    Star Plus launches new show ‘Tere Sheher Mein’ in 10 pm slot

    MUMBAI: Star Plus is all set to launch a new daily soap titled Tere Sheher Mein.

     

    The show will launch today (2 March) and will be aired every Monday to Saturday at 10 pm. It has been produced by Directors Kut and stars Gautami Kapoor, Sachin Tyagi and Hiba Nawab amongst others.

     

    Tere Sheher Mein is the story of the rich and affluent Mathurs and their three daughters. A part of a close knit family, one of the daughters shares a special bond with her father. She doesn’t have to struggle for anything that she ever wants and that is a point of concern for her mother. The daughter comes face to face with an unexpected challenge and her life takes a 360 degree turn. She is forced to move from a comfortable life in Mumbai to Banaras and thus begins her journey of her coming of age from a pampered girl to becoming the support system for her family.

     

    “Our endeavour at Star Plus has always been to create strong characters like Sandhya, Ishita and Anjali who work hard and follow through to achieve their dreams. Tere Sheher Mein‘s Amaya is one such inspirational character. The ensemble cast of Gautami Kapoor, Sachin Tyagi and Hiba Nawab bring out the essence of the characters.”

    Q3-2015: Cinevista q-o-q income down 28 per cent

    BENGALURU: The makers of the 200 plus episodes drama Ek Hasina Thi (formerly Daag) for Star Plus, Cinevista Limited (Cinevista, formerly known as Cinevista Communications Limited) reported profit of Rs 0.89 lakh (0.06 per cent of Total Income from Operations or TIO) for the quarter ended 31 December, 2014 (Q3-2015, current quarter). This was 30.5 per cent lower than the PAT of Rs 1.28 lakh (0.14 per cent of TIO) in the corresponding quarter of last fiscal and 38.2 per cent lower than the PAT of Rs 1.44 lakh (0.07 per cent of TIO) in Q2-2015. For 9M-2015, Cinevista’s PAT at Rs 138.37 lakh (0.17 per cent of TIO) was 9.2 per cent lower than the RS 152.31 lakh (0.18 per cent of TIO) in 9M-2014.

     

    Note: 100,00,000 = 100 lakh = 10 million = 1 crore

     

    The company’s TIO for Q3-2015 at Rs 1577.73 lakh was 75.1 per cent more than Rs 901.27 lakh in Q3-2014 but 28.1 per cent less than Rs 2193.19 lakh in the immediate trailing quarter.

     

    Let us look at the other Q3-2015 and FY-2015 numbers reported by Cinevista:

     

    Simple EBIDTA for Q3-2015 at Rs 127.73 lakh (8.1 per cent of TIO) was 4.5 per cent less than Rs 133.70 lakh (14.8 per cent of TIO) in the corresponding year ago quarter, but 20.1 per cent less than Rs 159.94 lakh (7.3 per cent of TIO) in Q2-2015. For 9M-2015, EBIDTA at Rs 433.73 lakh (8.9 per cent of TIO) was 7 per cent more than the Rs 405.18 lakh (10.4 per cent of TIO) in 9M-2014.

     

    EBIDTA including other income for Q3-2015 at Rs 150.92 lakh (7.4 per cent of TIO plus other income) was 8.3 per cent more than Rs 139.35 lakh (15.4 per cent of TIO) in Q3-2014, but 6.5 per cent lower than Rs 161.44 lakh (7.4 per cent of TIO) in the immediate trailing quarter. For 9M-2015, EBIDTA including other income at Rs 461.58 lakh (9.4 per cent of TIO) was 10.6 per cent more than Rs 417.51 lakh (10.7 per cent of TIO) in 9M-2014.

     

    Cinevista’s total expenditure (TE) for Q3-2015 at Rs 1496.91 lakh (94.9 per cent of TIO) was 82.8 per cent more than Rs 819.07 lakh (90.9 per cent of TIO) in Q3-2014, but 28.2 per cent less than Rs 2079.28 lakh (94.8 per cent of TIO) in Q2-2015. For 9M-2015, TE at Rs 4572.21 lakh (93.9 per cent of TIO) was 26.1 per cent more than Rs 3627.08 lakh(93.5 per cent of TIO) in 9M-2014.

