    Colors the highest gainer in week 29 TAM ratings

    MUMBAI: As everyone waited for the standoff between IBF, AAAI and ISA to resolve, the channels went on to showcase their shows and advertisements. And before the issue could get a little murkier, the three bodies yesterday finally came up with a consensus. According to it, the media and public will now get to know television viewership in thousands, colloquially referred to as TVT. However till TAM updates its software, indiantelevision.com brings out the TAM ratings report provided by a TV channel, on how the channels fared in week 29 compared with week 28.

    Hindi GECs seem to be on the winning side in week 29 of TAM ratings as most of them saw a rise in their GRPs. Colors was the highest gainer taking its score to 207 GRPs (187 GRPs)and ranking number two this week.

    Star Plus continues to dominate the chart with a hike taking its tally to 243 GRPs (239 GRPs). Zee TV ranked number three marking its score to 158 GRPs (156 GRPs) followed by Sony with 157 GRPs (153 GRPs). Sab generated 152 GRPs (153 GRPs), while Life OK managed to remain stable scoring 121 GRPs (122 GRPs). Sahara One continued to remain in the bottom scoring 17 GRPs (16 GRPs).

    Coming back to Numero uno Star Plus, Diya aur Baati Hum proved to be the star yet again, witnessing huge hike, the show rated 4.5 TVR (3.7 last week). Another prime time show, Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai increased its reach taking its score to 3.4 TVR (3.0 last week). Pyar Ka Dard Hai witnessed a huge growth when it rated 3.1 TVR (2.3 last week) and Saathiya rated 2.8 TVR (2.7 last week). The reality show India‘s Dancing Superstars maintained its viewership when it rated 1.9 TVR on Saturday and 1.7 TVR on a Sunday.

    Colors popular celebrity dance reality show Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa attracted viewers on Saturday when it generated a 2.7 TVR (2.1 TVR) and 2.4 TVR on Sunday (2.5 TVR). Fiction shows on Colors also seems to catch viewer‘s attention. Thus, Balika Vadhu witnessed a growth generating 3.0 TVR (2.7 TVR), Madhubala- Ek Ishq Ek Junoon rated 2.2 TVR (2.0 TVR) andUttaran rated 2.0 TVR (1.9 TVR). New comedy show Comedy Nights with Kapil saw a slight rise 2.7 TVR (2.6 TVR) on Saturday and Sunday. The new entrant on the channel Mrs Pammi Pyarelal rated 1.0 TVR.

    Zee TV‘s reality dance show DID Super Moms managed to rate 2.2 TVR (2.0 last week) on Saturday and 2.0 TVR (2.1 last week) on a Sunday. Its fictional offering Qubool Hai saw a drop when it rated 3.2 TVR (3.4 last week). Sapne Suhane Ladakpan Ke though registered a slight growth taking its score to 2.1 TVR (1.9 last week). The historical show Jodha Akbar generated 1.7 TVR (1.5 last week).

    Fourth placed, Sony Entertainment Television‘s long running crime series seems to be enjoying the attention of its viewers. Thus CID witnessed a slight growth as it rated 2.7 TVR (2.5 last week) and Crime Petrol rated 2.1 TVR (1.8 last week). On the other hand, Comedy Circuske Ajoobe rated 1.3 TVR (1.5 last week). The channel‘s historical show Maharana Pratap saw an improvement generating 1.7 TVR (1.6 last week).

    Other fiction shows either held on to their viewership or dipped marginally during the week. Sony‘s Indian Idol Junior (IIJ) notched up its rating taking its score to 2.4 TVR (1.7 last week) on Saturday and rated 2.0 TVR (1.9 last week) on Sunday.

    Fifth placed, Sab‘s top chart fiction show Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah continues to be the channel leader with 3.8 TVR (3.6 TVR). Chidiya Ghar lost points when it scored 1.9 TVR (2.1 last week). Lapataganj saw a 0.1 improvement in its score when it rated 1.3 TVR (1.2 last week). Other fictional shows witnessed marginal rise and fall as well.

    Sixth placed, Life OK‘s top series Mahadev rated 1.7 TVR (1.6 last week). The new fiction showDo Dil Ek Jaan maintained its stability scoring 0.8 TVR. Savdhan India generated 1.1 TVR (1.2 last week). Shapath showed some improvement when it rated 1.4 TVR (1.2 last week).

