    Hindi GEC: Star Plus slips in 3 markets, Colors reclaims leadership in urban

    MUMBAI: Colors has reclaimed its leadership position in Hindi GEC genre’s urban market in week 33 of BARC’s all-India data, pushing Star Plus to the second position. Star Plus, in the rural market, slipped two slots to the eighth position. In the urban + rural market, Star Plus slipped a slot to the fourth position. In the same market, Big Magic and Colors, respectively, pocketed the sixth and seventh positions.

    Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Little Champs on Zee TV and Khatron Ke Khiladi on Colors  ranked as first and second best among the GEC programmes this week.

    Hindi GEC (urban)

    Colors has reclaimed its leadership position in Hindi GEC genre’s urban market with 414753 Impressions (000s) sum, pushing Star Plus to the second position with 409961 Impressions (000s) sum. 

    Zee TV, Sony Sab and Sony Entertainment bagged the third, fourth and fifth positions respectively with 379772 Impressions (000s) sum, 2888468 Impressions (000s) sum, 280912 Impressions (000s) sum. Life OK, &tv and Sony Pal pocketed the sixth, seventh and eighth positions respectively with 215349 Impressions (000s) sum, 164278 Impressions (000s) sumand 156309 Impressions (000s) sum.

    Zee Anmol and Rishtey came at the ninth and tenth positions, respectively, with 145461 Impressions (000s) sum and 133455 Impressions (000s) sum.

    Hindi GEC (rural) 

    In this market, Zee Anmol, Sony Pal, Rishtey, Zee TV and Star Utsav retained their respective first, second, third, fourth and fifth positions with 526017 Impressions (000s) sum, 395287 Impressions (000s) sum, 382416 Impressions (000s) sum, 248686 Impressions (000s) sum and 238426 Impressions (000s) sum.

    Big Magic and Colors climbed a spot each to reach sixth and seventh position with 191008 Impressions (000s) sum and 188848 Impressions (000s) sum. On the eighth position appeared Star Plus (187393) with a fall of two slots as compared to week 32.

    Life OK and Sony Sab came at the ninth and tenth positions 121415 Impressions (000s) sum and 108412 Impressions (000s) sum.

    Hindi GEC (U+R)

    Retaining the first and second positions respectively in week 33 were Zee Anmol and Zee TV with 671478 Impressions (000s) sum and 628459 Impressions (000s) sum. Colors and Star Plus interchanged their last week’s positions to appear at third and fourth positions this week, respectively.

    Sony Pal, Rishtey and Sony Sab with 551597 Impressions (000s) sum, 515871 Impressions (000s) sum and 396881 Impressions (000s) sum respectively retained the fifth, sith and seventh positions. 

    Sony Utsav, Life OK and Star Utsav bagged the eight, ninth and tenth positions with 387798 Impressions (000s) sum,  336765 Impressions (000s) sum and 313710 Impressions (000s) sum.

    Hindi GEC: Star Plus reclaims top urban slot & Zee Anmol retains lead in two markets

    MUMBAI: In the Hindi GEC genre this week, Star Plus has reclaimed its top slot and Zee Anmol has retained its leadership in two markets — Hindi GEC (rural plus urban) and Hindi GEC – rural, according to BARC India all-India week 32 data.

    Hindi GEC (U+R)

    Zee Anmol continued to lead in the Hindi GEC (U+R) with 665948 Impressions (000s) sum followed by Zee TV at second slot with 608343 Impressions (000s) sum.

    Star Plus replaced Colors on the third slot with 586614 Impressions (000s) sum and Colors grabbed the fourth slot this week with 568765 Impressions (000s) sum followed by Sony Pal on the fifth spot with 556217 Impressions (000s) sum. Rishtey stood at the number sixth with 492683 Impressions (000s) sum and Sab TV bagged the seventh spot with 409668 Impressions (000s) sum.