     

    A major expense head for the company is cost of production (PC).  This cost has been going up in terms of percentage of TIO. In Q3-2015, Cinevista spent Rs 1318.93 lakh (83.6 per cent of TIO) towards PC, which was more than double (2.12 times) the Rs 622.78 lakh (69.1 per cent of TIO) in the year ago quarter, but 29.6 per cent lower than Rs 1874.08 lakh (85.4 per cent of TIO) in Q2-2015. For 9M-2015, the company’s PC was 31.6 per cent more at Rs 3994.30 lakh (82.1 per cent of TIO) as compared to Rs 3035.25 lakh (78.2 per cent of TIO) in 9M-2014.

     

    Finance cost in Q3-2014 was Rs 102.85 lakh (6.5 per cent of TIO), which was 18.8 per cent more than Rs 86.57 lakh (9.6 per cent of TIO) in Q3-2014 but 10 per cent less than Rs 114.28 lakh (5.2 per cent of TIO) in the previous quarter. YTD, in 9M-2015, Cinevista’s finance cost at Rs 315.05 lakh (6.5 per cent of TI) was 22.1 per cent more than Rs 258.07 lakh (6.7 per cent of TI) in 9M-2014.

     

    At present Cinevista has another production on air on the Star Network’s Channel V India – D3 or Dil, Dosti, Dance, a dance-based fiction show that has crossed 500 episodes to date. The show premiered on 11 April 2011. The first season of Crime Patrol on Sony Entertainment Television India was created by Cinevista.

    MUMBAI: The past few weeks saw two major players Colors and Zee TV fighting for the second spot on the TAM TV ratings chart. While last week Zee TV won the battle and took over the second position, week eight of the ratings had a different story to tell.

     

    Colors finally managed to get back on the second spot with 444 million GVTs, up from 434 million GVTs. On the other hand, Zee TV noticed a huge fall and limped back to the third position with 418 million GVTs, down from 448 million GVTs.

     

    Apart from Zee TV, Life OK too saw some numbers down this week as it scored 316 million GVTs, down from 330 million GVTs.

     

    Star Plus continued to rule the charts with 636 million GVTs, up from 623 million GVTs.

     

    Both the Multi Screen Media (MSM) offerings observed a marginal rise in the viewership. Thus, Sab at number fifth position noted 286 million GVTs, up from 285 million GVTs and Sony Entertainment Television (SET) recorded 254 million GVTs, up from 253 million GVTs.

     

    As far as the other channels are concerned, Big Magic clocked 47 million GVTs, up from 46 million GVTs. Sony Pal too witnessed a significant rise and registered 39 million GVTs, up from 25 million GVTs, whereas Zindagi noted 22 million GVTs, up from 17 million GVTs.

     

    Epic observed a drop in the ratings and garnered 7.2 million GVTs, down from 8.9 million GVTs.

    MUMBAI: There has been some shuffling for the second spot inweek seven of TAM TV ratings as Zee TV took over Colors by a huge margin and spotted 448 million GVTs, down from 451 million GVTs.

     

    Colors at number three observed a huge fall in the viewership and recorded 434 million GVTs, down from 454 million GVTs.

     

    Talking about the gainers this week, only Life OK and Sony Entertainment Television (SET) were on the rise. Life OK retained its number four position with 330 million GVTs, up from 310 million GVTs; while Sony at number six with a significant rise noted 253 million GVTs, up from 236 million GVTs.

     

    Despite a drop, Star Plus continues to hold the numero uno position with 623 million GVTs, down from 645 million GVTs. Sab at number five noted 285 million GVTs, down from 294 million GVTs.

     

    On the other hand, Big Magic reported 46 million GVTs, down from 53 million GVTs, while Sony Pal observed 25 million GVTs, down from 26 million GVTs. Zindagi garnered 17 million GVTs, down from 18 million GVTs, whereas Epic continued to grab eyeballs with 8.9 million GVTs, up from 7.7 million GVTs.

    MUMBAI: In an all India voting poll initiated by Star Plus, Paneer Makhani emerged as India’s favourite veg dish among the top 10 popular dishes suggested by MasterChef judges, Sanjeev Kapoor, Vikas Khanna and Ranveer Brar.

     

    The 10 dishes which included Rajma Chawal, Dum Aloo, Sarson Da Saag, Dal Makhani, Chana Masala etc. were shortlisted by the three judges, Chef Sanjeev Kapoor, Vikas Khanna and Ranveer Brar and the resultant most favourite dish was Paneer Makhani with a whopping 40 per cent votes. Now this winning dish is to be integrated in the on air show as one of the dishes to be made. This All India poll was not just supported by the Masterchef Judges but even the other actors of Star Plus voted for their favourite dish. Chef Sanjeev Kapoor said, “Everyone has a different choice when it comes to food, people, views but nobody has ever taken the initiative to find out what the majority stands with and Star Plus has done just that by taking a step to know India’s favourite Veg dish and surprisingly it is also my favourite dish – Paneer Makhani”.