    Sahara rated 17 GRPs (16 last week), but it still continues to be at the bottom.

    In the movie channels genre: Zee Cinema saw a drop, reporting 112 GRPs (121 last week); Star Gold fell to 98 TVR (103 last week and Movies OK was at 58 GRPs (60 last week). On the other hand, Max reported 106 GRPs (110 last week).

    All in all, week 29 saw most of the Hindi GECs losing some and winning some, but still maintaining its loyal audiences. How will it fare next week, let‘s wait and watch.

    MUMBAI: Hindi GECs seem to be on the losing side for week 26 of TAM ratings as most of them saw a drop in their GRPs. Life OK was the only gainer clipping an additional six GRPs taking its score to 142 GRPs (136 GRPs).

    Star Plus continues to dominate the chart even after losing nine points taking its tally to 232 GRPs (243 GRPs). Last week‘s highest gainer Zee TV holds on its no 2 position with 197 GRPs (209 GRPs) followed by Colors with 184 GRPs which came down from 188 GRPs in week 26 putting them on the losing side.

    Sony remained stable with 149 GRPs, continuing to stay at the fourth position while Life Ok, the only winner for the week, secured the fifth position. Once again, Sab went back to the sixth position when it rated 139 GRP (138 last week).

    Coming back to Numero uno Star Plus, Diya aur Baati Hum proved to be the star yet again when it rated 3.5 TVR (3.7 last week). Another prime time show, Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai remained stable at 3.0 TVR. Pyar Ka Dard Hai rated 2.9 TVR (2.8 last week) and Saathiya also lost 0.2 points rated 2.9 TVR (2.7 last week). The late night show Veera saw a drastic drop of its TVR from 2.3 TVR (3.0 last week). Wonder why the audience suddenly stopped watching the antics of Veera and her brother. The reality show India‘s Dancing Superstars maintained its viewership at 1.8 TVR on Saturday but could not cope with it on Sunday as its TVR fell to 1.5 TVR (1.8 last week). New show Meri Bhabhi saw a slight growth, taking its score to 2.0 TVR (1.9 last week).

    Zee TV‘s new reality show DID Super Moms lost few points to the chart taking its tally to 3.3 TVR (3.5 TVR) on Saturday and 2.6 TVR (2.7 TVR last week) on Sunday. Its fictional offering Qubool Hai maintained stability generating 3.4 TVR, Sapne Suhane Ladakpan Ke rated 2.3 TVR (2.6 last week). The reality peep show Connected Hum Tum witnessed stability with a 0.7 TVR. New historical show Jodha Akbar generated 1.8 TVR (2 last week). The Ranbir Kapoor starrer Barfi! that aired on 23 June generated a 2.1 TVR in the afternoon and 0.9 TVR in the evening.

    Colors slipped to No. 3 as its popular celebrity dance reality show Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa generated a 2.3 TVR on Saturday (2.1 TVR) and 1.7 TVR on Sunday (1.8 TVR). Fiction shows on Colors seem to be dragging. Thus, Balika Vadhu witnessed stability when it rated 2.5 TVR, Madhubala- Ek Ishq Ek Junoon, also shed ratings and closed at 2.2 TVR (2.4 TVR) and Uttaran rated 2.0 TVR (2.2 TVR). New comedy show Comedy Nights with Kapil saw a fall closing at 2.8 TVR (3.4 TVR) on Saturday and Sunday.

    Fourth placed, Sony Entertainment Television‘s long running crime series CID witnessed a slight growth as it rated 2.2 TVR (2.1 last week). Crime Petrol managed to remain stable rating 1.8 TVR. On the other hand, Comedy Circus ke Ajoobe rated 1.3 TVR. Its new historical show Maharana Pratap saw an improvement of 0.4 TVR, generating 1.8 TVR (1.4 last week).

    Other fiction shows either held on to their viewership or dipped marginally during the week. Sony‘s all new Indian Idol Junior (IIJ) notched up taking its score to 2.4 TVR (1.8 last week) on Saturday and rated 1.3 TVR on Sunday respectively. Cricket fever is definitely not losing out on the audiences when Sony aired ICC Champions Trophy Final India vs England which clocked a 2.4 TVR.

    Fifth placed, Life OK‘s top series Mahadev rated 1.8 TVR (1.9 last week). The new fiction show Do Dil Ek Jaan increased its score to 0.8 TVR (0.6 TVR). Savdhan India generated 1.3 TVR (1.2 last week).

