    Viacom18 promotes Soumen Ray as CFO; appoints Narayan Rajan as chief of staff

    MUMBAI: Viacom18 has appointed Narayan Ranjan to a new and strategic role of Viacom 18 chief of staff. In his new role, Narayan Ranjan would be responsible for mergers & acquisition, internal audit, internal control as well as the admin function while continuing work on improving group level governance.

    Viacom18 has also promoted Soumen Ray as the Chief Financial Officer of the company. Soumen joined as the Deputy CFO at Viacom18 in 2013 and has played a pivotal role in the company’s growth trajectory. Both the managerial changes have been made with effect from April 15, 2016.

    Commenting on the management restructuring, Viacom18 Group CEO Sudhanshu Vats said, “With a 30X growth in topline since inception, we are one of India’s fastest growing M&E companies. As we gear up for a more streamlined growth phase, it is imperative to align our corporate functions so that we can leverage both the experience and the expertise that our leaders possess. Narayan Ranjan, one of our more experienced and senior leaders, will now take on a more strategically aligned role that streamlines our business and administrative processes across the ever-growing brands of Viacom18. Soumen Ray, who as the Deputy CFO, has been pivotal in streamlining the network’s financial performance, will now take over as the Chief Financial Officer.”

    Ranjan had joined Viacom18 twelve years back to head the finance function after having successfully managed critical roles within the broadcast industry and outside and was part of the team that forged this JV back in 2007. He has been a recipient of numerous awards including the “CFO100” awards in 2016 and 2015; winner of 100 “Most Influential CFOs in India” award in 2015 and the “Best Finance Team of the Year” award in 2015 by Chartered Institute of management accountants.

    With close to 2 decades of experience in financial planning, Soumen Ray had joined Viacom18 three years ago after successful stints at HUL, ITC and Eveready Industries. A Chartered Accountant by qualification, Ray has played a pivotal role in the network’s meteoric growth, over the last few years.

    Mullen Lintas wins creative mandate of Viacom 18’s VOOT

    MUMBAI  As it gears up for the consumer launch of its advertising led VOD platform VOOT, Viacom18 has appointed Mullen Lintas, the advertising agency of the Mullen Lowe Lintas Group as its creative partner.

    The agency’s mandate would be to provide strategic recommendations pertaining to marketing and promotion of the brand and also provide ideas that go beyond conventional advertising.

    Commenting on the appointment, Viacom18 Digital Ventures COO Gaurav Gandhi said, “As we set out to launch a new brand in this space, we needed a creative partner who could not only help in building a distinct positioning for VOOT, but also bring-to-life key facets of our product and content proposition in the campaigns. Our choice for Mullen Lintas is not only because of the fantastic credentials of the agency, but also the very deep consumer insights and creative edge that the team brings with it.”

    Expressing his views on the immense scope that the brand presents,  Mullen Lintas chairman and CCO Amer Jaleel said, “We are delighted to partner Viacom 18 for their high-decibel launch of VOOT.     Content on VOOT will be classified based on genres such as reality, comedy, drama, kids and other segments and has been formatted based on a year’s research on what people watch on digital video platforms.

    4th edition of IAA Leadership Awards to the best in respective industry

    MUMBAI: The 4th edition of IAA  Leadership Awards was a glorious affair where the who’s who of the marketing, advertising and media industry got together to facilitate the best work amongst their peers and recognise the stalwarts who are leading their teams best in this dynamic ecosystem.  Union Minister of States of Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju was the chief guest and presented the awards to the best creative minds.

    The evening also lent itself to many learnings and forward thinking discussions for the industry at large. Viacom 18 group CEO Sudhanshu Vats in his opening address defined the three ‘I’s and an ‘A’ as ‘ Inference’, ‘influence’, ‘intuition’ and ‘agility’. Elucidating, Vats said a great leader must infer from the emerging trends that he sees around, must take his contacts and networking seriously and be ready to influence with the resources he has at his disposal, be intuitive with the current changing dynamics and be able to translate his judgement into action quickly.

    Speaking on the occasion, IAA’s India Chapter   president Srinivasan K Swamy said, “The IAA Leadership Awards are testimony of the inspirational work that industry leaders and creative minds accomplish during the course of the year. Today, we are celebrating the extraordinary work and journey of the industry at large from the year gone by. The campaigns have achieved much success in the brand’s positioning and perception. I congratulate the winners and hope to see such incredible work for years to come.”

