MUMBAI: Zee News editor-in-chief Sudhir Chaudhary has received a threat call from Pakistan to stop exposing the nefarious design of 'Islamic Jihadists’, IANS reported quoting channel’s statement.

Says a Zee News official statement: “A Pakistani man made a WhatsApp call from 92-3338831245 to Chaudhary and threatened him to stop his shows against Jihadi elements in India or else face dire consequences. The calls were accompanied by threatening WhatsApp messages and images from other Pakistani numbers – 92-3057625175, 92-3479589959 and 92-3338831245.”

The caller also revealed that he knew about the FIR filed in Kerala against Chaudhry's show and threatened that similar FIRs will be filed in many other places, reports IANS.

Chaudhary hosts a prime-time show called Daily News Analysis (DNA), during which he analyses a news topic that has been buzzing through the day. On 11 March, the TV anchor ran a show explaining the types of 'jihads' in the Muslim community, which is the likely cause behind the FIR.

In this regard, Chaudhary has filed complaint with Delhi Police Commissioner SN Shrivastava and Gautam Budh Nagar Commissioner of Police Alok Singh.

WION focuses on HSM, starts Hindi audio feed

MUMBAI: English news network World Is One News (WION), spearheaded by Sudhir Chaudhary, has started the Hindi audio option on viewers’ demand. The Zee-owned channel provides global stories with the Indian perspective.

This is the first time in India that a news channel is providing dual audio feed to its viewers, which may get substantial traction from the elite Hindi-speaking market (HSM).

Speaking on the occasion, Sudhir Chaudhary, editor-in-chief of WION, said, “This move has been in the pipeline for quite some time now and we are extremely happy that finally we are able to give our viewers global stories in the language they love. The thought behind this was why Hindi-speaking audiences should be deprived of good international stories. This step will help us reach viewers who have been wanting to watch global news but, due to the language barrier, they were not able to. Though we have just started, we are confident that our viewers would take yet another innovation by WION in good stride and we shall be able to connect with people who until now were fence sitters.”

Apart from India, the channel operates in countries such as Australia, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Nigeria and Kenya.

Looking at how viewers’ tastes and preferences have evolved over the years, this move has the potential to strengthen the channel’s credibility as the go-to source of global news in India.

  • Sudhir Chaudhary elevated as editor-in-chief of Zee News, Zee Business, WION & DNA

MUMBAI: Is it merit, Hobson’s choice, or simply loyalty? Operating on the growth path and to strengthen its leadership team, Zee Business, an arm of Zee Media Corporation, has elevated Sudhir Chaudhary to the editor-in-chief position for Zee News, Zee Business, WION and DNA.

He will report to Zee Media group COO Rajiv Singh. Respective editorial teams will report to Chaudhary who seems to be gaining prominence faster than normal course.

After the exit of Amish Devgan, the channel was looked after by Samir Ahluwalia, who was appointed as the editor for Zee Business in May 2016 and deputy editor Mihir Bhatt.

Accused in Rs 100-crore extortion case against industrialist Naveen Jindal, Ahluwalia called it a day in Zee Media in September 2016. Several rumours had surfaced about Bhatt being elevated to the role of the channel head but he now seems to be losing favour with the senior management. The search for Zee Business’ head continued since, until this development.

Asheet Kunal has been given the interim charge of India 24×7 editor surpassing Vasindra Mishra, who earlier served as the editor of Zee Media’s national Hindi news channel. Kunal will continue reporting to Jagdeesh Chandra. The group has re-designated Mishra as the political editor for regional channels and will report to Chandra.

Chandra was recently appointed as the executive director of Zee Media’ regional news channels. He also takes care of Essel Group’s newspaper DNA as the CEO.

Non-bailable FIR by Mamata Banerjee against Zee News & Sudhir Chaudhary

MUMBAI: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has filed a non-bailable FIR against Zee News and its reporter Sudhir Chaudhary for daring to openly air the communal rampage which took place in her backyard.

Chaudhary wrote on Facebook: “Just to inform all of you Mamta Banerjee Govt has filed an FIR against me and Zee News reporter Pooja Mehta and cameraperson Tanmay Mukherjee for covering Dhulagarh Riots on Zee News. The FIR has non-bailable sections which is enough to gauge their intentions to arrest me and my colleagues. Pooja Mehta is just 25 and got the taste of Mamta’s intolerance so early in life in the form of a non bailable FIR.

The message goes on to say: “This is what a young girl reporter is getting to learn from a woman Chief Minister who claims to be the champion of democracy. It’s another low point in our democracy to see a democratically elected government using police force to curb media in an effort to suppress uncomfortable facts and reality. When you can’t manage media, use the state machinery to conquer the media only to conceal the failures of your administration. It shows the intolerance of a chief minister who is using the state machinery as her personal fiefdom and acting like a feudal lord. I see the positive side of this blunder as a window for all free minds of this nation to act and show fascist forces their actual place. Or will once again Selfish Politics prevail? That’s my fear. #IntolerantMamta”

A few days ago Dhulagarh in Howrah district of West Bengal, located some 30 odd kilometers from the state’s capital was rocked by communal violence. While Hindus of the town were busy with Margashirsha Poornima festivities on 13 December, the Muslims formed a procession, blaring loud music, ostensibly claiming to celebrate Milad-un-Nabi, which actually fell the day before and was a public holiday. A simple request by Hindus to lower the volume of the loudspeakers provoked the Muslims into a frenzy of riot and arson. Hindu homes and shops were set ablaze and scores of Hindus were forced to flee. Locals reported that the Muslims who rioted at Dhulagarh were not locals but had come from outside specifically with the purpose of ousting Hindus. As per news reports, the police party sent to put an end to the riot was stopped by the rioters and bombs were hurled at it.

This is not the first case in recent times of a TV channel getting the axe for reporting the truth. Earlier, it was NDTV India faced a one-day black-out imposed by the Union Government for airing content regarding Pathankot strike that it felt could have aided the terrorists and imperiled the lives of security men and their families.
