    HBO Max Southeast Asia & India MD Amit Malhotra moves on

    Mumbai: HBO Max Southeast Asia and India managing director Amit Malhotra has stepped down from his role and is no longer associated with the company. The development was confirmed by WarnerMedia on Monday.

    Malhotra joined WarnerMedia in June and was spearheading the rollout and management of WarnerMedia’s direct-to-consumer platform in Southeast Asia including India.

    Malhotra is a media and entertainment industry veteran who has more than 25 years of experience under his belt and was part of the board of directors at Asia Video Industry Association and Infocomm Media Development Authority.

    He previously served as regional lead for Disney+ in Southeast Asia, where he was responsible for overseeing the launch and operations of Disney’s streaming services in the region, including Disney+, Disney+ Hotstar and Hotstar. He was associated with The Walt Disney Company for 17 years.

    ABP CEO & MD Dipankar Das Purkayastha steps down

    NEW DELHI: Dipankar Das Purkayastha has decided to step down as the chief executive officer & managing director of the Anand Bazaar Patrika (ABP) Group. He has been associated with the iconic West Bengal media house for over four decades.

    The company has released a statement saying, “We take this opportunity to record our appreciation for the services he has rendered to the company. He is a visionary and a legend in our pantheon. He has made the company ready to meet the challenges of the future.”

    After joining ABP in August 1979, Purkayastha has seen the company scale great success – spawning multiple print publications, national TV news channels, a publishing house as well as mobile and internet properties. He also led the media giant through periods of great tumult, marked by downsizing, mass lay-offs and conflict with the ruling dispensation in the state.

    Deputy CEO Dhruba Mukherjee will take over the reins from Purkayastha with effect from 1 April 2021

    Akul Tripathi steps down from Epic Channel

    MUMBAI: Akul Tripathi has stepped down as COO of IN10 Media Network, announced the network. Tripathi joined as head of content and programming for EPIC Channel in 2017 and is also CEO of DocuBay, the only global video-on-demand platform for streaming premium documentaries. He he is moving on to pursue his twin passions for creating content and traveling.

    IN10 Media Network managing director Aditya Pittie said: “Akul has played an instrumental role in the repositioning of EPIC Channel and has been at the heart of our growth from a single channel to a media network. As CEO of DocuBay, he has helped build a promising and differentiated global brand for the network. We wish him the best for his future endeavours.”

    He has over 20 years of experience in the business of content creation, curation, and management. Previously he served as head of content and programming for EPIC Television Networks, which is known for airing premium India-centric content.

    He has served as director at ThoughtShop, founding partner at Jumpstart Outdoors, and associate creative with Taurus Video. Tripathi started his career with Brandish Media & Entertainment as content and creative head.

    He holds a masters in broadcast and film management from Bournemouth University and bachelors of mass media, journalism from Mumbai University.

    Barkha Dutt to step down as NDTV group editor

    MUMBAI: After a stint spanning two decades, Barkha Dutt is now stepping down from her post as NDTV group editor to set up her own multimedia content company and policy group.

     

    Dutt will continue as consulting editor for the news network and will continue as host of her two on-going shows namely The Buck Stops Here (daily) and We The People (weekly).

     

    In an email to its employees, a copy of which is with Indiantelevision.com, New Delhi Television founders Prannoy and Radhika Roy wrote, “She (Barkha) will also be available as always for analysis and inputs on big news events and stories. While her TV relationship with NDTV remains unchanged, in her new role she will be setting up her own multimedia content company and policy group. We have literally seen Barkha grow from a child to an adult professional and look forward to our close bonds only strengthening further as she embarks on this new venture.”

     

    Having made her name reporting the war in Kargil, Dutt became one of NDTV’s most prominent faces as it went from a content provider for Doordarshan in its early days to being a media conglomerate that it is today.

     

    Dutt was 23 years old when she joined NDTV as a young reporter cum producer. Having won several awards in her 20 year stint with the channel, Dutt has worn several hats like: journalist, anchor and editor.
