    MUMBAI: In the first of its category, Star Movies to start a campaign called #StarMoviesplay@7 where the channel aims to bring TV and Twitter together through a unique consumer engagement model.

    India's leading English movie channel has introduced many pioneering initiatives including the launch of Star Movies Select HD, monthly premieres of Hollywood blockbusters, Star Movies Secret Screening and various other campaigns to give viewers the best of English entertainment.

    Being known for setting new benchmarks, the English movie channel celebrates ten years of unparalleled entertainment and path-breaking cinema in the last decade.

    The channel has been Home to the Oscars since 1998 and brought some of the biggest Oscar Premieres to the Indian audiences. It is invariably also known as Home of Marvel cinematic universe as the channel has the monopoly of broadcasting all the latest Avengers action on it.

Two of the mightiest Marvel Super Heroes will grace the Indian television screens for the very first time with the premiere of Marvel Studios Thor: Ragnarok. What better stage than Star Movies and Star Movies Select HD to showcase this epic blockbuster this Sunday at 1PM and 9PM.

    The 17th film in the most celebrated fan favourite Marvel Cinematic Universe brings together a stellar star cast of Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Cate Blanchett, Mark Ruffalo, Tessa Thompson, Jeff Goldblum and Idris Elba. The quirky tone along with the humorous take on a Super Hero movie was all thanks to the brilliant director Taika Waititi. A dark-comedy film starring Anne Hathaway, Jason Sudeikis and Dan Stevens, ‘Colossal’ will air for the first time on Indian television, on Saturday, 25th August at 1PM and 9PM only on Star Movies Select HD. The film strengthens Star Movies Select HD’s premium movie proposition of ‘365 days. 365 stories.’.

    Colossal revolves around the life of Gloria (Anne Hathaway), and a mysterious monster that creates havoc in a seemingly quiet city. Eventually, Gloria comes to realize that she may have a connection to the monster’s actions. Colossal delves into human behaviour and tries to address the chaos that stirs up when one’s inner demons unleash themselves upon unsuspecting individuals. The film tries to explain how the monsters within us may cause harm to not just our loved ones, but also the ones who we may not even know. 

    Written and directed by Nacho Vigalondo, Colossal uses Kaiju – a Japanese film genre, and blends it beautifully with dark humour. The combination impeccably portrays a facet of human nature that is not often spoken about.  The result is an entertaining film, one that the Washington Post can’t stop raving about when they say “In this observant, entertaining, wildly imaginative movie, just about everything has more than one meaning.”

    Star Movies Select HD to premier Queen of Katwe

    MUMBAI: Keeping their promise to showcase stellar performances and never-seen-before stories, Star Movies Select HD will air the inspirational true story – Queen of Katwe for the first time on Indian Television.

    Directed by Mira Nair, the film features Lupita Nyong’o and is based on the inspiring story of one of Uganda’s highest rated chess players, Phiona Mutesi. The movie will be showcased on Star Movies Select HD on November 11 at 9 PM.

    One of the most celebrated directors in India and abroad, Padma Bhushan awardee Mira Nair has made a name for herself with her gritty and powerful films and Queen of Katwe is no different. Nair, who made her mark with the National Award winning film ‘Salaam Bombay,’ has raised the bar even higher with this true-life story.

    The film is the story of Ugandan Chess Champion Phiona Mutesi; a grounded individual who comes from a rough, poverty-stricken childhood and yet teaches us that anything is possible if one is willing to learn. Based on a true story, the film is a depiction of Mutesi’s constant battles against the odds and her eventual triumph that puts her at the forefront of her nation.