    Sab‘s top chart fiction show Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah continues to be the channel leader with 3.4 TVR (3.5 TVR). Chidiya Ghar saw a marginal improvement when it scored 1.6 TVR (1.4 last week). Other fictional shows witnessed a marginal rise and fall as well.

    Sahara rated 19 GRPs (20 last week), but it still continues to be at the bottom.

    In the movie channels genre: Zee Cinema saw a rise, reporting 104 GRPs (100 last week); Star Gold fell to 101 TVR (109 last week and Movies OK was at 48 GRPs (55 last week). On the other hand, Max reported 117 GRPs (122 last week).

    All in all, week 26 saw most of the Hindi GECs losing out their loyal audiences. How will it fare next week, let‘s wait and watch.

    Star Plus, Zee TV gain in week 24 of TAM

    MUMBAI: Star Plus and Zee TV notched the highest gains in week 24 with an additional 12 GRPs and 13 GRPs to take their individual scores to 254 and 193 GRPs respectively, according to the weekly ratings provided by a TV channel. On the other hand, last week‘s highest gainer Colors shed 17 GRPs taking its total to 181 GRPs at No 3 position.

    Sony Entertainment Television followed at the No 4 position with a tally of 151 GRPs. Sab lopped off two GRPs this week taking its tally to 140 GRPs. Life OK which was the next highest gainer last week saw a huge fall, losing 22 GRPs to end the week with 127 GRPs.

    Numero uno Star Plus‘ chart topper Diya Aur Baati Humincreased marginally generating 4.4 TVR (4.1 TVR last week). Unlike last week, Star‘s fictional series appears to have enraptured viewers this week. Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai increased to 3.5 TVR (3.1 TVR last week), Pyaar ka Dard to 3.2 TVR (3.0 TVR last week) followed by Veera at 2.5 TVR (2.1 TVR last week). With several new reality shows on air, the channel‘s talent hunt-cum-reality show India‘s Dancing Superstar snipped off some viewers when it rated 1.5 TVR on Saturday and 1.4 TVR on Sunday. On 14 June, Star aired Masterchef grand finale generating 3.7 TVR. It thus, proved to be a fulfilling week for Star Plus.

    The new No. 2 Zee TV‘s new reality show DID Super Moms lost 0.2 points on Saturday and 0.4 points on Sunday generating 2.8 TVR (3.0 TVR) and 3.2 TVR (3.6 TVR) respectively. Its fictional offeringQubool Hai lost 0.1 points taking its tally to 2.8 TVR (2.9 TVR),Sapne Suhane Ladakpan Ke saw a slight growth to 2.5 TVR (2.3 TVR) whereas, Punar Vivaah fell to 1.1 (1.4 TVR).

    The new reality peepshow Connected Hum Tum witnessed a drop to 0.7 TVR (1.1 TVR). What was surprising was the rating that the Hindi feature film ABCD – Any Body Can Dance got -2.7 TVR in the afternoon and 1.5 TVR in the evening on 16 June.

On the other hand, Comedy Circusdropped to 1.1 TVR (1.3 TVR). Its new historical show Maharana Pratap remained stable generating 1.3 TVR. Other fiction shows either held on to their viewership or dipped marginally during the week. Sony‘s all new Indian Idol Junior (IIJ) remained stable with ratings of 1.9 TVR on Saturday and 1.8 TVR (1.9 TVR) on Sunday.

    Fifth placed, Sab saw a slight growth from last week. Its fiction show Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah continues to be the channel leader with 3.1 TVR (3.0 TVR). Lapataganj (in-laws) rose to 1.3 TVR (0.5 TVR). Other fictional shows witnessed a marginal rise.

    Life OK‘s top series Mahadev saw a drop to 1.6 TVR (2.0 TVR). The new fiction show Do Dil Ek Jaan managed to get 0.5 TVR (0.6 TVR).Hum Ne Li Hai… Shapath dropped down marginally to 0.9 TVR (1.5 TVR).

    Finally, Sahara showed some improvement when it rated 19 GRPs (16 GRPs last week), but it still continues to be at the bottom.
    In the movie channels genre: Zee Cinema managed to remain stable rating 108 GRPs; Star Gold rose seven points, reporting 106 GRPs (99 last week) and Movies OK was at 51 GRPs (53 last week). On the other hand, Max reported 116 GRPs (110 last week).

