    NEW DELHI: Local content generated through creative storytelling. ‘Sut’ (meaning ‘shoot’ in Vietnamese) set to release in November 2016 is the first venture into film production by the content solutions company Greymatter Entertainment Pvt. Ltd.

    Developed in collaboration with Vincent Ngo of the “Hancock” fame, the film is a coming-of-age story of two brothers set against the background of the sport, football. It has been directed by Vietmax, one of the most successful directors in Vietnam.

    Greymatter Founder and CEO Chandradev Bhagat said, “We have always been excited about films. ‘Sut’ is a project that came together quite magically. Having worked on and delivered projects across geographies, the idea was to bring together creative talent, international work flows and storytelling abilities from around the world to create strong local content. This marks the beginning of some of our exciting plans ahead”.

    Greymatter has been doing some pathbreaking work in both, sports and non-fiction content, including Premier Futsal League and Pro-Wrestling League in the live sports space. It has also developed the hit series ‘The Remix’. In the last year and a half, ‘The Remix’ has been sold in 15 countries. It has been nominated as the top 25 formats in the world at MIPTV – in fact making it the first Asian format to ever feature in the list.

    Greymatter is strategically focused on creating IPR (Intellectual Property Rights) properties and churning out creatively distinguished content. It is currently one of the few Indian companies to have sold original formats globally and is a recipient of multiple nominations and awards in India and the A-Pac region including the EMVIES, Spikes Asia and Asian Television Awards.

    The agency has worked with some of the biggest brands including Ten Sports, Sony Six, Star Sports, Disney, Viacom Colors and VH1 to name a few on the broadcast end and brands like Google, McDonalds, Tata and Idea in the branded content space.

    MUMBAI: With 191 million viewers tuning into watch the just concluded Rio Olympics in Brazil and every two out of three doing so on Star Sports channels, coupled with nearly 70 percent of the reach of television in affluent homes in the top 6 metros via digital platform Hotstar, it has been a gold medal performance from Star India.

    This statement from Star India today when the media world is talking about a over US$ 350 million buyout of TEN Sports by Sony Pictures Network India, is important from the point of view of sports broadcasting in India. SPNI also runs co-branded sports channels with ESPN.

    “For us, it is a matter of pride that Star Sports is the destination network for multi sports consumption in the country. Our endeavour to build a multi sports ecosystem is being rewarded with audience interest and attention not just in cricket but even in other sports…Star India’s unprecedented reach made the Rio 2016 Olympic Games the most epic sporting event in the history of viewing sports in India,” an official statement from Star quoted Star Sports CEO Nitin Kukreja as saying.

    The immersive and data rich experience, backed by powerful visuals and marketing, has once again created history in terms of user delight, translating into the highest ever viewership of Olympics in India, Star claimed.

    “As the official television broadcaster in India (the Olympics feed were shared with pubcaster Doordarshan by Star under stipulated regulations), Star Sports brought the game alive and the Rio 2016 Olympic Games was bigger than ever before with an unprecedented 191 million viewers (as per BARC data; CS 4+ Urban) tuning in to watch the games,” the Star statement stated, highlighting that two out of every three viewers tuned in to watch the mega event on the Star Sports network, thus “re-establishing its credentials as one of the leading sports networks in India capable of delivering national impact across geographies and demographics.”

    Hotstar, the exclusive digital streaming partner in India for the Rio Games, providing round the clock coverage of the games with 14 live streams for sports fans, attracted nearly “70 per cent of the reach of television in affluent homes in the top 6 metros” delivering an incremental reach of almost 10 million viewers in India with viewers streaming almost an hour of the Games during the two weeks, propelling Olympics into the top brackets of sporting events covered online, Star said.

    The standout highlight of the tournament was when India came together to watch the thrilling badminton women’s singles final between PV Sindhu and Spain’s Carolina Marin.