    Sony Entertainment Television slipped to number eight and recorded 400952 Impressions (000s) sum followed by Life OK and Star Utsav at the nine and tenth positions with 346705 Impressions (000s) sum and 304324 Impressions (000s) sum, respectively.  

    Hindi GEC Rural

    In this market, Zee Anmol retained its leadership position with 522050 Impressions (000s) sum followed by Sony Pal on second slot with 398208 Impressions (000s) sum and Rishety with 369166 Impressions (000s) sum stood at number three.

    Zee TV retained its fourth position with 245837 Impressions (000s) sum and Star Utsav bagged the fifth spot with 231605 Impressions (000s) sum followed by Star Plus on the sixth level with 187340 Impressions (000s) sum. Big Magic held the seventh spot with 182799 Impressions (000s) sum and Colors stood at number eight position with 174680 Impressions (000) sum, respectively.

    Life OK and Sab TV bagged the ninth spot with 131652 Impressions (000s) sum and Sab TV with 118539 Impressions (000s) sum was at the tenth position this week.

    Hindi GEC Urban

    After slipping to the second position last week, Star Plus reclaimed its leadership position this week with 399274 Impressions (000s) sum followed by Colors in the second slot with 394085 Impressions (000s) and Zee TV retained its third spot with 362506 Impressions (000s) sum.  

    Sony Entertainment Television, Sab TV and Life OK stood at the fourth, fifth and sixth spots with 293977 Impressions (000) sum, 291129 Impressions (000s) and 215052 Impressions (000s) sum, respectively.

    Sony Pal bagged seventh space with 158009 Impressions (000s) sum and &TV fell on eight 156354 Impressions (000s) sum.

    Zee Anmol and Rishtey grabbed ninth and tenth spot with 143898 Impressions (000s) sum and  123516 Impressions (000s) sum, respectively.

  • Zeel channels continue to lead, Star Vijay makes maiden entry

    BENGALURU: Zee Entertainment Enterprises Limited (Zeel) flagship Hindi GEC Zee TV, last week, led Hindi GECs’ in Broadcast Audience Research Council of India (BARC) list of top 10 channels across genre list.  

    Zee TV was the second most watched channel across genre following the Sun TV Network’s Tamil flagship GEC Sun TV and followed one rank behind by its sister FTA Hindi GEC channel Zee Anmol at third rank in week 30. This week – week 31 – Saturday, 29 July 2017 to Friday, 4 August 2017, it is Zee Anmol that stands second in BARC’s list of top 10 channels across genre list, following Sun TV and followed by Zee TV.

    Star India’s Tamil flagship GEC made its maiden entry in 2017 in the top ten channels across genre list. It is also for the first time in 2017 that two Tamil channels have made it to the top 10 across genre list

    Three Star India channels, and two channels each from the Zeel, Network 18 (Viacom 18) Network, and Sony Pictures Network (SPN) and one channel from the Sun TV Network made it to BARC’s top 10 channels across genre list in week 31 of 2017. Putting it from the markets point of view – Two Tamil channels, one Hindi movie and Telugu channel each and six Hindi GEC channels formed the list.

    Sun TV once again took its fixed pole position with 989.801 million weekly impressions followed by Zee Anmol with 713.472 million weekly impressions at second spot. Zee TV was at third rank with 696.319 million weekly impressions followed by Network 18’s Hindi flagship GEC with 665.958 million weekly impressions.   Star India’s Hindi flagship GEC Star Plus was at fifth rank in week 31 with 650.130 million weekly impressions. Last week, Star Plus was fourth and Colors fifth.

    Network 18’s FTA Hindi GEC Rishtey came in sixth with 572.328 million weekly impressions followed by Star India’s Telugu flagship GEC Star Maa at seventh with 569.216 million weekly impressions. SPN’s women show centric channel Sony Pal was eighth with 552.221 million impressions followed by its sister Hindi Movies channel Sony Max with 509.365 million impressions. Star Vijay at tenth place with 502.284 million impressions completed the list.