    All in all, week 24 saw channels win some and lose some, as always.

    Stars light up Star Parivaar Awards 2013

    Star India’s much-appreciated Star Parivaar Awards is getting glitzier and glamorous. As the actors walked the red carpet, dressed in their best attires, unlimited fun and entertainment was guaranteed. Yash Raj Studio became a witness again to a bigger and better Star Parivaar Awards 2013, which was held on 15 June. The channel has roped in Oral-B as the main sponsor and Amway as the associate sponsor for the grand event.

    The initiative marks the success and recognition of TV characters on Star Plus by the audiences who monitor them closely and daily on their favourite soaps. The function was a limitless package of path-breaking performances, glamour, humour and not to forget the gorgeous television stars.

    Sooraj (Anas Rashid)-Sandhya (Deepika Singh ) from Diya aur Baati Hum, Aaditya (Nakuul Mehta)-Pankhuri (Disha Parmar) from Pyaar Ka Dard Hain, Gopi (Giaa Manek) – Ahem (Mohammad Nazim) and Rashi (Rucha Hasabnis)-Jigar (Vishal Singh) fromSaath Nibhana Saathiya, Aakash (Rahul Sharma)- Poonam (Ishita Dutta) from Ek Ghar Banauga,Nach Baliye-5 winners Jay and Mahi, Ranvijay (Bhavesh Balchandani) -Veera (Harshita Ojha) with Ratan (Sneha Wagh) from Veera were some of the popular Parivaar faces who walked the red carpet.

    Masterchef Fame Sanjeev Kapoor, Vikas Khanna and Kunal Kapur also did the honours along with Masterchef India season 3winner Ripu Daman Handa.

    The evening could not have ended without the doffing of the collective cap to the power of Bollywood. Celebrities like Shilpa Shetty Kundra, Riteish Deshmukh, Sonakshi Sinha and Imraan Khan added some spice to the event.

    Star Parivaar Awards’ unique theme ‘Yeh Prem Kahaani Hai…Parivaar Ki’, brought out the best from the members of the family, who enthused the audience with their breathtaking acts. Be it young or old, all the popular Star Plus actors burned the dance floor with some mesmerising performances.

    With Parivaar Awards roping in Shiamak Davar to choreograph the entire show, the musical theme adopted for this year, was an add-on to entertainment. As the biggest Parivaar of the country came together to celebrate love and togetherness, the evening had its moments of pathos, joy and tongue-in-cheek humour. Present at the occasion also were quite a few TV producers who have contributed to Star Plus success: Rajan Shahi, SLB’s Arvind Babbal , Tony and Deeya Singh, Shashi and Sumeet Mittal, Rakesh Paswan, Yash and Mamta Patanaik, Kavita Barjatyya, and Rashmi Sharma. Star India’s CEO Uday Shankar, COO Sanjay Gupta, content engine head Gaurav Banerjee, Star Plus business head Nachiket Pantvaidya, non-fiction head Ashish Golwalakr were all there to cheer their actors on.

    Also on hand were Star Parivaar Awards jury members Indiantelevision.com and The Indian Telly Awards CEO Anil Wanvari, producer J.D. Majethia, and veteran journalist and writer Bhawana Somaiyya.

    This apart, the 3D mapping projection and three-sided Varsha Desai-designed stage at YRF were a revelation. While SOL Productions was responsible for the creative and the TV production of the event, Frames handled production on the red carpet and the curtain raiser.

    The highlight of the show was the group performance by Shagufta Ali (Moti Chaiji from Veera), Hina Khan (Akshara from Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai), Disha Sharma (Pankhudi from Pyaar ka Dard) and Neelu Vaghela (Bhabho from Diya aur Baati Hum) who made the audiences go ga-ga with their mind-blowing moves and grooves.

    While most of the stars burned the dance floor with their high on energy performances, the rest of the members were seen humming the new STAR Parivaar song 2013 – ‘Tum Jo Milgaye ho’ sung by Sunidhi Chauhan and Ankit Tiwari.

    Well onto the show, the event started with an electrifying prayer dance by the team of Shiamak Davar along with Bhabho, Naitik, and other popular faces of Star welcoming guests to a memorable evening. This was followed by a comic act put together by the cast of Diya aur Baati Hum and other famous actors from the show Yeh Rishta and Veera and Rahul Mahajan.