    The gruelling gold medal encounter garnered 17.2million impressions (again BARC data), making it the highest viewed TV programme on that day. It was also the highest rated non-cricket game on any sports network since the inception of BARC. On Hotstar, more than 5 million viewers tuned in to watch the match live, unprecedented for any event outside of international cricket, Star statement added.

    According to Hotstar CEO Ajit Moha, “As the world celebrated its sports champions, Hotstar enabled an experience that was unprecedented for sports fans not just in India but anywhere in the world: free access to almost every single moment of the Olympics fans with big moments being curated and showcased on the platform round the clock.     With Star Sports channels showing various disciplines of Rio Games, including one channel dedicated to Hindi commentary, Star also undertook a massive campaign #IsseBadaKuchNahi ( nothing is bigger than this) focused on the stature of the Olympics as well as the medal prospects from India.

    Star Sports, which has some premier sporting properties in its portfolio, has been creating a multi-sport ecosystem in India.     NEW DELHI: India may not have a Michael Phelps, rather one doesn’t remember if an Indian swimmer even participated in Rio, but surprisingly swimming garnered maximum viewership of 30.8 (000) Impressions in the initial days of Olympics 2016.

    According to BARC data for the period of August 6-12, 2016, swimming topped the list of Top 10 watched events/disciplines (basis sum of normalized impressions across 30 min) across the nine SD and HD TV channels of Star Sports and Doordrashan (TG: All India, 4+).

    The swimming discipline was followed by archery in the second spot as the most watched sports/discipline in India, though this could be understood as the Indian women’s team, lead by world champ Deepika Kumari, was expected to win a medal in the team and individual sections at Rio.

    Despite the fact the Indian men and women archers failed to shoot themselves to the medal podium, but viewership was an impressive 24.2 (000) Impressions; probably because in the land of Arjun and Karna, master mythological archers, archery is an attractive sport.

Srikanth, etc gave badminton the No. 3 spot in terms of viewership with 9.3 (000) Impressions.

    It would be worthwhile to see the viewership figures for the women’s final match played on August 19, 2016 as and when BARC comes out with its data as facing a dismal Olympics 2016 campaign, the whole of India was rooting for the lanky Sindhu to win the yellow metal. Ditto for Sakshi Malik’s wrestling matches where India finally ended up getting a bronze medal courtesy a 23-year-old woman hailing from a patriarchal State of Haryana.  

     

    Interestingly, the Indian men’s hockey match against Canada, which ended in a draw, pulled in 9.1 Impressions in terms of viewership. But when before this match, India had played Ireland in the opener and won, the audience was a low 5.7 Impressions.

    BARC’s Week 32 data on Rio 2016 telecast also highlights that telecast across nine channels for a cumulative 950 hours in the period 6-12 August garnered 210.9 million Impressions.

    The opening ceremony garnered 0.5 million Impressions across all the 9 channels.

    NEW DELHI: All the India-centric events and some other important events taking place during the Olympics next month will be telecast on Doordarshan National Channel.

    A DD source told indiantelevision.com that there will be no live telecasts on DD Sports as that channel is not covered in the ambit of the Sports Broadcasting Signals (Mandatory Sharing with Prasar Bharati) Act 2007. However, DD Sports had commenced pre-event programmes on the Olympics in June this year.

    Rio 2016 are being held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, are from 5 to 21 August 2016. The Paralympics follow from 7 to 18 September 2016. The Rio 2016 opening ceremony will be at the Maracanã Stadium on 5 August 2016. This is the first time that the Games are being held in South Anerica.

    The source also said that as President Pranab Mukherjee will be giving his traditional broadcast on the eve of Independence Day from 7.00 pm onwards n 14 August 2016, any important India-centric event that may happen at that time could be carried further in the day.

    Similarly, the Flag Hoisting Ceremony and Prime Minister’s Address to the Nation on Independence Day and Governors’ Address will be telecast on DD National from 6.25 am to 9.30 am. During this period if any important India centric-event happens, this will be carried as deferred live from 9.30 am onwards.

