    Sun TV Q1 results: Revenue rises 47.38% to Rs 1,193.90 crore

    Mumbai: Sun TV Network revenue increased by 47.38 per cent (including IPL) to Rs 1,193.90 crore in Q1 FY23, compared to Rs 810.10 crore in Q1 FY2022.

    The advertisement revenues for the quarter were up by 40.84 per cent for the quarter ended June 2022 at Rs 343.17 crore as against Rs 243.66 crore from the previous year’s same quarter. Ebidta increased by 54.32 per cent to Rs 763.83 crore from Rs 494.97 crore. For the same period, profit after taxes increased by 26.15 per cent to Rs. 491.68 crore, up from Rs 389.76 crore the previous year.

    At the board meeting held on Friday, the board of directors declared an interim dividend of rupees five per share (100 per cent) on a face value of rupees five per share.

    Sun TV operates satellite television channels across six languages: Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Bangla, and Marathi. It also airs FM radio stations across India and owns the SunRisers Hyderabad cricket franchise of the Indian Premier League and the Digital OTT Platform Sun NXT.

    Sun TV has been awarded a licence to operate a team in the city of Gqeberha (Port Elizabeth) by the Africa Cricket Development (Pty) as part of Cricket South Africa’s T20 league to be staged from January 2023 and annually thereafter.

    Mumbai: Broadcast Audience Research Council (Barc) India has released TV currency data for Week 24 i.e., 11 June to 17 June. Star Plus regained No. 1 spot in the Hindi-speaking market.

    As per all India 2+ target group data, Sun TV Network was the most watched channel during the week with an average minute audience (AMA) of 2394.13 (000). It was followed by Star Maa with 2272.03 (000) AMA, Star Plus at 2081.99 (000) AMA, Goldmines at 1843.02 (000) AMA and Sony SAB at 1678.96 (000) AMA.

    Average minute audience is defined as the number of individuals of a target audience who viewed a televised “event”, averaged across minutes.

    In the Hindi-speaking market, Star Plus was the most watched channel with 2011.23 (000) AMA. Goldmines fell into second place at 1815.44 (000) AMA followed by Sony Sab at 1638.03 and Dangal at 1623.97 (000) AMA.

    In the South, Sun TV was the most watched channel with 2384.2 (000) AMA, followed by Star Maa at 2228.4 (000) AMA, Star Vijay at 1501.4 (000) AMA, Zee Kannada at 1500.36 (000) AMA and Zee Telugu at 1379.31 (000) AMA.

    In the Maharashtra/Goa market, Star Pravah was the leading channel with 1450.45 (000) AMA followed by Zee Marathi at 589.26 (000), Sony SAB, Colors Marathi and Star Plus.

    In the West Bengal market, Star Jalsha was the most watched channel with 1032.2 (000) AMA, followed by Zee Bangla at 754.58 (000) AMA, Jalsha Movies at 195.55 (000) AMA, Sony Aath and Zee Bangla Cinema.

    In the megacities market including Mumbai, New Delhi, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Chennai, Sun TV was the most watched channel at 430.43 (000) AMA followed by Star Plus, Sony SAB, Colors and Star Pravah.

    Mumbai: Sun TV Network has announced its fourth quarter and yearly results for the financial year ended 31 March 2022. The company reported consolidated revenues of Rs 3584.82 crore for the year up by 12.84 per cent as against Rs 3,176.89 crore for the corresponding year ended 31 March 2021. Earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization (Ebitda) for the same period was higher by 10.43 per cent at Rs 2,287 crore as against Rs 2,017.38 crore for the previous year.

    The profit after tax (including shares from joint ventures) for the year stood at Rs 1641.91 crore up by 7.65 per cent.

    The advertising revenues of the company for the year stood at Rs 1300.60 crore as against Rs 994.03 crore up by 30.84 per cent year-on-year. Its subscription revenues for the year stood at Rs 1657.13 crore, as against Rs 1,721.48 crore for the previous year.

    For the fourth quarter, the company reported revenue of Rs 833.01 per cent crore up by 6.52 per cent year-on-year. Its profit after tax for the quarter stood at Rs 404.35 crore as against Rs 449.88 crore in the corresponding quarter last year.