    The very dashing television chocolate boy Karan Wahi and Ek Hazaaron me Meri Behna hai fame Jeevika left the viewers in splits with their quick drollness and rocking stage presence as they co-hosted the evening for the first category of awards. Helping them with the awards segments were the lively co-hosts Jay Bhanushali, Karan Mehra, Neelu Vaghela and Ashok Lokhande.

    Star India CEO Uday Shankar gave away the ‘Har Ghar ka Pasand Sadasya’ Award.

    While on the one hand, the gorgeous Monica Bedi, who shook the audience with her exotic performance on the popular number Lat Lag gayee from Race 2, provided an oomph factor, Akshara, Sandhya and Pankhudi made the audiences go ga-ga with their thumkas and latkas.

    All through the fun and entertainment, the Star Parivaar Awards did not forget to highlight the plight of women and the injustice faced by them. The spectacular performance by Ratan from Veera and Pankhudi from surely was a highlight of the star-studded evening.

    The rope walking act with no support by Anas Rashid (Diya aur Baati hum fame Sooraj) surely made everyone skip a heartbeat.

    All in all, Star Parivaar Awards was a magnificent evening to remember with fabulous performances, surprising acts and the shinning television industry at its glamorous and entertaining best.

    MUMBAI: Week 22, TAM ratings. Hindi General Entertainment Channel (GEC) leader Star Plus once again held on to its pole position adding 11 GRPs to increase its total to 249 for the entire week. Sab was the next highest gainer, clipping on an additional 10 GRPs to take its score to 145 GRPs, according to ratings provided by a TV channel.

    Colors gained a couple of GRPs and that helped it maintain its no 2 position with 186 GRPs. Zee TV shed eight GRPs to end the week with 176 GRPs. Sony Entertainment was at no 4 as it gained five GRPs to end the week with 154 GRPs. Life OK gained seven GRPs taking its total tally to 137 GRPs.

    1 June saw a slew of new reality shows fighting it out to be crowned the best weekend prime time slot turning GECs into a war zone with Zee TV, Sony and Colors launching their reality shows at the 9.00 pm time slot.

    There was cut-throat competition among the GECs who spent top dollar in promoting the weekend shows. And going by the current week‘s ratings, Zee TV‘s DID Super Moms apparently has won the prime time war bagging a 3 TVR. On the other hand, popular celebrity dance reality show Jhalak Dikhhla Ja (JDJ) registered a 2.4 TVR while Sony‘s all new Indian Idol Junior (IIJ) was at 1.8 TVR.

    The channel‘s new talent hunt-cum-reality show India‘s Dancing Superstar aired its maha Govinda episode and managed to get 1.5 TVR on Saturday and witnessed a fall to 1.6 (2.6 last week) on Sunday.

    Zee TV‘s fictional show Qubool Hai saw a growth to 3 TVR (2.5 TVRlast week), Sapne Suhane Ladakpan Ke saw a slight growth to 2.2 TVR (2.0 last week), PunarVivaah fell to 1.8 (1.9 TVR). What was surprising was the rating that the Hindi feature film ‘Kai po Che‘ got (a 0.8 TVR on 26 May), Sunday. Other fictional shows seem to be shedding viewers if one goes by the fact that Punar Vivaah witnessed a fall taking it to 1.4 TVR (1.8 last week).

    Fourth placed, Sony Entertainment‘s long running crime series CID showed a marginal improvement as it registered a 2 TVR (1.8 last week); whereas Crime Patrol witnessed a fall as it registered a 1.4 TVR (1.8 last week). Finally, Comedy Circus showed a drop of 0.1 taking Sony‘s tally to 1.3 TVR (1.4 last week). A new historical show Maharana Pratap notched up to 1.5 TVR (0.7 last week). Other fiction shows either held on to their viewership or dipped marginally during the week.

    Sab gained 10 GRPs ending the week with 145 GRPs. Its fiction show Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah continues to be the channel lead with 3.1 TVR (2.8 last week). The show‘s maha special episode included Dharmendra who promoted his movie Yamla Pagla Deewana 2 and added 2.4 TVR to the chart. Wah Wah Kya Baat Hai saw a marginal growth taking it to 0.9 TVR (0.6 last week).