    Zee Anmol and Zee TV have also topped BARC’s Hindi GEC (U+R) list with three of its shows – one reality show and two family dramas (Kumkum Bhagya and its spinoff Kumkum Kundali) among the top five programmes in the Hindi GEC genre. Further, Zee Anmol also topped the ratings in the Hindi GEC (Rural) market and two of its shows were ranked second and third in BARC’s list of top five programmes. Zee TV was ranked four in the Hindi GEC (Rural) genre. However, the two channels were ranked third (Zee TV) and ninth (Zee Anmol) in BARC’s list of top 10 channels in Hindi GEC (Urban) market. Zee TV’s reality show Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Little Champs topped the top five programmes in the Hindi GEC (Urban) market list.

  • Two Zeel channels top Hindi GECs in Across Genre list

    BENGALURU: Two Hindi GEC channels from the Zee Entertainment Enterprises Limited (Zeel) Network topped the ratings among the six Hindi GEC channels that were present in the latest Broadcast Audience Research Council of India (BARC) top 10 channels Across Genre list (All India (U+R) : 2+ Individuals). Zeel’s flagship Hindi GEC Zee TV (pay TV) and its free to air (FTA) channel Zee Anmol scored 704.522 million impressions and 693.027 million impressions respectively for week 30 of 2017 (Saturday, 22 July 2017 to Friday, 28 July 2017). The channels were ranked second and third, just after the Sun TV Network’s Tamil GEC flagship channel – Sun TV which scored 989.709 million impressions and retained its pole position.

    As mentioned above – one Tamil GEC, six Hindi GECs’, two Telugu GECs’ and one Hindi Movies channel made it to the top 10 channels across genre list in week 30. From the network’s perspective – two channels each from 5 networks – The Sun TV Network, Zeel, Star India, Network 18 (Viacom 18) and Sony Pictures Network India (SPN) made up the top 10 channels across genre list.

    Star India’s flagship Hindi GEC Star Plus was ranked fourth with 647.026 million impressions followed by Viacom 18’s flagship Hindi GEC Colors with 614.528 million impressions. Star India’s associate Telugu GEC channel Star Maa with 603.792 million impressions was sixth followed by Viacom 18’s FTA Hindi GEC Rishtey with 596.039 million impressions at seventh place.

    SPN’s women centric shows channel Sony Pal was eighth with 538.710 million impressions. Its network sister and Hindi Movies channel Sony Max was ninth in the list with 529.383 million impressions with the Sun Network’s flagship Telugu GEC Gemini TV at tenth place with 515.418 million impressions.

  • GEC: SET enters & Sab exits Top 10 as Star & Zee Anmol retain leadership

    MUMBAI: Sony Entertainment Television (SET) entered and Sony Sab dropped out of the Top 10 channels’ list in the Hindi general entertainment genre (rural) space, according to BARC India week 29’s all-India data. Star India retained its reign over Hindi GEC (Urban + Rural) as well as Urban segment whereas Zee Anmol retained its sway over the Hindi GEC (rural) segment.

    In the GEC (Urban) segment, Sony Sab jumped a slot this week from last week’s fourth position whereas Sony Entertainment slipped a slot to the fourth position. In the GEC (urban + rural), Rishtey slipped from last week’s third position to the fourth position this week whereas Zee Anmol climbed from the fourth level to the third position.

    Among the programmes in the Urban+Rural segment, Amul Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Little on Zee TV and Naagin 2 on Rishtey respectively emerged as the first and second top programmes with 11462 and 10508 Impressions sum.

    HINDI GEC

    Star Plus, with a hike in ratings, lead the Hindi GEC genre with 632153 Impressions (000s) sum as compared to 629109 Impressions (000s) sum followed by Zee TV on second spot and recorded 632048 Impressions (000s) sum against 623641 Impressions (000s) sum. Zee Anmol climbed a spot to the third place with a hike in ratings from 544669 Impressions (000s) sum to 612945 Impressions (000s) sum.

