‘The Jungle Book’ to premiere on three Star channels on 27 November

MUMBAI: Star Movies has been home to the biggest blockbusters that have enthralled audiences over the years. Star Movies and Star Movies Select HD are all set to bring the beloved childhood classic – Disney’s The Jungle Book to audiences in India.

Some stories leave a lasting impression on our minds while some fade away. Jungle Book is the former; a story that has kept us spellbound with every adaptation, be it TV or film. Academy Award winning director Jon Favreau brings to life Disney’s The Jungle Book as a benchmark of how CGI films have developed over the years. Disney’s The Jungle Book will premiere on Star Movies, Star Movies HD and Star Movies Select HD on 27 November (Sunday,) at 1pm and 9pm.

The film’s cast includes three Oscar winners: Ben Kingsley, Lupita Nyong’o and Christopher Walken; and an Oscar nominee: Bill Murray. Featuring Neel Sethi as Mowgli with voices from Ben Kingsley, Bill Murray, Scarlet Johansson, Idris Elba, Lupita Nyong’o and many more, the film rings true to Rudyard Kipling’s timeless tale. All the characters in the movie played an instrumental role in helping Mowgli make the jungle his home. Whether it was Raksha who took care of him as her own; Bagheera who protected him from the sinister Shere Khan or the free spirited Baloo- they formed a family like no other. Disney’s The Jungle Book is about values as much as it is about the grandeur of film-making.

With a worldwide gross of over US$ 963.7 million, the film is the year’s highest grossing Hollywood film in India and second biggest grossing film of 2016 (Hindi and English including).

Visually stunning, Jon Favreau’s re-telling of a classic pays tribute to the original adventure of one of your most beloved childhood stories.

TDSAT asks UCN to restore Star channels to Raj Cable

NEW DELHI: Nagpur multi-system operator (MSO) UCN Cable Network has been directed to restore the supply of Star channels to Raj Cable Network, Maharashtra, with immediate effect as an interim measure.

Giving this directive, the Telecom Disputes Settlement and Appellate Tribunal (TDSAT) also asked the MSO to ensure that the local cable operators’ (LCOs) network receives the Indiacast and Taj Television channels.

If the channels of the two broadcasters have been discontinued at the instance of the MSO, TDSAT chairman Justice Aftab Alam and members Kuldip Singh and B B Srivastava said, “It will be viewed as a case of deliberate contempt and the respondent (UCN Network) will be liable for the consequences.”

The Tribunal also said until further orders, Raj Cable will not transmit through its network the signals received from any MSO other than UCN Network.

Raj Cable had stated that not knowing the proper forum for redressal of its grievances, the petitioner earlier filed a suit in the court of Civil Judge, Yavatmal. The suit was called out before the court of Civil Judge yesterday and the next date fixed in it is 27 October.

In the petition before the Tribunal, however, it is undertaken that the suit will be withdrawn.

Counsel Vikram Singh accepted notice on behalf of the MSO and was asked to file reply within two weeks with rejoinder, if any, within one week from the date of receipt of a copy of the reply. The matter was listed for 19 November.

Raj Cable alleged that the MSO unauthorisedly disconnected the supply of Star, Indiacast and Taj Television to its network. MSO counsel Vikram Singh admitted the disconnection of Star channels to Raj Cable, which took effect on 8 October but denied discontinuation of the supply of Taj Television and Indiacast channels.

TDSAT warns Den Network against piracy of Star channels

NEW DELHI: The Telecom Disputes Settlement and Appellate Tribunal (TDSAT) has cautioned and warned Den Network to desist from activities like piracy and transmitting any channels of Star available to it on a la carte basis on any of its channels available in any bouquets.

As per Star, it telecast the Salman Khan starrer film Bajrangi Bhaijaan on one of its channels, Star Gold which is available to Den’s network only on a la carte basis. In order to circumvent the a la carte restriction, Den unauthorisedly transmitted the movie on one of its local channels called Den Cinema, which was available to its entire subscriber base.

