    MUMBAI: Viewers are in for a delectable treat as world renowned celebrity Chef Gordon Ramsay returns to the small screen along with celebrated American chef and television personality Aaron Sanchez and chef, author and television personality Christina Tosi in the latest season of MasterChef U.S. that will air on Star World starting tonight, every Monday to Friday at 9pm.

    With temperatures raising in the kitchen, the eighth edition of the popular series will present viewers with some immensely appetizing and high on drama moments. From spiced up challenges, to unexpected eliminations to renowned celebrity chefs making a guest appearance, the season is all set to get the gastronomes hooked to their television sets. Only the third person to have won three Catey awards, Chef Gordon Ramsay is known for his impeccable cooking style and his restaurants have been awarded 16 Michelin stars till date. Recipient of James Beard Award for Rising Star Chef of the Year and James Beard Award for Outstanding Pastry Chef, Christina is an American chef, author, television personality and owner of Momofuku Milk Bar. The most recent addition to the panel, Aaron Sanchez is a celebrated American chef and television personality.

    TED Talks India’s first episode garners 42.4 million reach

    MUMBAI: The inaugural episode of TED Talks India Nayi Soch, which aims to inspire people across the country with a new way of thinking, has received a rousing response across platforms when it premiered earlier this month. The first episode of the weekly show—which aired on Sunday, 10 December, 2017-was telecast across six channels (Star Plus, Star Pravah, Star World, Star Gold, Star Jalsa, and Movies OK) and garnered an aggregated reach of 42.4 million (Source : BARC All India 2+) on opening day.

    This, and the continuing momentum behind the seven-episode series, is borne by viewers’ reactions on social media as the show over two episodes so far has received over 140,000 mentions on social media from more than 31,000 unique users translating into over a billion impressions.

    “We are extremely pleased with the way TED Talks India Nayi Soch has been received by our audiences. The show appeals to the intellect and inspires people to think about and bring about change,” says Star India CEO Entertainment Amit Chopra. “The objective with this show is to inspire young minds and more so to encourage them to share more and more ideas. It’s very heartening to see the response.”

    Some of the innovations showcased in the first two episodes of TED Talks India Nayi Soch included Anirudh Sharma’s ink made from pollution particulates, Shubhendu Sharma, who quit his engineering job at Toyota to grow forests, Dr. Gautam Bhan’s work on rehabilitation and upgradation of slums. Also featured were outstanding personalities such as Javed Akhtar and Deepak Ramola.

    MUMBAI: Comedy Central retained its leadership despite a fall in the ratings in the English entertainment genre according to all-India BARC week 43 data. Movies Now emerged as the leader in the English movies genre.

    Sony BBC Earth made an entry in the top five infotainment channels’ list while Nat Geo Wild dropped out of the list.

    English Entertainment

    Comedy Central and Zee Cafe retained their first and second positions with 284 Impressions (000s) sum and 253 Impressions (000s) sum respectively.

    Star World and Colors Infinity SD placed third and fourth with 249 Impressions (000s) sum and 186 Impressions (000s) sum respectively.

    AXN retains its last position with a slight dip in the ratings with 125 Impressions (000s) sum as compared to last week’s 135 Impressions (000s) sum.

    English Movies

    Movies Now sits on top position with 2839 Impressions (000s) sum. Star Movies slips to the second position with 2810 Impressions (000s) sum.

    Sony Pix and MNX stood third and fourth in this week with 2747 Impressions (000s) sum and 2585 Impressions (000s) sum respectively.

    HBO retained its fifth position with 1904 Impressions (000s) sum.

    Infotainment

    Discovery channel and History TV 18 retained their first and second positions with 3699 Impressions (000s) sum and 3334 Impressions (000s) sum respectively.

    National Geographic Channel and Animal Planet replaced their third and fourth respectively with 2798 Impressions (000s) sum and 2781 Impressions (000s) sum.

    Sony BBC Earth emerged as a new entrant in the last position with 2611 Impressions (000s) sum.

    Lifestyle

    Living Foodz, Fox Life, FYI TV18, TLC and Food Food retained their first, second, third, fourth and fifth position respectively with 1361 Impressions (000s) sum, 848 Impressions (000s) sum, 764 Impressions (000s) sum 467 Impressions (000s) sum and 435 Impressions (000s) sum.

    MUMBAI: The double murder of Aarushi Talwar and Hemraj – parents acquitted, no new evidence, no new suspects – leaves many questions still unanswered.

    The Talwars – Behind Closed Doors is Star World’s first venture into investigative crime documentaries bringing its audience a pathbreaking series on the double homicide of 13-year old Aarushi Talwar and the Talwar’s domestic help Hemraj. This 4-part original series chronicles one of the most controversial trials of the century that baffled the nation as well as the police, the CBI and the Indian judiciary that will air on Star World & Hotstar beginning 26 November, every Sunday 10 pm.

    The series has been produced in association with HBO Asia and created by stellar team that comprises executive producer Sarah MacDonald, an acclaimed journalist and BAFTA winning documentary filmmaker. She has produced and directed documentaries for BBC and CNN. Her work includes groundbreaking investigations into child abuse and the Catholic Church and extraordinary rendition by the CIA, North Korea escapees. Also associated with the project is Miikka Leskinen, the Chief Editor, an award winning film editor credited with a vast body of work across film, documentary and television, garnering nearly a hundred awards including a Primetime Emmy along with Oscar and BAFTA nominations.