    Rishtey slipped a slot to the fourth position with 589493 Impressions (000s) sum and Sony Pal is on the fifth position with 573002 Impressions (000s) sum as compared to 528789 Impressions (000s) sum.

    Colors is on sixth position with 504216 Impressions (000s) sum followed by Sony Entertainment Television, Sony SAB, and Life Ok at seventh, eighth and ninth spots with 399377 Impressions (000s) sum, 389089 Impressions (000s) sum and 366170 Impressions (000s) sum respectively.
    Star Utsav sits on the tenth position with 281863 Impressions (000s) sum.

    Hindi GEC Rural

    Zee Anmol continued to remain at the top position with 480526 Impressions (000s) sum followed by Rishtey with 444059 Impressions (000s) sum at the second position. Sony Pal and Zee TV stood at the third and forth positions with 412847 Impressions (000s) sum and 251876 Impressions (000s) sum, respectively.

    Star Utsav is on the fifth position with 212020 Impressions (000s) sum. Star Plus, Big Magic and Colors grabbed the sixth, seventh and eighth spot with 197047 Impressions (000s) sum, 171172 Impressions (000s) sum and 158368 Impressions (000s) sum, respectively.

    Life OK and Sony Entertainment Television are at the ninth and tenth positions with 130848 Impressions (000s) sum and 110911 Impressions (000s) sum, respectively.

     

    Hindi GEC Urban

    Star Plus led the chart with 429222 Impressions (000s) sum followed by Zee TV with 369689 Impressions (000s) sum.

    Colors sits on the third slot with 345848 Impressions (000s) sum and Sony Entertainment Television bagged the fourth spot with 288465 Impressions (000s) sum. Sony Sab slipped a slot to the fifth position with 284646 Impressions (000s) sum.

    Life Ok and &TV stood on the sixth and the seventh spots with 235322 Impressions (000) sum and 161702 Impressions (000) sum, respectively.

    Sony Pal, Rishtey and Zee Anmol are on the eighth, ninth and tenth positions, respectively, with 160155 Impressions (000s) sum, 145434 Impressions (000s) sum and 132419 Impressions (000s) sum.

  • Life OK rebranded as Star Bharat may start from 15 Aug

    MUMBAI: Star India is planning to relaunch its existing general entertainment channel — Life OK, renamed as Star Bharat. The channel plans to have modern outlook but Indian feel.

    According to reports, it will be relaunched with the new look on 15 August.

    Since 2011, the channel will be branded for the second time. At the earlier launch, Star One was rebranded as Life OK. In 2016, the network changed the programming line-up of the channel. But, it seems the revamp of the programming strategy did not work.

    According to sources, shows such as “May I come in Madam,” “Sher-E-Punjab Ranjeet Singh” and “Chandrakanta” will go off air, and shows including Savdhaan India and Ghulam will continue. Shows like Kya Haal Paanchaal, Ayushamaan Bhava and Shatranj will be launched on Star Bharat shortly.

    ‘Shatranj’ is basically an Indian adaptation of the English show ‘House of Cards’ that features Sonal Vengurkar, Akshay Anand and Bhanu Uday. Another show called ‘Kya Haal Paanchal’, produced by Optimystic, is based on polygamy, starring Maninder Singh in the lead and five girls.

    At the time of filing this report, an official confirmation did not come through. It is hoped that the second rebranding works for Star.

  • Sumanto Chattopadhyay named chairman & CCO of Soho Square

    MUMBAI: Sumanto Chattopadhyay will take over as the chairman and CCO at Soho Square from 1 August 2017 with the goal of shaping its culture and reputation, and leading it through the next phase of growth in India.

    Part of Ogilvy since 1993, Chattopadhyay has helped build brands like Dove, Pond’s and Star Plus, successfully relaunched UTI Bank as Axis Bank and helped launch brands like Pro Kabaddi, Maharashtra Tourism and The Economist in India. He also contributed to the growth of the Mumbai, Kolkata and Colombo offices of Ogilvy.