     

    Vikas Khanna, the Michelin Star Award winner said, “I value vegetarian food more after living in the States and you will be mighty surprised to know that a lot of foreigners as well support vegetarianism…as veg food too has several choices and flavours. I am glad that this not just another research because this initiative will be taken a step forward by the MasterChef kitchen by including the dish in our show”.

    MUMBAI: Come 14 February and television will play cupid to couch potatoes, who wish to spend the day at home. Obviously, not missing out on the opportunity, TV channels present a hearty meal to the viewers from romance and love specials to blockbuster movies.

    Star Plus intends to pull at viewers’ heart strings by airing a special two and a half hour extravaganza of love with leading Star Plus couples on 15 February at 9 pm. The Valentine Day special event will see popular faces of Star Plus’ shows performing to a medley of passionate numbers from Bollywood of 2014 to romantic songs including biggest hits from movie Aashiqui 2.

    Star wants to make this day even more special, bigger and better with its special #IThankYou campaign and an on air celebration of love with Star Valentine’s Day – Muskurane Ki Wajah Tum Ho. The campaign is a unique thought that gave Star Plus viewers the opportunity to thank their loved ones this V-Day. It was actively promoted on-air and across digital platforms with four leading protagonists (Sandhya, Ishita, Nisha and Anjali) explaining the concept of #IThankU and urging viewers to share their picture stories with Star Plus. The selected winners along with the loved ones will be given a chance to meet and greet their favourite celebrities on 14 February, 2015.

    On digital, the buzz was kept alive through active tweets of Star Plus celebrities of their #IThankU stories and urging fans to share the same. Exclusive vignettes of #IThankYou stories of key shows like MasterChef and Tu Mera Hero were shared across all the digital platforms. The campaign was rolled out on 4 February, 2015 and will culminate on 14 February, 2015.

    On the other hand, to add the glamour quotient, Zee TV has got Sunny Leone to sizzle on its special Valentine’s Day show Locha – E – Ulfat. Dressed to kill in the hues of love, Leone grooved to some of her popular numbers like Baby doll mein sone kipink lips and 4 bottle vodka. Celebrating love in all flavours, it will air on 15 February at 5 pm. The story revolves around a man, Birju, played by popular comedian Sunil Grover who fell in love when he was a child, but as destiny had it, his heart was crushed by the love of his life. He stopped believing in love and grew up to be an angry, young man who hates love stories but only till he sees the sensational Sunny Leone. From entertaining performances, rib-tickling humour, loads of glitz and glamour, oodles of masti and dhamaal, the show will also feature performances by popular lead couples from Zee TV performing on the dance numbers.

    Life OK is going to celebrate the day in a different style. The channel’s comedy offering – Comedy Classes will celebrate the day by spoofing on one of the biggest and most romantic movies of all time – Hum Aapke Hain Kaun. The show, which is known to spoof on celebrated movies will definitely leave viewers laughing throughout as the ace comedian Bharti Singh will play the character of Nisha, which was played by Madhuri Dixit.

    Salman Khan’s character Prem is played by Siddharth Sagar while Krushna Abhishek will play Mohnish Behl in the show. This special episode will air on 12 and 13 February at 10 pm.

    Sab TV’s most watched show in the comedy genre – Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah is celebrating the season of love in a filmy way. The residents of Gokuldham Society will go all romantic for their respective wives this Valentine’s by dedicating poems written by them. The episode will air on 14 February.

    Not to forget the ones who own the occasion, youth channels too have some interesting programs lined up. To celebrate the essence of Valentine’s Day, bindass’ cult relationship show Yeh Hai Aashiqui that showcases unconventional love stories came up with a month long series called Love Heroes that highlights the role and importance of a cupid in the love story. Popular television actor Rithvik Dhanjani is seen as the host of the show and taking the viewers through the plots of some amazing love stories every week. To top it all, in order to celebrate love, bindass held a contest for couples who wanted to share stories of their cupid.

    Movie channels too are busy showering some romantic movies to the viewers. Sony Max plays cupid this day as it showcases Ishq Wala Shanivaara, a day-long movie festival featuring the best Bollywood romantic movies. Airing on 14 February, the channel spreads the love with back to back romantic comedies and dramas.