    The timings of the Closing ceremony are yet to be provided by the rights holder Star Sports. Also the timings pertaining to the end of the play every day are tentative and likely to change depending on the duration of the play.

    DD Sports has already mounted five shows as the build up to the Rio Olympics 2016. The shows were Olympic Hour, Olympics Flash Back, Mission Rio, Olympics Quiz and 2 episode series ‘Poorvottar Ke Ratna’.

    Apart from this social media weekly show ‘Sports Konect’ is totally focussed on Olympics and has been renamed as ‘Olympics Konect’.

    During the Olympics in DD Sports, daily Olympics bulletins and studio based discussion show ‘Olympics Hour’ will be telecast which will incorporate India centric news from the field of play and Olympics village. Apart from this shows like Olympics Flashback and Olympics Quiz which are not dated will be repeated.

    OLYMPIC HOUR- Studio discussion based one hour show in which the select experts dissect the chances of Indian athletes in sports in which the medals are expected. The selected experts include sports persons, sports journalists and federation officials.

    Olympics Flash Back- In this 15 minutes of flash back time, DD Sports takes the viewers down the memory lane, taking one back to the origin, legacy and important moments attached with the Olympics in past. These capsules were acquired from DW, Germany and are of best production quality.

    Mission Rio: – in this half an hour per episode done in documentary feature style, India’s chances weighing the sports personalities and specific sports are showcased from the actual location. These episodes are based on athletics, hockey, gymnastics, weightlifting, Wrestling & Archery amongst others.    

    Olympics Quiz- the only quiz show of its kind in the sports genre, the 7 episode series tests the knowledge level of the school level students pertaining to the games. Hosted by the seasoned quiz master, the series is shot in a unique viewer friendly presentation style, It is beginning this evening from 7.30 pm to 8 pm and will continue everyday till 4 August.

    Porvottar Ke Ratna- MC Mary Kom was the face of Indian upsurge in the London Olympics 2016. In Rio Olympics 2016, two sports faces of the North East, boxer Shiva Thapa and gymnast DipaKarmakar shoulder the medal hope of the nation. In two sports episodes of Porvottar Ke Ratna, these two athletes are profiled from ground zero.  This will be held on four days featuring Shiva Thomas tomorrow and on 3 August and Dipa Karmakar on 31 July and 4 August from 9.30 pm to 10 pm on Star Sports.

    Rio Olympics: India-centric live on DD National, special programmes on DD Sports

    NEW DELHI: All the India-centric events and some other important events taking place during the Olympics next month will be telecast on Doordarshan National Channel.

    A DD source told indiantelevision.com that there will be no live telecasts on DD Sports as that channel is not covered in the ambit of the Sports Broadcasting Signals (Mandatory Sharing with Prasar Bharati) Act 2007. However, DD Sports had commenced pre-event programmes on the Olympics in June this year.

    Rio 2016 are being held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, are from 5 to 21 August 2016. The Paralympics follow from 7 to 18 September 2016. The Rio 2016 opening ceremony will be at the Maracanã Stadium on 5 August 2016. This is the first time that the Games are being held in South Anerica.

    The source also said that as President Pranab Mukherjee will be giving his traditional broadcast on the eve of Independence Day from 7.00 pm onwards n 14 August 2016, any important India-centric event that may happen at that time could be carried further in the day.

    Similarly, the Flag Hoisting Ceremony and Prime Minister’s Address to the Nation on Independence Day and Governors’ Address will be telecast on DD National from 6.25 am to 9.30 am. During this period if any important India centric-event happens, this will be carried as deferred live from 9.30 am onwards.

    The timings of the Closing ceremony are yet to be provided by the rights holder Star Sports. Also the timings pertaining to the end of the play every day are tentative and likely to change depending on the duration of the play.

    DD Sports has already mounted five shows as the build up to the Rio Olympics 2016. The shows were Olympic Hour, Olympics Flash Back, Mission Rio, Olympics Quiz and 2 episode series ‘Poorvottar Ke Ratna’.

