    MUMBAI: English general entertainment channel Star World will celebrate the end of the year with music, beauty and fashion.

    The 2006 40th Annual Country Music Awards air on 30 December at 9 pm and on 31 December at 8 am. Recognised worldwide as “Country Music’s Biggest Night”, these awards represent the pinnacle of achievement for country music artists, musicians, producers, publishers, songwriters, video directors and industry executives who work in America’s most popular music genre.

    The event will be held in Nashville, Tennessee and will showcase the best of country music.

    Miss Teen USA 2006 airs on 31 December at 12 pm. Viewers will watch beauty in the making in this annual celebration of American youth and grace. Aside from fresh good looks and a great smile, these young contestants often have a long list of academic and extra-curricular accomplishments behind them. Donald Trump, who is also a partner of the Miss Universe Organisation, actively promotes Miss Teen USA.

    Miss Teen USA spends her year building relationships with organisations committed to education and action, such as Best Buddies, Do Something, and Mothers Against Drunk Driving.

    Michael Buble – Caught In The Act airs on 31 December 2006 at 2 pm.     MUMBAI: US broadcaster TV Land will count down The 100 Greatest TV Quotes and Catchphrases next month.

    This will be a week-long look at the memorable sayings from American cartoons, television series, commercials and news programmes over the past 60 years.

    The quotes that have made the cut include Donald Trump’s parting shot to the loser of the business based reality show The Apprentice “You’re fired”, Holy crap! from the sitcom Everybody Loves Raymond which airs in India on Star World and MTV’s iconic phrase I want my MTV! which was made legendary in the Dire Straits song Money For Nothing.

    Another phrase that made it is Oh my God! They killed Kenny! from the acerbic animated show South Park. The phrase for the show X-Files The truth is out there is also present. In the news category not surprisingly Neil Armstrong’s quip of “One small step for man one giant leap for mankind” after he became the first man to step on the moon is also present. Then there is the late JFK’s call to his countrymen, “Ask not what your country can do for you. Ask what you can do for your country.” The expression that film critics Roger Ebert and the late Gene Siskel used in rating a film “Two thumbs up!” or “Thumbs Down” that has influenced film critics who came after them is also there.

    MUMBAI: Warren Beatty will be honoured at the Golden Globe Awards with the Cecil B. DeMille Award for lifetime achievement.

    The Golden Globes will air live on Star World on 16 January 2007

    Beatty has won the Golden Globe five times. he won for Heaven Can Wait in the acting category and another as best director for Reds. He also received Golden Globes as producer of Best Picture (drama) Bugsy and Best Picture (Comedy or Musical) for Heaven Can Wait. He has been nominated 12 times.

    Meanwhile Lorraine Nicholson the daughter of veteran actor Jack Nicholson has been chosen as Miss Golden Globe. She will assist in the handing out of the trophies. Jack himself should be nominated for his role as an irish mobster in The Departed.

    Star World focusses on ‘Hollywood Shootouts’, Christmas next month

    MUMBAI: English general entertainment channel Star World will during the yuletide season next month focus on Christmas as well as on a new show Hollywood Shootouts.

    Hollywood Shootouts will air every Sunday from next month at 5 pm. Two of Hollywood’s big shots – Variety editor Peter Bart and producer Peter Guber – take on some of moviedom’s biggest movers and shakers: top actors, directors, producers and studio executives who make Hollywood what it is today.

    The show gets behind the hype and into the minds of some of entertainment’s most elusive and fascinating personalities. Names to watch for include Dustin Hoffman, Charlize Theron, Samuel L. Jackson, Clint Eastwood, Mel Gibson and Harvey Weinstein.

    The two hosts have attracted critical acclaim for complementing each other perfectly as two sides of the Hollywood coin. The A-list guests are willing to discuss their careers with frankness.
    All the episodes revolve around the general topic of surviving and thriving in Hollywood. However the varied guests shape each episode according to their individual identities.

    Since next month is the time to spread good cheer the channel will air the special Christmas Miracles on 19 December at 8 pm, 20 December at 11 amand on 24 December at 9 am. Celebrities Halle Berry, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Melissa Joan Hart and Richard Karn serve as first-time Santa’s helpers by fulfilling the wishes of children and their families, from specially selected letters that were written to Santa and found in the “dead letter” bins at the U.S. Postal Service.

    Also showcased are stories by everyday people who have, in some way, been miraculously touched at Christmas time. Some of the soul-warming highlights include: Melissa Joan Hart and the cast of Sabrina The Teenage Witch fulfilling a young girl’s Christmas wish to experience what it’s like to be an actress. Jennifer Love Hewitt redecorates a young boy’s bedroom and presents him with the gift of his dreams – his very first bed.