    Based one of the biggest and most talked about feuds in Hollywood “Feud: Bette and Joan” stars Oscar winning actors Susan Sarandon and Jessica Lange who ironically portray the roles of Oscar Winning actresses – Bette Davis and Joan Crawford respectively. The eight-episode mini-series recalls how Davis and Crawford struggled to hang on to fame in the twilight of their careers as they faced obstacles such as ageism, sexism and misogyny.     True Detective Seasons 1 and 2

  • Star World launches Game of Thrones season 7 with personalized posters

    MUMBAI: The great war is finally upon Westeros as the much anticipated first episode of Game of Thrones premiered on Star World last Tuesday at 11 PM. In order to promote the launch, Star World undertook a mammoth digital campaign to engage with fans. By tapping into current trends on social media and capitalizing on three focal crowd-pullers: selfies, user-generated content and customization, the brand opened doors to the Game of Thrones universe for Twitterati fans of the series.

    Undertaking a real time digital activity, Star World invited fans on Twitter to send in a selfie with the hashtag: #GOT7onSW which they then transformed into a personalized Game of Thrones season 7 campaign poster.

    The channel went on to receive a response that not only re-affirmed the cult status of the show but also love for the brand. Star World India trended worldwide and #GOTS7onSW trended in India for 11 hours with Star World receiving over 25,000 tweets. The fervor, however, didn’t stop as the activity garnered an estimated 161 million impressions with over 3000 personalized posters being rolled out on a real time basis. Influencers like Aashka Goradia, Atul Khatri, Madan Chikna and Pakchikpak Raja Babu got their own personalized posters. Star World also engaged with birthday girl Priyanka Chopra by tweeting out birthday wishes to her through the personalized poster. Indian media, too, supported the initiative with complete enthusiasm.

    Star World truly engaged with fans in a unique manner by giving them a chance to be a part of the Game of Thrones universe thereby creating new marketing benchmarks for the show.

  • Star English Network shows nominated for Primetime Emmy Awards

    MUMBAI: The Primetime Emmy awards recognizes the best TV series and are touted as the ‘Oscars of Television’ in its 69th year. The best shows of the year declared on 13 July as the nominations for the biggest and most coveted international television awards were announced. 8000 entries from across the past 12 months were reviewed by the academy and the top contenders across categories emerged with Westworld, This Is Us, Feud: Bette and Joan, Veep, Big Little Lies and several more.

    The Star english entertainment network too has reason to celebrate as the maximum nominations have been bagged by the shows broadcast across its channels. With a staggering 50 Emmy nominations across key categories it goes to prove that Star indeed is home to the most popular and critically acclaimed international shows.

    The 69th Primetime Emmy Award ceremony itself will be simulcast LIVE exclusively on Star World, Star World HD and Star World Premiere HD at 5:30 AM on 18th September with a primetime repeat at 8:00 PM. Furthermore, one of the most loved, witty and curious talk show hosts on television –Stephen Colbert of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert fame will host the Emmy Awards this year, certain to make television viewing a delightful and hilarious affair.

  • Comedy Central tops Eng Ent & Zee Studio enters Top 5

    MUMBAI: Comedy Central emerged as the leader in the English general entertainment channel (GEC) genre with 431 Impressions (000s) and pushed Zee Cafe to the second position with 378 Impressions (000s) in week 25 of Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC) all-India data. 

    AXN and Star World retained their respective positions at third and fourth slots with 145 Impressions (000s) Sum and 103 Impressions (000s) Sum. Star World HD bagged the fifth slot with 103 Impressions (000s) Sum in week 25 whereas Colors Infinity SD exited the top five channels’ list.

    English Movies

    Sony Pix continued to lead the English movie genre with a rise in ratings. The channel registered  3719 Impressions (000s) Sum. Movies Now bagged the second slot with 2950 Impressions (000s) Sum followed by Star Movies on the third spot with 2518 Impressions (000s) Sum and Movies Now 2 climbed to number four with 1909 Impressions (000s) Sum.

    In week 25, Zee Studio entered the top five channels’ list with 1513 Impressions (000s) Sum while HBO exited.

    Infotainment

    Infotainment genre this week has not witnessed any change in the ranking order but all the channels garnered higher ratings than the previous week.  History TV18 topped the chart with 4793 Impressions (000s) Sum.

    Discovery Channel secured the second position with 4391 Impressions (000s) Sum and Nat Geo Wild stood at number three with 2537 Impressions (000s) Sum. National Geographic channel retained its fourth slot with 2537 impressions (000s) and Animal Planet bagged the fifth spot with 2281 Impressions (000s) Sum.

    Lifestyle

    In the lifestyle section, Living Foodz pocketed the first position with 1539 Impressions (000s) Sum. TLC retained its second position with 828 impressions (000s) Sum. Food Food jumped two slots to the third position with 806 Impressions (000s) Sum.

    Fox Life retained its fourth slot with 722 Impressions (000s) and FYI TV 18 slipped to the fifth position this week and registered  563 Impressions (000s) Sum.

Tune-in to Star World from 17 July weekdays at 9 PM and watch ‘UnReal’ Seasons 1 – 3; you’ll know everything there is to know! Starring Shiri Appleby and Constance Zimmer among others, UnReal revolves around the life of Rachel, a young reality television producer, pushed by her unscrupulous boss to swallow her integrity and do anything it takes to drum up salacious show content that will spike ratings. The show takes an exciting, deep and dark dive into the ethics of reality-television producing along with gender equity in the workplace. The show will be airing on a dedicated slot called ‘Star World Recommends’ that will be synonymous with airing must-watch shows.

    TLO Nora and Kevin 1 BK: Keeping up with the dramatic momentum, the critically acclaimed and star-studded series The Leftovers, Seasons 1 – 2 will premiere on the channel on 17th July, weekdays at 10 PM. Based on the book of the same name by Tom Perrotta, The Leftovers starts three years after a global event called the ‘Sudden Departure’ results in an inexplicable, simultaneous disappearance of 140 million people, 2% of the world’s population.