    Apart from this social media weekly show ‘Sports Konect’ is totally focussed on Olympics and has been renamed as ‘Olympics Konect’.

    During the Olympics in DD Sports, daily Olympics bulletins and studio based discussion show ‘Olympics Hour’ will be telecast which will incorporate India centric news from the field of play and Olympics village. Apart from this shows like Olympics Flashback and Olympics Quiz which are not dated will be repeated.

    OLYMPIC HOUR- Studio discussion based one hour show in which the select experts dissect the chances of Indian athletes in sports in which the medals are expected. The selected experts include sports persons, sports journalists and federation officials.

    Olympics Flash Back- In this 15 minutes of flash back time, DD Sports takes the viewers down the memory lane, taking one back to the origin, legacy and important moments attached with the Olympics in past. These capsules were acquired from DW, Germany and are of best production quality.

    Mission Rio: – in this half an hour per episode done in documentary feature style, India’s chances weighing the sports personalities and specific sports are showcased from the actual location. These episodes are based on athletics, hockey, gymnastics, weightlifting, Wrestling & Archery amongst others.    

    Olympics Quiz- the only quiz show of its kind in the sports genre, the 7 episode series tests the knowledge level of the school level students pertaining to the games. Hosted by the seasoned quiz master, the series is shot in a unique viewer friendly presentation style, It is beginning this evening from 7.30 pm to 8 pm and will continue everyday till 4 August.

    Porvottar Ke Ratna- MC Mary Kom was the face of Indian upsurge in the London Olympics 2016. In Rio Olympics 2016, two sports faces of the North East, boxer Shiva Thapa and gymnast DipaKarmakar shoulder the medal hope of the nation. In two sports episodes of Porvottar Ke Ratna, these two athletes are profiled from ground zero.  This will be held on four days featuring Shiva Thomas tomorrow and on 3 August and Dipa Karmakar on 31 July and 4 August from 9.30 pm to 10 pm on Star Sports.

    Star India rebrands Suvarna channels, revamps programming lineup

    MUMBAI: After launching the HD feeds of its regional channels, Star India is now bringing its Kannada channels under the Star brand. For starters, its Kannada general entertainment channel Suvarna is to be rechristened as Star Suvarna and its movie channel Suvarna Plus as Star Suvarna Plus.

    The nine-year-old Suvarna will be rebranded from 25 July and a company press release says it will reflect the distinctive culture and traditions of Karnataka through its differentiated content.

    Taking its brand legacy forward with a new brand philosophy – ‘Sambandagal Hosa Spandana’ (the new rhythm of relationships) the channel has decided to coincide the relaunch with the debut of Hindi TV producer Nikhil Sinha’s Hara Hara Mahadeva.

    The show is the story of Lord Shiva and will describe his miracles and has international graphics and production values, which have never been done on regional television. The show airs from 25 July at 7.30 pm from Monday to Friday.

    The content offering will further see a ramp up across genres including fiction and non fiction. The channel plans to launch an array of new programmes which includes two weekend non-fiction shows and a new fiction show which will be unveiled in the next few weeks.

    A new team of experts has been roped in to ensure the production values and making of the shows are of impeccable standards.

    Star Suvarna business head Ashok Namboodiri said: “Suvarna has always offered differentiated and innovative content to the Kannada viewers. With the new brand name and proposition, we plan to significantly scale up our offerings which will be on par with international standards. As we enter this new phase, we will continue to delight our consumers with new stories and new programs that will redefine general entertainment”

    Star Suvarna Plus will be a unique combination of movies and sports. The channel will continue to showcase national level sporting events like Star Sports Pro Kabbadi League in Kannada and offer the best of titles from the Kannada movie industry.

    A 360 degree marketing plan has been rolled out to establish the new brand logo and identity while also building up the launch of Hara Hara Mahadeva. Key mediums of communication are TV, print, radio, outdoor and digital.