    Life OK gained seven GRPs taking it to toll with 137 GRPs (130 last week). Its top series Mahadev continues to lead, with a TVR of 2.4 (1.9 last week). Savdhan India showed a 0.2 improvement taking it to 1.3 TVR (1.1 last week).

    Sahara continued to be at the bottom of the heap with 15 GRPs.

    Movie channels too witnessed marginal decreases: Zee Cinema stayed stable with 103; Star Gold lost few points and rated at 103 GRPs (110 last week) and Movies OK was at 52 GRPs (56 last week).

    Star Plus believes digital is the way forward

    (Hindi GEC Star Plus features in this the second of our series on what TV channels are doing in the digital and social media space)

    It’s the leader in the Hindi general entertainment space in India and has been so for the most part of the previous decade, and even this one. The Star India network, has been gung-ho on the online space, ever since one can remember like its owner Rupert Murdoch, who has had a fascination for it but confesses he does not know how to deal with it.

    Star India took a big punt when it acquired the much-touted indya.com way back in 2001, coughing up a hefty $50 million in buying it. It has since not known what to do with it. Just like Murdoch failed to fathom what the group could do with myspace.com, finally selling it out cheap.

    Star India‘s Indya.com fiasco looks unlikely to be repeated today. CEO Uday Shankar is quite clear on that and a crack team at the media giant has been working overtime to engage with its viewers.

    Star has been innovative in actively energising, featuring and interacting with audiences with powerful integration of online with on-screen content. All the key show launches and events now have at least one element of live engagement with the viewers. Auditions, which were earlier only limited to on-ground activities, have further been extended to the digital platform, reveals Yadav.

    In terms of video content that it uploads, Star Plus broadly classifies it into long form and short form, catch-up content, web exclusives, promos and legacy. For platforms like YouTube the channel‘s approach has been to upload short form catch-up content, which it says has been very well received. Its own video platforms have long form catch up content, along with some marquee legacy shows.

    Starplus.in and Star Player (www.startv.in) are among the two-owned platforms that it uses to encourage users to engage with the channel and download content. Data on how many downloads the Star Player app has achieved was not available at the time of writing but its Facebook page had received 93,000 likes or so.

    Apart from internet based platforms, Star Plus also leverages the reach of the voice platform through SPOM (Star Plus on Mobile – 5057827). Through its voice portal Star Plus on Mobile, the channel runs audio recaps of the daily shows, daily diaries, and voice blogs of popular characters and also title tracks of the shows.

    For some of its marquee shows like ‘Nach Baliye‘ and ‘MasterChef India‘, Star Plus has leveraged the transmedia storytelling route – where the main show has a strong storytelling leg running exclusively on digital platforms which link back meaningfully to the main show.

    Apart from this, the channel has showcased its content on the digital platform through initiatives like the web premiere of ‘Saraswatichandra‘ exclusively for digital audiences.

    Star Plus has an official Facebook page with around 2.80 million likes and hundreds of thousands of visitors talking about the channel and its programmes at any point in time. On Twitter, another vital ingredient of the social media mix, the channel has around 88,250 active followers. @StarPlus is buzzing with tweets and re-tweets every couple of hours. The numerous fan-driven handles of their popular shows are busy re-tweeting and sharing every Star update, making for a huge cacophony of views across the digital world.

Star uploads day-to-day activities, episodes that viewers may missed, comparatively, among on-air shows, fiction has an upper-hand over non -fiction shows.

    The channel’s official Facebook pages for some of its TV shows have received commendable responses from nitizens/viewers. The Facebook page of its leading fiction series ‘Diya Aur Baati Hum’ has 2.34 million likes with 2,485 active followers on Twitter. ‘Diya Aur Baati Hum’ also leads the drama genre with more than 32,304 video views on YouTube in just two days. Another fiction show ‘Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai’ bagged 20,529 video views for one of its episodes. Reality shows such as ‘India’s Dancing SuperStar’ lead with 1,18,222 video views.

    Star Plus marketing vice-president Nikhil Madhok states, “We are producing a lot of content exclusively for our digital assets, be it in the form of behind-the-scenes clips, rehearsal footage, bloopers, interviews and much more. We have even made special edits of the episode acts just for digital. For example, Chaavat Boys, which is a group of engineering students from a Mumbai college, have already become a rage online, and all their dance acts have gone viral. In fact, people have been uploading videos of their own version of Chaavatgiri.”

