    MUMBAI: According to week 17 of BARC India rating, 6 Mega Cities: NCCS AB: 4+ Individuals survey. English Entertainment saw a rise in its overall rating with AXN leading. The English movies space was topped by Star movies and Infotainment continued with Discovery as number one.

    AXN sustained its top position with a hike in its rating from 225 Impressions (000s) of week 16 to 343 Impressions (000s). Colors Infinity SD with 275 Impressions (000s) climbed up a position from last week, whereas Comedy Central dropped a position with 270 Impressions (000s).
    Star World with 124 Impressions (000s) grabbed fourth position, followed by Zee Café with 105 Impressions (000s).

    English Movies

    Star Movies held its first position with 4655 Impressions (000s) in English movies space, followed by Movies Now with 3456 Impressions (000s). Sony Pix secured third place with 2343 Impressions (000s). HBO got fourth position 1462 Impressions (000s). Zee Studio is at fifth position with 1285 Impressions (000s).

    MUMBAI: Star World Premiere HD premiered Game of Thrones on 26 April. The channel kick-started its campaign with extensive on-air promotions and the network’s reach. The promotions are carried across Hindi and English general entertainment channels as well as sports and infotainment.  

    The buzz only increased as the launch day appeared with countdowns across the network till the very last minute. But the buck did not stop here. The channel spread the excitement not just to its viewers but also to trade partners with a whole week of exciting on-ground activations across 8 media agencies in Bangalore, Mumbai and Delhi. The employees of these agencies experienced virtual sword fighting, traded character cards, were welcomed by a violinist playing the title track at the entrance in the morning and much more.  This 6-day long activity was a lead-in to the premiere of Game of Thrones season 6, comprising of 6 different experiences curated around the Game of Thrones theme. In fact, participation benchmarks were crossed and beyond averaging over 70 per cent as the employees participated with much anticipation and gusto.

    Game of Thrones fans are extremely active on the digital platforms, and it was only fitting that the channel went all out online. Star World Premiere HD decided to own Tuesdays as GoT Tuesdays and launched the Amazon Fanlords activity on Twitter. Starting 4 weeks prior to the show launch, every Tuesday, Twitter users could engage in contests, activities and win exclusive Game of Thrones merchandise as they became the Amazon Fanlords. The contest garnered 15 million (1.5 crore) estimated impressions on an average, every Tuesday. The Tuesday to Tuesday activity successfully commenced on 29 March and will go on till the show’s season 6 comes to an end.

The activity garnered 74 million (7.4 crore) estimated impressions and was trending nationally for several hours claims the channel. On the launch day, GoT Tuesdays gained the highest momentum as Amazon Fanlords was not only expanded to a day-long contest online but continued on air during the episode. Viewers could answer questions during the episode itself too, to win the most exclusive Game of Thrones merchandises. The activity helped garner 107 million (10.7 crore) estimated impressions.

The first contender to be a part of the Top 24 and get a step closer to the grand title is the 30 year old, Indian-born home cook who has also impressed the celebrity chef Marco Pierre White on the show – Nidhi Mahajan. Speaking about this opportunity, the 30-year old call-centre worker Nidhi said in an interview with Confidential, “I had tears in my eyes….I had always wanted to cook for Marco. He’s like a God of food for me, I was so overwhelmed at the time, I was not thinking that it was real. He’s been telling me that he wants me to open a restaurant in London near his place and he can come every day to eat my food. That’s the best compliment I have ever got, and from someone like Marco…please hit me over the head I must be dreaming! It was a great moment for me.”

    A few other contestants’ names have also been announced but it is unclear if they have made it to the pointy end of the competition. That includes a 31 year old high school teacher, Cecelia Vuong, who withdrew from the show in the 2014 series after sustaining a head injury.

    Matt Sinclair, another contestant has already become famous for his ‘MasterChef’s death dish’ that failed to impress the judges. On the other hand Western Australian waitress Karmen Lu is making a big impression on the judging trio with her incredible chocolate dishes.

    There are also other contenders who believe in taking risks, such as Michaela Johansson, a 23 year old student from New South Wales who attempted a croquem bouche in just one hour and Queensland Park Ranger Miles Pritchett who cooked a pie in a tin.

    Rounding out the list of cooking show hopefuls is a pair, the likes of which has not been witnessed on the show before – a brother-sister duo, Jimmy Wongand Theresa Visintin.

    With a batch of contestants that appear to be the best group yet, the wait for the show has become more difficult.
