    Succession leads the 74th Emmy Awards with 25 nominations

    Mumbai: Nominations for the 74th Emmy Awards that celebrate the best of American television were announced. Succession holds this year’s top spot with 25 Emmy nominations followed by Ted Lasso and The White Lotus (20), Hacks and Only Murders in the Building (17) and Euphoria (16).

    Warner Bros. Discovery got 155 total nominations and Disney got 141 nominations. Television Academy chairman & CEO Frank Scherma said, “Television continues to keep the world entertained, informed, and connected. With production at a historic high, the Academy has received a record number of Emmy submissions this season. As we prepare for the entertainment industry’s biggest night, we are thrilled to honour the innovators, creators, performers and storytellers who are propelling this platinum age of television.”

    It was a year of notable achievement for women. Almost half of the directors nominated in the scripted directing categories were women. This season also saw women receive almost 40 percent of the nominations in the scripted writing categories. 34 percent of this year’s nominees for outstanding writing in all related-categories were women. In total, there were 50 first-time performer nominees across all performer categories this season including Chadwick Boseman (What If…?), Jennifer Coolidge (The White Lotus), Elle Fanning (The Great), Andrew Garfield (Under the Banner of Heaven), Jung Ho-yeon (Squid Game)  and Sydney Sweeney (two first-time nominations, Euphoria and The White Lotus).

    In addition to Sweeney, individuals with multiple nominations this year include Jason Bateman (performance and directing for Ozark), Quinta Brunson (performance and writing for Abbott Elementary), Nicole Byer (host for Nailed It today).

    Shradha Agarwal named as Grapes CEO

    Mumbai: Integrated marketing agency Grapes has elevated Shradha Agarwal to the position of chief executive officer. She takes the baton from Himanshu Arya, who will move to a more strategic role within Grapes. 

    Agarwal’s role will be instrumental in leading and expanding the business for the company while overseeing the overall operations, across the agency’s three offices in India – Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore, said the company in a statement. 

    She will be based out of the agency’s headquarter in Delhi and will manage the overall business and operations of the company, it added.

    “In 2015, Shradha joined me and we launched Grapes Digital, now Grapes, and since then there has been no looking back,” said Grapes founder Himanshu Arya, speaking on the appointment. “She has been key to the agency’s success. While leading the strategic planning function at Grapes, she has also been instrumental in laying down goals and the approach to both business and culture. Today our 200+ Grapes family comprises agile, eager and passionate performers. With Shradha taking the lead, her dedication and commitment will take us closer to the target of becoming a 500+ member strong team that will deliver path breaking creative solutions to drive huge impact for our clients.”

    With over a decade’s experience, Agarwal has a deep understanding of providing strategic direction, and providing end-to-end solutions to clients, according to the agency.

    Mumbai: Kansai Nerolac Paints Ltd (KNPL) has announced the appointment of Anuj Jain as the managing director, effective from 1 April. Jain succeeds H M Bharuka, who will be superannuating on 31 March.

    Jain joined KNPL in 1990 as a management trainee. In his tenure of over 30 years at the company, he has worked in various capacities across various functions and brings a wealth of experience. He has been on the board of KNPL in the capacity of executive director since 2018. 

    “I am deeply grateful to the board and Kansai Paints, Japan for giving me an opportunity to not just be a part but lead this esteemed organisation,” said Anuj Jain. “I look forward to continuing the rich history of this company and build on the legacy of Mr Bharuka to take the company to greater heights.

    Bharuka joined KNPL in 1985, becoming its managing director in April 2001. He featured amongst India’s Top 50 CEOs and was awarded a lifetime achievement award by the Indian Chemical Industry. He served as the first non-Japanese director on the board of Kansai Paints, Japan. He is also credited for leading KNPL’s expansion into the Indian subcontinent.

    “Bharuka was known for his visionary and bold leadership style which led to many firsts in the Indian paint industry. Under his leadership, KNPL won numerous accolades in a variety of areas notably the Golden Peacock Award for Corporate Governance, Best Managed Company by Business Today, Great Place to Work by GPTW and recognition as an ESG leader in India by CRISIL,” said the company in a statement.

    Haier India president Eric Braganza set to retire after 12-year stint

    Mumbai: Home appliances and  consumer electronics company Haier on Thursday announced that Eric Braganza will retire as president of India operations, effective 1 January. According to a statement, Braganza will continue to serve as a consultant with the brand along with his role as president of CEAMA (Consumer Electronics and Appliances Manufacturers Association).

    The brand further announced that its senior vice president of sales and marketing Satish NS will be taking over as president of the company from 1 January 2022.