    Seconding him, IAA Leadership Awards committee chairman Sam Balsara said, “This year, at the 4th IAA Leadership Awards, we have seen some tough competition that has been carried out by teams across industries. The decision-making process has been robust and after deep deliberation, we have finally arrived on the list of winners who have been honoured today. As the evening draws to a close, I would like to extend my heartiest congratulations to the winners and look forward to some great work from them in coming years”.

    While Aditya Birla Group CEO Kumar Mangalam Birla took away the CEO of the Year award, ICICI Prudential digital business and marketing EVP and head Manish Dubey, Hindustan Unilever;s Samir Singh, Lenovo marketing director Bhaskar Choudhuri and  Maruti Suzuki’s Randhir Singh Kalsi were amongst the few who won the much coveted The Marketer of the Year Awards that were given away  in 14 categories. Birla credited his win to his impeccable team which is forward thinking and intuitive to the market changes.

    Dentsu Aegis Network South Asia CEO and chairman Ashish Bhasin was awarded with The Media Agency Head of the Year Award. Sharing his joy for being acknowledged for the hard work, Bhasin added, “As late entrants in the industry, it gives me immense joy and pride in the organization’s efforts. We sort of challenged the market with a target to be the second best in the field by 2017. Acknowledgements  such as this from such a  well recognised body makes me feel that we are on the right track and gives us the confidence to move forward.”

    Upon bagging the Creative Agency Head of The Year, BBDO India chairman and CCO, Josy Paul said, “”This is not just a leadership award, it’s a leadership ‘team’ award. I am receiving it on behalf of my partner Ajai Jhala and the amazing leaders at BBDO India who create the outstanding work that gives me this moment of glory. I share it with them. I’m nothing without them.”

    In television, Colors CEO Raj Nayak was awarded the Media Person of the year, while India TV chairman and editor in chief Rajat Sharma was recognised as the Television Anchor of the Year. In the special categories, Bharat Patel was included in the Hall of Fame, while actor Varun Dhawan was awarded as the Brand Endorser of The Year.

    The 4th edition of the IAA Leadership Awards recognized the achievements of diverse groups of individuals for their incredible contribution in designing path-breaking and high impact marketing initiatives to strengthen their respective brand’s promise and standing amongst  consumers.

    Congratulating the winners,  Rijiju said, “I am impressed with how the evening and awards have been conceived. IAA is an important body when it comes to championing the marketers. As India is taking its rightful place in the world, the marketing and advertising world is catapulting India even faster. A decade ago, we used to have respect but we were never perceived as leaders.     Viacom18’s Sudhanshu Vats appointed as chairman of IBF Credit and Collections Committee

    MUMBAI:  The Indian Broadcasting Foundation (IBF) announced the appointment of Viacom18 group CEO Sudhanshu Vats as the chairman of the IBF Credit and Collections Committee & co-chairman of the joint IBF- AAAI sub-committee.

    IBF, in association with AAAI (Advertising Agencies Association of India), had formed a joint credit collections committee which scrutinizes, regulates and evaluates the credit worthiness of the advertiser’s active through AAAI member advertising agencies on IBF member channels. It plays a pivotal role in dispute resolution between channels and agencies vis-a-vis advertisers.
    Vats, also an IBF Board member stated, “I am delighted to have been entrusted with this responsibility. Strengthening our relationship with the advertisers would be our goal and I look forward to introducing newer mechanisms in line with the global standards, to normalize the revenue mechanisms for all parties.”

    The outgoing chairman I Venkat said, “I know Sudhanshu would bring his ethos and greater clarity in the functioning of the committee. I am thankful to all the members for their support and  their valuable contribution and also to Ashish Bhasin , the co- chairman of the committee,  AAAI  who helped me conduct these meetings in a more organised and transparent manner”.

     Speaking on Vats appointment, IBF President Uday Shankar said, ”Both Mr Vats and Mr Venkat have been valuable colleagues in the IBF board and both deserve admiration and appreciation for taking up the task of revamping the broadcaster’s ad revenue flow. I am sure Sudhanshu will bring greater efficacy and democracy to the functioning of the committee.”