    Star Plus claims that ‘Nach Baliye’ generated one billion impressions online during the course of its telecast. Of these, a 100 million happened on the final episode itself, which not only trended at no 1 in India but also worldwide, it says.

    ‘Satyamev Jayate’, (SMJ) the first talk show produced by Aamir Khan Productions created a lot of buzz on social media platforms. It became the most searched query on Google immediately after its first episode. SMJ has 93,929 followers on Twitter and its official Facebook page has 1.69 million likes.

    Official pages of SMJ were launched on the big three of social media – Facebook, Twitter and YouTube, to provide a platform for fans to share their views and interact. Updates were posted at regular intervals. Video snippets and full episodes were uploaded on YouTube for fans to watch the show or a favourite segment at their convenience.

    Reports suggest that though initial conversations around SMJ were triggered by Aamir Khan’s popularity, conversations around the causes he espoused on the show took centre stage later. The reason for this trend can be assumed to be the content fed into social media platforms. The fever of the show became strong on digital as the show only aired once in a week for 1 hour on Sunday. For the rest days, they storm the viewers by different social messages by constantly updating videos and statuses and also by tweeting.

Its micro site has various engagement platforms for ‘netizens’ where all the super moms can upload their dancing video on the DID title track. A video wall with all these entries would be published during the sustenance of the show.

    Sony has had a successful integration with its network channel’s popular IPL show called Extraaa Innings T20 on Max. Besides, there is a countdown bug on the channel and a very high ratio of promo slots devoted to IIJ launch.

    The smartest move by Colors is that of the show’s Grand Premiere which is aimed at garnering maximum eye balls. The launch episode will be as big as the show itself.

    Kick starting the show will be dancing queen Madhuri who will team up with Ranbir for a stunning performance on their new item number- Ghaghra. Next to enthrall viewers will be an entertaining performance by Sushant Singh Rajput and actress Jacqueline Fernandez who will be introducing the 12 celebrity contestants.

    The launch episode week will also see the three Deols – Sunny, Bobby and Dharmendra shake a leg with the Jhalak contestants adding on to the commencement of the power packed journey of Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa.

    To further heat up the competition, Star Plus is upping the ante on its dance reality show India’s Dancing Superstar (IDS) which has been on air since 27 April at 9.00 pm. It has planned a special maha episode. Explains Star India vice-president marketing Nikhil Madhok: “For 1 June, IDS will have a two and a half hour dance ka maha episode which will start at 8 pm. The episode has one of the legends of dance, Govinda, doing something he has never done before on Indian television. Viewers will see him play a double role in an extremely entertaining dance act. The episode will also see the beginning of the face-off round, which is a very unique concept for a dance show in India.”

    Sounds great, but what is the media view of all these intense content creation and marketing initiatives that the GECs have drawn up?

    Madison’s Banerjee proffers a perspective. Says he: “Such overcrowding of reality shows on weekends will lead to cannibalisation both in terms of viewership and also revenues. Channels need to understand that with such high investment they should look for a clean window or time-bands that assures them of the best return.”

    He further points outs: “These shows can coexist with smarter planning. Next season, even advertisers will get wary of investing if average ratings of these shows come down.”

    Now that’s a piece of advice, none of the GEC players should ignore!

    MUMBAI: Week 21, TAM’s ratings. Colors was the highest gainer amongst Hindi GECs as it added 10 GRPs to increase its total to 184 for the entire week. Life OK was the next highest gainer, clipping on an additional eight GRPs to take its score to 130 GRPs, according to ratings provided by a TV channel.

    Zee TV and Colors shared the No 2 position with 184 GRPs each. Sony Entertainment was at No 3 as it shed three GRPs to end the week with 149 GRPs.

    Life OK had its special Maha episode of – Savdhan India which added 1.1 TVR to its chart. It even aired a Hindi feature film on Sunday titled ‘Dhammu’ that got 0.6 TVR.

    Star Plus held on to its pole position this week, gaining only four points to take its tally to 238 GRPs. Its chart topper Diya Aur BaatiHum retained last week‘s TVRs of 3.7 TVR. Pyaar ka Dard was the second most popular Star Plus show with 2.9 TVR (3.0 TVR last week). Its long running Yeh Rishta lost eyeballs as the show rated 2.8 TVR (2.9 TVR last week). The channel‘s new talent hunt-cum-reality show India‘s Dancing Superstar witnessed a fall to 1.8 (2.8 TVR last week) on Saturday and a slight fall on Sunday with a 2.6 TVR (2.8 TVR last week).

