  • Star World exits & AXN enters Top 5 list, Sony Pix slips two slots

    MUMBAI: Star World exited and AXN entered the top five English entertainment channels’ list. In the lifestyle and English Movies genre, players saw mixed ratings as Sony Pix slipped two slots according to BARC week 21.

    English Entertainment

    Comedy Central HD emerged on the number one position with 277 Impressions (000s) sum climbing from 184 Impressions (000s) sum in BARC Week 20. Zee Cafe bagged the second position with 269 Impressions (000s) sum followed by AXN which made an entry into the Top 5 with 179 Impressions (000s) sum. 

    FX with 139 Impressions (000s) sum came at the fourth position. Colors Infinity SD stood at the fifth spot with a fall in ratings with 127 Impressions (000s) sum as compared to 144 Impressions (000s) sum last week.

    Infotainment

    History TV18 pocketed the first position with 4335 Impressions (000s) sum as compared to 4015 Impressions (000s) sum last week followed by Discovery Channel with 3724 Impressions (000s) sum. 

    National Geographic Channel and Animal Planet achieved third and fourth positions respectively with 2631 Impressions (000s) sum and 2614 Impressions (000s) sum.

    Although retaining the fifth position, Nat Geo Wild’s ratings fell with 2600 Impressions (000s) sum as compared to 2769 Impressions (000s) sum last week.

    Lifestyle

    FYI TV18 almost doubled its  ratings eventually emerging at the numero uno position with 1452 Impressions (000s) sum as compared to 738 Impressions (000s) sum last week. Living Foodz and Food Food took second and third spots this time, respectively, with 1273 Impressions (000s) sum and 736 Impressions (000s) sum. 

    Fox Life with 564 Impressions (000s) sum bagged the fourth position followed by TLC with 524 Impressions (000s) sum.

    English Movies

    With an increase in ratings, Star Movies hopped to the number one position with 3253 Impressions (000s) as compared to 2799 Impressions (000s) sum in week 20. 

    Movies Now achieved the second position with 2201 Impressions (000s) sum and Sony Pix slipped with 1974 Impressions (000s) sum to the third position. Movies Now 2 and HBO interchanged their positions and came fourth and fifth spot this time, respectively, with 1970 Impressions (000s) sum and 1962 Impressions (000s) sum.

  • Star World & AXN gain significantly while Comedy Central & Animal Planet slip awfully

    MUMBAI: Comedy Central exited and Star World entered the top five English entertainment channels’ list in BARC week 18 viewership ratings even as Zee Cafe continued to dominate the genre. 

    Players in the infotainment genre saw a mixed rating as Animal Planet slipped two slots but National Geographic Channel and Nat Geo Wild climbed a slot each, whereas, the lifestyle genre observed the entry of TLC this week. 

    English Entertainment

    Zee Cafe secured its number one position with a slight fall in the rating from 371 Impressions (000s) sum last week to 332 Impressions (000s) sum in BARC week 18. FX climbed a slot to the second position with 202 Impressions (000s) sum followed by AXN reaching third from the fifth position with 197 Impressions (000s) sum. 

    Star World made an entry into the Top 5 with 157 Impressions (000s) sum to the fourth position. Colors Infinity SD dropped to the fifth spot with 119 Impressions (000s) sum as compared to 219 Impressions (000s) sum last week.

    Infotainment

    History TV 18, with a hike in ratings, ranked at the first place with 4994 Impressions (000s) sum as compared to 4604 Impressions (000s) sum last week followed by Discovery Channel with 4875 Impressions (000s) sum. National Geographic Channel and Nat Geo Wild climbed a spot each at third and fourth positions with 2778 Impressions (000s) sum and 2610 Impressions (000s) sum, respectively.

    Animal Planet slipped two slots to the fifth position with 2405 Impressions (000s) sum as compared to 3040 Impressions (000s) sum last week.

