    Sun TV regains top spot in week 40: Barc

    Mumbai: Garnering weekly AMAs of 2844.59 (‘000s), Sun TV emerged as the most viewed channel in Broadcast Audience Research Council (Barc) week 40 (2 to 8 October 2021). The Tamil GEC replaced Star Plus which had been ruling the position for the past two weeks. Star Plus slipped to the second spot with 2788.88 AMA.

    Star Sports 1 Hindi maintained its hold on the third spot with 2609.43 (‘000s) AMA. Star Maa, Star Vijay, Star Utsav, Colors, Sony SAB, Zee Telugu, and Zee TV followed in that order.

    The mega cities were also led by Sun TV at 493.9 AMA. Star Plus, Colors, Star Vijay, and Star Sports 1 Hindi grabbed the remaining four positions.

    With 2838.2 (‘000s), Sun TV was the leader in the South market as well. Star Maa, Star Vijay, Zee Telugu, and Zee Kannada were at the second to fifth spots.

    Among the regional markets, Maharashtra/Goa was dominated by Star Pravah with 1263.24 AMA. Zee Bangla was the top performer (1085.45) in West Bengal, Tarang (415.14) in Odisha, Zee Kannada (1401.55) in Karnataka, and Star Utsav (206.81) in Rajasthan.

    Clocking 291.14 (‘000s) AMA, Dangal made a surprise entry at the top position in UP/Uttarakhand, replacing long-time leader Zee Anmol which slipped to the third spot making way for Star Utsav as the second most viewed channel.

    Mumbai: Star Maa, the Telugu GEC from Star Network has toppled Tamil GEC Sun TV to emerge as the top channel in the Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC) India list for week 36 (4-10 September).

    The channel recorded weekly AMAs of 2838.83 as against 2494.98 AMAs in week 35 when it was at the third spot. Hindi GEC Star Plus found itself at the second position with 2817.67 (‘000s) AMA, followed by Sun TV which finished third with 2789.9 AMA.

    The last few weeks have witnessed a tough competition between Sun TV and Star Plus, slugging it out for the top spot in the BARC list of most-viewed channels. Colors, Star Vijay, Star Utsav, Sony SAB, Zee Telugu, Sony Pal, and Zee Kannada grabbed the remaining positions.

    However, in the megacities, Sun TV was able to retain its top position with 510.04 AMA. Star Plus, Colors, Star Vijay, and Sony SAB followed in that order.

    The South market maintained last week’s status with Sun TV leading at 2784.92 AMA. It was followed by Star Maa, Star Vijay, Zee Telugu, and Zee Kannada.

    In Maharashtra/Goa, audiences showed a clear preference for Star Pravah as the channel registered weekly AMAs of 1434.7 (‘000s). With 1068.12 AMA, Star Jalsha led the Bengal market. Tarang, at 417.1 AMA was the most viewed channel in Odisha, Zee Kannada (1470.42) in Karnataka, Star Utsav (256.75) in Rajasthan, and Zee Anmol (361.09) in UP/Uttarakhand.

    Mumbai: Tamil GEC Sun TV continues to dominat the list of top ten most viewed channels in week 35 with 2785.23 AMA, according to the Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC) India. Gaining hold on the second and third positions were Star Plus and Star Maa (Telugu) with weekly AMAs of 2708.94 and 2494.98 respectively, between 28 August and 3 September.

    Sony SAB, Colors, Star Vijay (Tamil), Star Utsav, Zee Telugu, Zee TV, and Zee Kannada followed in that order.

    In the mega cities, Sun TV dominated the charts again, recording a weekly AMA of 472.08 (000s). Star Plus, Colors, Star Vijay, and Sony SAB grabbed the remaining four spots.

    The South market too was led by Sun TV at 2779.3 AMA. It was followed by Star Maa, Star Vijay, Zee Telugu, and Zee Kannada.

    Star Pravah led the Maharashtra/Goa market with 1457.01AMA. At 1156.05, Star Jalsha was the most viewed channel in West Bengal, Tarang in Odisha (452.8), Zee Kannada in Karnataka (1495.16), Star Utsav in Rajasthan (231.84), and Zee Anmol (330.45) in Uttar Pradesh/Uttarakhand.