    The movie marathon consists of handpicked fan favourites airing from 7 am in the morning with Shudd Desi Romance, and culminating with Heropanti at 11 pm. The romantic extravaganza consists of various love themed movies which showcase how love emerges victorious in spite of the odds. Ishq Wala Shanivaar will get television audiences acquainted with the different faces of love, from modern-day love (Shudd Desi Romance) to, tragic love (Aashiqui 2), love and friendship (Mujhse Dosti Karoge) to love across lifetimes (Magadheera) and love set against a violent landscape (Heropanti).

    On its sister channel, Max 2, it will take viewers on a romantic journey. The channel has lined up a series of romantic movies titled Love ne bana de Jodi for viewers, beginning 8 February until 14 February. Consisting of classics from the 1950s till the 1990s the movie festival will pluck at the heart strings of viewers.

    Comprising of iconic films ranging from Chori Chori, Silsila to Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak, the movie festival will charm the viewers with seven romantic movies.

    Keeping the ethos of airing differentiated content alive, Star Gold, Home of Bollywood Blockbuster Premieres, chooses to celebrate this year’s Valentine’s Day with a romantic thriller – Ek Villain on 14 February at 8 pm. The World TV Premiere of this romantic-thriller will be showcased immediately after Valentine’s Week Special: a weeklong line-up of romantic comedies dedicated to the day of romance. Being a love story with a thrilling twist along with a stream of melodious, chart-topping music, the movie makes for the perfect valentine viewing.

    This romantic season, Movies OK will bring to its viewers a heart-felt love story disrupted by diverse cultural barriers with the premiere of 2 States; a romantic saga starring superstar-duo Arjun Kapoor and Alia Bhatt. Directed by Abhishek Verman, the movie will air on 14 February at 8 pm.

    Comedy Central is celebrating love by gifting viewers 10 hours of the most loved and acclaimed show Impractical Jokers on 14 February from 10 am to 8 pm. It is a hidden-camera series that follows four lifelong friends — Brian “Q” Quinn, James “Murr” Murray, Joe Gatto and Sal Vulcano — who take dares to an outrageous level.

    Over the years, Vh1 has given viewers love songs and set the mood for the special day. This year, the channel wants to know who is your bae? It can be a guy or a girl and doesn’t need to be someone op the opposite sex.     Gone are the days when Valentine’s Day was celebrated amongst couples. This time around Nicktoons is all set to make the day of love exciting for kids across India. Nick has brought back its Kaun Banega Valentoon contest on Nickelodeon. The contest ran on Nick from 2 February to 10 February. As a gratification, kids get a chance to meet their valentoon on Valentine’s Day. The promotions have also been done through Social media posts and the winners will be announced on 14 February.

    On the other hand, Sonic presents an exciting movie marathon for its viewers from 15 to 21 February. From Motu Patlu series to Pakdam Pakdai to Keymon & Nani in Space Adventure, it is set to melt the hearts of the young kids.

    MUMBAI: Its spot at the number two position was just limited for a week as the general entertainment channel (GEC) Zee TV went back to its number three position in week six of TAM TV ratings. The channel observed a huge fall and scored 450,944 GVTs, down from 485,396 GVTs. 

     

    Despite a fall, Colors regained its number two position with 454,157 GVTs, down from 476,976 GVTs. 

     

    Star Plus was the only gainer this week as it reported 645,013 GVTs, up from 616,431 GVTs. Life OK stayed happy at number four with 309,669 GVTs, down from 337,642 GVTs. 

     

    Sab at number five generated 293,685 GVTs, down from 294,412 GVTs and at number six Sony Entertainment Television (SET) garnered 235,501 GVTs, down from 263,082 GVTs.   

     

    The popular show from Star Plus – Diya Aur Baati Hum topped the general entertainment space with 10,908 TVTs, up from 10,674 TVTs. Ye Hai Mohababtein from Star too had a clear win and stood strong at number two with 9,129 TVTs, up from 8,595 TVTs and Saathiya Saath occupied the third spot with 8,975 TVTs, up from 8,557 TVTs. 

     

    Zee TV’s Kumkum Bhagya stood at the fourth spot with 8,909 TVTs, up from 8,443 TVTs followed by Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai that clocked 8,613 TVTs, up from 8,147 TVTs. 