TDSAT chairman Justice Aftab Alam and members Kuldip Singh and B B Srivastava said, “Prima facie it appears to us that Den is indulging in practices that are not only not sanctioned by law but which in fact may constitute criminal offence.”

It further clarified that in case Den is “violated the warning it would do so at its risk as to costs and consequences. It is further made clear that Star, if so advised, may file claim for damages against Den for allegedly having indulged in piracy of its signals.”

The Tribunal noted that in the petition filed by Den, Star had even earlier alleged similar piracy and that matter had been posted for 3 November as Den counsel Abhay Chattopadhyay sought time to get instructions.

The Tribunal hoped that by the next date, Chattopadhyay may file Den’s reply to the two applications.

In the present application, Star counsel Kunal Tandon alleged that Den was “indulging in rampant piracy of some of the Star channels.” Both the earlier application and the present application are supported by screen shots and CDs.

  • TDSAT puts a lock on any DTH operator carrying Star channels

TDSAT puts a lock on any DTH operator carrying Star channels

MUMBAI: As the second direct-to-home player Tata Sky gears for launch, the Telecom Disputes Redressal and Settlement Tribunal (TDSAT), in an interim order passed today, has ruled that Star channels will not be made available to any other DTH platform.

The development took place as Star India gave an undertaking in this regard to the disputes tribunal, which posted the case for hearing on 3 July on a petition filed by the Subhash Chandra-owned Dish TV.

If this order is interpreted in another way, it could also mean that Tata Sky would not be able to launch before 3 July and if it does so, it would have to do without the Star channels. Its test signals for the service also would not carry any Star channels till 3 July.

Contacted by Indiantelevision.com, a Tata Sky spokesperson refused comment saying they had not received any notification from the tribunal on the matter. Star officials also declined to comment.

The Chandra-promoted ASC Enterprises, which owns a DTH licence to operate a service under Dish TV brand, had moved TDSAT on 25 April alleging that Star was flouting the sector regulator’s (Telecom Regulatory Authority of India – Trai) diktat on making available all content to all platforms on flimsy grounds.

The ASC petition states, “The unreasonableness on the part of the respondent is evident from the fact that the respondent has laid down impracticable and unreasonable terms and conditions for supply of its bouquet of channels.”

The petition also mentions that discussions with Star were initiated by Dish TV in December 2004. Star is 20 per cent shareholder in Tata Sky, while the remaining stake is held by the Tatas.

Meanwhile, Dish TV’s negotiations with Discovery-Sony joint venture One Alliance, which distributes signals of channels such as Sony, MTV, Nick, SET Max, Discovery to name a few, too, has not been concluded despite industry sources indicating that a formal announcement was due any time.

Dish TV has also won a favourable judgement from TDSAT that has directed MTV Networks to make available MTV and Nick to Dish TV on a commercial basis. MTV has appealed against this order in the Supreme Court.

  • Star channels back on cable networks in Kolkata

Star channels back on cable networks in Kolkata

MUMBAI: The Star group of channels are back on the cable networks in Kolkata. After Manthan Cable Network, it was the turn of Indian Cable Net (which was bought out by Siticable) to reach an agreement today with Star.

“Our channels are being carried by Indian Cable Net from today. They have agreed to carry our second bouquet which includes Star One. We have also resolved issues with Mathan and they have cleared our outstandings,” says a Star spokesperson.

The Star channels were blacked out last month by several cable networks in Kolkata who were protesting against a seven per cent rate hike. Another issue in contention was the imposition of Star’s second bouquet. Cablecom and Purvalaya Communications, however, were carrying the Star channels.

Star had switched off signals on 15 March to Manthan after claiming outstandings of over Rs 20 million. Following this the last mile operators blacked out carriage of the Star channels, led by the Forum of Cable Operators and Cable Operators Sanjukta, two association bodies of the last mile operators in the city.