    Mumbai: Regional GECs Sun TV (Tamil) and Star Maa (Telugu) have toppled long-time leader Star Plus to lead the tally for Barc Week 33 (14 August to 20 August) at the first and second positions. While Sun TV bagged 2651.23 AMA (2710.62 in Week 32), Star Maa’s weekly AMA stood at 2625.34 (2701.4 in Week 32) according to Broadcast Audience Research Council (Barc).

    With 2595.11 (000s) AMA, Star Plus was at the third spot. It was the most viewed channel registering 2747.77 (000s) AMA last week. Clearly, the overall average minute audience saw a sharp dip in week 33.

    Colors, Star Utsav, Sony SAB, Star Vijay, ZEE Kannada, and ZEE Telugu followed in that order. Colors Rishtey replaced ZEE Anmol at the tenth position.

    Colors dominated the Mega Cities with 442.37 (000s) AMA. Sun TV, Star Plus, Sony SAB and Star Vijay grabbed the remaining four spots.

    Sun TV (2644.04 AMA), Star Maa, and Star Vijay were the top three players in the South market, followed by ZEE Kannada and ZEE Telugu.

    Star Pravah led the Maharashtra/Goa market with 1478.59 AMA. At 1068.4, Star Jalsha was the most viewed channel in West Bengal, Tarang in Odisha (422.6), ZEE Kannada in Karnataka (1595.46), Star Utsav in Rajasthan (255.75) and ZEE Anmol (348.98) in UP/Uttarakhand.

    Mumbai: As per BARC TV viewership data for Week 32 (7 August to 13 August 2021), Star Plus was the most viewed channel registering an average minute audience of 2747.77 (000s) AMA. The Hindi GEC was at the top position last week as well with 2899.7 (000s) AMA.

    Regional GECs Sun TV and Star Maa continued to battle it out for the next two spots for the third consecutive week. With 2710.62 AMA the Tamil major Sun TV bagged the second position (2690.63 AMA in Week 31). Star Maa (Telugu) finished third at 2701.4 AMA (2719.88 AMA in Week 31).

    Maintaining last week’s status quo at the fourth to eighth positions were Colors, Star Utsav, Sony SAB, Star Vijay, and Zee Telugu. FTA Hindi movie channel Dhinchaak was displaced from the ninth spot by ZEE Kannada this week. Zee Anmol retained the tenth position with 1565.1 (000s) AMA.

    In the Mega Cities Star Plus was toppled from the first spot by Sun TV (452.33 AMA). Colors stood second with 435.74 AMA. Sony SAB and Star Vijay bagged the fourth and fifth place.

    The South market was dominated by Sun TV (2703.77 AMA), Star Maa, Star Vijay, Zee Telugu and Zee Kannada in that order.

    Among the regional markets, Maharashtra/Goa was led by Star Pravah at1359.68 AMA, West Bengal by ZEE Bangla (1029.19 AMA), Odisha by Tarang (429.26 AMA), Karnataka by ZEE Kannada (1593.04 AMA), Rajasthan by Star Utsav (257.52 AMA) and UP/Uttarakhand by Zee Anmol (368.38 AMA).

    Mumbai: Retaining its hold on the top position in BARC’s week 31 (31 July – 6 August) viewership ratings, STAR Plus recorded an average minute audience (AMA) of 2899.7. The channel has registered 2940.4 (000s) AMA in week 30.

    STAR Maa and Sun TV exchanged places with the former bagging the second spot this time with 2719.88 AMA (2650.87 in week 30). Sun TV finished third at 2690.63 AMA (2693.6 in week 30).

    The top three channels were followed by COLORS, STAR Utsav, Sony SAB, STAR Vijay, ZEE Telugu, Dhinchaak, and ZEE Anmol in that order. Dhinchaak moved one place up from the tenth position last week, while ZEE Anmol made an entry at the last spot, knocking off Sony Pal which was at the ninth position in week 30.

    In the mega cities, STAR Plus topped the chart with 481.52 (000s) AMA, followed by COLORS, Sun TV, Sony SAB, and STAR Vijay.

    The South market was dominated by Tamil GEC, Sun TV (2683.23 AMA). STAR Maa (Telugu), STAR Vijay (Tamil), ZEE Telugu, and ZEE Kannada followed.   