    The company’s advertising revenue for the quarter stood at Rs 337.13 crore up by 7.07 per cent. It reported subscription revenue of Rs 416.03 crore for the quarter as against Rs 428.12 crore for the corresponding quarter last year.

    Sun TV Network operates satellite television channels across six languages of Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Bangla and Marathi, airs FM radio stations across India and owns the SunRisers Hyderabad Cricket franchise of the Indian Premier League and the digital OTT platform SunNXT.

    Sun TV Q3 revenue excluding IPL up 27.76% to Rs 975.16 crore

    Mumbai: Sun TV Network has posted its results for the third quarter of FY 2022. The media company’s revenue for the quarter, excluding the IPL, has increased by 27.76 per cent year-on-year to Rs 975.16 crore. Its overall revenues were at Rs 1033.10 crore and saw a growth of 6.25 per cent versus the same period year-on-year (31 December 2020).

    The EBIDTA for the quarter grew by 20.18 per cent at Rs 721.87 crore and profit before taxes grew marginally by 2.90 per cent over the corresponding quarter ended 31 December 2020.

    The profit after taxes (excluding the IPL) stood at Rs 437.89 crore up by 14.44 per cent YoY and the overall profit after taxes grew by 3.52 per cent to Rs 457.39 crores as against the corresponding quarter year-on-year.

    The total comprehensive income for the quarter was up by 3.52 per cent at Rs 457.20 crore YoY. The earnings per share for the current quarter grew by 3.52 per cent at Rs 11.61 as against Rs 11.21 for the corresponding quarter ended 31 December 2020.

    Sun TV’s board of directors has declared an interim dividend of Rs 2.50 per share (50 per cent) on a face value of Rs five per share.

    During the current quarter, Sun Pictures had released the blockbuster film “Annaatthe” starring superstar Rajinikanth.

    Mumbai: Sun TV maintained its hold over the top spot in week 50 (11 December to 17 December), according to recently released Broadcast Audience Research Council (Barc) data. The channel garnered weekly ratings of 2748.43 (‘000s), against last week’s 2790.42.

    Swapping their positions this week Star Maa emerged as the second most-viewed channel with 2702.64 AMA while Star Plus was at number three with 2668.97 (‘000s).

    They were followed by Star Utsav, Star Vijay, Colors, Sony SAB, Zee Kannada, Zee Tv and Dhinchaak in that order.

    With weekly AMAs of 453.17 (‘000s) Sun TV was the top performer in the Mega Cities list, followed by Colors, Star Plus, Sony SAB, and Star Vijay. The south market was also dominated by the Tamil major at 2740.81. Star Maa, Star Vijay, Zee Kannada, and Zee Telugu clinched remaining spots.

    Among the regional markets, Maharashtra/Goa was led by Star Pravah (1425.54), West Bengal by Star Jalsha (1228.95), Odisha by Tarang (486.04), and Karnataka by Zee Kannada (1590.84).

    At 226.25 and 388.79 AMA, Star Utsav was the most-viewed channel in Rajasthan and UP/Uttarakhand.

    Sun TV Network reports 9.59 per cent growth in Q2 FY22

    Mumbai: Sun TV Network has released its results for the financial quarter ended on 30 September. The media company has reported revenue collection of Rs 828.67 crore up by ~9.59 per cent compared to the corresponding quarter in 2020. 

    The company’s advertising revenue increased by ~39.84 per cent to reach Rs 341.77 crore. It reported profit after tax of Rs 393.32 crore up by 13.71 per cent. EBITDA for the quarter stood at Rs 520.58 crore as against Rs 502.03 crore in the corresponding quarter in 2020.  

    Sun TV Network is one of the largest TV broadcasters in India and operates channels in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Bangla and Marathi, airs FM radio stations across India and owns the Sunrisers Hyderabad Cricket Franchise of the Indian Premier League.

