    Star India to launch new movie channel ‘Star Gold 2’ on 01 Feb

    MUMBAI: Star India has announced the launch of Star Gold 2, its latest offering in the Hindi movie channel category. In an industry-first move, the network is introducing movie theatre’s “multiplex strategy” to the small screen, enabling it to showcase the myriad premieres of the newly acquired Bollywood movies on both Star Gold and Star Gold 2.

    Star Gold has acquired 25 recently released blockbusters and upcoming Bollywood movies of 2020, further strengthening its library of over 1500 titles including Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior, Baaghi 3, ’83, Angrezi Medium, Panga, War, Chhapaak, Bala, Housefull 4, Mardaani 2, among others. Starting 1 February , viewers will be able to enjoy hits starring leading Bollywood talent – Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone, Akshay Kumar, Alia Bhatt, Hrithik Roshan, Sara Ali Khan, Kartik Aaryan and more on both channels.

    “Consumers are at the front and center of everything we do. Having acquired the latest top quality Bollywood content of 2020, it made perfect business sense to launch a second screen to be able to showcase the best of Hindi cinema to our viewers,” said Star India Hindi Movies Business executive vice president and GM  Hemal Jhaveri.

    Over the years, Star Gold has been amongst the leading destinations for the latest Bollywood Blockbusters, consistently delivering the biggest movie line-up on Indian television. With the launch of the new channel, the brand will continue to showcase the latest hits now across two screens — Star Gold and Star Gold 2.

    Star Gold 2 will be available for viewers from 1 February, 2020, across leading DTH and cable platforms. A multi-touchpoint marketing campaign will go live to support the launch of the channel.

    MUMBAI: Star India will launch four new channels Vijay Music, Star Movies Select, Star Sports 3 HD, and Disney Channel HD. It is also rebranding Movies OK as Star Gold 2.

    Except for Disney Channel HD, all the other four channels will launch/rebrand on 1 February 2020. Meanwhile, the Disney Channel HD to be rolled-out from 1 March 2020.

    A new entrant in Tamil music section, Vijay Music is priced at Re 1 per month and to compete with other channels the same segment such as Raj Television Network’s Raj Musix, Sun Network’s Sun Music, Jaya TV Network’s Jaya MAX.

    The broadcaster has decided to add Star Movies Select to cater the audiences in standard definition (SD) category as premiere movies channel, in addition to Star Movies Select HD (high definition).

    To give larger-than-life experience to customers, the broadcaster to start Star Sports 3 HD at a price of Rs 5 per month, in addition to existing Star Sports 3 in the SD category. Meanwhile, it is also to come up with second HD kids’ channel, Disney Channel HD that will cost around Rs 10 per month.

    With the rebranding on Movies OK to Star Gold 2, the broadcaster will end the ‘OK’ branding as earlier it had also renamed the Life OK channel to Star Bharat. Star Gold 2’s SD version will cost Rs 2 per month, while for its HD variant customer to spend Rs 5 per month.

    MIB permits Star India to rename Movies OK as Star Gold 2

    MUMBAI: The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) has granted Star India permission to rename Movies OK as Star Gold 2.

    In March, Star India bagged the licence for its Star Gold 2 HD channel. Earlier, it had also got the approval to rename Star Movies Kids and Star Movies Kids HD to Star Sports 1 Bangla and Star Sports 1 Marathi.

    Also, in the month of May, MIB approved two applications from NGC Network India. NGC Network got the MIB nod to rename its licences NAT GEO MUSIC HD and NAT GEO PEOPLE HD to National Geographic Tamil and National Geographic Telugu.