    In the regional markets, Maharashtra/Goa showed a clear preference for STAR Pravah which clocked 1460.2 (000s) AMA. STAR Jalsha was the most viewed channel (1032.4) in West Bengal, Tarang (421.88) in Odisha, ZEE Kannada (1479.08) in Karnataka, STAR Utsav (246.6) in Rajasthan, and ZEE Anmol (402.48) in UP/Uttarakhand.

    New Delhi: The Broadcast Council of India (BARC)’s week 27 viewership chart witnessed a close contest between STAR Plus and Sun TV, with the former emerging on top yet again in the All-India ratings.

    STAR Plus recorded a weekly average minute audience (AMA) of 2991.78, slightly ahead of south major Sun TV which clocked an AMA of 2708.41. The two channels were followed by STAR MAA, STAR Utsav and SONY SAB in that order for week 27 (3 July to 9 July).

    Colors found itself on the sixth spot with an AMA of 1990.56, followed by STAR Vijay, Colors Rishtey, Zee Telugu and Sony Pal. The list was yet again dominated by STAR India network. (Data: All India 2+)

    However, Colors performed much better in the mega cities especially Delhi where it clinched the top slot. Overall, STAR Plus led the viewership chart across mega cities, followed by Colors, Sun TV, SONY SAB and STAR Vijay. (Source: Mega Cities 2+)

    In the southern market, Sun TV continued to dominate the viewership ratings with an AMA of 2702.35, followed by STAR Maa, STAR Vijay, Zee Telugu and Zee Kannada.

    The scenario was slightly different in the regional markets. While STAR Pravah and Zee Marathi topped the list in Maharashtra/Goa, Zee Bangla remained most viewed in West Bengal, Zee Kannada in Karnataka, and STAR Utsav in Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand, and Tarang in Odisha.

    New Delhi: Hindi General Entertainment Channel STAR Plus continues to reign Television rating week after week, riding high on the popularity of its primetime shows. According to Broadcasting Audience Research Council (BARC)’s latest data for week 25, STAR Plus has toppled Sun TV to secure its place as the most viewed channel across the country for the second consecutive week.

    According to the TV rating agency, STAR Plus recorded the Average Minute Audience (AMA) of 2961.93 in the week starting from 19 June to 25 June, with Sun TV trailing at AMA of 2689.83. AMA is indicative of the viewership of a channel and reflects the number of individuals of a target audience who viewed an ‘Event’ averaged across minutes.

    Sun TV is followed by STAR Maa, SONY SAB, STAR Utsav, Colors, Zee Telugu, Colors Rishtey, Sony Pal, and STAR Vijay in the BARC’s list of top ten channels across the country during week 25 (Data: All India 2+). Four Star India network channels figured in the top ten channel list.

    STAR Plus has dethroned Sun TV as the most viewed channel in the megacities. According to the data, Sun TV topped the viewership chart across megacities during week 23 and week 24, until it was toppled by STAR Plus in week 25 with an AMU of 475.68, with Sun TV at 470.59 (Data: Mega-Cities 2+)

    STAR Plus’ show Anupamaa helmed by actors Rupali Ganguly and Sudhanshu Pandey has remained an audience favourite ever since it was launched, along with Imlie.

    BARC has recently updated the way it doles out data in the public domain. Apart from the national viewership ratings, now it also provides weekly viewership data based on states and union territories.

    As the second wave of the pandemic recedes, Star India Network has managed to keep its viewers engaged, across most geographies, except South India, where Sun TV seems to be the dominant channel. The data for the last three weeks shows Sun TV remains on top in South India (Data: South 2+), as well as in Tamil Nadu/Pondicherry. In Karnataka, Zee Kannada rules the viewership charts, while Zee Sarthak leads in Odisha.

     

    However, elsewhere Star Network/Asianet channels seem to be amongst the most-watched channels. This includes Andhra Pradesh/Telangana, Kerala, West Bengal, Assam/Northeast, Delhi, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Maharashtra/Goa, Madhya Pradesh/Chhattisgarh, Punjab/Chandigarh where Star Network channels continue to strike a chord with the viewers.

    In West Bengal, STAR Jalsha continues to emerge at the top of the table in June, followed by Zee Bangla, with Jalsha movies trailing far behind. (Data: West Bengal 2+). 

  • BARC week 22: Star Plus continues to reign pay platforms

    Mumbai: Hindi general entertainment channel (GEC) Star Plus continues to maintain its hold on the top position in the list of channels on the pay platform, according to the Broadcast Audience Research Council of India (BARC) for Week 22 (29 May to 4 June). 