     

    At the sixth spot stood Colors’ reality game show – Fear Factor: Khatron Ke Khiladi 6, which opened at 8,593 TVTs. The channel’s fiction offering Sasural Simar Ka too grabbed eyeballs as it observed seventh position at the ratings chart and delivered 7,779 TVTs, up from 7,303 TVTs. 

     

    Sab’s chart leader Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah grabbed the eighth spot and scored 7,329 TVTs, up from 6,822 TVTs. Zee TV’s fiction offering Jamai Raja occupied the ninth position with 7,301 TVTs, up from 6,899 TVTs.

     

    Last but not the least, at the tenth spot stood Star Plus’ fiction property – Tu Mera Hero, which generated 7,143 TVTs, up from 6,289 TVTs.

    Zindagi appoints Star Plus’ Bharti Sharma as programming head

    MUMBAI: It was in June 2014, when Zee Entertainment Enterprises Limited (Zeel) launched a channel nationally, christened Zindagi, for progressive mindset and people who do not have a language barrier. With the best of content from across the border, the network had appointed a separate team for the channel.

     

    The first change in the team happened with the exit of the network’s marketing head for national channels Akash Chawla quitting and moving to Essel Vision Productions as business head. The team is further set for a change.

     

    Now it is learnt from a highly placed source that Vanita Jain, who wears the hat of the programming head, has already resigned from the post and relinquished her position last week. The channel has roped in former Star Plus associate creative producer Bharti Sharma in place of Jain.

     

    Sources tell Indiantelevision.com that Sharma has already joined Zindagi on 9 February, 2015 and will report to the channel’s business head Priyanka Datta.

     

    Sharma was part of the programming fiction team at Star and used to report to Star Plus’ fiction programming head Danish Khan. She was involved creatively in projects like Mahabharat. Her last day at Star was on 6 February, 2015.

    MUMBAI: Mumbai’s dabbawalas are as important to the city as its lifeline, local trains. In recognition of their services in delivering with precision freshly made food to customers across the maximum city, Star Plus is undertaken a first of its kind initiative for dabbawalas. 

     

    Through a unique initiative, Sanjeev Kapoor and Team MasterChef India served a delicious treat to Mumbai’s dabbawalas as a token of their appreciation. 

     

    Kapoor, who is also the judge of MasterChef India-4, conferred the title of ‘Pyaar Ke Postmen’ upon the Mumbai dabbawalas and redefined the role played by them in the food industry. “Star Plus is the pioneer in bringing food on the forefront of Indian television and I am extremely happy with the initiative that Star Plus took in acknowledging the Dabbawalas for rendering a valuable service to the society. I only make food but the other part of my job is done by these Dabbawalas who make our food reach the mouths of the people. Dabbawalas are not just the carriers of food but also do the task of spreading joy and smiles. They are the ones who add true value to the food we cook. These Dabbawalas are the backbone of the population of Mumbai and may they continue to be for a lifetime. Star Plus and the MasterChef India team salute their undying spirit and hard-work,” he said.

     

    Chef Ranveer Brar, who is also the judge on MasterChef India-4, added, “Food has always been an integral part of every relationship in the Indian cultural context and the Masterchef India team showed its appreciation for the role these Dabbawallas play in binding the family together through food. Unfortunately, due to prior commitments I could not be a part of the activity but I am thankful to the Mumbai Dabbawalas for making delivering the food cooked for loved ones on time.”

     

    The Dabbawalas were delighted by the initiative of Star Plus appreciating their role in the food industry. “We, the dabbawalas, are highly motivated because we believe that delivering food to Mumbaikars is like a service to God, similar to giving medicine to the sick. We are thankful to the MasterChef India team for recognizing our efforts,” said a dabbawala.

    Colors ropes in Deepak Chhabria as fiction programming head

    MUMBAI: Colors has brought on board Star Plus creative director Deepak Chhabria as fiction programming head. 

     

    It was in October last year when Indiantelevision.com first reported about Colors weekday programming head Prashant Bhatt putting in his papers and non-fiction head Manisha Sharma being awarded with extra responsibilities of the entire programming department of the channel. 

     

    Chhabria joined Colors almost a month back and reports directly to Sharma. 

     

    When contacted, Colors CEO Raj Nayak as well as Chhabria confirmed the development. 

     

    Chhabria, who had been associated with Star for eight long years, was heading the creative aspect at Star Plus.

     

    For the record, in the year 2012, Colors had split its programming unit into two separate teams to bring more focus on content for weekdays and weekends. Wherein, Bhatt was in-charge of the weekday fiction programming and Sharma was responsible for non-fiction content.