    Lifestyle

    Witnessing a decent increase in the rating, Living Foodz retained its number one position with 2083 Impressions (000s) sum as compared to 1518 Impressions (000s) sum last week. Food Food and FYI TV18 interchanged their positions and came second and third spot this time, respectively, with 836 Impressions (000s) sum and 753 Impressions (000s) sum. Fox Life with 712 Impressions (000s) sum emerged at the fourth position which was followed by TLC, a new entry to Top 5 with 468 Impressions (000s) sum.

  • Star World to host first live GoT debate on Facebook

    MUMBAI: With season 7 set to launch soon, Game of Thrones fever has gripped the world yet again with fans speculating to see who will win the Iron Throne and who will die trying. Adding to this electrifying atmosphere, Star World will be hosting India’s first LIVE Game of Thrones debate on Facebook to answer the ultimate question “Who’s claim to the Throne is the strongest – Jon Snow, Cersei Lannister or Daenerys Targaryen?”.

    The nail-biting debate, which will be held on Star World’s official Facebook page on 24 April from 6pm onwards, promises to be a battle of wit and honour amongst diehard fans and India’s leading comedians Azeem Banatwalla, Sahil Shah, Rahul Hota and Mani Prasad. Moderated by Azeem, the debate will have Sahil, Rahul and Mani go head to head to support their favorite contenders claim to the Iron Throne – Jon, Daenerys and Cersei respectively. The trio will bust some theories, prove others and find new ones. Fans will get a chance to join in the action with their comments or reactions to support their favorite characters and some of the best arguments will also be read out live by Azeem. It’s time to revel in the complicated world of Westeros and take sides as the comedians turn the tables on each other in a battle field like no other.

    The debate is aimed at making fans #TakeACloser look into all that has transpired in the previous seasons of Game of Thrones before the new season launches in July. Star World and Star World HD will be airing seasons 1-6 starting 24 April, every Monday to Friday at10pm.

  • Barbie reaffirms ‘You can be anything’ with MasterChef on Star World

    MUMBAI: Barbie’s message of You Can Be Anything is going to spread far and wide, reaching out to moms and kids, with Barbie’s latest association as the presenting sponsor for popular TV series – MasterChef U.S. Junior season 5 that will air every Sunday at 9pm on Star World and Star World HD.

    Mattel India head of marketing Lokesh Kataria said, “Over the last year, Barbie has enabled young girls to unleash their imagination and unlock their aspirations to believe that they can be anything – from a doctor to a storyteller, a princess, a sportsperson or even a chef.     The integrated campaign will drive communication based on the concept of ‘Dads who play with Barbie’, showcasing what happens when real dads play Barbie with their daughters. The communication, which will air during MasterChef U.S. Junior season 5 on Star World and Star World HD, will promote play as well highlight that “Time Spent in Her Imaginary World Is an Investment in Her Real World,” emphasizing that a dad’s involvement in his daughter’s imaginary play contributes to her social, intellectual and emotional development in real life.

    Under the guidance of world renowned chefs and judges, Gordon Ramsay and Christina Tosi, MasterChef U.S. Junior season 5 selects young kids between ages of 8 to 13 and aims at honing their culinary aptitude. The contestants will have a platform to showcase their talent and create stunning dishes far beyond their age to win the coveted title of Junior MasterChef and the grand prize of $100,000.

  • MasterChef US Junior to premiere on Star World from 26 Mar

    MUMBAI: Star World and Star World HD will start airing the fifth season of MasterChef U.S. Junior starting 26 March at the prime time 9pm slot. The fifth season of the show, to be aired every Sunday, premiered in the US on 9 February this year with chefs — Gordon Ramsay and Christina Tosi acting as the series’ judges, along with various guest judges.