    Halle Berry helps a nine-year-old boy create a better Christmas for a group of less-fortunate children with a surprise visit from Santa Claus. And Richard Karn uses his “Home Improvement” skills to create a yard filled with snow for a young girl who dreamt of having a “white Christmas”.

    On Christmas Eve 24 December at 1 pm the channel will air a classic film The Man Upstairs. It is about the unlikely relationship that grows between Victoria (Katherine Hepburn) – an elegant, lonely reclusive, and a fast-talking fugitive, Moony Polanski (Ryan O’Neal), who she finds hiding in her attic one day. It is a story about how love and life can be found in the strangest places, Ryan soon finds the family he never had in Victoria, while the older woman’s loneliness disappears with his presence.

    But idyllic though this life is, it couldn’t stay the same with Moony’s checkered past haunting them. The climax is played out on Christmas Eve, where the two celebrate over a true-blue Christmas tree, only to find out that more than just presents are waiting for them.

    The channel has also lined up a slew of episodes of its comedy shows that have the Christmas theme. These will air on 24 December from 3 pm and on Christmas Day 25 December from 8:30 am onwards. An episode of Scrubs that will air is called My Own Personal Jenus. While his friends don’t really feel like celebrating ther birth of Jesus, Turk makes a huge deal about it. But his faith and happiness are gone after a very busy night at the hospital. Dr. Cox has J.D. videotape the birth of the child of one of his friends.

    In the episode of Everybody Loves Raymond called The Thought That Count Robert gives Ray a great idea on what to get Debra for Christmas, but he isn’t very happy when Ray takes all the credit for it.

    An episode of Just Shoot Me is called Christmas? Christmas!. In the episode of Still Standing
    Judy is excited to host Christmas in the Miller house for the first time, but her plans are scrapped when Bill’s mom insists on having Christmas dinner for the entire family in her tiny apartment. Meanwhile, Linda’s good deed for Christmas – making over her helpless co-worker – goes better than planned.

    Even The Simpsons get into the holiday spirit. In the episode Tis The Fifteen Season the Simpson family goes Christmas shopping at the Springfield Heights Promenade, where the rich people shop. Homer spends the remaining portion of his share of the money for a gift for himself (a personalised talking astrolabe) and has no money left to buy the family a nice Christmas tree.

    Marge and the kids find out what he’s spent the money on and are disappointed in him. Spending the night on the couch, Homer watches “Mr. McGrew’s Christmas Carol” and the story works its magic on Homer, and Homer wakes with resolve to be good and unselfish.

    In the Malcolm In The Middle episode called Christmas Tree Hal and the boys begin selling Christmas trees, but every time that they are about to gain money for actually doing it, something unexpected happens. At the ranch, Francis and Piama are reminded of home when Otto’s relatives come to stay at the ranch, while Lois recruits the help of vagabonds in order to find a squirrel that bit Craig, to confirm if it has rabies.

    MUMBAI: From Friday 10 November Star World will air a show Most Haunted every Friday night at 10 pm.

    The series will take viewers inside haunted locations around Europe.
    A ghost-hunting team as well as top experts from the paranormal field join host Yvette Fielding. Attempting different methods and experiments to try and communicate with the dead, the team is determined to prove the existence of life after death.

    The channel adds that the paranormal series that has captivated viewers across the world, In Most Haunted the production team spends 24 hours in the UK most haunted locations, from castles to manor houses to underground stations, braving morbid atmospheres in chilling venues in an attempt to uncover the truth of ghostly sightings, poltergeists and ethereal voices.

    With a range of scientific tracking equipment and night vision cameras, they capture the most extraordinary paranormal activity ever to be seen on camera. On hand to assist are mediums, psychics and parapsychologists who evaluate the investigations in an attempt to answer the question on everyone lips: do ghosts exist?

    MUMBAI: Star World is ready to roll out a series of new shows, new specials and new seasons. From the dramatic series Desire: Table for Three to The Scholar, 2006 34th American Music Awards to the new seasons of My Wife and Kids, Greys Anatomy to Most Haunted, Malcolm in the Middle and Commander-in-Chief.

    Desire: Table for Three is a daily one-hour drama that spins a tale of ardour, betrayal, deceit and murder, exclusively on Star World. Premiering 6 November it chronicles the tragic destruction of a family and the erosion of the bonds of brotherhood when two brothers, on the run from the mafia, get caught in a complicated web of deception when they both fall for the same woman.

    The 2006 34th American Music Awards LIVE, featuring celebrity presenters, live performances will be telecasted live on 22 November on Star World. 20 awards will be given out representing the best of Pop/Rock, Country, Soul/Rhythm & Blues, Rap/Hip Hop, Latin, Alternative, Adult Contemporary and Contemporary Inspirational music.

