    MUMBAI: Star Movies and Star Movies Select HD will play host to the most awaited awards night of the year, The Oscars® which will air on 27 February live at 5:30 am with a repeat at 8:30 PM. In addition, the channels will be celebrating the month with film festivals that will showcase a marathon of Oscar® winning & Oscar® nominated movies as we anticipate the biggest night of Hollywood.

    As part of the festival Star Movies has a unique line up, with each week of the festival dedicated to a different category – Best Director, Best Actor/Actress, Best Animation and Best Picture. From Alejandro Iñárritu’s breath-taking direction of The Revenant to Meryl Streep’s outstanding performance in The Devil Wear Prada, Star Movies will highlight the movies that truly bring out the best of the categories presented at the Academy Awards.

    Star Movies Select HD will also feature a month long festival that will continue to stay true to its promise by bringing to consumers curated films that have received critical acclaim at the Academy Awards. Star Movies, Home of the Oscars® brings to you three such enthralling Oscar® premieres; giving you a glimpse of the phenomenal performances and heartwarming endeavors by the visionaries of cinema. With performances by three leading ladies- Jennifer Lawrence in ‘Joy’, Brie Larson in ‘Room’ and Saoirse Ronan in ‘Brooklyn’, Star Movies premieres these films this February through a simulcast on Star Movies and Star Movies Select HD.

    Each of the three films is a celebration of the human spirit as each one showcases a woman’s victory against overwhelming odds. The first is the heartwarming film Room, based on the book by Emma Donoghue, which tells the story of a mother and son and a room within which they create their world for 5 years. Brie Larson who won an Oscar® for her performance in this film plays the mother. She endeavors to provide her son a routine within the room but yearns for him to lead a normal life in the world outside and attempts to help him escape. The Oscar® nominated film ‘Room’ premieres for the first time on Star Movies and Star Movies Select HD on Saturday, 11th February at 6:30 PM.

    Ferocity, determination, confidence and courage are a few words that can be used to describe the tale of the entrepreneur and inventor Joy. A true story spanning across the life and times of Joy Mangano, Star Movies and Star Movies Select HD are all set to simulcast the Oscar® nominated Jennifer Lawrence-starring ‘Joy’ on Saturday, 18th February at 6:30 PM.

    Finally Star Movies shall bring to you Saoirse Ronan’s breath-taking performance in ‘Brooklyn’. A moving adaptation of Colm Tóibín’s novel, Brooklyn showcases the life of an Irish immigrant who has moved out of her house and her comfort zone as she struggles to create a home in a foreign land. In this journey, she falls in love with a local and reaches a point in her life where she has to decide between her true love and her roots. The Oscar® nominated movie “Brooklyn” premieres on Star Movies and Star Movies Select HD on 25th February at 6:30 PM.

    Discovery appoints Tanna as VP – S Asia; Dua to head M&A

    MUMBAI: In line with its ambition to expand and accelerate growth in India through new investment and leadership, Discovery Networks has appointed Vikram Tanna as Vice President, Head of Advertising Sales and Business Head of Regional Clusters, South Asia. The current product suite has 11 unique content channels in the factual and lifestyle genres. Tanna takes over from Karamjit Dua who moves into a new role as head of new business and mergers and acquisitions in line with Discovery’s focus on inorganic growth opportunities in both linear and channel business with immediate effect.

    Tanna will be based out of Mumbai and will report to Karan Bajaj, SVP and GM-South Asia, Discovery Networks Asia Pacific. Tanna will further strengthen the company’s efforts towards building engaged local audience franchises and re-instate its omni-channel platform play.

    Discovery Networks Asia-Pacific SVP & GM-South Asia Karan Bajaj said, “India is a high-priority market for us and we have very aggressive growth ambitions here as we look to future-proof our business and build a broader product eco-system. I am thrilled to have someone of the calibre of Vikram Tanna joining our team. He brings the relevant product and revenue experience and strategic planning ability that will be integral to our efforts in re-defining our ad sales, improving workflow and growing our business nationally and across regional clusters.”

    An industry veteran, Tanna brings with him over two decades of experience spanning the broadcast, gaming and online industries. Tanna joins from Star India where was the Senior Vice President leading Product & Revenue strategy for three of the major channel clusters- Hindi Movies & Music and HSM Regional Channels (West Bengal & Maharashtra). He has grown in various roles at Star from heading revenue for Channel V, Star Digital & V Events. Prior to which, Tanna was the revenue lead for Zapak Digital Entertainment that operated the online gaming portal. Earlier in his career, he worked with MTV for two years and with Star Movies and Star World.

    Tanna has done MBA in marketing from Mumbai University and is a visiting faculty at management institutes in Mumbai.

    The Star Wars Saga along with its characters are one of the most iconic names in the world. For nearly four decades, the Star Wars saga has captivated audiences, broken box office records and earned countless accolades. When George Lucas made the Star Wars film he didn’t just make a cult film series he created an industry one that made fans go “This will be a day long remembered”

    MUMBAI: Movies Now 2 made a comeback this week with the exit of Zee Studio. The players in the English Movies genre witnessed mixed ratings in this week’s data.

    Star World continued to dominate the English Entertainment space with a hike in its ratings. Though, the rest of the channels in the genre observed mixed ratings.

    In the Infotainment space, History TV18 sustained its number one position whereas the players in the factual entertainment genre observed a substantial decline in its viewership.

    According to the week 53 ratings data of Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC) India, channels in the Lifestyle space saw mixed ratings. Living Foodz dominated the genre with a decrease in its ratings.

    English Entertainment

    Star World with an increase in its ratings sustained at the number one position with 329 Impressions (‘000s) as compared to 238 Impressions (‘000s) in week 52. Zee Cafe was at the second place with 164 Impressions (‘000s) followed by Comedy Central at the third spot with 130 Impressions (‘000s). AXN stood at the fourth position with 111 Impressions (‘000s) whereas Colors Infinity SD maintained itself on the fifth rank with 106 Impressions (‘000s).

    Sony Pix with a decrease in the ratings continued to dominate the genre with 2770 Impressions (‘000s) as to 2736 Impressions (‘000s) last week. Star Movies with 2671 Impressions (‘000s) stood at the number two position. Movies Now with 2452 Impressions (‘000s) grabbed the third position followed by HBO at the fourth position with 1591 Impressions (‘000s). HBO took the fifth place with 1605 Impressions (‘000s).