    NTO 2.0: Sun TV Network publishes new RIO

    Mumbai: Sun TV Network has filed its reference interconnection offer (RIO) issued under telecommunications (broadcasting and cable) services interconnection (addressable systems) regulations, 2017 for all distribution platforms. The new RIO will be effective from 6 December onwards. 

    The tariffs for TV channels mentioned in the RIO adhere to the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) new tariff order (NTO) 2.0.

    The network operates 23 pay-TV standard definition channels, eight high definition pay channels, and two free to air channels. It is also offering 21 bouquets. Tamil general entertainment channel (GEC) Sun TV, Telugu GEC Gemini TV, and Kannada GEC Udaya TV tariffs are greater than Rs 12.

    As per the new tariff regime 2.0 order, Trai has mandated that a channel’s MRP must not exceed Rs 12 for it to be included in any bouquet.

    The implementation of the new tariff order 2.0 is on hold as broadcasters under the aegis of the Indian Broadcasting Foundation (IBF) have challenged the Trai order in the Supreme Court. The final hearing on the matter is scheduled for 30 November.

    Sun TV Network launches Marathi GEC Sun Marathi

    Mumbai: Sun TV Network has launched its Marathi general entertainment channel (GEC) Sun Marathi on 17 October.

    The channel’s tagline is ‘sohala natyancha’ which translates to ‘celebrating relationships.’ The channel has announced three hours of original programming with six shows starting from 6:30 p.m to 9:30 p.m.

    The shows announced are “Nandini” at 6:30 p.m, “Sundari” at 7:00 p.m, “Jaau nako dur..baba!” at 7:30 pm, “Abhalachi Maya” at 8 p.m, “Kanyadaan” at 8:30 p.m and “Sant Gajanan Shegaviche” at 9 p.m.

    The channel has also announced ‘bagha roj jinka rokh’ (‘watch daily, win cash’) contest which every day offers an opportunity for more than 1,000 viewers to win up to two crores in cash prize from Dussehra to Diwali. Every day during the contest period, one question will be asked in each of the six shows and viewers will have to give a missed call to register their answers on the numbers provided, said the broadcast network in a statement.

    Sun Marathi is widely distributed and is available on all leading DTH platforms including DD Free, Dish as well as on all cable networks across Maharashtra for free. In terms of its placement, it is part of the Marathi GEC neighborhood on all the platforms.

    Mumbai: J Ravindran has resigned as independent director of Sun TV Network board, according to a company filing with the BSE. 

    He submitted his resignation at the closing of business hours on 24 September. 

    “At present he is unable to devote time to the company and there is no material reason for his resignation,” said a statement from the company. 

    The company’s board of directors comprise Desmond Hemanth Theodore, K Vijaykumar, Kalanithi Maran, C Praveen, V C Unnikrishnan, R Ravi, Kavery Kalanithi, Kaviya Kalanithi Maran, MK Harinarayan, Mathipoorna Ramakrishnan, Nicholas Martin Paul, R Mahesh Kumar, R Ravivenkatesh, S Selvam and Sridhar Venkatesh.

    Dhirendra Yashwant appointed as Sun Marathi head of marketing

    Mumbai: Sun TV Network has appointed Dhirendra Yashwant as head of marketing for its newly launched general entertainment channel (GEC) Sun Marathi.

    Sun TV Network is one of India’s largest broadcasters and has a massive viewership in the South. It recently forayed into Marathi GEC space with the launch of the free-to-air channel Sun Marathi.

    Yashwant was previously associated with Shemaroo Entertainment as DGM – marketing for two and a half years. During his 13 years in the TV industry, he has been associated with Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd (ZEEL), and Times Network.

    He has experience launching new channels including the launch of Marathi film channel Shemaroo MarathiBana and Hindi GEC Shemaroo TV in his previous assignment. Shemaroo MarathiBana crossed the 100 GRPs mark in the fifth month of operations, which set a milestone in Marathi television. He also has experience working on the Marathi channels Zee Marathi and Zee Talkies during his stint at ZEEL.

    His expertise lies in managing TV brands across various genres including GEC, films, music, business and general news and across multiple languages including English, Hindi, and Marathi. His media experience includes working on TV, OTT, print, films, and radio.