    Chattopadhyay has won international and national advertising awards at Cannes, the Clios, the One Show, the London Festival, the Abbies and Kyoorius. Some of his awards include the 2017 campaign for Star Plus that swept the Kyoorius Awards, the 2016 AME award for Diu Tourism campaign and the 2015 Cannes Health Lion for the filaria eradication campaign he developed for the Government of India.

    Chattopadhyay has an MBA from McGill University, Canada, and an MS in Applied Mathematics from Clemson University, South Carolina, USA.

  • Saregama & Kumkum Bhagya prop Zee TV to third place across genres

    BENGALURU: Hindi GEC Urban audiences and Hindi GEC urban+rural audiences of Saregama Little Champs and the Balaji Telefilm’s family soap KumkumBhagya propped Zee TV to third place across genres with 593.708 million weekly impressions in week 26 of 2017 (Saturday, 24 June 2017 to Friday, 30 June 2017). This is the second best rank the channel has had across gneres in calendar year 2017 until week 26. In week 21, the channel held second rank with 735.093 million weekly impressions according to Broadcast Audience Research Council of India (BARC) weekly data on Top 10 Channels *Across Genre : All India (U+R) : 2+ Individuals.

    As BARC weekly data for top 5 Hindi GEC HSM (U+R) : NCCS All : Prime Time (1800 – 2330 hrs) : 2+ Individuals and top 5 Hindi GEC HSM (U) : NCCS All : Prime Time (1800 – 2330 hrs) : 2+ Individuals, both the Zee TV programmes stood at first and second place for week 26 of 2017.

    Sony Pictures Network (SPN) Hindi Movies channel Sony Max continued to remain in the across genres list in week 26 of 2017, but at sixth place with 550.026 million impressions as opposed to the sixth place it held in week 25 of 2017 with 543.438 million impressions.

    One each of Hindi Movies and Tamil GEC channels, two Telugu GEC channels and six Hindi GEC channels found a place in BARC’s weekly topn10 channels across genre list for week 26 of 2017. From another perspective, 3 Network 18 channels, two channels each from the Sun TV Network, SPN and Zee Entertainment Enterprises Limited Network (Zeel) and one channel from Star India were in the weekly top 10 channels across genre list for week 26 of 2017.

  • Bahubali & King Kong etc aid Sony Max continuance in Top 10

    BENGALURU: This is the second week in a row after the tenth season of the Indian Premier League (IPL 10) that good movies have found a place for Sony Pictures Network (SPN) Hindi Movies channel Sony Max in the weekly top 10 channels list across genre. The Broadcast Audience Research Council of India (BARC) list of top 10 channels for week 25 (Saturday, 17 June 2017 to Friday, 23 June 2017) has Sony Max at sixth rank with 543.438 million weekly impressions, far improved from the ninth rank with 460.016 million weekly impressions for week 24. The movies Bahubali – The Beginning, King Kong, Double Attack 2 and Sooryavansham, which were among the five most watched weekly programmes in the Hindi Movies and Hindi Movies Urban markets seemed to have helped in the presence and escalation of the movie channel in a list that is generally dominated by either GECs’ or channels that air sports events aka cricket.

    Three channels from the SPN stable, two channels each from the Sun TV Networks, Viacom 18 and Zee Entertainment Enterprises Limited (Zeel) stables and one from the Star India group made it to the BARC India weekly top 10 channels across genres list for week 25 of 2017. Putting it another way – One channel each from the Tamil GEC, Telugu GEC and Hindi Movies genres and seven channels from the Hindi GEC genre made up the BARC weekly top 10 channels list for week 25.

