Motorola hands social & digital mandate to Omnicom

MUMBAI: Motorola Mobility India has awarded its social media and digital creative mandate to Omnicom Media Group post a multi-agency pitch.

Omnicom partnered with 21N78E Creative labs for the pitch and the business will be managed out of Gurgaon.

Motorola head of marketing Rachna Lather says, “Our brand and products are uniquely placed in the consumers’ mindset. An iconic brand with a youthful energy, our brand resonates well with our audiences. We have a good line-up of launches this year, starting with the launch of moto g6 and moto e5 families. We were looking for potential partners who could help push the envelope, think strategically and conceptualise campaigns that can break the category code.”

Omnicom Media Group managing director Sudhir Nair adds, “I remember my Motorola handsets from the past, because of the brand’s strong marketing campaigns and positioning. The brand is indexed heavily on the fan following it enjoys, as well as the USPs and features that make it a great product. Needless to say, this win reinforces Omnicom Media Group’s credentials as a full-service media network.”

21N78E COO Nikhil Shahane mentions, “As an agency that was setup to bridge the ever-increasing gap between businesses and today’s consumers, Motorola is the perfect brand for us to partner with. We’re excited to leverage our creative-tech capabilities as we collaborate on how best to do disruptive work to match the devices that make this a youth brand.”

Berger Paints targets Kerala in latest campaign

MUMBAI: Paint company Berger Paints has launched its new ad campaign around WeatherCoat Longlife Exterior Paint specifically for the Kerala market.

This new ad campaign is strategically made to match up to the outlook of Malayalis. The story revolves around a simple fact that every Malayali loves his/her state and strongly feels the urge to keep alive the regional spirit. Through the product, the brand has subtly touched upon the local culture and added a flavour to the Kerala palette for Malayali consumers.

The objective behind launching this new TVC is to promote WeatherCoat Longlife Luxury Exterior Paint as a product, which not only has the functional benefit to cater to all weather conditions of Kerala, but also to satisfy the aspirational needs of a home owner in Kerala.

Berger Paints India general manager of marketing Sudhir Nair says, “The new TV commercial harps on the idea of keeping up the aspirational outlook of  the Malayalis and providing with a quality product which offers ultimate protection under extreme weather conditions. The product is not only everlasting but has an unmatched sheen, which gives protection against fungal and algal growth. After a lot of technological development and innovation we have come up with such a unique product which perfectly suits the requirement of the Kerala consumers.”

The concept of a beautiful home and colourful glamorous walls go hand in hand to make the journey of our lives brighter. The TVC is built on a famous Kerala folk song ‘Kantha Njanum Varam’ which is associated with the traditional local annual festival Thrissur Pooram. The film has been directed by award winning film director Martin Prakkat, and it features celebrities like Renji Panicker and Alencier Ley Lopez thus highlighting the aspirational factor.

  • Sunil Lulla will bring in a new dimension in our offering to clients: Nirvik Singh

Sunil Lulla will bring in a new dimension in our offering to clients: Nirvik Singh

When indiantelevision.com wrote about Sunil Lulla taking up a leadership position in Grey India, it did surprise many in the industry. Very few knew or recollected that Lulla’s roots have been in advertising: he was an account director at HTA (now JWT India) and had also taken the role of regional client servicing director on the Colgate Palmolive business with Y&R New York.

The announcement of his joining saw the departure of president & CEO Jishnu Sen. Lulla is taking over at Grey India at a time when it is in the midst of a grow-grow phase. On the global front, Grey was ranked as the agency of the year by adage.com for its revenue growth, client retention and the fact that it won almost all of the client pitches it made in 2013.

In India, Grey, the advertising network of the Grey Group, acquired a majority stake in rural and marketing communications services provider RC&M just as the year was drawing to a close.

It has done well on the awards front too, both in traditional and digital advertising.  It can be noted that Grey India picked up a Gold Lion at the Cannes this year in the Press category for the work done for P&G’s Duracell Batteries.

Indiantelevision.com’s Priyanka Nair got in touch with Grey Group Asia Pacific CEO Nirvik Singh to chat with him about the leadership change in India, and what he expects going forward.

    Excerpts:

With Sunil Lulla coming on board, what are the areas in which Grey India is looking at expanding?

We have been investing in India continually and with RC&M coming under our fold, I believe we have the right expertise and capabilities currently across the full marketing spectrum. Sunil Lulla would play a critical role in integrating and strengthening our offering.

In the 30 years of experience that Sunil Lulla has, he has been associated with the broadcast side of the business most. How do you think his expertise will help in the growth of Grey India?

With his 30 years of working experience, Sunil brings with him a wealth of knowledge from the media side of the business, not just broadcast. From our conversations, he has shown that he knows the heavily fragmented media landscape in South Asia in depth. By having him leading our operations in India, he is able to add a new dimension in our offering to our clients.

