    MUMBAI: This year Disney India has witnessed spectacular success with its Hollywood movies setting benchmarks that reflect the increasing popularity of English movies in the country. Similarly, Hotstar has emerged as a market leader signaling the rise of digital and mobile entertainment platforms. Hotstar has now announced a new studio partnership with Disney India to dramatically augment its Premium service. It has inked a multi-year SVOD deal with Disney India to showcase the studio’s biggest hits exclusively on Hotstar Premium in India which includes movies like Lucasfilm Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Disney’s The Jungle Book and Moana, Marvel’s Captain America: Civil War and Doctor Strange, Disney.Pixar’s Finding Dory amongst others.

    In addition, Hotstar premium subscribers will also have access to popular movies and classics from Disney’s library including Disney.Pixar’s Ratatouille, Brave, Toy Story 3; Disney’s The Lion King, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest as well as popular American TV series from ABC Studios such as Castle and Desperate Housewives. Hotstar subscribers will be able to access this content conveniently through Disney, Marvel and ABC Studios branded sections on the homepage of Hotstar.

    Setting its sights on shaping the connected TV experience in India, Hotstar recently appropriated the top spot on iTunes as Apple TV’s App of the Year for India 2016. The recognition came on the back of a breakthrough year in which Hotstar continued to lead and disrupt the Indian market place. The service now has more than 140 million downloads to date. According to third party tracking provider App Annie, that tracks app usage of video streaming platforms, more than 50 million users used the service in India in the month of December.

    MUMBAI: Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace is starting on 14 January at 12 noon, and Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones on 15 January at the same time.

    From 1977 to 2017, Star Wars, a space film series created by George Lucas of “a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away” famous for its innumerable fans following The Complete Saga religiously. In first place this film series has multiple characters and secondly each character has its own little or big story which draws attention of the viewers. 

    There are so many facts about the Star wars that people love to debate. Merchandise like light saber, T-shirts, Star Wars Character figurines and bobble heads have always remained I the shelves of every 90s kid until now. With the Star Wars Saga making a comeback on Star Movies, a quikc look at some of the mind boggling facts of the Star Wars Saga.

    . Anthony Daniels, who voiced C3P0 and climbed into the tin suit, is the only actor to appear in all 8 Star Wars films
    Bail Organa and Yoda step into the hallway of Organa’s ship and have a nice coversation about being rebels or something in Sith. It’s the actual ship that Darth Vader boards to capture Princess Leia Organa in the start of A New Hope.
    Clones age TWICE as fast as normal.
    According to Animation Director Rob Coleman, not a single clone trooper suit was ever built. Every single clone trooper seen in the film is computer generated, with motion capture performed by ILM employees, wearing only the helmet and sometimes the footwear of the suit. The rest is complete CG.
    In Jedi, listen very carefully as Darth Vader picks up the Emperor and throws him down the Death Star shaft. This is the only time the Jedi theme music plays over a shot of Vader, reflecting his return to the light side of the Force. 
    Princess Leia was subject to one of the most famous ad libs in cinema history – that being Han Solo’s response to her declaration of love – “I know”. Harrison Ford apparently made it up at Irvine Kershner’s suggestion. Leia got to return the line in Jedi during the Battle of Endor.

    MUMBAI: Disney India has signed a multi-year output deal with Star India to telecast some of its successful films across the latter’s network in multiple languages including Hindi, Tamil, English, Telugu and Bengali.

    The collaboration between Disney India and the Star India, over the years, has engaged viewers with blockbuster movies such as “Captain America: Winter Soldier”, Disney.Pixar’s “Inside Out”, Marvel’s “Avengers: Age of Ultron” and Disney’s “Cinderella”.

    The new deal will include titles such as “Moana” and “Doctor Strange” and “Star Wars: The Force Awakens”, IANS reported. The extended partnership kicked off with of 2016’s biggest Hollywood blockbuster in India — Disney’s “The Jungle Book”s television premiere.

    Disney India, vice president, studios Amrita Pandey stated that they believed in bringing quality, family focused entertainment to the audience across all age groups and Star was an ideal platform to take its bouquet of movies across the country.

    Star India CEO-Entertainment Amit Chopra said that the partnership with Disney India was a testimony of its commitment to deliver the best Hollywood content to its viewers.

    Meantime, Hulu, a JV with 21st Century Fox, Comcast’s NBCUniversal and Timer Warner’s Turner Broadcasting System, reached its first licensing pact for theatrical features with The Walt Disney Studios (DIS).

    The new, multi-year, deal allows the streaming service the exclusive subscription VOD (video on-demand) rights to a collection of successful movies and family favorites from Disney’s library of blockbuster films.

    Owing to the pact, Hulu became the exclusive S-VOD (subscription video on demand) home to a selection of Disney favorites including Mulan, Pocahontas, The Nightmare Before Christmas, Hercules, Sister Act and Air Bud, which are all available to stream on Hulu now.

    BENGALURU: The Walt Disney Company Inc (Disney) reported 6 percent higher revenue for the year ended October 1, 2016 (FY-16, current year) as compared to the previous year ended October 3, 2015 (FY-15). Operating income in the current year increased 7.1 percent as compared to the previous year. Revenue for FY-16 and FY-15 were $55,632 million and $52,465 million respectively, while operating incomes were $15,721 million and $14,681 million respectively.

    However, for the quarter ended October 1, 2016 (Q4-16, current quarter) Disney’s revenue declined 2.7 percent in Q4-16 to $13,142 million vis-à-vis $13,512 reported for Q4-15. Operating income declined 10.1 percent year-over-year (y-o-y) in the current quarter to $3,176 million from $3,534 million in the previous year. The fall in revenues was noticeable across three of four of Disney’s divisions, viz., Media Networks, Parks and Resorts, and, Consumer Products &Interactive Media (Consumer Products). Only the Studio Entertainment Division reported a slight increase in revenue, while operating income declined across all the four in Q4-16 versus Q4-15.

    “We’re very pleased with our performance for the year, delivering the highest revenue, net incomeand earnings per share in Disney’s history,” said Disney chairman and chief executive officer Robert A. Iger. “Fiscal 2016 was our sixth consecutive year of record results, highlighted bythe opening of Shanghai Disney Resort, the phenomenally successful return of Star Wars, and our Studio’srecord-breaking $7.5 billion in total box office. We remain confident that Disney will continue to deliverstrong growth over the long-term as we further strengthen our brands and franchises, our technologicalcapabilities, and our international presence.”
