedabad saw an enviable line-up of participants both from the ruling as well as the opposition benches.

    In his welcome address, Rajat Sharma outlined the performance of the ruling regime, their pre-poll promises, people’s expectations, Prime Minister’s Modi’s undaunting image etc. He also highlighted the opposition’s charges ranging from rising unrest among the business class to unemployment issues to questioning the Gujarat model of development.

    India TV Managing Director Ritu Dhawan said, “We are happy because of the huge success of the initiative. But what makes us happier is that we were able to generate top-notch participation and we had a full-house throughout the day. This is especially when we were aware that our competition has been struggling to get in and keeping the audiences at their respective venues.”

    A few amongst those who participated in different sessions were, BJP President Amit Shah, Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad, Gujarat CM Vijay Rupani, Gujarat Deputy CM Nitin Patel, BJP National Spokesman Sambit Patra, BJP MP Kirit Solanki, BJP Leader Jitu Vaghani, Ex Gujarat CM Shankersinh Vaghela, PAAS Leader Hardik Patel, Leader of Opposition in Gujarat Assembly, Arjun Modhwadia, Congress Leaders Sanjay Nirupam and Randeep Singh Surjewala.

    Aaj Tak managing editor Supriya Prasad said, “For the elections, we are doing a debate show called Raj Tilak at 15 places. We have deputed around 24 reporters for the coverage of this elections.Gujarat ka Sardar Kaun is the show in which political experts discuss the Gujarat legislative assembly elections, and is aired everyday at4:30 pm.”

    NDTV India is very innovatively used the show’s tagline as ‘Abki Baar Kiski Sarkar’ which sheds light on political parties and the candidates vying for the top posts in the current election.

    Aaj Tak brings back ‘Vande Mataram’ with Shatrughan Sinha

    MUMBAI: India’s premier Hindi news channel Aaj Tak is all set to launch the second season of its successful show Vande Mataram which will be hosted by veteran Bollywood actor and parliamentarian Shatrugan Sinha. Eminent actor Om Puri will be seen lending his voice to the show.

     

    Through the 12 episodes, the channel plans to enlighten viewers about untold tales of bravery and valour of India’s freedom fighters. For example, the channel says little do people know that Amar Shaheed Bhagat Singh was an avid reader and by the young age of 24 years he had read all the books of over 34 eminent authors.

      

    The saga will feature never seen before footage and stories of freedom fighters right like Subhash Chandra Bose, Chandra Shekhar Azad, Bhagat Singh and many more. It will be telecast on the channel every Saturday and Sunday at 10 pm and will commence from 23 August

     

    Aaj Tak managing editor Supriya Prasad says, “The first season of Vande Mataram set benchmarks in news programming showing India’s wars after independence. Season two will feature stories of India’s war for independence and each episode will cover the struggle and the story of a revolutionary.” Season one was anchored  by Kabir Bedi in 2013.

     

    Prasad praised Sinha’s oratory skills and exemplary command over Urdu Shayari and Hindi poetry. “His screen image of a patriotic star, his aggressive image and deep baritone voice added to his choice as preferred face for the show,” he adds.

     

    Meanwhile speaking to indiantelevision.com, the actor says he wanted to do the show because he found it energetic, youthful and uncompromisingly patriotic.  He also carefully explains his previous stints on the small screen. “I did the Shotgun Show. Then I also hosted the Bhojpuri version of KBC. But this show defines me and I feel it is absolutely necessary for every Indian to watch it, to know our history.”

     

    The channel is going all out to promote the show extensively with a special emphasis on northern India.TV promos are being telecast on all the channels networks to woo audiences. Radio jingles are being aired across seven radio stations and ads have been placed in the newspaper Mail Today. Plans are afoot to place hoardings across Delhi in 30 to 40 major outdoor locations. Hoardings too will be put up in Mumbai the coming week. A source from the channel pegs the marketing cost to be between Rs 90 lakhs to Rs one crore.

     
    Prasad also says that the shows on patriotism have helped the channel build a strong bond with the viewers and the first season of Vande Mataram won critical acclaim by winning awards in three categories for best show, best producer and best editing.

    Aaj Tak launches new show ‘Har Har Gangay’

    MUMBAI: Indian Hindi news channel, Aaj Tak, has launched a special series on India’s most revered river, the Ganga, titled Har Har Gangay. The series promises to give an in-depth perspective on the state the river which has seen an onslaught of pollution owing to rampant negligence and public apathy.  

     

    According to Aaj Tak managing editor Supriya Prasad the thought behind this show is to take these issues to millions of viewers while also suggesting a roadmap to the recovery.

     

    Through the 12 part series which began on 14 July Har Har Gangay will start from the source of Ganga at Gomukh at a height of 13,200 feet and will follow the river through Gangotri, Uttarkashi, Rishikesh, Haridwar, Kanpur, Allahabad, Varanasi, Patna, Bhagalpur, Farakka and will finally culminate at Ganga Sagar. The series is being led by Aaj Tak’s senior anchor and editor Sweta Singh.

     

    The series has several big names associated with it such as the 87 year old environmentalist Sunderlal Bahuguna, Swami Ramdev and Swami Chidanand Saraswati of the Ganga Action Parivar. “We also plan to interview Minister for Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation Uma Bharati,” adds Prasad.

    A team of around 10 people were involved in the project along with others. In addition to the regular cameras, a special drone camera was also used . Aaj Tak had used drone cameras for its election programme Election Express as well.

     

    To mobilise audiences, the news platform will be leveraged in addition to SMS service, a dedicated website for the cause of the show and other media to create a people led movement towards the cause.

     

    The show will air from Monday to Saturday at 8:30 pm.