How has the year 2014 been so far for Grey India?

2014 has been really good for Grey Group, not just in India but across Asia Pacific as well. We are seeing clients in the market increasing their marketing spend with us, both regional and local clients. All in all, I expect India to be a really strong performer at year end. Malvika Mehra (National Creative Director) and team have been performing consistently as well – they have brought home yet another Gold Lion from the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity. This is their second year in a row they are doing so.

What are the plans lined up for the digital side of your business?

Sudhir Nair (Senior Vice President, Head of Grey Digital India) will be working closely with Sunil on this, but I must say our digital team has been stellar in their creative solutions and output (using Twitter to launch a car and YouTube for a test drive). Digital is definitely a big part of the picture and the continued investment in talent and capabilities is top of our priorities.

What is at top of your wish list for Grey India?

Win more Cannes Lions next year!

Till when will Jishnu Sen be with Grey India? Could you elaborate on the experience of working with him?

It has been a truly great journey – I have seen him grow into the CEO’s role and he is a great chap to work with.

MSM launches multi-media marketing campaign to promote LIVSports.in

MUMBAI: Multi Screen Media (MSM) has launched an integrated marketing campaign for its newly launched digital sports entertainment brand – LIV Sports (www.LIVSports.in). The campaign aims at creating awareness about LIV Sports and positioning it as a premier action and entertainment packed digital sports entertainment destination, across youth-focused media and to highlight that the 2014 FIFA World Cup matches will be streamed on www.LIVSports.in.

The campaign has been derived on the basis of a consumer behavior study that reveals that today’s screen agnostic youth are riveted to multiple screens and devices all the time.

The marketing strategy is inspired by the well established truth that today’s youth, that is always glued to social media has acquired the personalised “Me, Myself and I” tag. Hence the campaign idea –‘I, Me and My LIVSports.in!’

LIV Sports has rolled out a 60-seconder Graffiti based TVC that emphasises on the brand’s unique selling points. Conceptualised by Havas Worldwide, the ads are extension to the key concept – I, Me and My LIVSports.in!’

Sony Entertainment Network executive vice-president – new media, business development and digital/syndication Nitesh Kripalani said, “We have based our communications approach on several studies, that reflects that today’s tech savvy youth are always connected and spend most of their times on their smart phones, tablets and other screens, irrespective of where they are or whom they are with. Live sports is enjoyed together with friends, hence we have also included multiple engagements that will allow users to play/compete with their friends. We are excited about the campaign; the on-ground execution will target specific product features and enable maximum outreach.”

The brand building campaign is currently running on the MSM Network channels and will be activated across multiple youth-focused media avenues including on-air, outdoor, radio, in-cinema advertising, digital marketing, social media and BTL activities.

“The look and feel of the commercials has been specially crafted in a way that appeals to the youth, right from the graffiti art to the jingle,” added Kripalani.

The campaign leverages LIV Sports key offering to its consumers – making available quality content that is mass inclusive and not designed to cater only to ardent sports fans. The digital destination will showcase live and video-on-demand sports content, rich and informative world-class sporting data and analytics in a fun, engaging and entertaining way through games like ‘Mohit Bana Messi – Jerseyfy Me’ and ‘Pehchaan Kaun.’

Grey Digital has created the interface for the portal as well the accompanying mobile and tablet app.

“Given that most of the youth today are obsessed with their smartphones and tablets, they have all acquired the ‘Me, Myself and I’ tag. We tapped into this with a simple premise – if you are going to spend that much time on your devices, there’s no better way to enjoy watching sports and entertainment than LIVSports.in.  It’s packed in so many unique features you’ll always want to spend time on it,” said Havas Worldwide executive creative director Vivek Rao explaining the creative strategy behind the campaign.

“The graffiti art is a funky visual style to depict the various features and demonstrate what you could spend your time on,” he added.

Havas Worldwide president- west and south Shavon Barua commented, “The campaign speaks to today’s ‘screenagers’; the screen agnostic youth of India who keep switching between multiple screens at ease. Since this is a launch campaign, our approach is to highlight the unique features of LIVSports.in in a creative style that the ‘screenagers’ will identify with. The premise of our story-telling expresses how LIV Sports brings the ‘screenager’s’ screen to life touching upon the aspects of engagement, personalisation and Sports-Entertainment!”

The digital surround for LIVSports is handled by Grey Digital. “LIVSports.in is not meant for just avid sport buffs, but also those who look at sports as a means of entertainment. The fun engagements on the portal will pique their imagination. The campaign will be promoted through select display and sustained use of social channels,” concluded Grey Digital senior vice-president and head Sudhir Nair.