    Naseeruddin Shah pledges support for Film Preservation and Restoration Workshop India 2016

    MUMBAI: After having accomplished a successful inaugural edition of an academic initiative focused on Film Preservation and Restoration last year, this year the Film Heritage Foundation in association with Viacom18 have once again joined hands with an aim to save and uphold the legacy of India’s cinematic heritage. 

    The inaugural event, which was held in the National Film Archive of India in Pune saw support from film industry stalwarts such as actor par excellence Naseeruddin Shah who was the Guest of Honor. At the inaugural event, filmmaker and archivist – Shivendra Singh Dungarpur and Chairman CII National Committee on Media & Entertainment & Group CEO Viacom18 Media Pvt- Sudhanshu Vats addressed the audience about the need to preserve India’s rich filmic legacy.

     The workshop titled ‘Film Preservation & Restoration Workshop India 2016’will take place from February 25th to March 6th in Pune and will involve lectures, presentations and practical classes that will be conducted by leading international experts in the field, for cinema enthusiasts who want to learn in-depth knowledge of the subject.

     Naseerudin Shah, in support of the Film Preservation and Restoration Workshop said “It is a matter of great pride for me to be here. On behalf of the entire film fraternity, I would like to thank Shivendra for this initiative. I am very proud that there are 50 films of mine in the archive list here. I can’t thank P.K. Nair Saab enough because he has inspired a generation of youngsters to follow him in his footsteps.”

     Extending support to this unique initiative, CII National Committee on Media & Entertainment chairman & Group CEO Viacom18 Media Sudhanshu Vats said “What are we doing to leave behind a cinematic legacy for the younger generations? We need to preserve our films not just for the joy of entertainment but for safeguarding the ideas that help us learn about our cultural heritage. We at Viacom 18 feel honored to be a part of this initiative. I was convinced from the beginning because I believed in Shivendra and his passion for cinema. The movement has to grow now and I am sure it will when everyone comes together to work towards the cause. This year, the workshop is more advanced and intensive with greater focus on film archiving. NFAI agreed to open the doors for us this year. We have big plans and we wish to build an army of film archivists. Funding and technology are essential but we need educated skilled people as well. Film preservation is not a business; it is love… love for cinema. Mr. Sudhanshu Vats and the entire Viacom18 team – I cannot thank them enough. Sudhanshu had the foresight and believed in our vision and today we are celebrating our second year. Here’s to many more years of celebrating and trying to conserve India’s cinematic heritage together.”

    With a mix of technical workshops on the craft of preservation and lectures specially designed by David Walsh, Head of the FIAF Technical Commission, there will also be a daily screening of a restored classic preceded by an introductory talk on the restoration. One of the USP’s of this initiative, this year is that Thelma Ross from the Museum of Modern Art, New York will be conducting sessions in the specialized field of documentation and cataloguing.

    MUMBAI: After having accomplished a successful inaugural edition of an academic initiative focused on Film Preservation and Restoration last year, this year the Film Heritage Foundation in association with Viacom18 have once again joined hands with an aim to save and uphold the legacy of India’s cinematic heritage. 

    The inaugural event, which was held in the National Film Archive of India in Pune saw support from film industry stalwarts such as actor par excellence Naseeruddin Shah who was the Guest of Honor. At the inaugural event, filmmaker and archivist – Shivendra Singh Dungarpur and Chairman CII National Committee on Media & Entertainment & Group CEO Viacom18 Media Pvt- Sudhanshu Vats addressed the audience about the need to preserve India’s rich filmic legacy.

     The workshop titled ‘Film Preservation & Restoration Workshop India 2016’will take place from February 25th to March 6th in Pune and will involve lectures, presentations and practical classes that will be conducted by leading international experts in the field, for cinema enthusiasts who want to learn in-depth knowledge of the subject.

     Naseerudin Shah, in support of the Film Preservation and Restoration Workshop said “It is a matter of great pride for me to be here. On behalf of the entire film fraternity, I would like to thank Shivendra for this initiative. I am very proud that there are 50 films of mine in the archive list here. I can’t thank P.K. Nair Saab enough because he has inspired a generation of youngsters to follow him in his footsteps.”

     Extending support to this unique initiative, CII National Committee on Media & Entertainment chairman & Group CEO Viacom18 Media Sudhanshu Vats said “What are we doing to leave behind a cinematic legacy for the younger generations? We need to preserve our films not just for the joy of entertainment but for safeguarding the ideas that help us learn about our cultural heritage.