    The channel recorded an average minute audience of 2873.92, thanks to its show Anupamaa, which has remained a viewers’ favourite ever since it went live. Star Plus is followed by Sony SAB (2462.64), Colors (1511.73), and Sony Entertainment Television (1332.12) at the second, third, and fourth spots, respectively. 

    With an AMA of 1238.61, Zee TV bagged the fifth spot. The remaining channels in the list of Hindi GEC pay platforms are Star Utsav (884.02), Star Bharat (719.62), Sony Pal (598.04), Colors Rishtey (485.73), and Dangal (451.54). 

    Star Utsav topped the free platforms’ list with 1941.52 AMA, followed by Colors Rishtey (1096.41) and Zee Anmol (1013.33) in the second and third spots, respectively. The fourth spot was bagged by Sony Pal (938.99), while Dangal (762.41) got the fifth spot in the week 22 list released by BARC. 

    The remaining channels in the week 22 list of free platforms are The Q (660.49), Big Magic (336.32), Shemaroo TV (136.37), DD Retro (17.43), and DD National (16.79).

    Star Utsav topped in the rural market with 2017.55 AMA, while Colors Rishtey bagged the second spot with 1134.63 AMA. Sony Pal (993.01), Zee Anmol (979.07), and Star Plus (944.35) bagged the third, fourth, and fifth spots respectively in BARC’s week 22 list in the rural market. 

    Other channels which found their top spots in the rural market are Sony SAB (800.46), Dangal (793.64), The Q (637.3), Colors (504.77), and Zee TV (497.23). 

    In the urban market, Star Plus bagged the top spot with 1943.01 AMA, followed by Sony SAB (1686.69), and Colors (1013.78) in the second and third spots respectively. The remaining channels in the list are Sony Entertainment Television (919.24), Star Utsav (808), Zee TV (743.53), Sony Pal (544.01), Star Bharat (499.21), Colors Rishtey (447.51), and Dangal (420.19).

    Mumbai: Star Utsav has topped the list of most-watched Hindi GEC channels across all platforms, released by the Broadcast Audience Research Council of India (BARC) for week 21 (22 May to 28 May 2021). The channel also bagged the top spot in the list of free platforms, while it was placed sixth in the list of paid platforms. 

    In the list of paid platforms, Star Plus continued its dominance with 2792.69 Average Minute Audience (AMA), followed by Sony SAB in the second spot with 2520.82 AMA. Colors and Sony Entertainment Television bagged the third and fourth spot in the pay platform with 1449.93 and 1294.56 AMA respectively. The remaining channels in the top 10 list of Hindi GEC pay platforms are Zee TV (1278.53), Star Utsav (928.53), Star Bharat (721.95), Sony Pal (629.86), Dangal (467.47), and Colors Rishtey (429.25). Star Utsav topped the category of free platforms with 2037.08 AMA, followed by Colors Rishtey (1077.12) and Zee Anmol (1043.52) in the second and third spots respectively. Sony Pal bagged the fourth spot in the free category with 945.33 AMA.

    Other television channels that found their place in this BARC list of free Hindi GEC are Dangal (778.15), The Q (772.12), Big Magic (326.58), Shemaroo TV (137.4), DD National (21.77), and DD Retro (21.29). The most-watched Hindi GEC in the rural market is Star Utsav with 2104.48 AMA. Other Hindi GECs included in the top 10 list of the rural market are Colors Rishtey, Zee Anmol, Sony Pal, Star Plus, Dangal, Sony SAB, The Q, Zee TV, and Colors. 

    In the urban market, Star Plus topped the list with 1869.27 AMA, followed by Sony SAB (1721.53), Colors (983.04), and Sony Entertainment Television (918.03) in the second, third and fourth spots respectively. Other channels in this list of top Hindi GECs in the urban regions are Star Utsav, Zee TV, Sony Pal, Star Bharat, Dangal, and Colors Rishtey. 

    Star Utsav topped the all-category list which is a compilation of both pay and free platforms with 2965.61 AMA, followed by Star Plus, Sony SAB, and Sony Pal in the second, third and fourth spots respectively. Other channels in the all-category list are Colors Rishtey, Colors, Sony Entertainment Television, Zee Anmol, Zee TV, and Dangal.