    With the end of the ICC Champions Trophy 2017 in the early part of week 24, Star India’s Star Sports 1 Hindi exited the weekly top ten channels across genres in week 25. Sun TV continued to lead the list at first place with 1017.773 million weekly impressions, followed by Star India’s flagship Hindi GEC channel Star Plus with 640.486 million impressions at second place. Zeel’s Hindi GEC Zee Anmol was at third place with 581.906 million weekly impressions followed by SPN’s Hindi GEC women centric channel Sony Pal with 563.41 million impressions at fourth rank – a rank that the channel has retained for the third week in a row.

    Network 18 (Viacom 18) channel Rishtey was at fifth place with 550.796 million weekly impressions – this was the fourth week in a row that Rishtey maintained the fifth place in BARC’s weekly top 10 channels across genre list. As mentioned above, Sony Max was at sixth place, followed by another Viacom 18 channel – its flagship Hindi GEC – Colors with 525.45 million weekly impressions at seventh place. Colors had been ranked tenth in the previous week.

    Zeel’s flagship Hindi GEC Zee TV with 516.04 million weekly impressions was at eighth place followed by the Sun Network’s Telugu flagship GEC Gemini TV with 493.489 million weekly impressions at ninth place. SPN’s Hindi channel specializing in comedy and lighthearted drama shows – Sony Sab completed the dectet with 454.614 million weekly impressions.

  • GEC: Star Plus regains lead, Sony Pal slips in two segments

    MUMBAI: Star Plus has regained its top position in Hindi GEC (U+R) this week. Last week’s leader Sony Pal fell to the third position in two segments (U+R and rural), according to BARC India week 25 ratings data. 

    Zee Anmol has remarkably jumped two slots each to the numero uno (rural) and second (U+R) positions respectively with approximately 10 per cent jump in ratings each whereas Star Plus has retained its top position in the GEC Urban. Colors too made a good leap from the seventh to the fifth position this week.

    Among the programmes on GEC channels, India-Pakistan ICC Champions trophy match on DD National    lead the list with 22525 Impressions (000s) Sum. Kumkum Bhagya and Amul Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Little Champs both on Zee TV pocketed the second and third positions, respectively, with 9764 and 9523 22525 Impressions (000s) Sum.

    Hindi GEC (U+R)

    Star Plus, Zee Anmol and Sony Pal have bagged the first, second and third positions, respectively, with 593712, 580287 and 560468 Impressions (000s) Sum.

    Rishtey, Colors and Zee TV pocketed the fourth, fifth and sixth position with 546014, 496646 and 479152 Impressions (000s) Sum.

    Sony Sab, albeit with a ratings jump of 6000 Impressions (000s) Sum, slipped a slot bagging the seventh position with total of 445866 Impressions (000s) Sum. DD National, Sony Entertainment and Life OK retained their last three slots in chronological order with 417285, 379146 and 346293 Impressions (000s) Sum, respectively.

    Hindi GEC – Rural

    Zee Anmol, Rishtey and Sony Pal came at the first, second and third positions respectively with 460492, 416163 and 405741 Impressions (000s) Sum, respectively.

    DD National, Star Utsav and Star Plus retained their last week’s respective positions with 243874, 222847 and 193456 Impressions (000s) Sum, respectively, with a minor fall in ratings as compared to BARC week 24.

    Zee TV, Big Magic, Colors and Sony Sab, respectively, bagged the seventh, eighth, ninth and tenth positions with 191432, 181942, 163880 and 136198 Impressions (000s) Sum.

    Hindi GEC – Urban

    Star Plus retained its first position with 400256 Impressions (000s) Sum followed by Colors with 332766 Impressions (000s) Sum at the second position which pushed Sony Sab with 309667 Impressions (000s) Sum to the third slot.

    Zee TV, Sony Entertainment and Life OK pocketed the fourth, fifth and sixth positions with 287719, 274566 and 221025 Impressions (000s) Sum, respectively.

    DD National, Sony Pal, Rishtey and &TV bagged the seventh, eighth, ninth and tenth positions with 173410, 154727, 129851, 128264 Impressions (000s) Sum, respectively.