    MasterChef U.S. is based on the format of the U.K. series Junior MasterChef in which nine-to twelve-year-olds compete. MasterChef USA aims at selecting young kids between ages of 8 and 13 and honing their culinary aptitude. The contestants will have a platform to showcase their talent and create stunning dishes far beyond their age to win the coveted title of Junior MasterChef and the grand prize of $100,000.

    A Star India release stated that, this summer, it’s time for kids in India to hone some cooking skills by drawing inspiration from the junior chefs on MasterChef U.S. Junior Season 5.

  • Zee Cafe leads, FX replaces Colors Infinity in Top 5

    MUMBAI: Colors Infinity this week dropped out of the Top 5 English Entertainment genre channels’ list making way for the entry of FX. The other players observed mixed viewership this week. Zee Café dominated the genre.

    In the English Movies space, Movies Now 2 departed from the Top 5 bracket leading to the entry of Zee Studio. Players in the space also witnessed mixed ratings this week.

    According to the week 8 ratings data of Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC) India, History TV18 was at the number one position in the infotainment genre.

    Living Foodz continued to dominate the Lifestyle space, with the channels observing decrease in its ratings this week except TLC.

    English Entertainment

    Zee Café toppled Star World taking the first position with 275 Impressions (‘000s). Star World came to the second place with 232 Impressions (‘000s). Comedy Central sustained its third position with 230 Impressions (‘000s) whereas FX took the fourth place with 127 Impressions (‘000s). AXN continued at the fifth rank with 113 Impressions (‘000s).

    English Movies

    Star Movies dominated the genre this week with 2639 Impressions (‘000s) followed by Movies Now with 2636 Impressions (‘000s). Sony Pix with 1883 Impressions (‘000s) grabbed the third position followed by HBO at the fourth position with 1556 Impressions (‘000s). Zee Studio took the fifth place with 1320 Impressions (‘000s).

    Infotainment

    History TV18 hoped to the first spot with 5567 Impressions (‘000s).  Discovery Channel took the second spot with 4897 Impressions (‘000s). Animal Planet was at the third spot with 3082 Impressions (‘000s). National Geographic Channel stood at the fourth position with 2917 Impressions (‘000s) while, Nat Geo Wild was at the fifth place with 2851 Impressions (‘000s)

    Lifestyle

    Living Foodz sustained its number one position with decrease in its ratings from 1599 Impressions (‘000s) in week 7 to 1383 Impressions (‘000s) this week. Fox Life stood at the second berth with 946 Impressions (‘000s) followed by FYI TV18 with 796 Impressions (‘000s). TLC with 643 Impressions (‘000s) and Food Food with 631 Impressions (‘000s) bagged the fourth and fifth position, respectively.

    After launching a deadly missile at Angelo, Lucious announces his new music project, Inferno, and puts everyone on notice – especially Cookie, who then vows to knock him off his throne for good. The two engage in an epic clash – fueled by a history of love, loyalty and betrayal.

    MUMBAI: In line with its ambition to expand and accelerate growth in India through new investment and leadership, Discovery Networks has appointed Vikram Tanna as Vice President, Head of Advertising Sales and Business Head of Regional Clusters, South Asia. The current product suite has 11 unique content channels in the factual and lifestyle genres. Tanna takes over from Karamjit Dua who moves into a new role as head of new business and mergers and acquisitions in line with Discovery’s focus on inorganic growth opportunities in both linear and channel business with immediate effect.

    Tanna will be based out of Mumbai and will report to Karan Bajaj, SVP and GM-South Asia, Discovery Networks Asia Pacific. Tanna will further strengthen the company’s efforts towards building engaged local audience franchises and re-instate its omni-channel platform play.

He has grown in various roles at Star from heading revenue for Channel V, Star Digital & V Events. Prior to which, Tanna was the revenue lead for Zapak Digital Entertainment that operated the online gaming portal. Earlier in his career, he worked with MTV for two years and with Star Movies and Star World.

    Tanna has done MBA in marketing from Mumbai University and is a visiting faculty at management institutes in Mumbai.