    Colors leading fiction series Balika Vadhu saw a minor fall to 2.6 TVR (2.8 last week) and Madhubaladropped to 2.3 TVR (2.5 last week). Another daily, Uttaran continued to stay put at its last week‘s TVR of 2.6. Sasural Simar Ka ended the week with 2.5 TVR (2.4 TVR last week). What added muscle to Colors GRPs was the 1.6 TVRs that indiantelevision.com‘s The Indian Telly Awards notched up on 25 May at 9 pm. Overall, The Indian Telly Awards added seven GRPs to Colors‘ total tally to help it get level with Zee TV this week.

    Zee TV‘s ficitonal shows seem to be shedding viewers if one goes by the fact that Qubool Haidropped to 2.5 TVR (2.8 last week), Sapne Suhane Ladakpan Ke fell to 2.0 TVR (2.4 last week),PunarVivaah which fell to 1.8 (1.9 TVR). The only gainers were Hitler Didiwhich rose to 1.3 TVR (1.2 TVR) and Pavitra Rishta which rose to 1.9 TVR (1.8 TVR) and the Mahasangam Qubool Hai episode, which generated 2.8 GRPs on 20 May. That along with Hindi feature film ‘Hum Saath Saath Hai’ which notched up a 1.0 TVR, and its reality talent show India‘s Best Dramebaaz which generated 2.5 TVR (2.0 TVR) on Saturday and 2.0 TVR (1.8 TVR) on Sunday which helped Zee hold on to its position this week.

    Third placed, Sony Entertainment‘s long running crime series CIDwitnessed a fall to 1.8 TVR (2.4 last week); whereas Crime Patrolshowed a marginal 0.1 improvement as it registered a 1.8 TVR (1.7 last week). Finally, Comedy Circus showed a drop of 0.2 taking Sony‘s tally to 1.4 TVR (1.6 last week). Other fiction shows either held on to their viewership or dipped marginally during the week.

    Fourth placed, Sab gained three GRPs ending the week with 135 GRPs and the No 4 spot. Its fiction show Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah continues to be the channel lead with 2.8 TVR (2.9 last week).

    Sahara managed to gain two GRPs but still continued to be at the bottom of the heap with 15 GRPs.

    Since the cash rich league was nearing its qualifier stage, the number of matches played trickled down to a match every two days, and that reflects in Max chopping off 59 point taking its GRPs down to 170 GRPs (229 last week).

    Movie channels too witnessed marginal increases: Zee Cinema stayed stable with 102; Star Gold rated at 110 GRPs (105 last week) and Movies OK was at 56 GRPs (54 last week).

    Star Plus held on to its pole position this week despite gaining only two points to take its tally to 234 GRPs. Its chart topper Diya Aur Baati Hum remained stable with 3.7 TVR (3.8 TVR last week). Pyaar ka Dard was the second most popular Star Plus show with 3.0 TVR (2.9 TVR last week). Its long running Yeh Rishta added eyeballs asthe show rated 2.9 TVR (2.7 TVR last week). The channel‘s new talent hunt-cum-reality show India‘s Dancing Superstar witnessed a TVR fall to 2.8 (3.0 TVR last week) on Saturday only to rise on Sunday with a 2.8 TVR (2.6 TVR last week).

    Zee TV‘s top performer was the fiction series Qubool Hai that remained stable with 2.8 TVR (2.8 last week) followed by Sapne Suhane Ladakpan Ke that witnessed a fall to 2.4 TVR (2.7 last week). Its reality talent hunt India‘s Best Dramebaaz‘s viewership witnessed a huge growth on Saturday to 2.0 TVR (1.6 last week) and remained stable Sunday with 1.8 TVR (1.8 last week).

    The controversy around the IPL 6 does not seem to be hampering Max‘s viewers‘ love for the tournament as the channel saw a five point increase in its GRPs to 229 GRPs (224 last week). Sahara continued at the bottom of the heap with with 13 GRPs.

    Movie channels too witnessed increases: Zee Cinema added 10 GRPs to end at 103; Star Gold rated at 105 GRPs (103 last week) and Movies OK was at 54 GRPs (50 last week).