    There would be a return of some old favourites. Commander in Chief is a thrilling series about Mackenzie Allen who has a lot on her plate…three kids, an ambitious husband, and she is about to become the first female president of the United States. It will be aired every Tuesday night, starting 7 November on Star World.

    Starting 9 November The Scholar is an original, unscripted series that will give the winner a college education from a top-rated school of their choice. Filmed on location at the University of Southern California, its the first show ever to celebrate higher education as the ultimate american prize, asserts an official release.

    Also slated are the new seasons of the kooky family comedies My Wife and Kids, Malcolm in the Middle, the medical drama Grey’s Anatomy and paranormal series Most Haunted, adds the release.

    Star World unveils programme line up for the Diwali month

    MUMBAI: From a special Halloween horror fest to all-new seasons of popular shows, Star World is leaving no stones unturned to get its share of the viewership this Diwali.

    The channel presents Robbie Williams- A Close Encounter on 7 October, the show that broke the Guinness Book Of World Records for the fastest and largest number of concert tickets ever sold in one day – 1.6 million in 24 hours, states an official release.

    Simi Garewal will profile choreographer Farah Khan with her husband Shirish Kunder on 22 October and Aishwarya Rai on 29 October on Rendezvous with Simi Garewal.

    Star World then has the comedy programme Must Sceam TV on 29 October. On 8 October, series 4 of Parkinson kicks off with a look back at some of Series 3’s highlights whose guests include James Blunt, Antonio Banderas, Ricky Gervais, Susan Sarandon, Robbie Williams and Stevie Wonder.

    America’s first female President takes centrestage on Star World next month

    MUMBAI: English general entertainment channel Star World’s strategy is simple! get more viewers to sample it by launching new shows almost every month.

    The latest addition is Commander In Chief. Starring Geena Davis as America’s first female president, the show kicks off on 7 November and airs on Tuesdays at 10 pm with repeats on Wednesdays at 10 am and on Sundays at 6 pm.
    Mackenzie Allen, played by Davis (who won an Oscar for The Accidental Tourist) has a lot on her plate – three kids, an ambitious husband, and she is about to become the first female President of the US. Following the death of the President, Vice President Mackenzie accepted the job against everyone’s wishes including Speaker of the House, Nathan Templeton.

    Now, Mackenzie has to contend with Nathan’s hostility, foreign leaders unaccustomed to dealing with a woman in power, and her husband who’s less than thrilled with the pink décor of his First Husband’s office. Mackenzie will have to break out of traditional roles to prove herself to her family, staff and the entire world.

    In the first episode Mackenzie Allen, who serves as Vice President of the US, has a tough decision to make, whether or not to go against the wishes of the dying current President. He has asked her to step down and let someone a little more appropriate take his place in the Oval Office. However, it’s not only the President that is calling for her resignation, it’s her entire party which elected her as the Vice President to start with.

    Star World will also set a Table For Three. The show kicks off on 6 November at 11 pm and airs from Tuesday – Saturday at 5 pm. The show chronicles the tragic destruction of a family and the bonds of brotherhood when two brothers on the run from the mafia find themselves in a heated battle of passion, betrayal, deceit and murder over the woman they both love.

    This one-hour drama stars Michelle Belegrin as Andrea Zavatti, the beautiful daughter of a wealthy restaurateur who quickly becomes the object of affection for the Thomas brothers Alex and Louis. Alex, played by Zack Silva, is the unpretentious, handsome chef who loves Andrea with a pure heart. Louis, portrayed by Nate Haden, is the charming and ambitious older brother who also falls in love with Andrea and wages a bitter war with Alex when he realises he is already after her heart.

    Vivian Gray portrays Andrea’s best friend Suzy Edwards, who quickly turns villainous when she seduces Andrea’s scheming boyfriend George played by Tomy Dunster. Along with the help of his equally manipulative half-sister Victoria, played by Sofia Milos, George works to take control of the Zavatti fortune.

    Eliana Alexander plays Rita Thomas, Alex and Louis’ mother who was left to raise her two sons alone after her husband Peter, portrayed by Al Bandiero, abandoned her many years ago. Chris DeRose is mob boss Joey Gamarra, who seeks retribution after catching Louis in bed with his daughter Cara, played by Kelly Albanese.

    The channel will also air the reality show The Scholar from 9 November evry Thursday at 10 pm with repeats on Fridays and Mondays at 11 am.

    MUMBAI: Star World brings a treat to all the Jackie Chan fans as the prime time show Rendezvous with Simi Garewal will feature the martial-arts superstar. The programme is slotted to air on 3 September at 9:30 pm.