    Under Braganza’s leadership, Haier India continued to record phenomenal YoY growth over the last few years to become one of the most prominent brands in the home appliances and consumer electronics industry. His management prowess proved instrumental during Haier’s expansion in India, playing a pivotal role in establishing partnerships with some of the largest national and regional retailers in the country, said the company in a statement. “Amongst his many contributions to the organisation was creating a strong and stable team of core members and promoting the spirit of micro-entrepreneurship in them to drive success for the brand in India. From defining the brand by breaking the category clutter in the market to introducing meaningful innovations in Haier’s product range specifically designed for Indian consumers, Braganza has been behind the brand’s success story in the country,” it added.

    Braganza is a veteran in the consumer durables industry who brings along an inspiring professional experience of over 35 years and has been spearheading the organisation since September 2009. In his role, Braganza has put the building blocks, talent, and strategies in place at Haier India that serve as the foundation for the company’s continued growth for the past 12 years in the consumer durables market in India.

    Mumbai: Eurosport’s SVP – affiliate sales and business head and media industry veteran Vijay Rajput on Friday announced his decision to move on from Discovery and retire on 31 December. 

    Ruchir Jain, who has been heading finance at Discovery- South Asia for over three years, will take over from Rajput to lead the distribution and Eurosport business.  

    “We at Discovery Inc would like to thank our supremely talented leader Vijay Rajput as he has decided to retire from the organisation. Vijay’s stellar contribution over the years has helped us in being at the pinnacle of factual broadcasting in India,” stated Discovery Inc managing director – South Asia Megha Tata. “Although it is hard to say goodbye, we once again thank him for inspiring us and wish him the absolute best for the next phase of his life.”

    “Elated about Ruchir taking up the role where he designs the next chapter of growth ahead,” Tata further said.

    Rajput’s career that spread over 39 years, kicked off at Discovery over seven years back where he was instrumental in the setup and driving year-on-year growth of the network in India. His endeavors included that of the network establishing itself in sports broadcast while laying extraordinary spotlight towards speeding up Discovery’s main goal of staying the best real-life entertainment network in the country.

    Sanjiv Mehta named FICCI president for 2021-22

    Mumbai: The Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) has announced that Hindustan Unilever Ltd (HUL) chairman and MD Sanjiv Mehta will succeed veteran media executive Uday Shankar as president of the association. The appointment will be effective on 18 December.
     
    Mehta is presently officiating as FICCI senior VP. He will be holding the office as president for the year 2021-22.
     
    “During his eight years at the helm, HUL’s market capitalisation has increased by over $55 billion making it one of the most valuable companies in the country. In this period, HUL has won several awards and recognitions including the prestigious Economic Times ‘Company of the Year’ and ‘Corporate Citizen of the Year’ awards, Business Standard’s ‘Company of the year’ award and the ‘Best Governed Company’ award by the Asian Centre for Corporate Governance and Sustainability,” said the industry body in a press statement.

    Besides leading HUL, Mehta is also a director on the board of the Indian School of Business, a member of the Breach Candy Hospital Trust, and the South Asia Advisory Board of Harvard Business School. He chairs Xynteo’s Vikaasa, a coalition of top Indian and MNC companies.

    Last year, Uday Shankar took over the top position in the industry body from Sangita Reddy who is Apollo Hospitals Group’s joint MD. At the time of his appointment, Shankar was The Walt Disney Company’s APAC president of operations and Star & Disney India chairman. He stepped down from his position at Walt Disney before holding office at FICCI.

    Himanshu Shekhar to lead in Vietnam at GroupM

    Mumbai: GroupM has announced that Himanshu Shekhar, currently CEO of GroupM Indonesia, will lead the organisation’s Vietnam business.

    He succeeds Neil Hardwick, who is returning to the UK to take up a new role outside WPP, said the company in a statement.

    “Himanshu is an exceptional leader with a phenomenal track record,” stated GroupM’s APAC CEO Ashutosh Srivastava. “He is a hands-on leader who is passionate about this business, builds trusted relationships with clients, and always puts people and culture first.”

    Shekhar has been based in Indonesia since March 2010 when he joined as the managing director for Mindshare’s business with Unilever. He was later promoted to CEO of Mindshare Indonesia in December 2011. Whilst at the helm of Mindshare Indonesia, he delivered consistently strong growth for the agency and positioned Mindshare as the market leader in digital transformation. In 2018, he was promoted to his current position, GroupM Indonesia CEO.

    Shekhar said he is excited to take up the role and looks forward to working closely with clients, teams, and media partners in Vietnam to unlock strong and sustainable growth.
