    New Delhi: Brand ambassadors – they are the icons, the celebrities which consumers associate with a brand because they extoll its virtues on television, print, and digital adverts. The role of any and every brand ambassadorin 2020 came with added responsibilities than ever before. They were not just selling products or services but trust and assurance to the potential customer that whatever they are promoting  is safe to use in the times of coronavirus.

    It is to their credit that  many of them stepped forward on the government’s call for social messaging, telling the homebound to stay that way and resort to social distancing,  masks and extreme sanitisation  measures every time they stepped out.

Several brands roped in new ambassadors this year and several new ambassadors started shining on air.

    Akshay Kumar

    The 50 plus year old actor has emerged as the king of endorsements in the Bollywood fraternity. He is associated with brands across different categories such as Protein Plus, Dollar Industries, RB, CarDekho, Honda, Nirma, Pagarbook and several others. Kumar has a kitty of over 20 brands including traditional and new-age brands.

    Known for his discipline, fitness, and integrity the actor’s credibility reached its peak when he interviewed prime minister Narendra Modi at his residence just before the 2019 general elections. Over the years his fan base has increased and brands have found him to be a credible face when it comes to creating a strong recall.

    Virat Kohli

    The current Indian cricket team captain is one of the most successful brand ambassadors from the world of cricket. He represents a variety of virtues such as discipline, aggression, commitment, team-player, and most recently soon-to-be-father. Kohli has been breaking multiple records and cricket experts across the world have been lauding his success.

    Going by the latest reports, his brand value is above Rs 320 crore and is slated to grow as he has a good number of years left in his career before his retirement. A brand report in August clearly stated that Kapoor leads the brand endorsement chart among the women in Bollywood.     Amitabh Bachchan

    He is known as the evergreen brand ambassador of the industry. Bachchan is the easiest choice for any brand manager to make since he cuts across multiple age-groups, communities and commands an unwavering love and respect from the audiences. He represents virtues such as patience, calmness, commitment, etiquettes, politeness, friendly, family man, elderly and many other things. He is among the veterans in the industry and commands an ability to shift the needle of sales on any product.     IMG Reliance to be rebranded following RIL acquisition

    MUMBAI: The sports ambitions at the Mukesh Ambani-headed  Reliance Industries continue to grow. In the latest announcement, it is set to change the name of its Indian joint venture with the Mark McCormack founded firm International Management group (IMG), IMG Reliance. This will happen post its acquisition of the 50 per cent shares held by IMG Singapore in the Indian operation.

    Reliance informed regulators  that it will be paying out not more than Rs 52.08 crore for the acquisition.

    The duo had set up IMG Reliance to build a platform to help   market sports, fashion and media and entertainment in India.

    IMG-Reliance  had a turnover of Rs 181.70 crore  with net profit at Rs 16.35 crore in FY 2020, Rs 195.55 Crore with net profit at Rs 19.25 crore in FY 2019, and Rs 158.26 crore  with net  profit at Rs 15.82 crore respectively.

    MUMBAI: IPL 13 was the much-needed break that enlivened Indian audiences from the Covid2019 pandemic-induced gloom. While the tournament was played in the UAE, it saw scores of brands advertising during the game to reach out to their audiences. This year, the league clocked over 400 billion viewing minutes and had an extremely high viewership. For the record, the IPL 13 opener saw a viewership of over 200 million-plus. Multiple brands roped in endorsers from films, sports and other categories in a bid to stand out from the clutter.   

    As per Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC) data, the share of ads featuring a sports celebrity went up from 14 per cent during IPL 2019 to 17 per cent during IPL 2020. The data also revealed that the IPL 13 witnessed a 3 per cent growth in the ads featuring sports stars versus Bollywood celebrities.

    Aamir Khan topped the list of top ten celebrities who were featured in ads during IPL 2020. Khan registered 89,000 ad seconds, followed by MS Dhoni with 73,000 seconds and Shah Rukh Khan with 59,000 seconds.

    Other celebrities who made the top ten list were Virat Kohli on the fourth spot with 45,000 seconds, trailed by Akshay Kumar with 34000 seconds. BCCI head honcho Sourav Ganguly came in sixth with 33,000 seconds, while Ranveer-Deepika ranked seventh with 27,000 seconds. Aayushmann Khurrana bagged the eighth spot with 26,000 seconds. Rishabh Pant and the Aamir Khan-Alia Bhatt pairing rounded out the top 10 with 26,000 and 25,000 seconds of ad volumes respectively.

    NEW DELHI: IPL 13 was the most awaited live property of the year, especially after Covid2019 turned us all into house-bound hermits. It provided people with a much needed break from the pandemic-induced stress and negativity. Starting from day one, audiences have been glued to their screens (TV & mobile) to watch their favourite team progressing up the IPL scoreboard. It was widely reported that the opening match of IPL scored over 269 million views, making it one of the biggest opening day numbers for any live event in history. In the most recent update, BARC India has shared that IPL 13 has clocked over 108 million cumulative reach which is 11 per cent higher than IPL 12, which clocked 98 million cumulative reach.

    On the other hand, the tournament has already clocked 7 billion viewing minutes while the previous instalment clocked just 5.5 billion minutes. For IPL 12, the data analysed includes Week 13, 14, 15, 16 and 17, which covers 44 matches aired across 24 channels. For IPL 13, the data analysed includes week 38, 39, 40, 41, 42, which covers 41 matches aired across 21 channels. This season of IPL began on 19 September and will culminate on 10 November. The matches are aired on Star Sports and streamed on Disney+ Hotstar.

    MUMBAI: After seeing a noticeable spike in week 37, the television genres have witnessed slight growth in week 38. English GEC genre has become the top gainer in week 38, 2020 of Chrome Data Analytics and Media data. The genre has grown by 0.71 per cent.

    Among English GEC channels, Comedy Central has gained the highest OTS with 43.7 in the six metros. OTS is the actual census-based percentage connectivity of a channel spread across 81 million homes, as reported by Chrome DM, across analogue cable, digital cable, and DTH.

    This week, Sports has acquired the second position on top gainers list with a growth of 0.21 per cent in the all India 1 lakh+ market. In this genre, DD Sports has gained the highest OTS with 97.0 per cent.

    Among other genres, English Movies, infotainment, Hindi GECs have seen growths of 0.10 per cent, 0.08 per cent, 0.06 per cent respectively.
